You are a homemaking-awesome- Olympic-level gold-medal 🥇HERO Miss Phyllis! You stayed with it, wrestled it and WON‼️ Watching this video on my birthday, inspired me to not let my senior years hold me back 😃. Thanks & God bless 🙏🏼❣️🤗❣️
Hi Miss Phyllis. Great work you did with this lamp. You have so much patience!! I really admire that you're determined to do it yourself, instead of asking for Mr. Buckey's help. 😁 I just found you on here a few months ago. I absolutely LOVE you both, and Steely and Sunny. ♥️💟💜❣️ I feel like you and Mr. Buckey are like family. I can watch & listen to y'all for hours! I love "story time". I've tried several of your recipes already and they are DELICIOUS!!!!! THANK-YOU for everything we learn from you, and for just being YOU! 😀❣️ Big hugs. Love, Kim.
I don't blame you for not going through that again! One tip, before taking anything apart, take pictures on your cell phone. I even take pictures of notes and serial numbers on things so I can make them larger to see from my phone. Thanks for sharing!!
Using your phone to take pictures and make them larger is a very good idea, that would work for the ingredients on cans too. I always have trouble reading the ingredients when the can label is a dark color and the print is white. I think they my do this on purpose so you can't read all the preservatives in the food.
Hi Phyllis...made my FIRST green smoothie this morning. Drinking it now. It is very yummy. Just used what I had on hand...carrots, apple, orange juice, baby spinach "for my greens :) ", frozen strawberries, dates, spoonful of peanut butter and some honey. Can't believe how good it tastes! Watched the video of Mr. Bucky cooking..good team effort. You all are like me and my hubby...God loving best friends. Glad to see your thumb is better. Great job on the lamp. Determination pays off.
Phyllis, I admire you so much. You are always tackling things that a lot of people wouldn’t do. You are extremely smart and resourceful. I would love to know at least 1/2 of what you know in my lifetime. Much love to you and Mr Bucky.
Your a great sport. The video is very informative and the missteps are sometimes as beneficial as seeing just the right steps. Now I want to try it myself. Just realized I don't have either of the 2 floor lamps that I once had. They somehow didn't make the move down from Maryland. Hmm One was my Grandmother's. I'll have some explaining to do during bedtime prayers this evening !
I didn't realize it been at least a few years ago since she passed. I miss Phyllis, I probably came onto her videos, probably a year before this one, I guess. She was such a blessing. But now I came on to her video because I was actually trying to fix my lamp replacing the socket and and I can't believe, I came onto one of her videos from 4 years ago wow! I remember seeing her son in last videos. Hope he is well. And I never knew about his relationship with the Lord, my memories slip here and there. But hoping he trusts in the Lord and hope he has a good relationship, like Miss Phyllis. In hopes I meet her in heaven as time is for me in due time, no sooner. My health is difficult praying for recovery. Glad her videos still going. Praise Jesus!
Hi Mrs. Phyllis! You persevere, and have patience, that's for sure. I was hoping each time you had problems, you would succeed. Congratulations, you fixed the lamp! God bless you and your family.
So very admirable for fixing the lamp instead of tossing it in the landfill. Also, a good sturdy floor lamp is worth saving. Great perseverance Miss Phyllis!!
First let me say kudos to you Phyllis for tackling a job with no experience being an electrician! You got the job done! There are many ways to skin a cat although I have never seen it done that way. You DO NOT NEED a three-way bulb! Unless you absolutely want three different levels off, low and high. The orientation of the wires does not matter on a lamp and I have never even thought twice about it when I changed out a cord on a lamp but if it was an appliance like a toaster or blender I would be sure to get them in the right order. Again congratulations for getting the lamp repaired without shedding any blood!
Jim, the orientation of wires on a lamp is a safety, not functional, issue. You want to have the hot wire on the center "button" contact at the base of the socket, not the shell (threaded) contact. That's so that if you take the bulb out while the lamp is plugged in and turned on (because the bulb burned out), you are far less likely to electrocute or shock yourself. It's easy to touch the shell with your fingers, but much harder to touch the center contact down inside the socket. Still, you *should* unplug it before changing the bulb, but many people don't.
Miss Phyllis, I wish I had your moxie, and able to do home repairs myself, especially, electrical work! You are my hero, and I am going to try and do some repairs that are out of my traditional 'comfort zone' !! I always look foward to your videos, they help make my day, that much brighter! Blessings, Genevieve From NM
