A lot of people are missing the point. This is 1/10th to 1/15th the price of a standard home. Although he didn’t mention it he very well may have financed the build through the builder. Rent comps are $2-3,000 depending on size and location. Bonus is in 2020 California passed a law to where all properties can now have an ADU like this if there’s room.
I think you missed a few points yourself. He is lucky to have parents with land. Without this you are paying lot rent. Lot rent is FOREVER, mortgage is 30 years. This guy is young and family orientated and will likely want to start his own family. The tiny house will not be so desirable with kids long term and he will probably end up buying a house anyway. If homeownership is the end goal, dropping 90k on a TH when you could just buy a second hand caravan to live in for a few years while you save is setting yourself back even further. You would not want to live this way when you’re old. It’s okay when you’re 18-65, but after that you’re not going to want to have to crawl onto your bed. There would also be the lingering fear you could be kicked off your rented land at any time and have to find a new parking spot. I honestly think it’s a lot of money to drop on something that might only be temporary and won’t appreciate in value. That being said, his TH is lovely.
@@emusaurus Great points shared. However, I think that we also shouldn't underestimate the diversity in cost of living situations that this channel's audience has. Not everyone watching TH videos have the same goals in life. I'm so glad that this channel covered this person's specific siutation in Silicon Valley. I'd rather be discussing possibilities and options rather than how someone's cost of living should fit into someone else's.
I think youve majorly missed the more obvious point and that is that it just isn’t worth it to own a piece of the rock in California. Or even what sits on the rock. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should…
Teja was an amazing client who had great design ideas. We treat every build as if its personal and this tiny house will forever be remembered as one of our top favorites. Thanks again Teja and of course Tiny House Giant Journey for documenting this chapter of our Tiny House manufacturing growth!

very true. the problem is with local state federal governments in most areas. The problem with homelessness is not actual housing. The issue is with the person that is homeless and keeping that person accountable in following treatment guidelines, taking meds, going to AA meetings, going to counseling and medical appointments. Taking care of themselves, and their apartment or tiny home. We all need support, help and also accountability.
not everyone who is homeless is an alcoholic, drug addict or has mental health issues. sometimes all it takes is the loss one pay check or a job. been there, done that. (thankfully, not anymore)
Thanks for all the positive comments everyone--and thank you Jenna and the M+M team for featuring me. Tiny living isn't for everyone but I found myself in a unique situation and chose to move closer to my family after a few years in other places in order to help out during the lockdown and still have my own space. Whenever I decide to move out I will probably convert my space into a legal Air BnB or rental unit. Or maybe I'll just give it to my brother. Or maybe I'll take it with me and put it on land elsewhere. Who knows! My parents were actually looking into building an ADU on a foundation which would have cost 2x-3x the price of my tiny home on wheels in our area. We found a solution that worked for both of us. I bought the tiny house, they let me use the space. And yes, I realize I'm extremely fortunate to be able to park it on their property! Teja, your TH is lovely and you did a very professional job of the TH tour 👍👍. Don't live in US so sadly not a potential client 😊. Reading the comments, I am glad you shared your TH on UA-cam. Your parents are very lucky and so are you. How long did the build take from start to finish, just curious?
This tiny house is ideal for urban living. Teja & the builders designed the best for his lifestyle. It's amazing that he has his own home, & all the yard is co-living space. I hope his parents are enjoying having both of their sons near during this season. I found myself being very happy for Teja's situation.
As a San Jose native who was pushed out of my home the Bay Area due to housing costs rising and is now living somewhere the exact same thing is happening to the natives in my new home, it is very encouraging to hear that San Jose which has been known for eons (California generally) as being overly restrictive to new building has taken such an innovative approach to supporting its citizens. I am now a senior on a limited income who still struggles with affordable housing where I need to be. I could live my life out very happily in such a situation. I see implications for seniors, homeless, children who want to be there for aging parents, benefits to both land owners and the average working man. Win win win.
Beautiful tiny house! It really is a great way to have an affordable custom home in an otherwise cost prohibitive area. Also, it's lucky that for now you can park it comfortably on your parent's property -- that's a huge cost saver, too!
