      for anime fights.
History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi Shirahama. as for the best for personally its the final fight of season 1. Kenichi vs Odin. personally just watch the entire anime. its a martial artist one so you should like it. basically taking true martial arts to the extreme with a touch of anime. like adding Ki as a factor which is a physical presence or I guess an aura. makes those who can use it stronger than any normal human. one is from the manga much later where one of the characters caught up to a missile jumped on it and disabled it before heading back to the other. tho only 2 people on the planet can do that.

"dance with the devil in the...pale moonlight" means you do something immoral on purpose for personal enjoyment, and he says it because he "always asks that of his prey" because he is not only insane, but he wants to know if who he is killing or harming basically has done bad things, just like him.

I believe the best response to the no gun rule is a Good Shootout vs Bad Shootout series or video. There are several examples I can think of, many of them Westerns of western inspired that have just as much or more attention put into them as fight scenes. By the way, this series is fantastic!

Napier (before he becomes The Joker) kills Bruce’s parents and says “tell me kid have you ever danced with that Devil in the pale moonlight”. Dancing with the Devil is to engage in risky, reckless, or potentially immoral behavior. When The Joker now says it to Bruce Wayne many years later, Bruce makes the connection that he is the one that killed his parents.

Best "action star" of the 80's in my opinion is Harrison Ford specifically in Indiana Jones. I say this because he is one of the only mainstream action hero's in that time period that is vulnerable. His fights are visceral, and he doesn't always win. He is extremely intense and devoted to his role, and he shows humanity and struggle. But, most importantly, he truly perseveres.

tbh I think I agree with this. Indy is also one of the few action movies from 80s that still holds up BECAUSE of those reasons. It helps that they are such tremendously well made movies overall too. Spielberg has ALWAYS been a fantastic director of action sequences at all stages of his career. but having Indiana Jones just throwing haymakers and getting his ass beat will NEVER get old. Plus, he's just a fairly average guy - sure he's tough - but he's not supposed to be portraying a skilled martial artists or elite boxer. Some movies like Rocky bother me because they are so inaccurate to REAL boxing. It almost feels disrespectful lol! Indy is just an everyman throwin hands lol

Also...within both the context of the show and the lore/rules of the world it takes place in, Galadriel can't be held to the same same rules as the humans around her. Because she's NOT human. She's an elf. And elves in LotR are preternatural in their fleetness, grace and speed. Also, magic is almost inherent to their nature and they are known to be more than a bit ostentatious in battle with their movements. All of this is supported by all six movies in the cinematic saga.
Latching onto Galadriel's technique in this video was a stretch. It fits within the rules of the fantasy it takes place in and I believe that should always be taken into account when judging a cinematic fight. If the character's actions don't break the rules of the universe they're in, then it shouldn't be considered a negative. (Besides, the move looked dope as hell IMO.)

It's a stupid trend to conflate fantasy with a lack of realism. Fantasy works because it has realistic elements, that's why the elves aren't "purple goo people from Zornbacklungss that come from the Bronx", they are instead fae-like people, while having magical elements (they are inspired from myths), they are part of the world as much as a hobbit, a human or a dwarf. Her doing that was fucking stupid because it only makes sense if you throw out all logic out of the window, and then, the whole world might as well be made out of cardboard and written by Dr. Seuss.

The ending clip of this video indicated you’ll be talking about monkey man soon. PLEASE HEAR ME OUT: the shaky cam in that film is the one case of shaky cam making sense
The first intense action sequence in the film has a lot of shaky cam to show how the main character is inexperienced and unprepared, falling victim to fighters and attacks he couldn’t see coming and wasn’t prepared for, so when the shaky cam makes it hard to see what happened it’s because the protagonist didn’t see what happened
Contrast this with the final action sequence and it’s so much more streamlined and clear because he’s has his training and knows he can overcome each fighter presented. It’s an effective use of disorienting shaky cam to put us in the mindset of an inexperienced fighter

I still don't really understand the obsession with never using guns in fights. You end up missing out or skipping over really good fight scenes with the excuse of "there are guns" as if that somehow immediately makes a scene bad. Some of the best fight scenes I've watched have included guns. Would really appreciate a reasoning for this that makes more sense.
Edit: a lot of people are talking about reasons why he might not discuss gun fights in these videos, but that's not the point. He has repeatedly used gun fights as an example of how to NOT do an action scene, the big example. It's not just that he doesn't want to discuss them, he's actively saying guns in fight scenes are bad.

I think it's because he's trying to limit the scope of the series RN to mostly martial-arts based scenes where the hits, cuts, cinematography, and choreography have to be a lot higher level to pull off in a passable way. But that's just my assumption lol

i agree, but i like this format already, it's just you know what you get into right of the bat, and for me atleast when someone says fight, i'm thinking it's a close quarter combat with fist and melee weapon like that. maybe he can start new series called bad movie shootout vs good movie shootout

Dude, the best hand to hand fight scene from the 80s has to be Die Hard. Remember when John had to fight Karl one on one? Although the sound effects for each hit were greatly exaggerated, but you felt the punches, especially on DTS sound with big floor speakers 😂. But the fight also had a deep emotional connection because John killed his brother earlier in the movie.