Congratulations !! Patience and determination , you've lots more than I! Thank you for the share 😀 !! Now onto some of your delicious recipes and other fun happenings !!🌷
I LOVE repairing things myself 🙂 Growing up it was either fix it or lose the use of it. GOOD for you, Phyllis 😀 You did it 😉 If you look at the video at 2:39 you can see the little decorative part goes down further on the stem, but you made it work just fine. I've learned to take a quick pic with my phone before starting a project since at 60 I can forget some of the details. ... Oh! the cardboard is used for insulation so you don't need the electrical tape.
Great job on the floor lamp! I once changed a door lock by myself and it took me a long time. I kept on trying and I didn't give up. I became a locksmith that day😚.
Ms Phyllis as usual you amaze me. I are one in a million. I'm honored to watch and share your lives. Blessings for you both. I'm sorry I have smiled and even laughed with you. I loved your will I do it again? Absolutely not. Lol. Again great job. You never gave up.
I cannot even tell you how much I loved this video! I have some antique floor lamps from the 20's that need rewiring and you taught me a couple of things that I will surely be using when attempting that task. Got a big bang out of you forgetting for a minute how it went back together and your lil pup whining, ha ha ha! Glad your mission was accomplished.
Great job, Ms Phyllis! You're an inspiration for sure! After watching your video, I'll try my hand at rewiring a swivel-arm wall lamp instead of tossing it.,,I was gonna take the easy way out and get a new lamp!
ty ...i ve been wanting to repair a lamp I paid 119 dollars to repair the cord before and they didn't use URL items....I m glad you showed this because I had no clue and I m a visual learner...ty so much. Now I can repair my rod iron lamp as well....love rod iron...lasts.
Oh I loved your video A triumph of the human spirit Honestly it was lovely to watch you struggling with the lamp...I’ve watched you for years now and love you...I wonder about you because when you told me you even traded on the stock market I thought this is an interesting lady...both of my mother and grandmothers are gone now so I appreciate you...thank you I’m inspired to take on the days ahead with laughter as our Lord teaches xo...
I would like to add one more thing before I go. Miss Phyllis, you are as real as it gets on here. I look forward to your videos of cooking and every day life. The stories and the whole nine yards. Thank You.
My bedside lamp has a 3 way switch but a single bulb for years with no problem, Miss Phyllis so that won't be an issue. Shorter lamps are not so much hassle, either. You DID a great job and I do love your lamp, too. Two new terms for you (if you love learning new things). The little tip that holds the shade on is called a finial and the brass piece that you squeeze the ends of, then set your shade on is called a harp.....of all things. I love your adventurous nature.
You did great! I know it was a lot of trouble and you wouldn't want to do it again, but it also has to be a real sense of accomplishment that you took care of it! Thanks for the video.. it was really helpful to watch all of the steps involved.
I did my one headlight on my car, right in the parking lot at the store..had a few stares, and offers of help but I had no problem..we love you Ms.Phyllis,.so never worry what anyone says, your awesome,.
Hi Phyllis. You and I have alot in common. I'm always working on little fix it jobs around the house. The first time I rewired a lamp I bought the whole kit at lows. The kit is so much easier. Doesn't cost that much. You're doing good.
My little poodle, Dweezle, does the same thing - I can't even go into the bathroom without him having a fit, and since Ujaesti and Doodlebug were born, they have to be in there too! Crimniy! And great job on the lamp!
I make teacup/teapot lamps. At first was so nervous to wire. I watched many UTube videos. Wiring is not hard but you have to be really careful with the connections placed correctly. I have been afraid to tackle floor lamp and chandeliers. You are pretty smart to do that the first time.
Thanks for sharing, my hubby does the wire thing in this house. I have a lamp that my youngest dog chewed up when he was puppy, my dog is now 5 yrs old. Hubby still has not fixed that lamp! I might have to do it myself lol.
You go girl!!! My sister and I just had this conversation the other day. I was showing her my lamps that daughter said were broken. However all I had to do was tighten the screws. Anyhow, I asked her if she ever learned to wire a lamp from momma and she said, no sadly she did not...............
