Forgotten and broken 1920'S French stove "Flamme bleue" - restoration

- Here is a new video !!
This is a forgotten stove made around 1920 by the French company "Flamme bleue - Paris".
It was in very bad shape, some parts were broken and had to be re-made.
The label was so thin I couldn't do sandblasting so I use electrolytic pickling.
I needed a glass for the fire place but without a glass-cutter that wasn't easy. I finally made it... After a few attempts :/
Please watch till the end to see this 1920's stove in action !

These restoration videos with no talking are the best.
That was simply a fantastic restoration! I was impressed with the fabrication of new parts and how you saved the old ones. Thanks for sharing this incredible tutorial.

That was an amazing piece... 8bmean talk about 2 birds with 1 stone. Whilst camping you can have light, cook an keep the kettle hot..an a bit of warmth depending on situation...!!
You are an absolute creative genius in the 1960s my mum and I used to go to jumble sales they were filled with all kinds of old lamps we got an old heating stove and I repainted it but nothing like you did its truly wonderful to see these practical works of arts given new life .there is something so cosy and safe in them that i love seeing it brings back so many memories thank you again for creating these wonderful memories
Thanks a lot for these words Charles 😌🙏
These old stoves are super cool. I ended up with a smaller 2 wick sad iron heater/stove. Just cleaned mine up and replaced the mica and wicks, but yours turned out just gorgeous. The time you must have spent on it and the detail were totally worth it. Amazing job!
🙏 Thank you very much !!! I should have re-used the little piece of mica, instead of the glass...
very good looking appealing hands👍🏼
Excellent! Restorator and Chef in one person! Thanks for sharing!👍🏻
Thank you 🙌
Very good job my friend, old french stoves were very styled, one more saved thanks to you ! 💪😉
You're welcome !!! Still waiting for yours.... ;)
It is always amazing that you look beyond the junk factor to the finished work. Thank you for a new look at things that might ordinarily be discarded.
Many thanks James 😌🙌
Amazing! I truly had a hard time believing that this could end up being so beautiful. Few people would have even thought of restoring the stove. This shows you are a true artist and craftsman.
Hey Nancy thank you very much !!! Glad you enjoyed 😌🙌
That "glass" was actually translucent Mica. Before heat-resistant glass was created, it was frequently used where a heat-resistant "window" was needed.
It is still available through places that specialize in antique stove and lantern restoration. It is hard to find, but it is out there.
Yep Jim thanks for tbe infos I didn’t know that material... Actually I removed the glass to put the mica back in place 😌👍🏻
yes, fireplace shops have it.
When I saw it flexing out I thought... "Is that mica?"
Lab stores still sell it. Its used a lot in soft matter I know since you can peel it apart with a razor blade and get a nearly atomically flat surface, compared to glass at least.
Interesting, thank you for sharing! I did not know that mica had this type of use, I only knew about it being used powdered in paint etc.
I love to watch the craftsmanship and restoration of these classic pieces.
Well done, sir!
Thank you very much !!!
One of the prettiest metal things I’ve seen done! Loved this.
Wow thank you so much Lydia. Glad you enjoyed 🙌
When I started seeing this video I was convinced that this could never be a working piece again.
But you did an amazing restoration.
Beautiful piece.
Thank you for sharing this with us 👍❤️
Thank you !! 😌🙏
A very brilliant restoration and save of the old stove
Many thanks Tom 😌👍🏻
great work,a thought of a neat addition,,make up then install a shiny ,reflective parabola surface for the stove flame box at the rear,,,it would reflect heat and some light outwards
Oh well yes that would have been a very cool add ;) thanks a lot ! 😃🙌
Nice video but I love the motorbike 🏍😍
Hi mate thank you ! Yep it’s an old Terrot from 1953... Need a cool resto too ! 😃👍🏻
Hey man whoever edited your video tell them to keep it up and you keep restoring things. I love you 😘
I like the "Easter Egg" about how "Flamme Bleue" is similar to "Flambeau."
En Français, "Blue Flame" Sounds similar to "Torch."
You did a great job. I am impressed.
Thanks a lot !! 😌🙌
Merci !! 😃🙌
Quelle maîtrise! Great mate 👌🤗

Thank you very much !!!
Very fantastic job 👏
Yay, you managed to find some sulfuric acid. The nemesis of rust!
This stove is a beautiful and elegant piece. Impressive work saving it.
Many thanks !! 😌🙌

Another beautiful restoration of a fragile item. Thank you.
Thank you !!
That was just fascinating to watch ! WOW ! First time I've ever seen one of those tiny stoves. Beautiful job.
Not an easy Item to restore ! But you did great ! Yeah glass cutting is a bit tricky .. Have a great weekend !
Thanks a lot mate !! Yep I know😐First time I cut glass, too late to go buy a diamond wheel. Actually it should have been a piece of Mica...
BEAUTIFUL FINISH
That was absolutely beautifully done!!🥰
Thanks a lot 😊
Keep in mind that 'Flamme Bleue' means 'blue flame'. If the flame's yellow and sooty, you've turned up the wicks too high. They need to be trimmed flat, and adjusted so the flame is as blue - or blue with red tips as possible.
Yep you’re absolutely right 😌
I was just about to comment that "hey, the flame isn't blue!", but that was really just to make a facetious joke.
It is correct, though, that a yellow flame means an inefficient burn, and could be helped by trimming the wick.
Thank you to @TheFabrik for sharing this beautiful restoration.
Thank you for this video shot with much love for the detail. Absout beautiful to watch, not only on a winter evening in December. Many greetings from Hamburg🙂

Enjoyed the whole video, I love antiques! At the end I was confused as to how you lit the wick that was now inside the cone. hmm wish you had shown that. What a lovely piece!
Truly a beautiful restoration!
Thanks Mr. Fabrik. Such great work. I actually saw one of these fine old pieces on display at Le Train Bleu, a wonderful restaurant inside Gare de Lyon in Paris. It wasn't being used though. I had the sole that day with a nice Sancerre. Fantastic.

Thank you very much !!
Great work, every work is brilliant. Love it
The only hint I could possibly offer you would be.
Get a flex shaft for your rotary tool...........
They make using it SO much easier and more controllable.
They are relatively inexpensive , well worth it in my opinion.
Ok Jon thanks for the tip !!
Another AWESOME restoration!!
Brilliant restoration..
Thanks a lot 😌🙏
