Episode Two. Classic moments from this send up of The Scarlet Pimpernel, featuring great performances from Sid James, Kenneth Williams and Charles Hawtrey
I saw this film at 15 years of age today I´m 41 and still remember every single line ,its the perfect Carry On.It gave me great joy and Am so please to know that I was not the only one to enjoy this filme...
People wonder why these movies endure, most say innocence of humour etc. but personally I'd say it's the cinematography, especially the period ones like Jack, Dick and this, they're just beautiful, like moving oil pantings
Charles Hawltry lived in Wanstead ,East London for a while - he lived in a flat owned by a friend of my father's. This is one of my favourite Carry On's!
I've just spotted a continuity error: the snuff box was originally placed lower down in the runnel, but when Sir Rodney goes back up to the guillotine, after the blade got stuck, the snuff box is much higher up.
Hands up who noticed the street sign PLACE DE LA TETE PRUNE? ("Place of the Head Pruning") lol. The Carry Ons are full of things like that...but you have to be quick! Also note that _Don't Lose Your Head_ has some very rare adlibs. Despite the comedy, these films were very tightly scripted and adlibs were unusual. This movie contains at least two: Charles Hawtrey (as the Count De Pom Frite...who nearly has his chips...lol) says "put it in the basket. I'll read it later". And second, when Peter Butterworth as Citizen Bidet accidentally loses his hat Kenneth Williams (Camembert) says "Mind yer hat!". This is also unscripted and the hat coming off would normally have required a retake of the scene. This film was made at the height of the Carry On films popularity, as witness the large cast, and extensive use of many extras, as well as expensive costumes, sets and locations. The Dress Ball for example.
I worked on Camping. They paid low rates but they were all very professional people and everyone loved working on them. Schedules were ridiculously short so everything was done fast. Hard work but good fun too. Don’t Lose Your Head borrowed costumes and sets from Scarlet Pimpernel, while Cleo used sets and costumes that had been intended for Cleopatra. So they always looked more expensive than they were.
@@metalbearuk it was great fun. I did the what is now called adr so spent hours in the sound recording theatre with the cast. Only Kenneth Williams was a disappointment as he was in a foul mood the day he came in. But I liked them all lots. Bette Marsden got me drunk one evening. I adored Joan Sims who made me laugh so much one day I got thrown out until I could calm down!
@@paultrevorbale2440 Great recollections there. I bet you'd have to be very lucky to get Kenneth Williams on a good day! The nice words about Betty Marsden and Joan Sims don't surprise me, I can imagine them both being a hoot.
I saw this on the television a couple of weeks ago and I did not find it as funny as I seem to recall from seeing it in the late 1970s. On the other hand, I thought Carry on Behind was hilarious!
Loved the Carry on series! 😂 sid James and Kenneth Williams were my favs 👍

They don't make funny movies like these anymore, can watch them a thousand times & I still would have a good ole belly laugh!!!!
One of the greatest comedies on Earth. I've enjoyed every single one. Should watch their Carry On Laughing series. Too good.
I've seen some of the episodes and it is hilarious.
Jim Dale and Sid James together in this were brilliant as was Kenneth Williams
"Drop it in the basket, I'll read it later. Short back & sides, not too much orf the top"

One of the funniest of the series.
This Carry On Film had Kenneth Williams playing one of his best Carry On baddies.

This is one of my favourite Carry On's!
keeping a watchful eye out for queue jumpers !! Brilliant comedy!
"That's enough really! All this fuss over a silly little duel!" 😄
You should have had the bit "So you're looking for the black fingernail?..Here you are" -smacks his finger with a small hammer-
"Im Camembert, Im the Big Cheese!!"
classic
Missed a good bit - about Bidet's father being a basket maker.
"Did you see that? He deliberately pushed me!"
Sir Rodney Effing..
..with two effs..
The bewigged..

Found myself chuckling. A crime in the UK 2020. Best report myself to the police.
The Carry On's were made with what would be considered a tiny budget these days, but they always looked incredibly well made.

@@paultrevorbale2440 I envy you(in a nice way!) Must have been great to work on the British classic that is Camping.
