@@murcielago4471 I understand why, thanks. In singles, having an insanely strong STAB U-turn with a speed stat like that is just great - basically a pseudo scarfer/revenge killer that can swap out and keep momentum on your side, without the drawback of bring unable to switch moves. Of course in a doubles meta where you only have 4 team members and (sometimes) access to box legendary Pokemon, a strong U turn just isn’t gonna cut it if that’s your niche. For VGC fans that are curious to know if any of these megas had any success in Singles formats: - Mega Alakazam, Mega Pidgeot and Mega Beedrill were good and saw notable competetive play in smogon formats. - Mega Altaria was amazing in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire smogon singles and was one of the best pokemon in the format.
@@Tauschung Mega Blastoise is a certified Ubers mon in Natdex formats due to having access to its Mega form and Shell Smash at the same time. Mega Alakazam is generally banned from draft league formats due to having too many shenanigans.
Pidgeot is a great example of how well some megas could work if they could actually hold a item. If some species could mega evolve simply by having the stone in your bag, like in GO, that could fix most of this list.
@@Mobtrapper-hq8is Frankly, looking at primal Groudon and Kyogre, at that point someone in GF said "Fuck balance, let's see how broken we can make one of the already strongest dragons in the franchise".

At 13:05, Wolfey says that he "was always trying to skill swap [no guard] to put it on another pokemon and then try and use one-hit KO moves like sheer cold and fissure". This is misleading, as he uses the past tense, despite the fact that he is actively streaming an attempt to skill swap no guard onto lapras to use sheer cold.
Yes! What a coincidence that this video released on the same day Wolfy is streaming a tournament using the skill-swap no-guard sheer-cold combo team :P
shoutouts to beedrill's case, where back in gen 6 megaevolving didnt applied the new speed value on the same turn, so it couldn't even get value of it's huge speed increase until the next turn(supposing it could survive until the next turn)
I do agree with most of these points, but Mega Beedrill absolutely does NOT have terrible coverage. Drill Run and Knock Off hit all three types that resist Bug and Poison. The issue here is 4 moveslot syndrome. You want X-Scissor, U-Turn, Poison Jab, Drill Run, Knock Off, Protect, Fell Stinger and Swords Dance all to varying degrees. Mega Beedrill just can't do everything all at once.
yeah no as someone who RELIGIOUSLY ran mega bee in oras saying its coverage is bad is downright ridiculous. now fitting all you want in one set however....

@@plumali_youtube163 I wouldn't say Incineroar sucks so much as it's entirely outclassed. Landorus-T is still the best Intimidate user in Singles while Incineroar fell off. It's the inverse of what happened in Doubles where Lando fell off and Incineroar became #1.
correction, Mega Incineroar which gets 50 points in speed, 25 points in both defenses, and has simultaneously Intimitdate, Special Intimidate, Prankster, and Regenerator.
Mega Incineroar with intimidate, so you can get intimidate twice and has points added to it's defenses and speed. Or Mega Incineroar with Prankster Parting shot. And has 50 points in each defenses Or Mega Incineroar with Good as Gold.

@dephony5648 it's not that hard. Bee is a stone cold killer. You just have to actually put a thought or two into how you're playing, it's just not an auto win
@@RyanGraham-k2n What thoughts do you use when It comes to a very, VERY subpar mon that also wastes your mega slot? It dies to a sneeze and has average for the gen stats, meaning you won't be one shotting most mon while they will one shot you. As well as not great typing for doubles, it's hard to bring it safely into battle or keep it alive as a lead. If you legit won a high ELO doubles OU game on showdown with it I want to see it, like put it on UA-cam.
Okay, but can we agree that that worst Mega Evolution is still one of the coolest looking? I love the design and the fact that it got a Mega Evolution in the first place.
Wolfey titled the video wrong. He ranked Mega POKÉMON, not Mega EVOLUTIONS. Mega Beedrill is easily the best Mega Evolution, considering how much it improves the base Pokémon. Beedrill has been beyond useless competitively ever since Gen I and Mega Beedrill actually had a niche, however small. I suppose you could make the argument that Mega Mawile is the best Mega Evolution, but Gen VI Mawile has the best typing AND one of the best abilities in the game already, so the starting point, while low, was nowhere near the bottom of the barrel that is Beedrill. And really? You want to fix Beedrill so badly that you scrape stat points from its Special Attack, but Mega Mawile can just have an Ability that effectively more than doubles its base Attack?? The hell, Game Freak??
Just wanted to say that I actually really appreciate you explicitly not saying the pokemon that it was. It comes off as super thoughtful (especially because I haven't finished the video yet lol)
it's the worst VGC wise but in a singles perspective it's pretty good! UU iirc and it was just a massive pivoting revenge-killing threat, similar to the hold that Lokix currently has in Gen 9 UU. Its main flaw was having competition with Mega Aerodactyl as the physical and fast glass cannon, but Adaptability U-turn is also kinda that worth it.
Not to rant at Wolfey but I just wanna say that Aggron got Body Press as of later generations. So if it were to come back it would be able to use the ridiculously high def stat. Justice for Aggron! Thanks for attending my TedTalk
@@Mobtrapper-hq8is I think that because Zamazenta gets a +1 boost, STAB Body Press and is much faster and tankier overall (HP and Sp. Def) he's safe as the king Body Presser.

