2:50 fun fact about the original legend of Zelda. The reason all the dungeons fit together is because when you do that they take up the same amount of space as your overworld map that normally occupies the top left-hand corner of your screen, when you enter a dungeon, you’re not actually leaving the overworld the game merely in prints from that overworld map to your screen you were in the exact same spot in the game. It just adds new skins to everything.
it might sound weird but its actually easier to understand and make most of the game mechanics in Legend of Zelda than the grid based Snake movement lol
@@magma5267 I would say it's not that hard. Snake is essentially a linked list where each node passes location info one way (to the back.) Sometimes the head also passes an instruction to add a segment; the node that has no segment to pass to creates one and just passes the location instruction back to it same as always. For a more complex snakelike game such as Serpentine (Bröderbund, 1982) where segments can be added or removed, instead of sending on its own location it sends on the previous segment's location unchanged.
@@hyperbaroque Way I did it is weird. I made a 2D array of ints, and the snake is drawn at positions where the value is > 0 in this array. Every number in the array is counted down by 1 every move. The initial value of the "head" of the snake is incremented when eating an apple. The snake also has to move every turn, so the leftover values in the array are the tail of the snake. If the snake's head is going to go into a position where the existing value is > 0 then the game is lost.

I know this video's a bit old, but here's a tip to save time making textures! If you make your textures greyscale using four distinct levels of brighness as your colors for the pixels, you can write a shader that uses the value of the pixel as a coordinate for a lookup texture, array of colors, or gradient! That way you only have one texture for each unique "surface", and you can vary the color of it using different materials! It's a similar technique as how the NES did its sprite work back in the day, that's why old games have so many duplicate or shared sprites that vary only in color, the palette that the game was using to render was literally swapped! :)

This is so awesome! You are an artist. I would love to see your interpretation of “Zelda 2, the adventure of link”
Can we just appreciate how he takes 1-2 months of hard work just to make a video for us. 🙏
Can we just appreciate how unoriginal your opening statement is.
Dude the game grumps would love this XD Danny specifically
Link dancing to the beat at the end was amazing
Nintendo should hire cody, just like how Sega did with the ROM-Hacks guy that ended up making Sonic Mania.
Sega does what Nintendon't
Taxman is truly a good guy.
@@karamelflan sega needs what nintendon't
That wouldn’t be possible. Cody uses C#, and Unity, while Nintendo uses C++, and proprietary engines, or Unreal (not sure how often they use Unreal though). Also Nintendo of Japan makes the games, so Cody would have to know Japanese. I understand what you’re saying though.
Nintendo wouldn't bother making or buying this regardless.
Show us the gameplay, don't just 'see ya' us
Keese: Occasionally if you kill one, all the rest in the room die
Dodongo: I think you can actually slash the tail in case you run out of bombs
Digdogger: Blowing the recorder not only shrinks Digdogger, but turns it into 3 smaller versions that move faster
Gleock: When a head is floating around, you can actually attack it, I think this is because it'll settle back onto the body if you take too long defeating the boss
You've done a great job with recreating the game, I really hope I get to play your version some time.
I think that was called the ringleader in the Zelda manual, although I lost mine decades ago.
2:16 That structure tho 😂
Level 10 the pp
Man, I LOVE that structure, it's my fav in the game!
Yooo this guy deserves way more recognition. He is a bonified genius! Much respect!
that moment when someone thinks this is an actual nintendo game
Then that misjudment is understandable, thos looks amazing
I wish
I would buy it for 20 bucks and play it... from Nintendo
@AndrewWithEase11 11 but most people wish it
Man seriously made the whole game in 3D. Absolutely stellar.
These 3D remake videos are so good and entertaining
damn watching this really makes me realize how much binding of issac took from zelda
Same here but for Gungeon
Chub dislikes smoke
i always thought games like isaac and dungeon were inspired by zelda 1
Please do metroid next that would be amazing!
Yeah especially because its a more exploratory game like zelda. A linear game like Castlevania or Kid Icarus (and other linear games) just wouldn't work. He did it for mario but I feel like Metroid style games like that are great picks. I bet it would be a pain to make cuz how long it is and does not have a birds eye view like zelda. But seriously that would be cool even if it took a while.
wow thx ive never gotten a reply before! btw, i subbed 2 u
@@gonkdroidincarnate4237 Actually kid icarus should be after metroid, it sounds interesting to be in a 3d space.
you could totally make a roguelike with this!