How about instead of encouraging a trend of cramming people into increasingly tiny, miserable living spaces we just build more normal sized houses and start fixing the economy. This is worse than a commie block apartment, how anyone can act like capitalism is innocent is beyond me.
What an absolutely wonderful idea. A young person not living with his parents but close enough to help each other out and see the parents as often as he wishes. I can tell a great person from a great family.
Beautiful home and I love that he gets to be close to family. Multi generational living is the answer to generational wealth and mental health support.

This is so awesome 😻 I'm from the Bay Area and have been living here for about 37 years now. I love all things tiny homes and have been following several tiny home channels including this one for well over a year now. Seeing how he made it all work and with such a well executed design makes me feel inspired because no matter how much I'd dream of my own tiny house I know living in the Bay Area is close to nearly impossible because of the cost of living I didn't know San Jose passed a new law in 2020 for tiny home living. His space looks so perfect and I've seen many tiny home videos but this is one of the more higher end, luxurious and clean spaces. Thank you for sharing and inspiring tiny home living for local dreamers like myself
This perfect..thanks young man for sharing our beautiful & loving home with us. Your parents are proud of you...a gift. I myself being bayarea resident &:having optometry medical issue keep up research. Blessing 🙏.
WOW an ADU and Legal Omgooderness that is Awesome! The added bonus its on your parents property. I like it and this makes me consider this as an option. Purchasing is Not in reach for many, and rent is crazy high these days. Owners keep going up on rent and people's income is the same. Newsflash NO ONE'S INCOME HAS INCREASED, ITS NOT HAPPENING! You were definitely Blessed to get this setup. Thanks for sharing!
A lovely home, a lovely guy, a super adorable dog. What more could you ask for?! Great details and careful thought, plus making a space for the things that matter to you. Perfect!
Teja's furbaby is gorgeous. He is just so smart and you can see he is so loved. Lol ok so back to the "tiny"... well it is very well suited for him and his lifestyle, very nice and great spot too. You can't go wrong being parked on family's land.
You did a really great job with your home!! It's beautiful! Not only that but you helped paved the path a lil bit for other people in your area who would like to live the tiny living lifestyle, which is super cool!!
This is what I want to do! I live about an hour and a half from him and the average cost for a home 🏡 here is $700,000. It’s insane and almost impossible for a single person to buy a home! Beautiful job!!! Congratulations 🎉 on making tiny home 🏡 history!!!💕
Pretty incredible especially considering how freaking expensive bay area is to live. Makes total sense to go tiny. Usually i don't care for mod design aesthetics, but his works so well with all the artistic, nerdy, and pop culture touches it makes it more fun instead of sterile. Love it!
i’ve watched hundred of tiny home pieces but I must say I enjoyed this one the most, the speaker was an outstanding communicator and the beautiful touches like the 4 ceiling home depot lights the jeopardy framed article the turn table and he sky light the plants gave this home such a warm feel thank you
Very well designed. Very small space that works out perfectly for what he needs. I love the outdoor living space. That's something I will do. Good job!
I have a friend who bought a house in San Jose when she worked at Apple coding for the very 1st iPhone. Her house was crumbling, small & in a questionable neighborhood but it was still almost $400k even then. Her house is worth over a million today, which is crazy.
Absolutely, I live in the SF east bay ( San Jose is south of us) and years ago people moved out here from the city because it was the most affordable; now a home can go for 1.5m. I think Cali needs to embrace more tiny homes especially with the homelessness issue but I think its a more resourceful way to live.
You two will enjoy this blast from the past: when my husband and I were thinking of buying a home in 1966, we looked at a new development in San Jose called Yum Yum Homes, tacky tract houses being built in a former orchard, at about $13K. We decided to move up to Seattle, where we found a classic 2 BR bungalow for $14K instead. (Sold it in the 80's for $140K.) Those homes in SJ are now going for $1.3 million. I've never regretted my choice, even though I see that our little 1910 house hasn't yet broken a million.
