Lyrics:
Bat your eyes girl, be otherworldly,
count your blessings, seduce a stranger.
What's so wrong with being happy?
Kudos to those who see through sickness.
When she woke in the morning
she knew that her life had passed her by.
And she called out a warning,
Don't ever let life pass you by.
I suggest we learn to love ourselves before it's made illegal.
When will we learn? When will we change?
Just in time to see it all fall down.
Those left standing... will make millions...
writing books on the way it should have been.
"love ourselves before its made illegal" hits much harder in 2024
Totally agree 👍 ❤❤❤
Incubus is one of those bands that make you feel every emotion possible with one song
I cry everytime I hear this song. It was my friend's favorite song. He died back in 2017 in a bad car crash. I was there with him. We were listening to this exact song when a drunk driver swerved right into us, running is off the road. He died upon collision and I suffered a concussion. Now I cry when I hear this song because it's associated with a traumatic event in my life-- losing someone whom I considered a brother. 😔
That’s sad 😢
That is a difficult deal. I hope your heart mends.
Wow. I'm so sorry for your loss.
Been there he was drinking and driving by himself and I left the party without saying goodbye never know what life will throw at you
Aqueous Transmission by Incubus was the song that defined the very beginning of my friendship with my late best friend and soul brother 'Shaggy' (Kevin Arus-Altuz according to his state ID but of course no one ever called him that lol). We lost him in November 2012. He died suddenly at his parents home one night from an adverse reaction to an illicit research chemical/drug. It devastated everyone who knew him, because he wasn't a heavy drug user or addict. It was just a 'wrong turn at Albuquerque' that unfortunately took him straight to an early grave. Way too early. After that, our song and all the lyrics took on an even deeper meaning. It went from a sad break-up song to one about devastating loss but still holding onto hope, so now I'm doing my best to stay on this river journey called Life as long as possible, praying when I reach the end that Shaggy will be waiting on the shore to greet me, and I can finally give him all the memories and stories I've been collecting for him. Whenever I fall apart and the grief starts to set in and shut me down, I play Aqueous Transmission and it helps me smile again. Or at least not cry all day. I'm sorry for the loss of your friend and what you went through. Hang in there :)
*edit: I also survived a near fatal car crash when a drunk driver in 2008 smashed the car I was in 500 ft down the road and into a ditch. He hit my side (front passenger) with his 2 ton Chevy at 50mph. Never hit the brakes.
You survived that crash for a reason. Just like I did. Even if we can never really know why or how. Or why we we're the ones who got to stay, but our friends didn't get to. But my point is this, we still have the rest of our lives to try and figure those questions out. I'll be praying for you, and wish you all the best.
This song literally aged like fine wine
I was just coming here to say the same thing.
Bruh you dont need to say literally but yeah we get the point trruuuueee😊

"I suggest we learn to love ourselves before it’s made illegal" is a reference to the book "1984."

I’m so glad I’m not the only person who caught that lol
And 2020, lol

You enjoyed the tunes and how Incubus rocked when you were young. You realize and appreciate the poetry in the lyrics of their songs when you grow old.
Well said, Brsndon B is a lyrical genius.
I only now just realized they were singing about awakening this whole time. It's beautiful.
Y E S wow
Some apreciate them the moment their lyrics caresses their eardrums .
Music has always been my language as it for so many others out there
Yessss!
This song hits me hard. I'm a recovering addict sober for 5 almost 6 years. Alot of my life passed me by. UPDATE: 7yrs as of 4/20/2023! Thanks for all of the kind words they mean so much to me and keep me going 💕
Looks like you still gog a lot of life still in you. Start there. 🤍
We're proud of you. One day at a time.
Ditto. I’ve been off the wagon going on 11 years now. Keep it up Luna. It’s a life long struggle. We’ve seen and done bad, burned bridges etc. but we aren’t beyond redemption.
Taking responsibility for our choices and doing well for our friends and family is the goal. I hope you are enjoying sobriety & still doing well.
Happy New Year,

Happy for u, hope u never go back. A good friend was clean for a yr then died. Ppl think they can do what they did previously& can't. Keep it up, stay.strong!
I turn 50 this year and I feel this deeply....... Still one of the dopest music videos ever.
Agreed, it’s a dope video. I’m about to be 43 and I still use “dope” to describe the things I dig. Damn we’re getting old. Haha. Happy New Year.
I just turned 52 and this vid just hit me right in the feels ...
Going to be 50 this year and the 90s forever hit me like waves on the ocean
I'll be 49 this year. Where the hell did time go?
Someone very close to me took their life almost 11 years ago this month. I remember this song coming on the radio on the drive home from the funeral and listening to the words for the first time. I listened to this song often during that very difficult period. It gave me a lot of the hope I needed to move forward. This is a great tune! For anyone feeling alone out there remember pain is temporary and there is always hope and support out there. It's our responsibility to find it.
Matthew Wortmann wise words my friend.
My condolences.