Phyllis re watch your video, you will notice in the part where you take the "harp" off that the round "plate" is down farther not right under the switch. It is actually between the 2 pieces of pipe. But you got it all together and it works so that is the most important part. Good job.
Awesome job!! I have a floor lamp that needs re-wiring too. I don't know if I will attempt to fix it!! Haha Awww and your cute baby doggy sounded so cute!!
Your patience paid off it was like trying to put a jig saw puzzle together It would be fun if you and Mr. Bucky did a video talking about all the projects done around your home. My dad was always tinkering around with stuff fixing things. Once we had a field fire and he had put out big milk cans incase it came back. Well the next day was April Fools and while my dad was on the ladder to fix the roof on a shed I decided to yell fire. He nearly fell off the ladder and by golly when he came down and I said april fool he picked me up and set me right on that milk can of cold water, looked at me and said there now the fire is out. Whew that was a lesson learned. I just thought I would share this silly story.
Thank you for showing the how tos on lamp repairs. I don't plan on ever doing it I'll leave it up to Don.He like chef bucky has always done all the repairs around the house. And after all the trouble you went to, I'm for sure its his job. Ha ! Ha ! Love your puppies. The young one and the older one. They just look like forever puppies. Blessings Carol
Wow, Miss Phyllis...you are so amazing! Just watching you do it, though, and I know I will never be having a go at that...I was tired just watching YOU do all the work!!! And that little Sunny...he was being a real cry-baby for his mama...that's for sure! ;-) *
Yea for you; you did it. Good timing on the post. I thought my vacuum had a smell in the tube so I took it apart today. Didn't find anything and had a heck of a time putting it back together. I don't know what I did wrong but now the upright part won't stay upright. The vacuum came with free lifetime cleanings twice a year, so I could have just taken it to the shop. I should not be let alone with a screwdriver!!! I did hear Sunny asking politely if he could come in. Also heard the kitties early in the video. So sweet.
I must tell you Sunny has never ask for anything politely, he is a very demanding little boy who probably needs a little discipline. He has gotten a little out of hand since the kittens arrived at our house. He bosses the kitten around something terrible now since they stay out of their cage a lot during the day.
I was talking to my phone and loling hoping you would go back and watch what you had previously recorded to see where you got out of order on the reassembling. Anyway it all worked out. Good job Miss Phyllis.
Oh, That was painful. LOL Was your ears burning? LOL Well, probably just as good as I was the first time I tried something like this but I was sitting here watching you struggle and near the end as you placed that little dish shaped piece on the top near the socket instead of on the bottom of that last section I was saying "Oh no,no,no, " Well it went together anyway and lit up, Look at the beginning of your video (If you haven't already) and you will see what I mean. As a mechanic I would give you one thing that might help you next time. Take a picture of the project you are taking apart before you start and it will help you remember what it looked like before you fixed it. LOL Got to give you an "A" for effort though. You really got into it. Nice visiting you as always stay as sweet as you are. That was a great DIY Video.
You have no idea how much I enjoyed this I swear we’re more alike each day. I love doing these kinds of things all by myself and figuring things out, you did excellent. I was cheering you all the way could ya hear me? Lol Phyllis are you keeping your home or selling it still.? I hope you stay there it’s beautiful. Was hoping the fur babies might bust through the door so we could get a look but maw maw needed time for herself 😂👍
The little brass pieces on the end of the mfg. cord are called spade connectors, they are used during assembly so workers can just stick them into the connection points without using a screw driver each time. They are not made to be removed. The sockets without screws are cheaper per piece units and cost effective to work with.
It was funny watching you do this. My dad made sure his girls all knew how to wire a lamp before we left highschool. I was coaching you through the process, but alas, you didn't hear me.😅. I'm sorry that your 1st attempt was so difficult. It need'nt have been. 🤔😉😊 Reader's Digest has a book calle "Fix it Yourself". It covers so much. You can skip the plumbing section it's already your specialty!
Great job, Miss Phyllis!. Next time you can't recall the position of a part, look on an earlier part of the recording. Or take a picture with your phone or csmera before you start to keep as reference. Thats what I have to do nowadays - lol.

