- Protesters were seen in Yangon, Myanmar's largest city, practicing shield formations in preparations for clashes with police on Saturday.
Video obtained by Reuters showed anti-coup protesters practicing retreating and advancing with the makeshift shields, one of an increasing number of ways protesters have used to protect themselves from security forces.
Protesters have also used longstanding superstitions like the idea that it is bad luck to walk under women's clothing to stop police from charging at them.
Security forces have opened fire with stun grenades, rubber bullets and live rounds since the start of the coup in February, causing the deaths of more than 50 protesters, according to the United Nations.

@Intelligent Thanos great advice 'to protect yourself' considering what most burmese people has is probably a blunt knive while the military has their own snipper and doesn't hesitate to kill them even when they come in peace. Many victims get headshot shows how merciless the military. One in particular, had their head almost cracked opened, he was man in his late fifty I guess, other younger man also got headshot. I repeat this. This is what they got for doing peaceful protest. I can't fathom how many headshot will be fired if they do violent protest. heres a tip, put some padding inbetween a second layer, this makes it heavier, but easier to hold when it gets hit and makes it more sturdy

That is impressive... Imagine being the receiving side of this like people are coming with shields and forming a shield wall
reminds me a lot of what happened at the height of the the Sanrizuka Struggle happened back in the 80's. We're talking propper infantry formations, supply lines and battle order and tactics. During said struggle they even rioting side even built a fort with a tower and entrenchments.

For smaller bullet, atleast several layers of kevlar (expensive) or a composite acrylics.
Other materials (steel plate, concrete) is just to heavy.
But if for hiding, its possible to use a metal drum. Fill it with water, peble or sand.
i have a idea , put sand bag on cart with wheel . instead of everyone carry a shield, just a few cart infront is able to protect and you can push them around. no way for them get any ballistic shield.

The second the Anglo-saxons amassed a army, the vikings got defeated constantly. However, when a competent military leader, Alfred the Great took command, he beat the vikings with ease. The shieldwall was effective against archer fire, not so much hand to hand combat. -soak the wood and bend it to make a curve
-reinforce the curved wood with those aluminum or steel
- add a handle
- Add leather or cloth on handle
-make sure all the shield is the same size
-teach everyone how to lock down with shields
-keep practicing
they wont be bullet proof, but they will be rubber rounds proof and water resistant. should be strong enough to withstand a water cannon if you build the shield right.

if they double up corrugated sheet shields and angle them, they can withstand pistol calibers and most light loads. Damage done by full power rounds may be somewhat mitigated
@@crodsbye No, it is doubt that such metal sheet even when doubled and corrugated can stop a pistol round. Roman scrutum( Roman shield) that have hardened wood and a layer of armour can be pierced by bullet rounds, more so with this civillian custom made shields.

You dont shoot 125mm APFSDS on non armoured targets. They are just waste of ammo, money and doing almost nothing since APFSDS is basically an arrow travelling at speed higher than sound.

No riot shield is bullet proof, so making these light is very good for a long standoff. You'll never stop bullets anyway, and that's not what these are meant for.
Also, most historical shields were very thin, sometimes, mere milimeters.

To all the people saying that shields will not help against bullets. As a myanmar let me explain this to you. They are not idiots. They all know that. They just made these shields to protect against rubber bullets which might reach to the people behind them. If live ammunition were used the front rows holding the shields will sacrifice their lives. I am a Myanmar but I won't go to the front row against our brutal military. It's just my courage does not allow me. These guys are just crazy.
