From dueling monkeys to admirals, Yugioh GX is filled with a random "slice of life" collection of duels. In this list, I’ll countdown my top 10 filler duels from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX.
Since GX does not follow a source material (manga), the word "filler" is somewhat a misnomer, but some duels are very clearly extras. You can check out my list of "canon" vs "filler" here: bit.ly/yugiohf...
Note: duels are not necessarily ranked in terms of quality. Entertainment factor was factored as well.
Dimitri’s scarf also mimics the way Atem wore Yugi’s coat, and he even has a triangle on his shirt that’s a reference to the Millennium Puzzle.
The detailing truly is incredible in those episodes
1. The image of Ra crying because his IRL version was nerfed to kingdom come is *comedy gold!*
2. Pegasus really has no ground to stand on asking if Neos is legal when he used cards that were both insanely busted and exclusive to only him lol
GX was the pinnacle of filler duels
for real
GX Was anime first. I Feel a good change would be Jim and Axel duel the Supreme King 2 on 1, with Axel then Jim losing.
At first glance, the Bridge shows seem on a similar keel, but more of them are significant to a greater degree than these.
@@christopherb501 Both GX and Zexal have memorable one-off duels, as no one can forget the tomato farmer or the talking dog, but Sevens and Go Rush have the benefit of those seemingly one-off characters becoming reoccurring after their episodes, which helps make filler feel essential to the show and its worldbuilding.
Granted, some one-off characters do return in Zexal and GX, such as during Genex tournament in season 2 or during graduation in season 4 of GX, and in ending 5 of Zexal which features all the characters in the show including one-off ones, but that's not the same as them sticking around permanently.
Same here
I love how the filler duels in GX actually work for the story. They’re on an island school, of course there’s going to be so many different characters to duel. Unlike the other shows, GX wasn’t completely plot driven, especially in first two seasons, allowing for more creative and unique duelists like Belowski and the Admiral to show up.
Neos is a legal card, pegasus designed it, based on jadens doodles he drew for a design your own card contest. it just wasnt released in a booster yet, which makes it as legal as pegasus own toon deck in the original series, as they existed, pegasus just hadnt made them commercially avaiable yet. -destiny hero plasma also falls into that category, as it was designed by asters father (a designer, who can leally make cards), but stolen before copies could have been made.
I know lol, just a little main character humor
@@customcardguy 3:53-Plus, Ra's like...: Help me, Jaden...
Let's not forget that Tom Holland did the voice of Chumley in that Episode. I love that they got Tom Holland voice Chumley, don't you?
I’ve been saying it for years: The Best Episodes of Yugioh GX Season 2 are the filler Episodes.
Was that... Escargoon as a lawyer? Oh gawd....
Fun fact: On the latin spanish dub, Dimitri's voice actor is the same that voiced Tristan on the orignal show. So, we pretty much saw Tristan imitating Atem
That's actually hilarious xD
I’ve always wondered if Dimitri got his name from the Spider-Man villain The Chameleon. For he too can impersonate people.
GX was peak yugioh
Absolutely yes, and already because of its characters
X = Twitter is a funny joke there
..................In hindsight, maybe, yes, all things considered. But given the time period, the fact that it foreshadows this is almost assuredly pure coincidence
I KNEW you put Jaden VS Dimitri(as Yugi) at #1! I LOVE that episode as well!🏆🥇
I got my Deluxe Funko Pop figure of Pharoah Atem Autographed by *Dan "Yami" Green himself!*
I remember back in 2005 or early 2006...whenever it initially aired, I had the 2-part episode between Jaden & Dimitri recorded and watched it several times over the course of a few days. Definitely one of my favorites. Also, glad someone else noticed Dimitri refer to Spell cards as Magic cards. That was a nice little nod to the original series.
Just a really well done duel. Surprised more people don't include it in their top 10 GX duels, or at least in the discussion
For some reason I read this as “killer duels” and thought it was gonna be a severity ranking of every duel where someone’s life was endanger
Great video idea tbh
Hard agree on Dimitri vs Jaiden, its such a fun and underrated Duel!