@@chezmoi42 My husband and I met in San Jose, and he was raised in the east foothills. His parents bought a home there for $16,950 in 1968. It was a quarter acre lot and they sold it for $50K in 1977. In 1978, the home was valued at $100K. And it just started climbing from there.
@@Jules1280 Exactly. We bought our Capitol Hill classic box in 1975 for $35K, and it was valued at $344K when we left in '92. It's a shame wages for most folks haven't kept up with prices.
@@chezmoi42 My husband and I left in '93 to live in Iowa. Still here but want to move to a warmer state. The winters here are hard on my aging body. LOL!
What a beautiful home! And I love the lights you have over the walkway between the main house and yours. The slider that opens either side is perfect! And the skylight over the bed which gives you view of the stars and headroom is clever as well. I noticed the cabinets in the kitchen seem standard height; one thing that bothers me a little about tiny homes is the height of everything, as it’s seemingly lower than tall people could be comfortable with. (Ok, me). Height is a factor of course when you have a loft….Thank you for sharing the tour for us! It’s helpful!
It’s such an oasis with this comfortable TH in the backyard of his family home. It’s the ideal situation where you can enjoy your privacy while still has close interaction with your family!
I think this is the best tiny home channel of all. So much is unique and creative. Also the people are so likable! Good folks. This inspires me in so many ways! You certainly put in a lot of work to find all these gems. This home was most useful for me in the mechanics and the placement of systems. Taking notes! It reminds me of a manufactured line out now called Park Homes! His version is on steroids!!! The dog has excellent taste and chose the best seat in the house. Kudos! I can’t physically manage a loft, but the sky light with the added height is a great idea anyway! So much about this is unique. I like, on the way to closing the interview, the glorious lighting hung as a canopy over the walk way. Also the fruit trees!!! Thanks to the homeowner and to the channel!
I live in the Bay Area and I’d love to have something like this. There’s just no good place to park it unless you’re in a situation like this where your family already has land.
This is a really efficient and nicely done tiny home for Teja. I would love a tiny home, with a bit more space and more windows. I do lots of crafts and lots of natural light is a must. I would love to be back in CA somewhere on or very near the ocean in a tiny home, living off the land as much as possible. I was just thinking about a tiny home in CA earlier today, wondering if there are any tiny home communities or any properties where people would consider allowing a tiny home in CA. I've come to realize I certainly don't need all the space of an overly large home. And...I would rather be walking around in short sleeves, tending a garden I planted, watching my dog(s) run about, while the cats are curled up on window seats (or wherever they want to be) inside, than be bundled up in 5 layers shivering my butt off in the middle of a down pour on the 30th grey day in a row....
Very cool house - so well thought out. The layout flows so well. Also, so glad to see more and more cities in California finally getting on board with tiny house and ADU codes to help ease the housing crunch.
Wow what a beautifully built home and wonderful inspiration for thousands of people in the Bay Area who would welcome a TH as an incredible living option as Teja did. Kudos Teja, Forever Tiny Homes, City of San Jose, and Tiny House Giant Journey!
The home he created is beautiful! It’s only draw back for me is, there is no real living room with seating for only one. But, he is the sole occupant so obviously it works great for him. Cheers
I'm sure you can re-configure that. Not everyone would want the desk/table space (tho so nice how it was set up - and could be folded down). If you follow many of the tiny home builders its amazing to see how many creative configurations people come up with in tiny spaces!!!
@@Lealelan I completely agree!! That is one of the reasons why I am addicted to watching videos on tiny homes; all the ingenious things people come up with! Cheers

Thank you for sharing and inspiring tiny home living for local dreamers like myself
I'm so glad to hear that, Ana!!
This perfect..thanks young man for sharing our beautiful & loving home with us. Your parents are proud of you...a gift. I myself being bayarea resident &:having optometry medical issue keep up research. Blessing 🙏.
Beautiful home. Thanks for the tour. Continued BLESSINGS.
Very well thought and done, lovely, love it😊
A lovely home, a lovely guy, a super adorable dog.
Simply in love with these tiny houses! 👍🏻
and I´m in love with the owner and his dog! ; )
You did a really great job with your home!! It's beautiful! Not only that but you helped paved the path a lil bit for other people in your area who would like to live the tiny living lifestyle, which is super cool!!