Poetry with a pure point.
Genius.
Grew up on Incubus; and now, at age 33, going through a break up after 8 years together, I am experiencing Incubus again, as if it were the first time. Lyrics hitting differently & the same 15+ years later.
I've been through break ups and a divorce, it does get better.
The same for me! It’s special right!
their music is ageless, hope it gets you through this difficult time, break ups are never easy but soon life will be better.
Certain Shade of Green always makes the feelings better
Sucks. Let life go forward. Who knows who you may run across.
One of the most powerful music videos I’ve seen. God I miss the days when bands put out a video that carried a strong message.
Exactly!! I know we're getting older, but too many have been taken from us at such a young age. I am just grateful that we got to hear & experience it all.
We live in a world of moral relativism where there is no objective good or bad so you arent allowed to have any strong stance one way or another unless it is blind "acceptance" and "there is no correct way"... we are godless, we are lost.
Y’all remember watching this when MTV played videos? Getting dressed for school in the mornings and this song on the tv
Heck Ya ! Getting ready for High School and doing my hair watching MTV ! 1986.....EPIC TIME

I've been to countless concerts in my day and disturbed and Incubus are literally the only two bands that sound exactly like their album. Very talented artists all the way around.
Incubus. One of the greatest bands of all time. LEGIT in all times. Still listening ❤
Brings me back to my teenage years. Wish I would have understood the lyrics back then. Incubus is a great band.
This song helped me through my depression when I was 15.
I’m 34 and thriving now.
This seems to be a very VERY common experience. Amazing.
@@daredoggo I’m really glad it is. It’s amazing how something so seemingly innocuous as a song can literally change peoples entire lives.
I have “10:24” tattooed on my knuckles. When I was younger my dad and I loved this song (and still do). Whenever I was stressed about something small/losing sight of the larger picture, he’d whisper “10:24” as a reminder to refocus/recenter myself. Whenever I see my hand it brings a smile to my face and puts me in a better headspace

This is by far the best incubus song. They were so musically connected with eachother song. They could have not made it any better. This song has made me not want to throw away my life, and just live it. It is beautiful in every which way.
It's crazy how these songs speak to you in times of adversity, isn't it? I have had a similar experience.
Nice to hear that ..... Each life are precious.. "dont ever let life pass u by"
One of the most amazing pieces of music I have ever or will ever hear. Incubus weren't just in the zone during this period, they were in another dimension
Hell yea. This song is a classic. But the most amazing piece of music written is a mightttyyy strong statement.
As a drummer myself, The drum part is so melodic, every hit means something,
I love this so much
This song came out 20 years ago. It was great back then and it’s still sound good

Yess!! Facts!!
Incubus is pretty damn timeless. They dont fit into anyone genre..
They coukd have entered the industry in any decade and made it
I loved how back in the day the media tried to label them as nu metal, then immediately after they were like..."oh....but that's not right..."
I love Incubus, been a fan of them for a long time. I can ironically sing their songs being a girl and all you would think that it would be impossible for me, but it's actually not with the way my vocal range is designed I can do it.
@@synccrow114 while Incubus definitely had nu metal aspects, it wasn't nu metal as a whole. Morning View is defintely not nu metal. Make Yourself isn't even that nu metal (some songs kinda) the only nu metal albums Incubus had were Fungus Amongus and Science. Even those albums weren't soley nu metal either.
Wouldnt the genre be alternative rock?

