  • That's a wonderful toy to play with, the SUPRA key box safe lock that 'West Coast Picks' sent to me. It's safe type locks with three wheels and false gates. If the combination meets some requirements it can be decoded. In this video I explain the way this locks works, show the method to decode it and how to change the combination. Hope you have fun.

One of those locks was a attached in my house when I bought it and I fooled around with it a little bit but never got too involved with it because I never got the code and I could never get in it. I applied everything that you said in your video it took me slightly longer than you probably about 10 minutes, but it worked! I had no idea what the combination was I followed your instructions, and I got in! Thank you so much! I was even able to figure out how to change the combination on my own

    Dude, you're awesome. I wasn't able to decode the combination but the rest of your demonstration worked wonders for me. Make another video of the way I did it if you please, I'm not going to make one. Here is what I did to open mine:
    I shined a flashlight inside the lock from the back screw holes, since I saw how it's made from your video, I used a strong but tiny awl and opened the two latches on top of the black backing, you may need two. Then I opened the top. I moved the key that was inside along with the screw heads I cut off to the bottom of the box. I kept the black cover inside the lock open as I shook the inside parts loose while turning the dial and they eventually all fell inside freeing the lock so I could open it. Remember to shake the parts loose while keeping the front of the lock facing up so the parts falls inside the cavity. Now, thanks to your video, there was no surprises or guess work as how to put it back together. I didn't find the combination but I made my own... Mine is a series S5, the only difference from yours is the black cover inside doesn't come off, it is inged at the bottom. It would have been much easier if mine was made like yours because the black lid could just come off. Thanks a lot for a real nice thorough video.

      Thank you for sharing your alternate technique.
      Due to the specific unknown combination that had been set previously, I was able to discover only the third letter of the combo. Unfortunately, the technique shared in the video was not allowing me to discover the first and second letter of the combo.
      Your alternate solution worked perfectly and I was able to get the box open with two small screwdrivers in about 5 minutes.
      Kudos to you!

    Awesome video! Do you have a recommendation for a similar lock that is better than this one. I’m having a hard time finding one that isn’t easy to break into. The space inside doesn’t need to be large but I’d prefer as secure as physically possible. I love the strong design of this one, but I don’t even know much about picking locks and I noticed the much too large gate when I got mine in.
    Edit. Sorry I posted that before the last minute was over. I see I just need to make a better combination that harder to decrypt.

    I was able to open mine after viewing this video! (And fooling around with it for a few hours). The key point for me was that when you have found the first letter, and you press on the opener, the bottom of the dial pops out a little bit, as mentioned in the video. That's because the opener is pressing against the wheels for the 2nd and 3rd letters, which are farther away from the dial, and not against the wheel for the 1st letter.
    Thanks, potti314!

    I bought this house with this same lockbox. The previous owner could not remember the code. It is been 4 years now and I am really tired of looking at it and want to install a smart home lockbox.
    I could not get decode it following this video. Too much outside noise and every catch feels the same. I found the first gate, but I cannot find the second and obviously third.
    I just want to destroy it. I should be able to hammer my small crowbar into it to break the latch.

    Since the last letter of the code is determined easily and the gates span two letters, that leaves 169 possible combinations that could be sequential tested. That could be a solution for those times the false gates do not line up.

    • @Potti314
      @Potti314  4 роки тому

      True, the brute force method is always an option. But I find it hard to do it right every time and not mess up with one number.

  • @ChrisAhrensLHG
    @ChrisAhrensLHG 7 років тому

    great job. thanks for the explanation. I was surprised the true gate was so large I would've thought it would be just slightly larger than the bar. is it possible to line the false gates were none of the three line up together?

    • @Potti314
      @Potti314  7 років тому +1

      Thank you. Yes, the gates are really large - at least two full letters. There are 26 letters and 12 gates - so roughly for every second letter the false gates align. Due to tolerances I would say that always two gates align when having 3 wheels. But I cannot test it as my son has the box taken along to a little trip today.

    • @user-vc7gh6qb2r
      @user-vc7gh6qb2r 5 років тому

      Yes it is possible to line it so that the false gates do not align. In fact I just check my combination and the false gate line up. And it is not a surprise that the false gates line up since my luck is dictated by Murphy's Laws. So a change it so that it did not line up.
      So I just want to thanks Potti314/Potti-π for this video, as I would never know to make sure that the false gates do not line up without watching Potti-π video.

  • @codeforcontra

    I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question. Would it be advantageous to take a file to some of the false gates, to "randomize" the feedback of the play? Would that damage the integrity of the lock in general or simply not effect the play enough increase the difficulty?

    • @Potti314

Someday you might mount this outside the home with a key in it in case your son comes home and no one is there to let him in. When it is mounted you don't know if anything is in it and even if there is a key you need to figure out which lock it opens. Maybe you put a combination on paper in it to another lock.