Damn he recreated the entirety of the game only to not be able to share it cuz nintendo
why is it that almost everything Cody makes is not available to download?
because fan games nowadays are basically illegal
@@baconhair1565 Unless its sonic, then fan games are opportunities to get hired
Cause Nintendo
He won't even put up his sonic game for download even though SEGA encourages fangames.
I was hoping that this game (a 3D version of the original Zelda) would eventually be made when the N64 came out. Nice!
CodyCantEatThis: Does a game with all the love and dedication he can to honor The Legend Of Zelda
Nintendo: Cool, let me take it down and demand you then.
Cody: But i didn't shared it
Nintendo: So what's this github page
Cody: Damn, they found it!
This is so amazing. If only it could actually be playable on a Nintendo console.
This was the coolest series. I hope you do another like this! Might I suggest Metroid? :D
I HAVE BEEN WAITING SO LONG FOR THIS YEEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2:31 So thats why that one dungeon is that specific shape.
nice
10:30 using bomb on walls doesn't make new doorways. It cracks the wall and makes a hole through it...
“The next enemy is the rope”
Moe Szyslak: hello old friend
LMFAO!!
@@wizzyoflegend2947 idk
The resident evil 4 flash backs though
@@wizzyoflegend2947 you can't,he said that in another video I think
Can Cody eat a Legend of Zelda cartridge for the NES?
Nintendo: You can't share this.
People: Why?
Nintendo: .....
1. It steal assets 2. It literally legend of Zelda but 3d 3. It copyright infringement. Nintendo not going to allow game that copyrighted just because it fun to play
@@spoon8994 finally someone understands
@@spoon8994 What stolen assets? Everything is made from scratch, textures, code, models, the only thing that's taken from the original game is the premise and style, everything is re-built from the ground up.
You explain it really good for people without programming knowlegde. It is still fun to watch because i don't really get what all the programming stuff means but you explain with graphics etc nice
i just realized there are two nintendo games where you can scream "BE GONE THOT!" to get rid of enemies
Pol's Voice in Zelda and Minigoombas in Mario 3D World
Wow
wOw
Man, this is a lot of intelligence and work.
C O D Y CAN'T M A K E B A D V I D E O
I never knew how much I wanted a full 3D remake of the original LoZ until now. Well done!
Fun fact:the binding of isaac video game is just randomized zelda dungeons with a lot more modifiers on the items
You know the sad thing about it is we will never get a chance trying this out even when there alot of fan remakes of LEGEND OF ZELDA but this one i really really want to try it out
He could release a download link somewhere obscure, claim someone hacked him and plead ignorance lol
@@John-Doe-Yo 😂😂 that might work or why can't he just ask NINTENDO
This all looks amazing! Did you get both of the orbiting paths for the Patras? The orange ones do that ring you showed, but will also do one that looks similar to a diagonal ring around a planet.
Wow, so much work. Great content. Did you know... You can also use the flute in the over world to summon a whirlwind that teleports you to completed dungeons.
5:44 I think this was an inspiration for the Ratchet and Clank series
Me: uhhhhh Minecraft?
Kid
@@TheWorldsLargestOven says the Google image
Ratchet and clank was released in 2002, minecraft in 2011.
fun fact: dani is probably watching. he is here, he is there, he is everywhere.
He is waiting to spill his milk
I wouldn’t be surprised
13:10 this is the same animation that he use to get mario in a pipe
Why does this guy gotta make the funnest most interesting looking games that nobody can get their hands on.
13:08 I love how Link bounces with the music
50 years later this guy: Meking breath of the wild in 2d
Someone actually made that a few years back, but it was taken down by Nintendo
i just realized the binding of isaac is just the legend of zelda
..no...
Tip:
The Zol will spawn 2 gels if it was killed by the wooden sword, but if killed by a white sword or master sword they'll be killed immediately with no gels spawning(also same for that guy who spawns 2 keese if killed)
Also in the graveyard, if you touched the other gravestones a genie(or those ghost like dudes) will spawn which can be used for grinding:)
(Just saying it here)
Huge dedication remaking an entire game thats amazing
