I thought the Watchman intro fight scene entirely set up the ending, so when the "twist" comes, it isn't out of left field etc. Also it's the single event that drives the entire movie.
I think it also does a pretty good job of illustrating to the viewers the gravity of The Comedian being murdered. No normal individual could do that. We see how strong and experienced he is, and yet hes still totally overmatched in that fight and it makes us wonder who that assassin could possibly be and why from the first moment.
yes but that's not what he is saying. he's saying because it is right off the rip, we know nothing. of course after you've seen the movie you know why it is there, but when that fight occurs, we don't even know his name is The Comedian.
It's also good at setting up the delusional notion that Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons were imagining these guys doing Matrix moves when they made the comic. Comedian punching through concrete? Dude, he's human. His main "power" was shooting a flamethrower at bystanders. Also, the comic makes it pretty clear Comedian was just sitting there drunk and got his ass handed to him.
Completely and utterly agree with you. Season 2, to me, was really good, but you can see how much less the producers and writers cared compared to Cavill. Yeah, that's a good one. Especially as most stuntmen would not put spears on the top of their list for chosen weapons. It was also nice in that film, they took into account that bronze swards cannot be sharpened like steel and cannot slash or slice. So they developed a fighting choreography that suited bronze swords.

I felt a lot of the action in Gladiator was not precisely-enough cut, or maybe not precisely-enough shot. But it likely wasn't a super-choreographed movie. I would say that for Watchmen, the first fight (Comedian's death) served as very blunt foreshadowing. When I watched it for the first time and Adrian kills the assassin with the pole, he ends up in a similar "superhero pose" as one of the moves vs Comedian, which raised an eyebrow for me. And then of course, for the final battle, it's like you have a complete picture of what Adrian is capable of, physically, mentally, and emotionally. And you know our heroes are in for a tough fight as neither of them have shown the prowess of Ozymandias.
Spike from Cowboy Bebop having good fight scenes makes a lot of sense. They were really heavily inspired by Bruce Lee's fights. His fighting style is Jeet Kune Do for that reason.
Though this particular fight scene is very Jackie Chan, which is why I think it's so great. It perfectly blends together the signature styles of two icons.

God, probably one of the earliest instances of some very realistic martial arts fighting in a US film that I ever saw as a kid. I didn't know it at the time, but rewatched that recently and realized they're doing very practical fighting captured with very little fanfare. In fact, the film narrative makes it the big conflict point between the main characters, and does not seem to communicate this as "cool" but more his job. One of my favorites was the fight from "Hitori no Shita: The Outcast" Season 3 Episode 2. The first half of the fight was absolutely phenomenal.
I could not pick a favourite when it comes to Vinland Saga. Almost every one on one fight is so engaging through both the choreography and character drama.
Captain America Winter Soldier is loaded with good fights. I like the fight between Cap and Batroc at the beginning. It hits hard, and says in no uncertain terms that this ain't your "aw shucks" Captain America anymore. The first Captain America definitely had a more cartoonish feel. Winter Soldier was harder hitting both physically and narratively and the fight set that tone so well.
Nice. Really enjoying this series - ( and yes, Justified makes everything better ). Good choices. I always enjoyed the Watchmen fight scene - a bit stylized, but vicious. The Winter Soldier scene has to be the best of the MCU.
I still think the first Iron Man is a better movie than either of them, but I do like The Winter Soldier. I think I was a little let down by it, though. I wanted it to be more of an espionage thriller than it was.
I reckon you should look at the fight between the killer and the big guy in The Killer. Very suspenseful. I love fights between someone who's more skilled at fighting and someone who is bigger and stronger. Gives the fight an interesting dynamic.
There’s a Canadian TV series called Bitten where the fight scenes are so hilariously bad I couldn’t watch for very long. What makes them so funny is that they’re so serious about it as they whiff their punches and pull their kicks and fake their falls, like preschoolers trying to make Shakespeare. I was rolling.