I wish Mega Altaria was retconned to just be a regular evolution. It's a shame that it has a really cool typing that we have never seen since and the stats are 590 still putting it below pseudo-legends and it has some good moves.
100% this, infact i think alot of the 2 stage mons that got megas should be made regular evos. Prime case Banette, the counterpart to Dusclops who got Dusknoir so Mega Banette should be an evo with same bst of Dusknoir. Also Houndoom, Medicham, Camerupt, Sharpedo, Manetric, Abomosnow, Lopunny and few others
@@xierotron Some pokemon would be really op if megas were the base evolution, Mega Mawile with life orb and if you are able to set up trick room would be Thanos
@@paradoxzee6834 yes please read fully what I said, my example was mega Banette should be an evo with the same BST as Dusknoir not 100+ so obviously you would balance them out
Honestly the mega would have to be insane for it to be good. Intimidate is such a useful ability, and the megas almost always have a different ability than base forme
Mega Blastoise may be a real, genuine threat when Megas come back because under no circumstances should a Pokémon with *those* stats be 50 feet near a move like Shell Smash, which it got in Gen 8.
A major change to Mega Absol that can HOPEFULLY make it better is to change its stat distribution and change its typing. One fan variant of the mega is that it was turned into a Dark/Fairy type given that it learns Play Rough
Give it Regenerator back as an ability, buff its special attack to 120-125 and both of its defenses up to 200 points each, be slightly faster with a speed stat of between 90 and 100, give it OP Fairy-Type moves like Moonblast, and unpopular opinion, but I think both normal and Mega Audino should have been pure Fairy-Types. If a Pokemon with access to Mega Evolution can actually terastalised at the same time, if both mechanics exist in the same game anyways, imagine how decent would a Fairy-Type Tera Mega Audino be (only if it was in Scarlet and Violet). I love the design, it's in fact, one of my favourite Mega Pokemon design wise, it's such a shame that this cute magical girl Audino had it's stats messed up and poor thing can't do much damage. Only if they're buffed in the future, I would have used it a lot in battle in a normal playthrough. What sucks even more is (and honestly unfair in my opinion) the fact Audino is the only one from Unova to get a Mega Evolution, Maractus never got one, Zebstrika never got one, Leavanny never got one, Victini never got one and Mienshao never got one to name a few, and it's a shame to because while I love Mega Audino personally and I think Audino needed one, the others needed one too.
@@somethingelse8498 The list is based off VGC. In challenge runs like radical red and say Run and Bun where mega beedrill is absolutely cracked, the same cannot be said when it comes to 4v4 doubles.
Pidgeot could have been a special sweeper with a very good special attack, but the moveset is what let it down. It doesn't even get focus blast, and not a single special attack boosting move, besides work up. But that's whey too unreliable, could've been better
@LucasLillie Yes, while I would have done more to improve Pidgeot moveset wise, I think making Base Pidgeot have at least 90 base special attack would be good, while No guard is a decent ability for Mega Pidgeot, its moveset is what's holding it back from being at least an OU Pokemon. The fact Pidgeot does not get much moves to make up for its above average special attack (same as Base Alakazam). Really makes it a generic Mega. I think if it got nasty plot, focus blast, a better moveset, it would've been better
@@silver_was_found Yeah, and also, Calm Mind wouldn't be a bad pick but if you want a full on offensive Flying type special attacker, you might as well add nasty plot to the moveset as well. Or give it a special attacking counterpart of "Fell Stinger". But it'd be broken in Singles if that were to ever happen lolz
@LucasLillie even though it won't be completely broken due to more power creep, it could at least get some buffs to its moveset to make it at least viable, as well as some stat buffs to make it actually good. But not broken
I literally had no idea Mega Absol wasn't a dual dark/fairy type. For my entire play time I always assumed it had the fairy type because LOOK AT IT?????

