Lots of people may see this as somewhat of a "comic-book" song based on the title and the lyrics, and there's certainly that aspect to it. But Buck Dharma's guitar playing is top tier here, he's just ripping it up from start to finish and the fills between the lyrics are brilliant.
Hey neighbor, happy Labor Day to you also. I am a lifelong Blue Öyster Cult fan. I have seen them dozens of times and they’re always awesome live. A couple more songs to check out are Cities On Flame and Burnin’ For You.
Me too. Grace Under Pressure tour. Augusta Georgia, April 1986. Was this the show you saw them together? They never actually toured together, but they played together for 3 shows in 86 and once back in 78 in New Haven.
No lie, I first heard this song in fifth grade. It was the first “rock” song that instantly hooked me. It’s been a Highway to Hell ever since that moment.
In 1978 I got my first record player for Christmas. Along with it I got 3 albums to start my collection. Cheap Trick live at Budokan, The Cars first album and BOC Some Enchanted Evening (live album). Godzilla was one of the first songs I ever owned (and subsequently played ad nauseum).
Very clever song although I didn't really get the true meaning of it when I was a kid but I did know that it rocked really hard, and I even covered in a band in high school. I never get tired of hearing this. Even just right now I heard some little detail in the guitar when it was doing the call and answer in the verses and of course what he was doing during the solo, and so there is so much there to sink your teeth and your brain into. And it's just fun so why not here at a whole bunch of times, laugh.
Hey RHN, B.O.C. is awesome. Even better live. They have a whole schwack load of tunes as well. Great band. Excellent reaction RHN. Check out more of them if you can. I'm sure you know Don't fear the reaper.
I am a longtime fan. They have a very diverse catalog, from blues, metal, jazz, and some progressive. They like to tour, I probably saw them 10 times, from big arenas to the last time at a casino. Probably 2nd favorite after Rush
Hey RHN, the first time I saw Rush was in 1978 in New Haven, CT., after the roads reopened following the North Eastern US being shut down for a week by “The Blizzard of ‘78”. Rush played first (equal billing?) before Blue Oyster Cült on this Spectres tour. I was fortunate to see Rush 6 times in total, last in Florida in 1992. The next time I saw Blue Oyster Cült was in a small club in my hometown. They did not seem at all pleased to be there. My point- Rush’s wall of Marshall amps were placed on stage in front of B.O.C.’s wall of Marshall amps. There was so little room left on stage for Rush to play that it looked like they were playing in a box. As for Rush, you know the rest of the story😊
Rush-BOC, Randhurst Ice Arena 1975. Rush made it hard to want to listen to anyone else but BOC was certainly one I had space for. Their first half dozen albums were an absolute blast. I'm in the mood so now I have to bring up Agents of Fortune. Thx, Red.
I've seen these guys a few times starting back in the 70s. One of the times was at the Texxas Jam back in Jun '79. If I remember correctly they didn't come on stage until well after midnight. History shows again and again How nature points out the folly of men
You can't go wrong with Blue Oyster Cult as this fine example shows. It was a huge hit and that entire album is worth a listen, utterly classic stuff. Try, Are You Ready to Rock, also from Specters, they have tons of songs to try, they were so good and no 2 songs sound alike, the mark of a great band. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎹🎶🔥
Here are some of my favorite BOC songs that are reaction worthy, hopefully others will agree. Burnin for you Astronomy Veteran of the Psychic Wars Then Came the Last Days of May Don't Fear the Reaper
COOL! Wouldn't have guessed you would do this song. Thanks to the viewer/donater! Got to see these guys forever ago. The opening band was Black And Blue. Don't remember their contribution 😅 One of those guitar 🎸 solos where the tone settings were just right (IMHO). Nice Job Neighbor! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
Wow ...!... one of my favorite 70's bands ... besides the usual Reaper, Burning for U etc stuff I would like to hear Black Blade, Astronomy or Veteran of Psychic wars, preferably the live version with an extended awesome solo from Buck!!
After only knowing Don't Fear The Reaper which is such a great song. I one day thought, why on earth have I never listened to any of their other stuff! So I listened to just about everything they've ever done early last year here on you tube. Loved them and so varied musically. Some of their lyrics may be a bit dark but the music is continually great though.
Greetings from San Diego's resident Rushoholic. Rush and B Ö C were touring partners (Rush was the opener) in the '70s. If Blue Öyster Cult is scary, it's tame by today's standard. Eric Bloom and Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser are the ones who remain from the original quintet forrmed in Stonybrook Long Island, NY back in 1967 and they were called Soft White Underbelly. They've been recording and performing ever since based out of New York City. One question that begs is: why is Blue Öyster Cult still not in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame? I thought Rush waited a long time. Godzilla is on the album SPECTRES from 1977. There are 3 other '70s B Ö C albums that also form a wellspring of material to react to. They're called SECRET TREATIES, AGENTS OF FORTUNE and MIRRORS. The other question that begs is: does Eric Bloom plan to be buried wearing sunglasses or glasses with enough tint to nearly conceal his eyes? I've never known him to take them off! Red, both you and Dave stay cool and stay classy...
Saw KISS, BOC with Rush as the opener when Rush was breaking in the States. BOC is a much different band but with every bit as interesting a catalog. Hope you check them out further.
Ah Sweet. Finally you reacted to BOC ❤❤❤. Thanks a lot. Hope you're having a good day too. My second favorite band after Rush. Buck Dharma is soooo underrated. More cow bell, ha ha ha. You better stay away from them because they mostly sing about super natural, Red 😱.
3:55, Way to go, beautiful Red..you just made up a new" Godzilla" dance--It's how he always walks in the movies! BOC plays this live in Tokyo on utube, and the fans are loving it! Song has been in 2-3 of the movies, too.
"There goes Tokyo" Brings back watching TV after school. Another song this reminds me of for its hilarity is, Monkey Bars by a little know group from Canada called Coney Hatch. Classic!