I still think the Batman fight with Luthor's goons in Batman V Superman is my favourite Batman fight, even though the Bane one is thematically better. Its the most accurate to what I always imagined Batman fighting to be like. Its brutal, its imperfect, and hes obviously calculating every new factor as it comes at him.
The fact that you’re giving Zack his flowers while every other UA-camr just shits on him is so nice to see. Would love for you to cover the Snyder cut vs josstice league in one of these!
Snyder is very hit-or-miss, he has made great movies and enjoyable (albeit not great) movies, often highly-stylized, like 300 and Sucker Punch, as well as some real dumpster fires. It's only fair to give credit where credit is due
Snyder's gotta be one of the worst directors of all time, it's just straight fact man the guys terrible in every way, how he keeps getting such big budgets is beyond me
@@Aladelicous I’m the biggest Superman guy there is like he’s always been my number 1 and finally I just thought it was awesome that he was being taken seriously and not just a goofy Boy Scout so that’s where my love for Zack comes from tbh.
Great narrative driven story telling. By the time you got back around to Watchmen, I had nearly forgot that's how the video started. Just to toot my own horn, when I first started the video I couldn't see the screen, but instantly knew what movie and fight it was. I love me some Nat King Cole.

And your perspective on them would be greatly appreciated!!

Some of the best UA-cam content I’ve watched in a long time. You really have an amazing understanding of what makes movies great. Can’t wait for the anime episode, animation unlocks a whole new world of fight choreography. SUBCRIBED!!!!
BIG LOVE! Whole anime episode might be tricky! It'll take me a while to watch a lot of all the amazing suggestions! But I'll sprinkle clips in, every now and again!
Just found this channel today and binged the whole series. It seems the UA-cam Algorithm gods approve of your content! I've got a good/bad comparison to recommend: Good: Cinderella Man. Either the fight against Corn Griffin or the fight against Art Lasky. The stakes in EVERY fight in this movie are incredibly high. There are a few sequences with no cuts where it looks like the actors are actually beating the shit out of each other. Pretty sure Russell Crowe got pretty bruised/injured filming that one. Bad: The Temple Fight scene in the Protector (Tony Jaa) where, like Cinderella Man, he fights 3 opponents in succession. But while the set piece looks really cool and the fight choreography is also very flashy and fun to watch, it doesn't feel like there are any stakes at all. It's just a fighting showcase, and Tony seems to get three times stronger every time he gets hit (not in danger - even at the end when he actually gets defeated, the plot armor of police arriving protects him).
These are enjoyable/interesting videos. A couple questions on scenes that were perceived as visceral at the time; I don't know if they were any good, LOL. 1. The Warriors, Subway bathroom fight. 2. Casino Royale, stairwell fight. Both seemed to convey a sense of danger and consequence.
@@MarcusFlemmings It's definitely of its time and place, but overall pretty good. The underlying novel was written by someone with appreciable knowledge of the gangs in NYC at the time, with a healthy dose of Anabasis thrown in for structure.
You know, the fact how xerxes doesn't even flinch or try to evade. That alone is epic and makes it a great fight. Did you cover The Forbidden Kingdoms fighting scenes? The last one always gives me shivers, even if it's not all that spectacular ^^
14:47 yay iam in the video 😅 Btw some more anime suggestions: Orsted vs rudeus from jobless reincarnation. Megalobox fights this anime is a underrated gem btw. Vinland saga thorfin vs thorkell.

i know you arent trying to cover animes in this series, but i swear to god, not a single movie fight beats the kakashi vs obitio fight in naruto shippuden, i wish you would cover this, the music, the sound effects, the shots from old too young, its just perfect.
My favourite fight scene of all time has to be Agent Smith vs Neo in the subway from the original Matrix. They had thematically built up the Agents into these unstoppable killing machines. Nobody could beat them. And as Neo learns of his strength and continues to become the One, the perfect fight scene illustrates his growing power. I had never seen a fight scene like that. It was like an anime come-to-life.