“She woke in the morning”
I tripped on acid the other night and listened to this song. I’ve listened to this song since I was a kid. And it wasn’t until then that line could be interpreted as “she woke in the mourning”
Mourning for her life that had passed her by. Song got even deeper after that.
Thanks for the new perspective of the song.
Ohhh dude
Omg yes! Thank you for this!
I just dropped some acid too! Fuck it
Damn dude! Changed the feeling of the song a bit. Also love the power that psychedelics can give you. Deeper level thinking type of stuff
The 2000s was amazing for alternative bands. There were so many and they all had a different style to them which made it enjoyable to listen to. Incubus, Foo Fighters, Switchfoot, 311, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, ect. Nowadays I can't think of any good alternative band since the 2010s, such a shame.
Mark Canales catfish and the bottlemen!
Foo Fighters and Switchfoot are still going strong. Linkin Park and Muse are good bands too.
Id go as far to include the latter 90's as well. But that may end up dating me 😊.
All u find is rap this sad bc I’m 12 and everyone wears rap stuff and I have incubus, nirvana, rhcp, and atl shirts on and their like who that
Hopefully, there's a lot of good alt rock bands !

This song was put out before it’s time. UNDERRATED
Yes people are still watching in your year because this song is a hard hitter
Probably one of my favorite songs by them.
A favorite of mine, period.
I remember I used to listen to this album from start to finish and the whole thing was amazing!
I'm so happy I live in a world where I can just hit repeat on a playlist with all the incubus music videos.
I fell in love with Incubus at 14 when this song was first played on the (actual) MTV. I felt so touched by it, made me cry everytime. Now at 35, after I've wasted the last 20 years on addiction... its like my 14 yr old self felt my future pain and undertood what was to come 😪
How many people does this young woman represent? How many have wanted to scream at the very institutions that force us to bury our pain, sell our souls, or a combination of the two? Love the video - Very powerful. And don't ever be afraid to find a private space and scream your f**king head off. The right energy will always hear your screams.
Bull Falls, I love the way you think! Let's make the world hear our love and pain because it's all we have in the end.
Most have been taught to hide and bury our pain, which, by it's very nature, is negative energy that's now stored deep within the hard-drive that is our subconscious. Negative energy is the root cause of many illnesses, and we're just now being taught this. Imagine a world where we share our pain with one another? Where men can share their deepest secrets without the fear of being called a "homo" or "queer" for being mildly vulnerable to his friends, or to society for that matter. Or a world where women never have to fear being emotionally or physically beaten down and are valued as equals, if not valued even to a higher standard for being the very life that conceives, feeds, and nurtures new life. I picture a world where more people will one day hear the screams and come running towards that vibration to join in and release their pain. It's time to take the world back....In fact, it's time to take our own world back.
Bull Falls PREACH!!😊😊
Alright , that's enough buzzkill. Shut up , turn out the lights , go to bed.
Bull Falls me everyday I have rage
My interpretation of the song: We often get caught of in our tedious little lives that we stop taking note of the more important things, rarely stopping to smell the roses. Later on, before you know it, you're 80. You're old, tired and reflecting back on what you would have done differently. Don't be that guy. Stop and enjoy life. Don't let it pass you by.
The THOT anthem.
I intend to get this phrase tattoed: "Don't ever let life pass you by". It's so important to me, I was in really bad times when I heard this song for the first time. And I kept this as a "mantra" to myself, to take control of my life and be brave. And it Works! Im so Glad for this song and for Incubus :)

Long time fan of Incubus, especially Mike Einziger's guitar arrangements. He's been a huge inspiration since I first heard Fungus Amongus. It's also nice to see Brandon writing new material with Sons Of The Sea. Good stuff for sure.
Definitely one of the more unique guitarists around. This whole band has always been really well put together, all of em are extremely talented musicians.

"Love ourselves before it's made illegal"
This line hits so damn hard, especially because of how often we as individuals tend to have already made self-love "illegal"
When I was younger, I would hear this song and it would make me focus on being my best self. I hear it today as a 32 year old man, and again, I'm faced with the same feeling.

The meaning of this is so dope first of all. Secondly, I love how the verses don't necessarily rhyme but it's so subtle that one hardly even notices because the cadence and meaning carries so much more of the weight. I sit here watching this video 12 years later in tears thinking about the adversity I've faced around every corner in an attempt to make sure I never look back and have to issue a "warning". It's been a long ride and I'm still not completely there yet, but one thing is definitely for sure...if I fuck me, I'll fuck me in my own way.
thanks
Nick Perkins that was a perfect way to end a well worded statement

To help figure out our confusing times
I just watched my first Incubus concert, and it was a blast! I made sure to sing my heart out specially on this song! This is my favorite Incubus song!

Thank you sirs for writing your songs... I've been in love with you for about 15 years and have never found myself in a spot where this song is more appropriate than now. You really are life changers, future present and past. Honestly, thank you for all you've done!