Honestly I like the filler duels. Both characters actually use different cards and strategies. Also it gives thee friend characters a chance to win a duel.
Jaden vs Bob Banter was basically an Action Duel before Action Duels were even a thing.
there was even a duel in Arc-V that had quiz action cards
Every time I hear mokey mokey, I always hear them saying " mokey mokey" .
1:07 I mean…Bastion Misawa basically vanished off the face of the Earth, so it doesn’t surprise me xD
GX for sure had the best filler duels, The setting allowed for alot of fun setups that were fun breaks from the main plot,
Belowski(aka Mokeo) was great, tho its odd how he could talk to spirits like Jaden & Chazz + had some pretty potent powers, & was a sort of secret weapon of Crowlers to beat Jaden, but then we see him like 2 more times in bit parts & thats it. Bye bye Moki Moki,
Would have been pretty cool to have him be the"Yoda" of the group, since he was a goofy guy who knew alot about duel spirits
And then Dimitri would get a successor in OCG Structures manga.
*Sota Hyakumen* is a member of the Theater Club and often cosplays various Yugioh characters. So far he's cosplayed as:
Kaito Tenjo (dueled in chapter 43-45)
Yusei Fudo
Rare Hunter
Yuya Sakaki (dueled in chapter 60-62)
D.D. Guide
I'm still waiting for the day the Curry/Spice cards and Doll Part cards get printed!!! 🤞
Ok after seeing how fun this video was to watch, please do this for the other shows too 😊! Especially zexal since that's my favorite, and besides, who wouldn't like to see the famous "you just summoned your mom" clip again? Lol 😂
I will look into it!
Dimitri's flaw was only using Yami's strongest cards. I'm assuming almost all of Yami's cards were on tour, not just a 40-card deck. As such, Dimitri created a deck that focused solely on power, which Yami wouldn't do for the sake of balance.
10:46 I love that you have X's English Dub name as Twitter, that's hilarious
besides kagurazaka/dimitri vs judai/jaden my fav duel here is rei/blair vs judai/jaden because i don't remember who said it but there was a moment where the subtitles wrote "oh ow is burnstlady and she's pissed" 😂
Nice little sidebar joke with X lmao
honestly i love the idea of someone summon stealing one of the god cards just to then go and use it to fight a 6th grader its just an insane level of petty
Jaden Vs Lorenzo was def my favorite filler duel
11:04 Would you rather duel a pigeon? Or a massage chair?
I hate the tennis captain, Harrington. I'd love to duel him just to discard Hanewata when ever he tries to use effect damage. Just to see the look on his face as I become immune to effect damage for the entire turn each time I discard Hanewata.
I prefer these Filler duels 😂
Judai vs Franz - where Glow Moss defeated an Egyptian God.
7:15 Sure wish Burstinatrix - or Rampart Blaster - had attacked her...
My top ten yugioh gx filler duels
Honorable Mentions Jaden vs Lorenzo, Jaden vs Blair, Syrus vs Kenzan, Jaden vs X, and Jaden vs Alice.
Dishonorable Mention Jaden vs Harrington
1. Kaibaman vs Judai/Jaden Season 1 Ep 34 Fear Factor
The Best duel and the gold medal of filler duels in GX in my opinion Kaibaman vs Jaden. After defeating Camula the tolls of the seven stars get to jaden with him having nightmares of losing to some kind of dragon seeing this lack of confidence Winged Kuriboh decides to enlists help transporting from a hot spring in duel academy Jaden, Sho, Chumley, and Chazz to a special area we're duel Monsters are real and stading before them is the duel spirit Kaibaman who challenges Jaden to a duel from there we get Jaden battling against not just the card created by Seto Kaiba but the spirit whose using either a virtual world copy of Kaiba's deck or a season 4-5 kaiba utilizing Kaiba's legendary Blue-Eyes White Dragons and new strategies including said Kaibaman card and a Blue eyes support card despite Jaden being able to fight back he has to contend with the Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon and while he at first thinks he slayed it only to see that it failed as Kaibaman brings back the Blue-Eyes white dragons and ends the duel in a way I think Kaiba was going to go for in the Battle city finals against yugi. Despite Jaden losing the duel he learns a lesson overcoming his fears and gaining new confidence in himself. also in season 1 Jaden has only lost twice first was to zane the second was to kaibaman and the only duel with no rematch.