The first anime that came to mind when you mentioned best anime fights was cowboy bebop lol. Spike's fight scenes are all pretty amazing and very fun to watch. Good choice.
A subject that I would really love you to cover on a next volume, is how a fight scene can also enhance the comedy of a movie. A few examples that came to my mind are everything everywhere all at once, bullet train or scott pilgrim. Another one that I think would be very interesting is the first scene from Wild at Heart by David Lynch. Love this series, greetings from Mexico.
The battle between Darth Vader and Reva in the Obiwan show has some serious aura. You need to see it. P.S. (I love this series. It has so much potential, and will definitely last very long. Keep up the good work dude.)
Love the content of these volumes lately. Is it possible to do a 'Bad Movie Gun Fights/Shooting vs Good Movie Gun Fights/Shooting'? I would love an analysis on guns in the world of filmmaking.
great video I really enjoy. I put my advise for Anime (1) Ninja Skoll Genma Vs Gubei (2) Cowboy Bebop the Movie (3) Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Gojo Vs Miguel (4) Sword of the stranger (5) Spriggan
I appreciate that you covered the matrix fight I suggested from a few videos ago! Now another really great fight scene you should cover is the fight between anakin and Obi wan in revenge of the sith!
One Marvel superhero fight I think always goes underappreciated, is Hulk vs the Abomination in 2008's "The Incredible Hulk". The movie itself went pretty forgotten, but I think it's a good example of how the fight between Superman and Zod in "Man of Steel" could had been done right. Usually when you have a fight between 2 people or monsters that can breaks cities apart like nothing, it's very difficult to tell the impact, so it doesn't feel like toy figures on scaled down model. But this movie seels that impact just out of its sound design alone. You can literally hear the sound of bones breaking and flesh tearing whenever they hit each other, and makes it feel all the more brutal.
Great channel, loving the series! For some really really good reality adjacent fight scenes, check out Kengan Ashura. Love that you featured Cowboy bebop scene, my fave anime!
I just found your series, and I love it! I went through all the videos on this playlist, and now I can't wait for the next one. Great stuff, man! You earned a sub. By the way, when you asked us to comment on who we thought was better, either Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan, I eon't think the comparison is fair, seeing as how Bruce has a very short list of movies, whereas Jackie has too many to count. If I have to pick one, Bruce would be the better martial artist, hands down; but for entertainment value, my choice is Jackie, no doubt. And last, but not least, when you do a video on them (Bruce and Jackie), will you include Jackie's fight with Benny "The Jet" Urquidez? That has got to be one of the best fight scenes ever put to film.
idk if anyone's recommended this, but the fight scenes in Avatar The Last Airbender are something else! (The SHOW. Not that abysmal movie) The use of martial arts as Bending powers, how to fight without those abilities, ESPECIALLY the Agni Kai duels. So Good!

Would love a "good shootouts vs bad shootouts" series
Stayed for next Sunday!
@@MarcusFlemmings "The Heat" for good shootout!
you should talk about the forwards/backwards fight scene with the turnstile in the airport in Tenet. I really like it.
Nice. Really enjoying this series - ( and yes, Justified makes everything better ). Good choices. I always enjoyed the Watchmen fight scene - a bit stylized, but vicious. The Winter Soldier scene has to be the best of the MCU.
I know most Marvel fans consider Endgame the best movie but I think The Winter Soldier is by far the best movie Marvel has done.
100%
I still think the first Iron Man is a better movie than either of them, but I do like The Winter Soldier.
I think I was a little let down by it, though. I wanted it to be more of an espionage thriller than it was.
Infinity War is way better than Endgame, and Winter Soldier is easily the best Marvel movie.
Mate how did I miss this... Love what you offer and now have subscribed. Big thanks.
you should definitly check out the kung fu panda bridge fight scene
"Shifu taught you well... But he didn't teach you everything."
Great video bro
BIG love!
I reckon you should look at the fight between the killer and the big guy in The Killer. Very suspenseful. I love fights between someone who's more skilled at fighting and someone who is bigger and stronger. Gives the fight an interesting dynamic.