I'm officially permanently impressed! GORGEOUS lamp btw.
So freaky you doing this video, I myself have just fixed my floor lamp for the very first time all on my own. Love your videos so much xx

So glad to hear you like the green smoothie. You used a good combination making the smoothie.
There's just no end to your talents

I have collected a number of antique floor lamps through the years with the intentions of someday fixing them.
Thank you so much for this video.
Good job! I would also be the one fixing a lamp while my husband watched TV...haha. Same with my parents. In fact, my mom looked a lot like you too!
Southern frugal at it's finest! Next one will be easier! Super job at figuring it out. Thank you for the video.❤from Kansas City🌻

Good job. You did that without getting angry. So proud of you, my friend.

Great job on the floor lamp! I once changed a door lock by myself and it took me a long time. I kept on trying and I didn't give up. I became a locksmith that day😚.
Well done Miss Phyllis!! I changed our doorbell and electrical plugs by myself just by watching UA-cam 😂 🚍
Good job nice lamp

A triumph of the human spirit
Honestly it was lovely to watch you struggling with the lamp...I’ve watched you for years now and love you...I wonder about you because when you told me you even traded on the stock market I thought this is an interesting lady...both of my mother and grandmothers are gone now so I appreciate you...thank you I’m inspired to take on the days ahead with laughter as our Lord teaches xo...

Wow Phyllis, great job!! You have so much patience and determination! ❤️❤️❤️
Hi. You did a very good job on that lamp. Very nice. You did it. 👍👍😘💓
Good job! Beautiful lamp!
"absolutely not!" haha - that made me laugh - I wouldn't have had the patience to get through the first three minutes - well done!
Proud of you for tacking it! Great job!
Feel proud Ms. Phyllis ! You did a great job just the same lol It was good to know how to do it yourself.
I will not try this...but you did a great job without any help. You are so patient. Great job.

your new name " Never give up Miss Phyllis". but to quote a famous lady "I can't be concerned about that."
Your patience paid off it was like trying to put a jig saw puzzle together It would be fun if you and Mr. Bucky did a video talking about all the projects done around your home. The piece that holds the shade on is called the finial. The piece that holds up the shade is called the harp. Is there anything you can’t do? :)
You use the same light bulbs 💡 we use. Good grief ... you can do anything woman! 😁 Great job 👍
Pretty impressive!
You are my hero!
I have repaired couple of floor lamps and several tables lamps that I did them before the days of the videos.
You are brilliant Phyllis !!
Bravo!! You have the patience of a saint.
Good choice to get a new switch. The old one is made for "one time only". Great job!
Thanks for sharing that! You're so amazing!
Now I need to get busy and fix my old lamps LOL ..You really inspire me! Wish me luck ! :}~
Well done! Your patience is immense. Xxxxxx
Awesome frugal tip:repair not replace (on some things!!) Ty Miss P😙

I love can do people - UA-cam videos make it seem so easy to do simple repairs - save lot of $$$$
Miss Phyllis, I learned how to take the cables out, it requieres you to use a paper clip to push in pint and pull cable out.
What a beautiful lamp.
Oh, That was painful. LOL Was your ears burning? You have no idea how much I enjoyed this I swear we’re more alike each day. I love doing these kinds of things all by myself and figuring things out, you did excellent. I was cheering you all the way could ya hear me? Lol Phyllis are you keeping your home or selling it still.? I hope you stay there it’s beautiful. Was hoping the fur babies might bust through the door so we could get a look but maw maw needed time for herself 😂👍
We are still selling the house in order to build a much smaller home on the mountain property.
Phyllis Stokes I see okay then I’m sure your mountain property will be every bit as charming and homey for you and Mr. Bucky and the kids 😊
AWESOME JOB GIRL 😇
Great Job Ms Phyllis!
Good job Phyllis 😃
God bless you, you kept at it. Victory ta da!
