The funny thing about a world champ discussing competitive pokemon history is that sometimes it sounds like "And then the trojan horse was accepted as a gift and wheeled into the village. I was one of the guys in there it was crazy"
My favorite thing about Primal Groudon was that it actually hard countered Primal Kyogre on the lead. If your opponent had a Primal Groudon, you could never lead your Primal Kyogre, because their Groudon was probably slower than your Kyogre. In that case, your Kyogre would revert first, and then their Groudon would overwrite your Primordial Sea and your Kyogre no longer threatens it.

Incineroar uses the Hidden Ability gimmick from Gen 5 for Intimidate. It might be my most hated gimmick ever because it was almost impossible to get ahold of the Pokemon with the Hidden Ability I wanted back before Gen 8. It was just taunting me with what I could never have.

It's power, bulk and utility with stealth rock (and now spikes in natdex), as well as primal Kyogre not faring as well in singles makes it very hard to deal with both defensively and offensively

I would go with Groudon, though I completely understand your call. To me, the only reason that Groudon wasn't the same level of spamability as Incineroar is that when it was viable a SIGNIFICANT portion of your planning was dedicated to specifically it. If you only have an ok incineroar check, you still have a chance. With Groudon, you either had a plan for it or lost. So it didn't win one tournament, but it's telling that the sheer effort of beating it is what proved your World Champion Difference.
Definitely agree, although my top reasoning for deciding between the three is the elephant in the room not mentioned. It’s the only 1 of the three that doesn’t rely on a gimmick meaning it’s the only one that will be in future games.
Poketubers always have the best fire type puns, my favorite is shofu "if you want some fire I'll show where the mag be" referencing Magby and a magnum firearm commonly shortened to mag. (Ex. .357mag)
And Arcanine-Hisui was World Champion in Seniors too, a much more successful journey than Chi-yu and Ogerpon (Although this one is barely a month old, lol).
@@eelishanninen5153 Yeah but it's winning everything. While it has 4 weaknesses, it also has 7 resistances and grass or fairy tera cover it's weaknesses very well. It's arcanine thats a bit tankier, has better stab, and does more damage. It has intimidate and it has a very strong attacking movepool with flare blitz, rock slide, close combat, wild charge, head smash, crunch, extreme speed, psychic fangs, etc. IIRC it's the best placing fire type in the current season, even above fire ogrepon.
In my opinion, Primal Groudon is the best. It placed 2nd through 8th at 2016 with the exception of 6th, and the team that managed to stop it had both Rayquaza AND Kyogre. Plus, the amount of Pokémon that can reasonably and viably run a mixed set is VERY few - pretty much just Groudon. The tools needed to deal with it alone is a good show for how powerful it really was.
With this retrospective here, I am kinda thinking what a format would look with everything legal: -Mega -G-Max -Z Moves -Terra -All Versions of all abilities and moves -etc. Just everything legal, what would that format look like and what would be the best team? I am guessing G-Max Primal Groudon would suddenly be the new best fire type, having also access to the Terra Type swap at any time.
you fail to see that its going to be inceneroar. mega inceneroar combined with gmax combined with his signature z move fire that burns my enthusiasm + the new tera type incineroar gives him the unique ability to delete the oppenents existence. Not in game, irl
for me another menace was blaziken when he got speed boost if left unchecked it could literally sweep your team 22:06 forgot the most powerful counter the duck with cloud nine
Man I watched like 4 of your videos today… I’ve never seen so many unskippable ads in my life man… that makes the viewing experience super awesome dude!!!
