Discovery td5 cylinder head rebuild/ repair and other updates

- Hello in this video i will show the repair i had done on the td5 injector hole crack. it will also show rebuilding the cylinder head and fitting it to the engine.
i go through the parts needed to do the job and what modified dowels to use which stops the cylinder head moving over time.
i have also included a small incite in to changing the big end bearings inside the engine but sadly didn't film it all.

just going through this problem on my defender, had injector seals done twice so pretty sure a fuel gallery has cracked somewhere!! we have looked for a crack but can not see one. The one thing you do that had not dawned on me is changing the big end, mine has had diesel diluting the oil for far to long now so guess I will need to do this as well. thanks for post its informative
celticridertraining hello it does sound like you have a crack in your fuel gallery. If you check one of my other videos it shows you how I checked mine with crack detection dye with the injectors removed. Glad the videos can help

Hi. Question for you: how did you manage torquing the con rod bolts from the underside. especially the final 80 degrees. i cant seem to get enough clearance to manage it. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Hi Jeremy, first i jacked up the chassis to give move room above the axle. Also remove the chassis brace thats is bolted on, this also gives you more room to work. When tightening the bolts up I moved the crank so that the con rod that I was doing was at the bottom of its stroke giving better access to it. With the angle torque I did it in stages e.g. Two 40 degrees this give the same end degrees but means you can achieve it in less room. Hope this helps

hi sorry took so long to reply. They are take offs for reading boost pressure, one was used for a boost gauge inside the discovery. hope that helps

How many fuel was into oil in about 1000 miles ?
And how is normal?
Hi when I first noticed it I had done about 500 miles and had about 2.5 3 litres of fuel in the sump. Easy way to see if its happening is to keep checking your oil level if it keep rising you have a problem.
Good job. Need to do that on mine. Only discovered the problem when I replaced the turbo cartridge!
