One turn to setup Sunny Day/Electric Terrain gives you 5+ turns of Protosynthesis/Quark Drive, yet no paradox mon run those moves even in lower tiers of comp play. One turn sitting around is just too much in the current meta, especially if it's doing something as telegraphed as Protecting every other turn. Even if Regigigas had a super Fake Out/Gen 1 Wrap effect every other turn that stopped the opponent from moving entirely and had only 3 turns of Slow Start, it still wouldn't be good in comp, imo. Gen 8 let Weezing completely remove Slow Start turn 0 and then gave Gigas a Super Saiyan mode that effectively doubled its defenses and let it spam 140 bp STAB that broke through Protect for three turns, and even then it was strong only in a format that restricted if not straight up banned most other 600+ legendaries. Anything less than that, and... don't get me wrong, it'd be _a lot better than it is now,_ but it won't be seen that much more often still.
To buff slow start reduce it to 2 turns instead of 5. Simple as that. Truant should just limit attacking so status moves are still an option. Make emergency Exit an immunity to being trapped, like ghosts.
I think emergency exist should still retain the switching out on 50 percent health but the damage stops at 50 percent like a focus sash and switch at the end of the turn
I think a better way to buff Emergency Exit, is to give you the choice to switch out if Golisopod takes direct damage, and if its HP got to 50% or below.
That emergency exit buff is actually insane. ESPECIALLY now that pursuit doesn't exist anymore. First Impression becoming a 90bp priority U-turn on Golisopod is ridiculous.
I have my own idea for Defeatist. Make it similar to Water Spout, at full HP it gets 1.5x damage. 3/4 HP it gets 1.25x damage. At half HP it gets normal damage. And at 1/4 HP it gets 0.75x damage. Obviously it wouldn't JUST get these 4, its damage will slowly go down even if it just loses 2 HP. If we want to buff Archeops as well, I would recommend a Rock type physical Water Spout called Landslide
I really like how you made it have an actual good effect, one could argue archeops doesn’t need to be hindered by an ability at all, i mean, Archeops has good stats but they aren’t stellar.
Put the Slaking in a situation where it's forced to protect then double into its partner the next turn. Whats amazing is you still have to target the Slaking turn1 on the off chance it didn't Protect otherwise you're giving up damage on the turn it was healing up. Do you then double into the partner and possibly hit Slaking or attack it attempting to power through? All this assuming the Slaking isn't running ResTalk and is perfectly fine having Truant put it to sleep. I like how deep this change goes in adjusting it but might still need the attack lowering
@@aaronolson6736 I Was thinking any ghost type with dream eater would be a pretty big counter but Slaking also learns sucker punch. A protect, sleep talk, sucker punch and Double edge set would be pretty strong. life orb or not, another change on top either stats or move pool is probably needed with the ability change I agree.
My problem with some of the changes is that we are supposed to work around these weak abilties. Normalize - no change from current. All Delcatty needs is Skill Swap or Entrainment. Combine that with Tera Ghost or Trick or Treat to be broken Rivalry - your change ->👍 Emergency Exit - the ability can only trigger after it attacked that turn (it switches after using an attack at 50% or if it was sent to 50% after attacking) -So you don't lose a turn. After it triggers the first time, using First Impression will cause it to switch after, which will prevent it from getting hit. Mycelium Might - half speed 👍 + I'd add for it to ignore type immunities as well Truant - After it uses an attacking move, it can only use healing status moves next turn (like Slack off or Rest. Limitation is so you still can't use protect or drain punch). If you would Struggle, you skip your turn instead. You can use swords dance turn 1 and attack turn 2, but at turn 3 you can only use Slack off. Slow Start - 👍 Stall - 👍 Defeatist - Give -2 stat to Attack and Sp. Attack when it hits 50% (like berserk but way worse). This way, white herb, mist, topsy turvy or clear smog can stop it.
Rivalry already has a pretty decent effect in the Mystery Dungeon series. Instead of being based on gender, it increases the power of moves by 20% against Pokemon of the same type.
An bad ability thats often overlooked is Keen eye. it prevents acc for dropping. which early on when pokemon spam sand attack is sortve helpful. a buff id give it is a 30% boost to acc
For Slow Start, I'd just have the power go up by 10% each turn. So you start at 50% power at the beginning of turn 1 like normal, go to 60% start of turn 2, 70% turn 3, etc with you back at full power when turn 6 starts. (And obviously we're keeping the "the timer doesn't reset when switching out" buff too)
I enjoyed the video, but some of these are way too OP. Like Slaking. Even dealing half damage, it’s still dealing respectable damage compared to the nuke last turn. The real issue is using status moves. Imagine this thing throws a nuke on you, then next turn it can: paralyze you, encore you, boost attack and defense with bulk up, rest, sub, curse to boost attack and defense. Then It can nuke you after. GOD NO. Keep truant the way it is please. Regigigas: just no. 3 turns, in which you can protect for 2, and rage powder/ follow me for 1, for 360 base attack and 200 speed. I know it’s a legendary but you’re giving Zacian a run for its money. Regigigas even has spread moves like bulldoze and rock slide, EARTHQUAKE to ignore rage powder/follow me. Also the point on it not being able to raise state: sword of ruin Chien-Pao would make Regigigas do basically 25% extra damage Stall ability sounds super annoying! 50% is far to overturned, as you can combo it with screens.