Nice tiny house. Thanks Jenna for sharing his story.👍👍❤
This is what I want to do! I live about an hour and a half from him and the average cost for a home 🏡 here is $700,000. It’s insane and almost impossible for a single person to buy a home! Beautiful job!!! Congratulations 🎉 on making tiny home 🏡 history!!!💕
Absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day.
Teja has great personality and it echos thru his delightful tiny ❤
I just can’t imagine living that close to my parents. Kudos to him for finding a solution that works for him.
OMG Your moms is soooo happy that you are home! 😊
Very smart man. It's great to see that San Jose is doing the tiny home movement.
This is a really beautiful tiny home. And Teja is so charming!
Very well designed home, so many excellent and well thought out choices. Great eye for design elements like the pendants downstairs.
Yeah yeah, the house looks awesome but can we just admire how BEAUTIFUL Indy is! Lol Ughhhh I want her!! 😩 😍😍😍
Pretty incredible especially considering how freaking expensive bay area is to live. Makes total sense to go tiny. Usually i don't care for mod design aesthetics, but his works so well with all the artistic, nerdy, and pop culture touches it makes it more fun instead of sterile. Love it!
So Adorable 💕
Ahhhhh, I LOVE your Indy!!! My Prince looks like her.... he is my life!!!!
This is a beautiful and well designed tiny home. The price is awesome too.
i’ve watched hundred of tiny home pieces but I must say I enjoyed this one the most, the speaker was an outstanding communicator and the beautiful touches like the 4 ceiling home depot lights the jeopardy framed article the turn table and he sky light the plants gave this home such a warm feel thank you
Thanks for the kind words!
Very well designed. Very small space that works out perfectly for what he needs. I love the outdoor living space. That's something I will do. Good job!
Wow😍💕even his house🏡 is brilliant like his mind. Love it❤️
Progress!! Glad to see San Jose (my home town) on the map for such a momentous occasion! ❤🏠❤
Really nice and congratulations on breaking that barrier 🎉🎊🎉
LOL!
Your home is absolutely beautiful ❤️
Great presentation, and a really nice house.
Love his design style, music choices and the pup 🥰
Gorgeous house.
One of the best tiny homes I've seen. Awesome.👍🏾
I love the fact it’s on wheels because if you ever want to relocate you can take your house with you
Wonderful tiny house! Great to share a space with his family but have his own home!
Best of the Best I've seen....Simple ...but yet elegant!
It's really pretty on the inside.
Very cool house - so well thought out. The layout flows so well. Also, so glad to see more and more cities in California finally getting on board with tiny house and ADU codes to help ease the housing crunch.
this is great. good luck with your endeavors.
Beautiful. Outstanding. Best wishes.
What a beautiful space! A great solution for the current zoning laws. Hopefully they change soon though to go beyond single family zoning for houses.
This is a very well planned out little home
The clear purple gameboy! I had the same one! Really thoughtful design process Teja. Thanks for sharing dude
Wow what a beautifully built home and wonderful inspiration for thousands of people in the Bay Area who would welcome a TH as an incredible living option as Teja did. Kudos Teja, Forever Tiny Homes, City of San Jose, and Tiny House Giant Journey!
You have a lovely home. Enjoy it to the full.
@@Lealelan
I completely agree!! That is one of the reasons why I am addicted to watching videos on tiny homes; all the ingenious things people come up with!
Cheers
great tiny! simple & beautiful & such practical layout... it's not too big or too grand and didn't cost much unlike some other tinies I've seen-- which is actually the point of living tiny.
Teja, I Love your Tiny House......
Thumb's up to Teja! This is beautiful.
Love it chilled guy great life style
Very nice layout & hey 🤷♀️ sharing that oasis of a back yard with Family is awesome 👍
That Alex Trebek bit made me so happy for some reason. Glad he got the chance to be on there. This house fye though
Really a great tiny home…thanks for sharing 🎉
Awesome and Hanuman is blessing his home.
Kia ora.
Like to see how people design things for themselves. Cool the house is set a precedent as a legal tiny.