Audino is my favorite Pokémon. Every day I am heartbroken at how dirty they did Mega Audino. I'm begging on my knee's for Gamefreak to give it a better ability in Legends Z-A.
I'm guessing GameFreak was probably afraid of making Mega Garchomp _too_ strong, hence why its so terrible... They've shown that they are well aware of the competitive side of things, and Garchomp has been really good for a long time (at least at the time Megas were introduced) so they probably wanted to keep it somewhat "balanced," but ended up just making it worse.
As a Beedril fan, I saw this comming the second I saw the name of the video, and you are absolutely right... Beedril is one of those Pokemon that should get a 4th evolution to give them some chance of being usable.
@captainmega6310 True. My point is a pokemon doesn't have to look like a fairy to be fairy type. Mega Absol's angelic wings and the fact that it's actually a good-willed pokemon that tries to warn people. Those reasons could justify the fairy typing imo.
I don't know WHAT GameFreak was thinking giving audino a mega. There are so many gen 5 pokemon that deserved a mega, like excadrill, gigalith, haxorus, darmanitan, hydreigon, seismitoad and more. Out of all those mons, they gave audino a mega?! Here's hoping for more gen 5 megas in Legends ZA🤞.
Megas seemed to be partially based on marketing, and partially who they made art for It’s why Mewtwo got a mega (fan service) and the Gen 3 legends got primal/ mega forms (story and marketing) Then there is Flygon, who didn’t get a mega because the team couldn’t decide on art they liked Mega Audino likely exists because they DID agree on art they liked
I'm a fan of mixed sweeper Mega Altaria, it has really good coverage. Return, EQ, Fire Blast, Roost/Cotton Guard/DDance. But I think I just wanted it to work because the pokemon looks so cool...
Your Absol to Arceus story reminded me of spending an entire day catching all shapes of Unown in gen 2 because I thought you got some cool reward for it. Turns out all you get is the ability to print in the Unown alphabet with the Gameboy Printer, which I never owned.
i do hope that even when incineroar stops being meta like 20 years from now that wolfe still throws up incineroar graphics in videos for people to comment about 2 minutes after a video releases.
frankly I don't think incin will ever stop being meta. it's a dark type neutral against fairies with intimidate, fake out, and multiple switching moves. you would need absurd levels of power creep that would probably necessitate significantly raising the BST floor before incin can become relatively frail enough for those qualities not to be extremely useful.
@@Sizzyli doubted that they love trolling wolfey about incineroar i mean they buff it this generation wolfey makes the competitive pokemon so relevant so i doubted that they will nerf it next gen
Cosmog and cosmoem being restricted has ALWAYS been a running joke in the meta, like that they're so terrible that regulations can't allow them in And about Mewtwo, that's *HEAVILY* ironic.
Well, we can also talk about base Necrozma and base Calyrex if we really want. We can also remember that Cosmog and Cosmoem's status as restricted Mons is like honorary, because they're the only restricted prevos to this day. Or, hear me out, we can do both
Mega evolution is the coolest but worst competitive feature... A team can only have one so you're naturally gonna go for the best and all the other ones will never be touched and become a waste of time. Really sad that such a cool feature is so badly designed.
Which was probably why the next battle mechanics introdued (Z-moves, Dynamax, Terastallization) are all general super moves that can be used by any and all Pokemon. (Aside from the hero wolves, who can't Dynamax, but they have a signature attack related to the mechanic.)
Whats really funny about this is that Pokémon like M-Beedrill or M-Pidgeot were actually fairly decent in singles, which I find really cool to play both formats because they are incredibly different
The problem is that then competitive players are just... not going to use any of the new guys, which isn't exactly a very good look from a marketing standpoint, unless you go Maximum Dexit and just lock away everything that came before Black/White style (and god knows what the reaction to _that_ would be). I mean, remember when gen 7 tried to do something similar and people just complained about how all the new mons were too slow to be usable?
