  • Here is a new video !!
This is a forgotten stove made around 1920 by the French company "Flamme bleue - Paris".
It was in very bad shape, some parts were broken and had to be re-made.
The label was so thin I couldn't do sandblasting so I use electrolytic pickling.
I needed a glass for the fire place but without a glass-cutter that wasn't easy. I finally made it... After a few attempts :/
Please watch till the end to see this 1920's stove in action !

You are an absolute creative genius in the 1960s my mum and I used to go to jumble sales they were filled with all kinds of old lamps we got an old heating stove and I repainted it but nothing like you did its truly wonderful to see these practical works of arts given new life .there is something so cosy and safe in them that i love seeing it brings back so many memories thank you again for creating these wonderful memories

These old stoves are super cool. I ended up with a smaller 2 wick sad iron heater/stove. Just cleaned mine up and replaced the mica and wicks, but yours turned out just gorgeous. The time you must have spent on it and the detail were totally worth it. Amazing job!

That "glass" was actually translucent Mica. Before heat-resistant glass was created, it was frequently used where a heat-resistant "window" was needed.
It is still available through places that specialize in antique stove and lantern restoration. It is hard to find, but it is out there.

Lab stores still sell it. Its used a lot in soft matter I know since you can peel it apart with a razor blade and get a nearly atomically flat surface, compared to glass at least.

    Bonjour TheFabrik,

Keep in mind that 'Flamme Bleue' means 'blue flame'. If the flame's yellow and sooty, you've turned up the wicks too high. They need to be trimmed flat, and adjusted so the flame is as blue - or blue with red tips as possible.

    • @TheFabrik
      @TheFabrik  Рік тому +6

      Yep you’re absolutely right 😌

    • @patrikhjorth3291

I was just about to comment that "hey, the flame isn't blue!", but that was really just to make a facetious joke.
It is correct, though, that a yellow flame means an inefficient burn, and could be helped by trimming the wick.
Thank you to @TheFabrik for sharing this beautiful restoration.

The only hint I could possibly offer you would be.
Get a flex shaft for your rotary tool...........
They make using it SO much easier and more controllable.
They are relatively inexpensive , well worth it in my opinion.