The fact that we will never see GMAx charizard and primal groundon but inceneroar will always come back once in a while and still be one of the best support option is hella scary
This was such a fun video! I agree with what you picked as the best fire type, but my personal favorite is Hisuian Typhlosion. She's just so cute :) Also, shout out to the editor/s! The editing was so funny and engaging and really added a lot to an already great video.
I love Incineroar - its design and competitive build are top notch.😄 Especially with Tera, it can remove its weaknesses to get a better type if needed. But its greatest moveset with Fake Out and Parting Shot can be bypassed with Covert Cloak and Clear Amulet respectively. So i curious how it will fair in Gen 9. What is your take on this? 🤔
those items won't make any difference to Incineroar; the meta is already full of Fake Out (Iron Hands, Rillaboom) and Intimidate (Landorus, H-Arcanine) and yet those two items are rarely ever seen Cloak has only been used on Tornadus which Incineroar can just pivot out of for free and Clear Amulet is a meme; offensive Pokemon would far rather run offensive items that boost their power
@@IncineRand Sure but Ogerpon made players run Tera Dragon. Intimidate made players run Clear amulet and Lash out when there is Defiant and Guard Dog. I am basically saying anything is possible, so things can be said with Incineroar around the corner
the editing of this video is stellar, and i love how you can tell the editor had the most fun in the incineroar section with all the little jokes and sound effects
Before hearing his final opinion: it's gotta be Incineroar. He's the only one that doesn't just warp the format. I feel like he added more to how those seasons were played.
Infernape needs more love. certainly not alongside the very best but back when i played competitively somewhere between 2013 and 2017 i ended some lives in a very spectacular way xD
Yeah Heat Crash is pretty cool but it isn't that good for Pdon i think. Pdon is very heavy but so are most legendaries it faces in Ubers, so Heat Crash will rarely reach it's maximum 120 BP. For similar reasons, Low Kick is basicaly Close Combat but better in Ubers since it will consistently have 120 BP without the defense drops.
@@Luragon9876 It all depends on what the intended targets of Heat Crash are at the end of the day. Precipice Blades covers most of those heavier legendaries pretty well, with only Celesteela and maybe Yveltal using Roost mindgames taking all of PBlades, Heat Crash, and, say, Stone Edge for coverage particularly well. Meanwhile, Landorus, Gliscor, and of course Skarmory, Corviknight, and Ferrothorn all get more or less annihilated by 999.7 kg Heat Crash.
Incinaroar's natural resistance to Prankster has led to many team rebuild, and it's bulk is often shocking. But I'm very curious if it will continue this streak in gen 9. I have a feeling clear amulet will get very, very popular
Intimidate is already dominating thanks to ol' reliable Landorus and newcomer Hisuian Arcanine, yet Clear Amulet is virtually nowhere to be seen. Why? Because Clear Amulet is a noob trap; every offensive-inclined Pokemon that could theoretically benefit from it would always rather have another power-boosting item instead.
The title of the video: The Best Fire Type Pokemon isn't what you Think. Me: It's Incineroar. Wolfey: Ok it is what you think but allow me to explain. BTW this is a great concept for a video that could turn into a series looking at the different types competitive history and some of the best Pokemon of each type, of course there would be repeats in some positions but still would like this format for other types. Keep up the good work Wolfey 👍
@@TwilightChomperEnthusiastnot really for silvally to be a Fire type It needs an object which removes its possibilities of having : recovery/additional damage/support capability Roms do also not give silvally any boost as the plates do so It is really hard for him maybe if he could be any type AND be able to hold an object It could have a chance