Another band that I am fanatical about! I love “Godzilla”!! Possibly the fathers of American heavy metal. They have influenced countless bands. This is another band screwed over by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Loved the reaction of a great hit rock track when I was a kid. I love how you are an honest listener and your comments hit home on the songs you review from what I checked so far ( mostly RUSH and this one). I also have a very cherished band experience from when I was a kid with Black Sabbath while it was Ozzy singing. I do not know how much you know about Sabbath, but the target album for my comment here is Sabotage. That is the most underrated Black Sabbath album from when it was Ozzy as a lead singer. The cool thing about this album is it follows one of the most popular Sabbath albums Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Sabotage was a true band album meaning they didn't go with what they were told by managers or anyone. They made that album with the intention of passing messages, of breaking silence, and bursting out of their management situation. The song The Writ was exactly that moment when Ozzy expresses his feelings towards management of his record label and speaking for the band and himself. But bottom line, all the songs of that album are great. If I wish you'd react to a single song, it would be The Thrill of it All as my first choice, and Symptom of the Universe as my Second Choice, and Hole in the Sky as my 3rd choice. But all the songs on that album is very polished, expressive and powerful.
This studio version has layered vocals - with lead guitarist Buck Dharma's voice being up front - but when they did it live - Eric Bloom sang lead. Everyone in the original band sang some lead vocals - the late, great Allen Lanier only on one studio track .. "True Confessions" from "Agents of Fortune" - both Bouchard brothers sang lead on various tracks - drummer Albert more often than his brother Joe on bass - this band was lead vocals by committee if ever there was one ..
To this day, even with CGI, all Godzilla Movies are bad except one, the one with Mattew Broadrick, which was about the best What. was worse than the rubberized Godzilla well Mothra lol 🤣🤣Now Red you know my warped sense of humor in Jurrasic Park 2 the sense where the T-Rex is loose in San Diego a bunch of oriental businessmen are running and it looks to be straight out of a Godzilla movie 🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖 Thanks for doing this Red ❤❤#godzilla #godzillasong #blueoystercult #classicrockreaction #redheadedneighbor #bestreactor #redsarmy #beautifulfuncountrygirl #31K #heartofgoldwithmetalinhersoul #bestbadjokes #Rushcrush #redheadparrothead #warningawarningaddict
The only band I've seen more times is Rush. (I've seen them at Radio City Music Hall in NYC, and the last time was in a small bar called The Asylum in Portland, Maine) Godzilla is cool, but my all-time favorite love song is Don't Fear the Reaper - and it's chilling every time I listen to it. You've gotta to do more from B.O.C.- Astronomy, Veteran of the Psychic Wars, Burning for You, Dominance and Submission, Last Days of May, and SO many more....
he says History shows again and again how Nature points out the folly of Man. It was Man's fault that Godzilla came to be, can't remember the specifics. Maybe was the pollution or Nuclear testing, something like that, radiation that mutated him into the horrible creature he was. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.
i don't know why someone would start your BOC journey with this and not "Don't Fear the Reaper", "Burnin' for You", or "Veteran of the Psychic Wars" or other of their hits...
Exactly. They have so many outstanding songs such as: Astronomy Monsters Black Blade Then Came The Last Days Of May The Vigil Take Me Away The Revenge of Vera Gemini Fire Of Unknown Origin Sole Survivor I love the night Joan Crawford
Godzilla is okay but not my favourite from that album. There is hardly to be found on this album, Spectres and the previous album, Agents Of Fortune a single bad song. I would highly recommend from Spectres, Goin' Through The Motions and Nosferatu.
Buck Dharma! Unsung guitarist!
When they performed this in concert, it included a drum solo, in which the drummer wore a Godzilla mask under a strobe light. Very cool! 🤘😎 🤟
“OH NO!! THERE GOES TOKYO!! GO GO GODZILLA!!”
As a 10 year old in the 70’s I thought this was the coolest song ever 🔥🤣
History shows again and again how nature points out the folly of men godzilla.
I've seen these guys maybe 25 times or so. They freakin' WAIL live. ON TOUR FOREVER!
Lots of people may see this as somewhat of a "comic-book" song based on the title and the lyrics, and there's certainly that aspect to it. But Buck Dharma's guitar playing is top tier here, he's just ripping it up from start to finish and the fills between the lyrics are brilliant.
BOC occupies a musical niche all their own. An interesting mix of hard rock, humor, menace, and an air of mystery.
Hey neighbor, happy Labor Day to you also. I am a lifelong Blue Öyster Cult fan. I have seen them dozens of times and they’re always awesome live. A couple more songs to check out are Cities On Flame and Burnin’ For You.
🦖🦖🦖 Got to see these guys with Rush!!! What a reaction day this has been!!!
Me too. Grace Under Pressure tour. Augusta Georgia, April 1986. Was this the show you saw them together? They never actually toured together, but they played together for 3 shows in 86 and once back in 78 in New Haven.

