  • since #celeste released in 2018. I've always felt like there was an untapped hole in the market for games to follow along using it as inspiration, and finally one true hidden gem has come along! Kick back, relax and enjoy my review of Archaeogem!

Always a good sign when the main critique is "There isn't enough of this game".

An amazing short and sweet video on what seems to be an amazing short and sweet game! Honestly this game seems really cool! It looks super unique which is not an easy thing for platformers in this day and age, and it has some stellar pixel art! Platformers have never really been my bag, Celeste is the main one that I've played which really grabbed me, so I might have to give this game a try! Awesome to see you shining a spotlight on smaller games like these and I'd love to see similar vids in the future! Also really cool of the devs to send you a review copy!

It's so amazing that indie studios are reaching out to you now! Thanks to you, I'm certainly picking this up right away, You've done an incredible job highlighting this game's strengths while giving genuine and considerate constructive criticism, and I'm certain other developers will be reaching out to you after this!
Also thank you for taking care of yourself. You create amazing content every week and you deserve some well-earned rest!

Thank you so much for this amazing video and review! I'm very glad you enjoyed the gameplay, story and art as much as you did :D
Almost every point you brought up for things that could be improved in the game are things that we have, at some point or another, given a try. Sadly, as is the case most of the time, the biggest factors holding this game back were time and money. At the time of release, we already had to make significant changes to get it out the door, and even had significant polish updates after its release. Originally, I intended for the final chapter to have a gauntlet-style "all mechanics at once" room (in the game project, you can even see a big empty hall where that would've taken place), but ultimately we decided to strip back the final chapter a bit to avoid player fatigue and also to not overwhelm them after so many new concepts. We also had many ideas and mechanics that we'd love to use in a potential DLC or sequel - you can even play with some new mechanics in a couple of secret areas in the game, if you know where to look - but that would only really happen if fate had it for us to once again have enough time and money to expand on this game.
It is by far the favorite project I've ever worked on (I was the level designer, with Gagonfe being the lead game designer and main programmer). We put a lot of love and care in every single detail, and it's so nice to see that people really appreciated all the little things we could squeeze in. And hey, about that Mario Maker thing: we kinda already worked on an in-game level editor, but due to various restrictions we had to leave it out of the final release. No promises, but who knows, we might make it public one day; I would genuinely love to see what people can come up with in terms of new levels!
Thank you so much for this video and for speaking so kindly of our little gem! I hope we can continue making games that people enjoy :)