@@ExeloMinishthey can make pokemons slow and good tho. Like, the difference between 120 speed and 20 speed are 100 points that can distributed between attack and bulk. The bugvest problem is that the insist on a 60-80 level of speed wich is a big waste of BST.
The absol evolving into arceus thing resonates with me 😂 my brother was for some reason convinced that Spinda would evolve into Zangoose and that that was the only way to get one
I think your discussion about how many megas would be good if they were a pokemon's new base form is what game freak learned from gen 6. Mega ampharos had to die so fluttermane could live...and kill everything else
It’s not the mega that gets me mad, but the terrible hidden ability. Charizard gets a huge power buff in the sun. Venasaur doubles speed, and Blastoise…heals an insignificant amount of HP in the rain. How about increase D/SpD in the rain? That would play to his strengths while also keeping with the themes of the other trio. What a waste
I mean now Blastoise has shell smash so mega Blastoise could maybe get to do something?? But idk that defense drop may be an issue since it can't run white herb
I think this is a fair list from a competitive doubles standpoint, but I would love to see a redemption video on maybe some of the formats these megas excel in. For example, mega ampharos is amazing in a casual run. Electric dragon with possible rock and bug coverage with signal beam and power gem were really helpful. As others have mentioned, mega beedrill found it’s niche in singles. Still, really enjoyed this video. Hope you have a good day!
Valid placement for VGC, though it should be prefaced that mega beedrill is genuinely threatening in singles, and it gets great coverage in drill run, a ground type move that hits fire, rock, and steel type that it otherwise couldn't (although from my experience it still loses out to mega gengar due to its lower speed and being so frail). If you remove sucker punch users, it can very quickly sweep especially after fell stinger or swords dance.
@LucasLillie yeah you can't really argue it's placement when a single stray from rock tomb will likely 0KO... but in singles he's viable while not at all meta
@@KeelHeel"although from my experience it still loses out to Mega Gengar due to its lower Speed and being so frail" Do you mean Mega Beedrill is still worse than Mega Gengar in singles? If so, you're absolutely right, but that has more to do with Mega Gengar's insanely broken ability, as Mega Beedrill is actually faster than Mega Gengar; it's Mega Alakazam, and I think Mega Aerodactyl, that are faster by like 5 points.
It's a general rule that fast strong glasscanon (especially if they can pivot) are strong in single where you only have one mon to worry about that has to take the hit or let someone else do, compared to doubles where you can play around it with protect. It's a lot harder to justify constantly switching around after getting like one hit in double, with 4 mons and 2 targeting you.
@@KeelHeelif it was ORAS then it may also have been that who moves first in the turn was decided before mega evolution so on the turn they mega evolve Gengar would have been faster.
Wait, as far as I know BASE Alakazam got +10 Sp. D. boost in Gen 7, so both gens give it +100 BST. I may be wrong though, just saying this info should be double checked
@ldmtag just double checked it, alakazam is consistently base 500 but Gen 6 mega zam is base 590 while Gen 7 base mega zam is base 600, atleast according to serebii
GameFreak will probably make Mega Incineroar in the Legends game to play as an Offensive threat instead of Support allowing two different playstyles in a pokemon. They will probably be happy to see their Fav cat at his former prime usage rates.
A big reason is because the power of beedril mega is the pivot with U-Turn and high attack, but in vgc that strategy is not good, not only because singles have longer battles, but vgc is "attack fastly with maximum power and win". But is better in vgc than mega banette
@@Paulo-Gabriédenpivot strats work well in vgc, you just also have to do something on entry/ exit. Incin has intimidate Rillaboom has grassy terrain Even Miraidon ran volt switch because it hits hard and can reset its own terrain “Just” strong u turn isn’t enough.