Also if stall was added to a “defense behemoth” we will be back in the stall meta in full force, and combining it with burn, screens, etc, would make you practically indestructible
For Rivalry, another change could be to ditch the gender focus altogether and make it a boost based on how much stronger (i.e., higher level) the opponent is. At the same level, it's a baseline boost of 1.2x, up to 1.5x if the opponent is 10+ levels higher. But against lower level opponents, the ability actually lowers the mon's damage output. Think Ash's Charizard in the anime (it would also be a cool and very lore accurate ability for Charizards to have in the games, but it kind of already has Solar Power for its HA, which isn't a bad ability at all). How Rivalry works right now is not only mostly based on a mechanic otherwise completely detached from battling (no, Attract/Cute Charm don't make gender an integral part of battles), but a lot of the mons it is given to don't even make sense having same sex rivalries. Nidoking is literally the only mon that makes sense with it as it works now, being a male-only counterpart with actual stat differences and an implied nomadic lifestyle. Even then, the female counterpart in Nidoqueen is explicitly stated to live in nests and burrows - as in they stay mainly within a static territory - and yet _they also have Rivalry as an ability._ Rivals with who, the kids in their nest? Even the Nidorans and Nidorina/Nidorino kind of don't work with the ability, but they're pre-evos that eventually evolve into something that has it, so I'll give them more of a pass. Let's go down the rest of the list: • Beautifly - actually the second best fit for the ability, since male butterflies (esp. aggressive species) are known to brawl over territory. Still doesn't explain why female Beautifly also have Rivalry, when, again, only male butterflies fight over territory in real life and nothing in Beautifly's lore implies that they are any different in that regard. • Luxray line - Based on lynxes, who are mostly solitary and thus male and female lynxes fight each other over territory as well. • Unfezant line - The third runner up in having the ability fit, but again female Unfezants also have Rivalry when it doesn't really make sense for them to. • Haxorus line - Solitary, defends their territory regardless of sex, and has no gendered differences at all. Next. • Pyroar - Male lions do have territory disputes as pretty much a guaranteed stage of their life, but lions actually have to fight those of opposite sex pretty often as well. And even if you want to magnify specifically into the lifestyle of male lions starting off their adult life as nomadic while female lions stay in the same prides, then again female Pyroars having the ability make no sense. • Why tf doesn't Tauros have Rivalry. So out of the 18 dex slots that have the ability as it is now, only 1 mon makes complete sense to have it while only 5 make sense ~half of the time. While if you change it to the one I suggested above, then _all_ of them would make sense to have it _and_ it would make their match-ups completely non-gender reliant (i.e., more consistent in competitive). I'm tired of Luxray and Haxorus's _only_ damage boosting abilities being hard countered by Showdown's gender coin flip.
That rivalry change is one of the worst suggestions I have ever seen. Lets make an ability that is absolutely randomly a choice band and turns to team building gender choosing to avoid a massive but inconsistent boost. Horrible, horrible, horrible
Iron Fist: boost it to x1.5 Long Reach: splash damage like flame burst Liquid Voice: resistance to sound based moves Runaway: cannot be trapped Synchronize: stares volatile status too Magma Armor/Water Veil/Leaf Guard: blocks all status
I'd buff truant by allowing slacking to use moves like rest, slack off, and yawn during traunt turns. It's not great, but at least it gets to do something
I like the channel but uhhhh....giving the buffed version of stall to toxapex and your suggestions for truant and slow start are wayyyyy too broken. Protect existing, among several other things, pretty much removes all the downsides of all of those Edit: also having a 90bp priority u turn on golisopod is also insane even without a choiceband...
I think instead of giving Normalize the effect of both Scrappy and Tinted Lens and trying to make It an offensive ability, I would play more to Delcaty's few strengths to make it a supportive move by giving it priority. Essentially a prenerfed Prankster with the benefit of Priority Double Edge to defeat chipped Pokemon. Delcatty still wouldn't be great but it would be able to be an effective member of a team
Poor Wishiwashi, no one remembers you, especially with how Dondozo does the giant fish gimmick infinitely better. I'd buff Schooling with a "+x Priority on next move used after being forced to change to its Solo Forme". While it's Solo Form has THE lowest base stat total, with another move added to it's movepool-either Memento, Healing Wish or both-you could have a hard hitting beast under Trick Room that still has its uses when reverting to its weaker forme. Also I'd make it's form change immediate after surpassing its 25% HP threshold instead at the end of the turn. That way pokemon like Sinistcha can switch in and immediately heal the partner Wishiwashi over its 25% HP and have it immediately have its Schooling Forme be active again, with its high defenses.
I had some ideas of reworks of my own. Truant lets Slaking use a move on the turn it loafs around but it can only use non-contact moves like Slack Off or Earthquake. Archeops could swap out Defeatist for Emergency Exit which is reworked to give Priority to Pivot moves at low health and boosts the power of said moves by 50% with Golisopod getting Flip Turn and U-Turn as part of that rework. Thoughts?
Tbh for Slaking I would remove Protect from its move pool similar to old-gen Regigigas. I think Protects every other turn would be very readable, but at the same time, that’s still giving Slaking a little more utility than I think a non-legendary deserves lol