I'm sure he's already done that one
I saw your pt. 4 and watched the whole 1-5 video, and then pt.6 comes out! Dude, I really love these. Can’t wait til next Sunday!
Can’t believe bro hasn’t talked about Anakin Vs Obi Wan in the battle of Mustafar. It’s choreographed very well.
To this moment, the best lightsaber fight of the whole franchise. And the music? uff, John Williams just add more awesomeness to the fight.
@@claudiocontrerasgomez2949i still count duel of the fates above it but they were both amazing
The only people that don't like it are the ones that think "good" choreography is swinging lightsabers around like baseball bats.
@@lessalazar9068 I can bet my entire life savings that no one on earth has said that
I have NEVER commented this much on anyone's videos. Cowboy Bebop is my all-time favorite anime, and you chose well, Sir! You have a fan for life.
@1:45 "300 is based.". That`s where you should`ve stopped the sentence!
Haywire son!!! Most underrated spy thriller ever.
Just found out that serie and binged the hell out of it. Fantastic work, keep it up!
This has become my favorite series
Honestly it's so good
Massive love!
Thank you!
this is honestly my favorite series on yt right now
MASSIVE LOVE!!
Drunken master II is incredible for the narrative of its fights
Dam this is good... and he’s really good at narrating...I’m subbing!
Big love!!!
I need to know what the scene at 5:48 is from. Dude, that shit is awesome! Like, that's some high level garbage. I love that shit lmao
Its from a Neil breen film...!
New fav channel. Great stuff man!
Massive love!!!
I concur . Would’ve loved to have way more of that or a whole movie of that flavor . Brutal, visceral Batman action .
Literally just watched volumes 1-5 of this series earlier today lol, great videos keep up the good work ✊
The fact that you’re giving Zack his flowers while every other UA-camr just shits on him is so nice to see.
Snyder's gotta be one of the worst directors of all time, it's just straight fact man the guys terrible in every way, how he keeps getting such big budgets is beyond me
He's good at action, but not as good outside of that. Especially when he's not adapting a scene from some other source.
@@Aladelicous I’m the biggest Superman guy there is like he’s always been my number 1 and finally I just thought it was awesome that he was being taken seriously and not just a goofy Boy Scout so that’s where my love for Zack comes from tbh.
@@Grimnir_x If it's still your opinion, it's not "straight facts" you dummy lol
Great narrative driven story telling. By the time you got back around to Watchmen, I had nearly forgot that's how the video started.
Just to toot my own horn, when I first started the video I couldn't see the screen, but instantly knew what movie and fight it was.
I love me some Nat King Cole.
Hahhaah! Toot away! And thanks for the kind words!
Where is the fight scene at 16:28 from?
Chocolate! A thai film.
@@MarcusFlemmings Ahh it's been on my list for a while, that short clip might have sealed the deal. Thanks!
Well, my monday morning started with "300 is, subjectively, the best Zack Snyder's work". All I can do is throw my hand into the air, hold another one to my heart and chant "PREACH". As always, fantastic job, Marcus.
Also, MA, I'M ON TV!
Big love x 2! You're on TV!!!!
That begging fight in watchmen has narrative weight after you finish the movie, as that is what sets off everything to happen afterwards in the movie
Totally agree! But what I meant was, as you watch the film for the frist time it doesn't :)
@@MarcusFlemmings ohhhh ok gotcha 👍
man as always awesome!!! That scene from Watchmen just sublime. Love how they create that effect for 300. And hell yes the Winter Solider!! Really would love to see you do a progression from the 70s Kung Fu films to the 80s then to the 90s and maybe beyond there is so much gold out there. And your perspective on them would be greatly appreciated!!
12:00 I haven't watched Black Widow but from this clip you showed, that is not bad or even the worst CG I've seen from this movie. I know what bad CG moment you're talking about but it ain't this one.
@@MarcusFlemmings just as good I love the regular content just as much!!!
12:39 While I really like your professional tone in your videos, I loved how absolutely annoyed you sounded when you went off on this trope!