yeah no as someone who RELIGIOUSLY ran mega bee in oras saying its coverage is bad is downright ridiculous.

I really hope they lower the power ceiling with new gens, the fact that a speed stat of 100-115 is middling nowadays is crazy
The problem is that then competitive players are just... not going to use any of the new guys, which isn't exactly a very good look from a marketing standpoint, unless you go Maximum Dexit and just lock away everything that came before Black/White style (and god knows what the reaction to _that_ would be).
I mean, remember when gen 7 tried to do something similar and people just complained about how all the new mons were too slow to be usable?
by this logic a speed nerf to urshifu wouldn't change a thing since it's already slow...obviously not, 97 -> 80 speed would hurt urshifu so much
They should just compress a lot of stats across the board

@notnath14 hmm, it's been a while, it's highly possible I didn't know about EVs in ORAS... but don't tell anyone that, that's confidential between us.

That Mega Blastoise as the thumbnail made me anxious that he’s on the list
I hear you brother, I love blastoise if thay give him steel type it was wasted potential
Ya got baited.
@@naioof90iNah I doubt. Steel type Blastoise will just get more weaknesses.
@@randyjr.arsenio5624 It would gain a ton more resistances at the cost of 2 more weaknesses in Fighting and Ground, plus Fire becoming a neutral hit. Resistances to Normal, Water, Flying, Rock, Bug, Psychic, Dragon & Fairy, plus super-resists Ice and Steel and turns Grass into a neutral hit. Plus would gain STAB Flash Cannon. So it really comes down to if you think the additional 2 weaknesses is worth the numerous amount of resistances it gains.
i thought mega garchomp was gonna be #1
Mega garchomp is very disappointing, but not that bad comparatively to other, at the end of the day even if you forget base garchomp things it has so much stats and a good enough movepool that it could never be the worst compared to others starting from a much worse place Tbf.
Crazy seeing you here
whoa, it's harp girl
Oh my god this editing is absolutely EXHAUSTING, please just stick to one song for more than 15 seconds at a time, and you don't need a graphic for every third word he says
Wolfey mentioning new megas coming to the next Legends games is basically willing Mega Kalosian Incineroar into existence.
13:10 ah yes, the move "Sheer cold", the one that has 30 base power and doesnt have accuracy so it never misses, I remember that one!
Good catch =P
Another perfect video thank you again for all the work you do on your channel! I forgot who you were but you mentioning the pronunciation of Hydreigon last video gave me flashbacks❤❤😂😂 im sorry if I was cringey with some of my comments I l was sick so I wasn’t working and went a little nutty 😂😂😂 hopefully I’ll be able to make it to at least one regionals this year. I am so mad at myself for forgetting who you were, I’m so proud of you and I love your content. I’ll see you at a tournament one day ❤❤❤ I hope you have a good weekend and and if you’re going to the regionals this weekend good luck!!! 🍀 🎉❤❤❤❤
18:57 I remember Mandjtv play through of X and Y but only using dark types and he had a Mega Absol but every time he Mega Evolved the Absol it gets One hit KO like every time so I am not surprised of this Mega Evolution being in this list
@LucasLillieIcicle Crash?????
@@JoshLuigi Does that count as a disaster...?
@@Estra_Estra It’s not an ice type though. How does it using Icicle Crash work 💀💀💀
@@JoshLuigi It chooses to like like, hang around where icicles would fall or something. Kinda like Future Sight. It uses your attacking stat for... reasons.
@@Estra_Estra Name a pokemon that learns icicle spear that isn’t ice (minus mew/smeargle/arceus)
Well, beedrill at least is good in singles XD, audino can't even say that
I love seeing the difference between nuzlockes and competitive. In Run and Bun, the hardest romhack right now, Mega beedrill is easily a top 10 mon with blazing fast and strong leech life, poison jab, and especially u-turn, combined with some unique tech with dynamic speed and a great typing for pivoting in.
Im not sure why they didn't revamp Mega Evolution to be
"Pokémon with stats below 500 get buffed to 650" or something.
Sure that means some Pokémon get 145 stat points but like, that's just a little stronger than a Pseudo.
That way a bunch of bad Pokémon, get noticeable improvements. They gain so many stat points that it's hard *not* to be good.
They didn't care enough lol
yea, or also just let some mons mega evolve while still being able to use an item. Like how it works in GO, where all you need is the mega stone in your bag. And just say their species naturally has more resonance with Mega energy or whatever.
@@Mobtrapper-hq8is you have to be really careful with that though because if you aren't, you just end up with more mega rayquazas
@@flavorsofpie6361 yea, that’s why it should only be given to the mons that actually need it to keep up.