Same here but for me it was in 6th grade when I first heard this. Been Rockin' ever since!
lol, I had a next door neighbor named Mary, she was one year older than me. 🤔
@freefall8243 Oh that's a cool coinky-dinky! 😊
Another of my favorite bands from the 79s and 80s
In 1978 I got my first record player for Christmas. Along with it I got 3 albums to start my collection. Cheap Trick live at Budokan, The Cars first album and BOC Some Enchanted Evening (live album). Godzilla was one of the first songs I ever owned (and subsequently played ad nauseum).

I've always loved this song from them, lol.
Check out "Burning For You" and "Don't Fear The Reaper" (more cowbell!!).
I love BOC. The first song I encountered is Veteran of the Psychic Wars that I really vibed with.
love it! i have there albums in my collections!
Oh my God Blue oyster cult Don't fear the reaper
Godzilla was a favorite of mine growing up.....lol.....BOC .they were the first band I seen live .
A classic.
Hey RHN, B.O.C. is awesome. Even better live. They have a whole schwack load of tunes as well. Great band. Excellent reaction RHN. Check out more of them if you can. I'm sure you know Don't fear the reaper.

I have the original BOC album in my hands, they were awesome back in the day.
Cheerz !!!!
One of the bands I played in back in the day did this tune, we also did "Burning For You", witch was another cool Blue Oyster Cult song.
Same!!! ❤
Seen these guys four times and got to party with them twice great group of guys very humble and down to earth
Blue Oyster Cult was my first concert. In 1976. I was 15.
Rush-BOC, Randhurst Ice Arena 1975. Rush made it hard to want to listen to anyone else but BOC was certainly one I had space for. Their first half dozen albums were an absolute blast. I'm in the mood so now I have to bring up Agents of Fortune. Thx, Red.

🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎹🎶🔥
This song is just pure fun. Don't Fear the Reaper is probably a bit "better", but is pretty heavy, topic-wise.
One of the heaviest from the 70s
I remember them playing the crap out of the song over and over on the radio
Next, review their song 'Burning For You '
For a beautiful sounding Blue Oyster Cult song give a listen to "I love the night"
Here are some of my favorite BOC songs that are reaction worthy, hopefully others will agree.
Burnin for you
Astronomy
Veteran of the Psychic Wars
Then Came the Last Days of May
Don't Fear the Reaper

Check out "Burning For You". Also, please check out "Frankenstein" by Edgar Winter.

Dude, you should know by now that he was born with sunglasses on! 😂
@atpat480 That could very well be by this point, my guy.
Saw KISS, BOC with Rush as the opener when Rush was breaking in the States. BOC is a much different band but with every bit as interesting a catalog. Hope you check them out further.

You need to do "Don't Fear The Reaper" from B.O.C. also!
B.O.C. had a large fan base in Japan. They made a lot of trips there to tour. I'm sure it was partially written to please their fans. Imho
3:55, Way to go, beautiful Red..you just made up a new" Godzilla" dance--It's how he always walks in the movies! BOC plays this live in Tokyo on utube, and the fans are loving it! Song has been in 2-3 of the movies, too.

BOC rules. Next song to react by them must be Red head black ;) (Red and black)

Blue Öyster Cult's "Godzilla" was used in the 2019 film Godzilla: King of the Monsters:

When they do this song live it sounds like Godzilla is attacking
Under rated prog gods - go to the Vigil next! Shooting Shark or Monsters
🔥🔥🔥
Monsters and I love the night are 2 you should definitely react to!
Dont Fear The Reaper was their first and maybe their biggest hit....Burning for You 1981 was another hit . ,,,,and fitting for you,,,lol
When drugs were weak & good.
i don't know why someone would start your BOC journey with this and not "Don't Fear the Reaper", "Burnin' for You", or "Veteran of the Psychic Wars" or other of their hits...
Exactly. They have so many outstanding songs such as:
Astronomy
Monsters
Black Blade
Then Came The Last Days Of May
The Vigil
Take Me Away
The Revenge of Vera Gemini
Fire Of Unknown Origin
Sole Survivor
I love the night
Joan Crawford
I love redheads. Just sayin’.
Thank you.😊

Get the claws out girl....lol
Well I guess you dont like Dan Vasc anymore
have you sent her an email and made a request
Do you have a specific request. It would be helpful. I do seem to be stuck