I wanna see how which one Wolfey values more. But top three def is Urshifu, Kyorge and Gastrodon and I dont think any others come close besides maybe Fini
As a fire type enjoyer ( its my favorite type ) and a incineroar enjoyer ( its my favorite Pokemon ) i also think its the BEST fire type of all time , since its the BEST suport but also you couldn't let him alone since it's decent damage output , that Pokemon made me enter máster rank for the first time when i was a "noob" in competitive Pokemon , its been my favourite since i started playing and its the one that i think its the BEST of all time Edit : also wolfe forgot something , incineroar beeing dark type makes It inmune yo prankster , so It can be taunted by tornadus , grimsnarl etc...
Question: Will Incineroar still be broken with Iron Hands around? Iron Hands absolutely shrugs off all of Incineroar's Dark-type attacks, doesn't particularly care for its Flare Blitz, also has access to Fake Out, and can threaten it super effectively with Drain Punch.
and yet Hands itself is affected by intimidate ensuring the cat survives anything thrown at it, PLUS Incineroar outspeeds and can/will Parting Shot it into uselessness

You’re the best fire type Wolfe, pumping out all this heat
Can we get a video like this for every typing? Amazing animations, effects, presentation as always 11/10.
It's gonna be Incineroar right? Incineroar is such a customizable Pokemon and with access to some great support moves, it's just the best.
I think it's Incineroar tbh. It's flexibility of it's moves and the fact that you don't need a Red Orb or Dynamax to use it makes it even better.
Fire types have so many great designs and mons, I can’t wait to see what Wolfey thinks is the best!
He's talking about competitive
@@mathieul4303*_OR IS HE???_*
(Ex. .357mag)
You should’ve given an honorable mention to VGC’s newest riding star, Hisuian-Arcanine
Same reason chi yu and Ogerpon weren’t on the list. Only been legal for one full season
@@therealivysaurit has 2 4x weaknesses and 2 regular weaknesses not 4. Plus it has a good base stat total and move pool.
@@therealivysaurits winning every regionals after dlc
The editing in this video is actually insane, wow 🔥
In my opinion, Primal Groudon is the best. It placed 2nd through 8th at 2016 with the exception of 6th, and the team that managed to stop it had both Rayquaza AND Kyogre. Plus, the amount of Pokémon that can reasonably and viably run a mixed set is VERY few - pretty much just Groudon. The tools needed to deal with it alone is a good show for how powerful it really was.
I agree Prim Groudon is the most "Powerful" fire type..
But not the best fire type
With this retrospective here, I am kinda thinking what a format would look with everything legal:
-Mega
-G-Max
-Z Moves
-Terra
-All Versions of all abilities and moves
-etc.
The production value in this video is *insane*. 10/10 WELL DONE, team :)
Wolfe made a list, then honorable mentions, then 2 versions of honorable mention honorable mentions. Incredible
for me another menace was blaziken when he got speed boost if left unchecked it could literally sweep your team
22:06 forgot the most powerful counter the duck with cloud nine
Still can lol. Incoming in dlc in a few weeks 😮
@@scottcrysel yep tera blaziken Is going to be a nightmare to deal with
I guess he didn't mention it, because it's rather lackluster in VGC, but 100% bonkers in Singles.
being mega blaz even better than mega charizard y
Blaziken is such a menace that with speed boost it's most probably even better than its mega.
That incineroar speech had me DYING with the edits😂😂
Man I watched like 4 of your videos today… I’ve never seen so many unskippable ads in my life man… that makes the viewing experience super awesome dude!!!
The fact that we will never see GMAx charizard and primal groundon but inceneroar will always come back once in a while and still be one of the best support option is hella scary
This was such a fun video! I agree with what you picked as the best fire type, but my personal favorite is Hisuian Typhlosion. She's just so cute :)
Also, shout out to the editor/s!
those items won't make any difference to Incineroar; the meta is already full of Fake Out (Iron Hands, Rillaboom) and Intimidate (Landorus, H-Arcanine) and yet those two items are rarely ever seen
Cloak has only been used on Tornadus which Incineroar can just pivot out of for free and Clear Amulet is a meme; offensive Pokemon would far rather run offensive items that boost their power
@@IncineRand Sure but Ogerpon made players run Tera Dragon. Intimidate made players run Clear amulet and Lash out when there is Defiant and Guard Dog. I am basically saying anything is possible, so things can be said with Incineroar around the corner
A full series with videos like this for every type would be really cool 💚❤️💙
Lmao at the Incineroar section editing. Loved it.
I've been preaching the Incineroar gospel for years on it's GOAT status. No surprise here.
Great vid as usual. The more frenetic editing went a long way in keeping the energy up!
Groudon is the GOAT imo, even though i feel like Incineroar is just the best competitive Pokémon of all time.
would love to watch this for every type
please do all types!!!!
5:42 The transition of tera grass heatran to tera fairy heatran while also keeping the flow of the animation is too smooth🫡
It's actually slugma
I absolutely want to see this series for every type of
Incineroar is and will always be the best fire type in VGC. Can’t wait to see how many people will use it in the next SV DLC.
Probably most of them, its too damn useful NOT to run it in most teams
Annihilape will be running rampant because it was built in a lab to counter everything Incineroar does lol