My personal favorites for anime fight scenes are Vivy's: Fluorite Eyes Song (specially Episode 9) and Fog HIll of Five Elements (not really an anime but yes, there are some hands there and i dont want to involve flashy ones like opm or fate).
Once again im including here Red vs Blue fight scenes, the choreographies are top notch despite being animated 14+ years ago

When it comes to good anime fight scenes, I would recommend checking out the fight between Mob and Koyama from Mob Psycho 100 season 1. It starts rather one-sided with the protagonist refusing to fight back, taking blow after blow. The moment after Koyama hits Mob's brother, things shift dramatically resulting in the excessive collateral damage expected from an anime fight scene. Can't recommend it and the series it's in enough.
Shimazaki vs everyone from season 2 is also good, but since it contains most of the cast of season 1 throwing psychic powers around it's not really something to watch without the full context.

instead of adding "tv" to the title, why not just remove "movie" instead,
it'd be just "bad fights vs good fights", with a good thumbnail as exposition to make sure people understand it's fiction/pop culture, you're all set
EDIT: and great video as always

oh good fights for anime, there are many available. However, one possible problem is either cannon or filler. Anime have loads of filler because the manga wasn't over yet when the animation began. And speaking of manga, I'd suggest Dragonball, of course! The writer was called Akira Toriyama and he was a master of making the flow of the pages be easy to follow - and it became apparent that it isn't as easy as it seems, Toyotaro is writing Dragonball Super and he is not as good.
Anyway, for anime fights I nominate:
Goku beats Buu with a Genki Dama: look for a japanese audio version, the americans tend to change the script, but there is a romantic (idealized) end to that battle. Goku says he enjoyed the fight, the enemy was strong and then he does the final attack that kills him.
In Samurai X, I like when Kenshin first fights Saito. Kenshin is a former assassin that decided to live a peaceful life as a vagrant, but he will defend himself when needed. Up until then, no one was on the same level of the protagonist but this guy almost made him regress into assassin mode.
For Naruto, my favorite fight is Maito Guy versus Madara. Naruto lasted about 15 years and there was one technique introduced in the first year: the 8 gates of life. If you open the last gate, you get exponentially stronger, but die after the move. And the author only showed us the effect of the last gate during the fight with the final villain (Madara wasn't really the final enemy, but he looked like it at the time).
In demon slayer, I like the first time we see Zenitsu sleep - his training takes over and he acts without panic. It is the exemple I use on why manga and anime is dominating american comic books.
And then there is Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, do not watch the other FMA. For FMAB, there are three fights that I find amazing. Roy versus Envy - because Roy was looking for the murderer of his friend. He didn't believe Envy's confession at first but went killer mode when convinced. Father versus everyone after Father absorbs God - it is amazing how everyone (even former enemies) come together to fight the big bad villain. And then Edward fights Father after Alphonse's sacrifice - visceral battle with a demigod monster after losing one's brother.
By the way, if you want a bad anime battle: 6 tails Naruto versus Pain.
In the manga, both characters are doing high level techniques and the fight seems desperate. In the anime, they turned it into looney tunes - Naruto uses cartoon hands to grab a stone pillar and hit Pain to the ground like a nail.

Ghost in the Shell 2 has superb animation that is still unmatched to this day. It's not specifically shonen styled and has a more serious tone, and apart from two or three scenes, there isn't much explicit action, however it's one of the best animated and stylish of the genre in the few scenes it has.
I recommend it just for the dialogue scenes as well, explores cyberpunk themes

As for best anime fight scenes. Take a look at Gaolang Wongsawat VS Kanoh Agito, from the anime Kengan ashura. Its in my opinion one of the best fights in the enitre anime because of the amazing exchanges and intensity behind the fight. It may not have many emotions or stakes. but it does highlight one of the characters' emotions, especially after the fight.

Piggybacking on my Kenichi comment from the last video... The best fights I can think of without rewatching the whole series would be... Kenichi vs Takeda the Puncher, Miu vs Kisara (while Kenichi fights the rest of Kisara's gang), Kenichi vs Thor feels very gritty as they are fighting in a hole in the ground, and last, but never least Kenichi's fight vs Odin at the end. The fight takes 2 or 3 episodes, but it's absolutely worth it!

If you want a good anime fight, you should definitely check out the final fight from Sword of the Stranger. The fight itself is great, but the rest of the movie provides needed context to really propel it. The protagonist, Nanashi has refused to unsheathe his sword throughout the film due to war trauma, and I can really only compare it to the ending scene of Die Hard in a way. I'll leave it at that so everyone can come to their own thoughts on it, but it's maybe my favorite fight in anime.
