Here’s some alternative names for the mons on this list: Cresselia - sweet dreams Arcanine - good doggo Thundurus - I skip leg day Tapu Fini - Primarina’s Left cousin Landorus-T - my presence is intimidating Rillaboom - Rich Piana but green Urshifu Rapid Strike - Floyd Mayweather as a Pokémon Amoonguss - I cause naps Flutter Mane - Primal Mismagius Incineroar - Tony the Tiger
@@oLivSamaI forgot to add those. Here they are: Urshifu Single Strike - Muhammad Ali as a Pokémon Raging Bolt - giraffe sabertooth Mega Kangeskhan - I use my children in street fights Xerneas - Geomancy + GG Primal Groudon - Camerupt but better Tapu Koko - I lost to a Pikachu Iron Hands - Sumo Mecha
Sometimes I think about the fact that at any point some random, mid-tier Gen 4 Pokémon could suddenly have the perfect traits to be meta defining 2029 World Championships and Drapion has a 55% usage rate and no one knows how to counter because it got X move in Gen 10 and it pairs perfectly with Y ability + Poison/Dark has suddenly become the best type combo in the game
unironically true and I hate how true this is, like I just went over in another comment Abomasnow scored in the top 25 best performing mons across the generation 5 era of VGC, ranking 23rd among all pokemon (and this metric should bias AGAINST Abomasnow as it was illegal in VGC 2011); or how Bronzong will either be dogshit or like the best trick room setter possible and it has 0 in between on either end of the spectrum at any given moment
poison/dark is actually a fantastic typing already, only 1 weakness and a ton of resistances + an immunity, the problem is that they only give it to shitmons like alolan muk and drapion
excadrill still was insane but it probably wasn't top 5 in its best generation even, though I'll admit not super familiar with gen 5 VGC. thinking back on stuff i have seen pop up though Amoonguss, Thundurus-I, Landorus-T, Latios, Garchomp, Heatran, Cresselia, Tyranitar all feel a bit more noteworthy albeit Excadrill still was really good; weather I think more was a circumstance of other not just Excadrill factors since there was a lot of Tyranitar v Politoed weather wars and even some niche Abomasnow play asw to combat that because those two mons were just so good edit: across all of BW (which 2011 specifically SHOULD bias Excadrill because no Lando-T + no out of BW mons like Garchomp were legal) Excadrill scored 24th across points during the 2011-2013 seasons of VGC! honestly i genuinely thought it'd at least be top 20 so I'm pretty surprised too if I'm being honest, seeing Breloom and Abomasnow rank above it blows my mind limitlessvgc.com/pokemon/?time=all&type=all®ion=all&format=vgc11,vgc12,vgc13
LOL honestly that'd be really funny ngl, I'd have to think of a way to go about it tho like maybe buffing them as if I'm making them restricted picks or smth, or honestly could just do vids similar to incineroars ngl
Honestly, Incin will always be back. Every time people say it’s at a low, or it looks tough, he gets back up. But realistically, the reason Incin is prob struggling is due to how many indirect nerfs it’s received while power creep and offense continues to increase HEAVILY. Still, for being a regular ass Pokémon who’s not a legendary with an absurd stat boosting ability or some crazy new move, it’s a testament to how good a Pokémon can be without all the power creep.
oh by no means will it go like bad just i think it is at risk of being THE top pokemon was more the point i wanted to make, fwiw its performances since this vid was written made me cringe so badly at how horribly it aged but ofc it was gonna, but its still falling off progressively each regulation compared to the last. even with its downtilt in general regulation F was still better for it than reg G was, and then that was better than reg H has been. its still going to never die off its like Amoonguss, just Amoonguss is also more splashable right now on at least easier to use compositions, whereas Incineroar while still strong is more narrowed onto a couple comps that are just performing better as the top like couple of results. 1 or 2 in a top 8 tho vs its usual handful in top 8 is a stark drop off tho!
great video it’s really hard to do a ranking like this considering how good pokemon are changes depending on formats and not even being legal in formats honestly the only things i’d change about the list is putting urshifu up to 3rd or even second since it’s just a top pick in even restricted formats, maybe flutter a bit lower for the opposite of this reason, id put cress at 8 and canine off the list for raging bolt but yeah great video :)
Don't underestimate koko. E-terrrain being a low effort check to psy-spam and sleep matters a lot. Koko would definitely see play in gen 9 if it's legal.
it'd still see a lot of play but it would be closer to like the 5-10% usage mark compared to Rillaboom, Flutter Mane, or even like Farigiraf levels of usage that are still decent but not all encompassing. Koko has to compete with Flutter Mane as a fast offensive fairy, and it's really weak damage wise for this generation even with tera. Still good but considering it was legitimately an awful choice in generation 8, and it would by no means be a top 20 mon in generation 9 if it was legal (though still a very respectable offensive mon), I can't rank it in the lifetime top 10 off one generation when we know it's fallen off heavily since (same reason Zacian avoids the best restricted mon mention since we've had the proven track record post nerf Zacian cannot hold up even close to pre nerf)
@@oLivSama I would see it more as a support with damage. It has nature's madness, electroweb and screens so one of sash, AV or light clay can definite work. Koko sucks in gen8 because everything it wants to do does nothing to max quake spammers.
Love your videos so take this a a critique and you’re not the only vgc/poker-tuber I see do this but why is it that you will see that mega Kangaskhan what is the best/most used mega and then talk about primal Groudon like it’s not a mega? Like yes I get it. They are not mega evolutions by name but let’s be honest primal reversion is just a fancy term for mega evolution because it goes better with the lore in the story.
The mega portion was more to illustrate standard megas like Kang and mence and which non restricted mega was best, which kang had the best results for worlds and non worlds, primal groudon was the best performing restricted mon tho for worlds alone so that's why I covered it! I'd usually lump primals and megas this was more just restricted mon vs non restricted mon fwiw
Because you can only use 1 Mega Evolution per battle, but Primal Reversion didn't count towards that limit. That's why people ran Mega Rayquaza and Primal Groudon at the same time. It's like the opposite of Mega Rayquaza. Mega Rayquaza counts as a Mega, but doesn't have to hold a Mega Stone. While Primal Groudon and Kyogre have to hold their respective Orbs, but they don't count as Megas. The Primals don't have the Mega opportunity cost, but they have the Restricted opportunity cost. I'm guessing that's why they're counted as Restricted rather than Megas. Thematically, they're Megas, but in terms of game mechanics, they're something else.
Yea that definitely aged poorly but fwiw i still think we have a very real chance of incineroar being overtaken this gen depending on amoonguss and Flutter Manes performances as time goes on

I remember Excadrill being so broken that Game Freak nerfed weather