2. Jaden vs Dimitri Season 1 Episode 18-19 The King of CopyCats both Part 1 and 2
Taking the silver medal is Jaden Dueling Dimitri. Dimitri is a copy cat duelist and when "Yugi's deck" goes on tour to duel Academy. Dimitri steals the deck and duels Jaden and he uses it flawlessly from summoning Chimera to Dark Magician to summoning Dark Magician of Chaos and getting The Envoy of the Beginning like how in the KC Grand Prix we have Kaiba summoning Chaos Emperor Dragon Envoy of the end. despite how the duel ends it is overshadowed by the Yugi vs Jaden duel at the end of GX but I will say if this deck was really yugi's then it should have had more inclusions like the magnet warriors, The royal knight trio, Gilfer demon but still its a good deck using some card Yugi does use later in season 4 and early season 5.
3. Judai/Jaden vs Dark Magician Girl Season 1 episode 42 Duel Monsters Spirit Day
Taking the bronze medal for me in Filler duels is Jaden vs Dark Magician girl. Its Duel Monsters spirit day and we see our cast dressing up as duel monsters but during a duel the Dark Magician girl appears and duels Jaden with Sho and Manjoume commentating. We get some interesting combos with Dark Magician girl summoning herself along with using the Magician Valkrye's there first appearance in the show outside of her first film appearance in the Pyramid of Light movie. While Jaden does get the victory summoning steamhealer for the only time Syrus does get a kiss from DMG.
4. Edo/Aster vs Chazz/Manjoume season 4 Ep 166 Armed Dragon vs Dragoon D End
Our next Duel and first of's is a between Aster Phoenix vs Chazz with Chazz wanting to be a pro without his families help he first became Asters assistant though it later its learned that a secret Ultimate D Card was stolen by Chazz's manager Chazz inlists Jadens help to retrieve the card while he and Aster duel to stall for time in the end Aster gets the card and we then have a proper duel ending with many sponsors wanting Chazz though we do see aster destiny heroes battling Chazz's Armed Dragon Ojama Union deck we do have a great match with the Ultimate D card being Destiny End Dragoon and Chazz pulling his Armed Dragon LV 10 and winning the match with his Ace Ojama Yellow.
5. Syrus/Sho vs Makoto Season 4 Ep 164 The Inherited Cyber Dark Deck
Hitting the top 5 we have a duel between dueling styles Cyber style vs Psycho/Jinzo Style we have Makoto a member of the Psycho style taking out members of the cyber style with him already defeating Shepard and going after a recovering Zane and while he can't continue the duel Syrus decides to take over for his brother and during the episode we learn the damage that Kaiser's heart took wasn't from the electrical shock bands in the underground duels but was from his own CyberDark deck. Sho begins to realizes it whenever he uses the deck and decides to make a new deck by combining his Vehicroid deck with the cyberdark deck creating a new one from it to battle Makoto and we see how the duel played out from the beginning when Makoto was dueling Zane but it then changes with Makoto using a Virus Jinzo destruction deck though Syrus would win the using powerbond and summoning Cyberdark dragon. When Syrus tries to return the Deck Zane tells his brother to keep it as he plans to start over and build a new deck and he wants his little brother help in creating a new pro league after he graduates and Zane recovers fully. A nice passing the torch and brotherly bonding episode.
6. Judai/Jaden vs Dr Crowler Season 4 Ep 167 Gratitude Duel Cronos vs the original Drop Out Boy
This duel we see that crowler is sabotaging his students from Graduating as he doesn't want to see them go to a point that Jaden has to get involved though we see how far both have come as we have cronos using his ancient gear deck in a interesting way having three gear golems and then fusing them into the Ultimate Gear Golem and Judai using his Elemental Hero Neo Spacian deck though the duel ends with a great throw back to how there first duel ended with Judai having Flame wingman and Cronos having his Ancient Gear Golem in Skyscraper. Though the funny moment is Judai being forced to catch up on all the tests and school work he missed out on or didn't do.