Just found this channel today and binged the whole series. It seems the UA-cam Algorithm gods approve of your content! I've got a good/bad comparison to recommend:
Good: Cinderella Man.
Both of these are great recs! Thanks for watching and subbing as well :)
Outstanding video... Thank you for this moment.
Thanks for the suggestion of Den of Thieves, i needed some suggestions for movies at home.
I know you showcased some Banshee fights in another vid, but the boxing match in s1 is unbelivably impactfull
Thought you had the Witcher fight as a bad fight from the thumbnail! Think that's the most badass sword fight I've ever seen!
Love this! I've seen ALOT of movies, as you can imagine...but never seen The Warriors!
14:47 yay iam in the video 😅
Btw some more anime suggestions:
Orsted vs rudeus from jobless reincarnation.
Megalobox fights this anime is a underrated gem btw.
Vinland saga thorfin vs thorkell.
Difficult to pick one best martial arts movie, but Kung Fu Hustle would be hard to beat....
i just binged vol 1-5 and checked out alot of your other videos just yesterday, what a treat to get 6 the next day! awesome work Marcus, great content you have on your channel!
Great series man! Just caught up with them today and just so happened this just came out. Keep doing these !
Massive love!
Great series. I watched 5 episodes yesterday and here comes the Sunday evening with a new one.
i know you arent trying to cover animes in this series, but i swear to god, not a single movie fight beats the kakashi vs obitio fight in naruto shippuden, i wish you would cover this, the music, the sound effects, the shots from old too young, its just perfect.
I love fight scenes that are done in one take without a bunch of cuts. It's easier to follow and it just feels better
These videos are really entertaining and help me better enjoy fight scenes. Thanks!
Looking forward to this all week! Keep up the great work 👍
Please do a deep dive into Jackie Chan.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND:
Ip Man vs Mike Tyson (Ip Man 3)
Faora-Ul vs Kal-El (Superman)
Julie Estelle (The Operator) vs Two Assassins (Night comes for us)
Saw this notification while at work, home now to watch. 😊
I love this series !!!! Literally goose bumps on the Cowboy Bebop scene !!!
Jeremy Irons was the only person on that set that understood what movie they were making.
YES!!!
looking forward to the anime fights episode!
Love the content of these volumes lately. Is it possible to do a 'Bad Movie Gun Fights/Shooting vs Good Movie Gun Fights/Shooting'? I would love an analysis on guns in the world of filmmaking.
Stay tuned for next Sunday!
The scrap at the end of the premiere episode of "the old man" is great
Also Boardwalk Empire has done great brawls... particularly Eli vs Agent Knox
There is something special about the way cowboy bebop is animated, still holds up SO well, glad the masterpiece was featured 💪
great video I really enjoy. I put my advise for Anime (1) Ninja Skoll Genma Vs Gubei (2) Cowboy Bebop the Movie (3) Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Gojo Vs Miguel (4) Sword of the stranger (5) Spriggan
Love the vids, 2 ideas for fight eferences: 1- Alita battle angel film (bar fight and altia vs zapon), and 2- dragon ball z goku vs vegeta buu saga
I am so happy you showed jin vs hand of god of samurai Champloo, it's magnificent. I wonder why you haven't showed Scot Adkins undisputed yet.
Love that you featured Cowboy bebop scene, my fave anime!
if you want to dig into animated fights, there's a freebie here on the tube that's guile vs winter soldier that you might like.
keep up the good work
I just found your series, and I love it!
I know it’s still new but the Deadpool & Wolverine.
Just discovered this series today and I love it so much.
idk if anyone's recommended this, but the fight scenes in Avatar The Last Airbender are something else! (The SHOW. Not that abysmal movie)
The use of martial arts as Bending powers, how to fight without those abilities, ESPECIALLY the Agni Kai duels. So Good!
Another great piece of content. Still waiting to see Grosse Point Blank fight sequence though. 😊
pahaahhaha! Just for you, I'll download it right this second!