So much self-insert but it makes the video even better 😂
you set up for a 10/10 slugma balls joke perfectly, multiple times, and i admire your restraint
the editing of this video is stellar, and i love how you can tell the editor had the most fun in the incineroar section with all the little jokes and sound effects

In national dex you can now use heatcrash with primal groudon. Meaning that it now has a 120 power physical fire type attack that CAN'T miss
@@brendan1871 I agree, it's strong and f*cks certain targets. I was just pointing out that it isn't super spammable.
@@Luragon9876
Meanwhile, every Gouging Fire running Heat Crash in Reg F
@@Endershock1678 That's cool, and *completely irrelevant* considering we were talking about Smogon Singles NatDex Ubers, not VGC.
@@IncineRandYour onion, m8.
We need the agency x wolfey collab again
The title of the video: The Best Fire Type Pokemon isn't what you Think.
Me: It's Incineroar.
Wolfey: Ok it is what you think but allow me to explain.
BTW this is a great concept for a video that could turn into a series looking at the different types competitive history and some of the best Pokemon of each type, of course there would be repeats in some positions but still would like this format for other types. Keep up the good work Wolfey 👍
I'm like 90% sure he got a new editor and I'm all for it
You should do this for each type.
I beg wolfey makes a “how good would megas be in gen 9” video
Good idea
Fire type has always been my favorite, Charizard was my first starter as a kid and Blaziken is my all time favorite Pokémon
I so wanna see a series talking about the best mons of every type
That’s some sick art in the thumbnail
Well, Silvally-Fire should be in the top -5 or else I’ll be sad. Truly an amazing Pokémon that is SSSS tier in any tier list.
i could Only Wish on that lol
@@Mepphy99 Underrated Pokémon really.
@@TwilightChomperEnthusiastnot really
for silvally to be a Fire type It needs an object which removes its possibilities of having : recovery/additional damage/support capability
Roms do also not give silvally any boost as the plates do
so It is really hard for him
maybe if he could be any type AND be able to hold an object It could have a chance
Silvally is my favourite Pokémon, tied with Lycanroc. Silvally definitely deserves more love! 😔🙏
There's a pokemon fan game called rejuvenation added Silvally Crest. STAB moves are 1.8 stronger than 1.5 stronger (like Arceus's plate). On top of that every type has it's unique ability. It still suffers the huge movepool overhaul tho
I know it's a HUGE wish but cmon Silvally is a fan favourite (and legendary). But hey a man can dream
You should do the best water type next, Im intrested to see if you think Urshifu sweeps or not
Kyogre is for sure the top water
@@scottcryselGastrodon has just as many worlds wins 👀
@@scottcrysel I think its number 2 to Urshifu cause of course Drizzle on switch in and Water Spout boosted by that is huge damage on everything in the game and has won 2 world championships but does that out weight the strength of being able to always crit, hit multiple times and by pass through protect and has one world championship. I wanna see how which one Wolfey values more. But top three def is Urshifu, Kyorge and Gastrodon and I dont think any others come close besides maybe Fini
Would love to see a full series on every type
props to the video editor(s)
Me starting this video knowing enough about Wolfey Lore to already know its Incineroar
I’d say primal groudon because it’s stats are so op and used correctly can cause massive damage and only having one weakness helps a lot
As a fire type enjoyer ( its my favorite type ) and a incineroar enjoyer ( its my favorite Pokemon ) i also think its the BEST fire type of all time , since its the BEST suport but also you couldn't let him alone since it's decent damage output , that Pokemon made me enter máster rank for the first time when i was a "noob" in competitive Pokemon , its been my favourite since i started playing and its the one that i think its the BEST of all time
Edit : also wolfe forgot something , incineroar beeing dark type makes It inmune yo prankster , so It can be taunted by tornadus , grimsnarl etc...
Incen will just hide and run again and again with intimidate and parting shot bc Incen is faster than Hand
@@IncineRandwhen reality sets in that incineroar is not meant to beat iron hands but allow its teammates to knock it out. Truly the team player of all time