7. Asuka/Alexis vs Fubuki/Atticus Season 2 Ep 60 Pop goes the Duel
The next duel on the list is a brother vs sister duel with Fubuki wanting Asuka to join him as part of a singing dueling duo which Asuka doesn't want and we see Fubuki using a different deck then his Red-Eyes while Asuka uses her Cyber angels. The duel is an entertaining one with Fubuki fan girls and Asuka taking the duel seriously with her cyber angel smacking her bro.
8. Jaden vs Franz Season 2 Ep 85 Rah Rah Rah!
Taking the next spot is Jaden dueling Franz during the GX tournament and we see how a Jealous Card designer from I2 steals a Copy God Card which was created for Research Purposes and uses to win duels in the tournament forcing Pegasus and a returning chumley to appear and we get the Duel to see how Jaden stacks up to facing one of the three egyptian god cards though sadly we do see some call backs from plays Marik used though we do get to see new support for Ra and Jaden using a new card he got from Chumley though the duel does end poetically with Jaden reviving Ra to attack Franz.
9. Alexis/Auska vs Chazz/Manjoume season 1 Ep 47 Chazz-anova
The first duel between Chazz and Alexis is an interesting one where chazz develops a crush on alexis and wants to win her heart and he gets help from Atticus and with that he tries to earn her love through dueling with the stakes being the sacred keys though sadly for him it doesn't work out but I will say for a duel where chazz wasn't going all out its interesting seeing how he uses his Ojama's against Alexis and her Cyber Angel deck with an interesting combo.
10. Pegasus vs Dr Crowler and Bonoparte Yugioh Gx season 2 Ep 92 Duel for Hire
This duel is an interesting one while taking place during season 2 we see how far dueling has come with dr crowler and Bonoparte dueling the creator for Jobs at I2(Industrial illusions). We see how 2 people who have a grudge work somewhat together against Pegasus and his upgraded Toon deck.
I'm curious what your definition of filler is, for the yugioh gx anime preceded the manga (which tells a different story). You could have clarified if you meant that filler duels are the ones with no stakes, as one can infer from your opening statements.
Included that in the video description! There's also a link to a duel by duel designation of what's "filler" and "canon". This is just my opinion though as to your point, there isn't an official "filler" designation for the anime outside of Duel Monsters.
Filler battles can be the best, it can bring some of the more interesting duelists
How can you not put Lorenzo?? That episode was so funny, he is my second favorite right behind Dimitri
It didn't really stick in my mind, but looking back, I can totally understand ranking it in the top 10. It's definitely an entertaining one.
Hey, love the video, any chance of doing one when cards emerge come from anywhere…
All summonings
Hmm, can you clarify what you mean?
2:24 is it just me or does that look like toenail clippings to anyone else?
I wonder if we get elemental hero sparkwomen mentioned in the duel
Loved em all
I see what you did there with X lol
Something i just noticed about the curry duel is that feels out of place in the season shouldn't it have taken place after the white dorm was brainwashing everyone because its really hard to believe there are just no ra yellows at all
Thered better be chumli vs his dad on the list. Who doesn't love the dads domestic violence themed deck
Love that duel, but I don't personally consider it "filler" since it's integral to Chumley's arc.
What about Crawler vs Bonaparta? Or did you consider that too important?
I would say that's more important because the bonaparta has been butting head with crowler and planning to tear down the down all season plus it gave crowler some much needed character development
Yeah that one I considered "canon" (not filler) since it relates to a sub-plot of season 2 (of keeping the red dorm around). I do like the Crowler/Bonaparte dynamic though which is a reason why I ranked their duel versus Pegasus so high
@customcardguy that's very fair, great video mate!
01:04 That’s a lot of useless bricks.
I know the anime is infamous for playing fast and loose with card rulings, but Sho wouldn't have been able to beat Kagurazaka with his Jetroid with modern day rulings.
You mean the best _slice of life_ duels aka the best duels.
I love curry fiend
Also, I love madien deck
I love filler.
Why’s he saying judai
You mean all
