    ATTENTION: To all those who failed doing this. Did it 4x, the first 3 tries I did it the way the vid. told me to, then the 4th try I did it my way. I waited until it turned red on the pan, coz if I took it out right after it turns golden yellow I noticed the sugar doesn't melt well, then I took it out. Don't wet it afterwards or rather wet your hands while touching it, I didn't even touch it, I just poured it down on a bowl and then played with it using my spoon until I know it wasn't that sticky/runny. Then I took a small piece of it to check if it's ok, then rolled it in my hands until it's the same texture as the vid. Now I was able to use it on my auntie.. XD

    I think I have finally found the right combo that has worked for me. I have a glass marble cutting board. All I did was put the board into the freezer while the mixture was boiling. Adding water to the marble did nothing but make the mixture too loose and watery, so freezing it is a better way to help it not stick. Also I mixed it on the marble and waited until it was very cooled down to start stretching it. I've had success every time since then. I can confidently make it whenever I need to. Hope this helps !! :)

      Aliyyaa I put mine in the freezer now because it worked for one minute and then just started sticking to everything. And wetting my hands didn't help because then I couldn't wax my legs properly (the wax just slided over my legs). let's hope it's just a temperature thing, like my hands were too warm or something. I got so close!! :(

    • @aliyyaa431
      @aliyyaa431 9 років тому +3

      katleenvdbossche Yes, it is a temperature thing. I don't wet my hands now either. I just make sure I have some ice cubes nearby and I use that to make my hands really cold. Adding water to your hands makes the sugar too runny if you use too much.

    • @katleenvdbossche
      @katleenvdbossche 9 років тому +3

      Omg yes!! And off course, the stickier it gets the more water I have to use to get it off my hands and then it gets even more runny etc etc. I tried making it again but it was even worse because I kept using water on my hands. I've put it on some plastic and put it in the fridge... We'll see tomorrow. Otherwise I'll start over and use your ice cube-trick :) thanks!!

    you can apply sugaring over the same spot multiple times. i went to cosmetology school and im a licensed cosmetologist. they taught us about sugaring in school and our books taught us that with normal waxing its way too abrasive so you cannot go over it more than once but with suagring it much more gentle on the skin allowing you to be able to go over soots more than once if hairs are missed.

    Here is a helpful tip to some. Lemon juice helps to slow the caramelization process. Try cooking without the lemon juice and then once it gets close to the desired color add the lemon juice. This also may help with some of the consistency issues.

  • @Siderea
    @Siderea 10 років тому +17

    Recipe (in case you don't feel like going through the video etc.) Hope this helps people~
    1 cup of sugar
    1/5 cup of water
    1 teaspoon of salt
    2-3 teaspoons of lemon juice
    Directions: Combine the ingredients in a saucepan and heat the mixture until a golden yellow color.
    Once it achieves the golden yellow color, remove from heat and pour it onto a marble surface that has been made wet with some water (or into a tray like thing LOL).
    Continuously pull in the edges and kind of form a small mound. Wet your hands and scoop up the wax into your hands (be careful because it will be hot/warm).
    While you are stretching it, wet your hands so that it doesn't stick to you.
    When finished stretching the wax so that it achieves a level of elasticity, take the amount of wax needed and store the rest in plastic wrap and put in the refrigerator.
    Pull your skin tightly/taut and apply it on the desired spot against the growth of your hair three times and flick in the opposite direction. (Learned this from Pop sugar beauty's video on sugaring)

    its hardly painful! i have deep rooted and im a hairy spanish person lol. I have been using sugar wax over a year!!!! I love it. Ill never buy wax again. I have made three cups thats literally lasted a year. I will never wax my armpits with any other wax bc with sugar wax it doesnt stick to skin so theres way less pain. I can just wash it away even whenit gets on the floor or carpet. I love it but i needed the recipe bc mine lasted a year and i wanted to double check the portions lol

    • @DianavonLindenthal
      @DianavonLindenthal 8 років тому +5

      +Soniya Jhan it's really trial and error the first few times. try boiling it until it gets brown in colour, but careful not to burn it. add less lemon juice and water than is shown here (I added about 1 TS of lemon and a 2 of water).
      once you pour it out of the pan, leave it to cool for a few minutes and bring in the edges with a spoon. if you let it cool, you can handle it without having to wet your hands too much, which would turn everything to a sticky mess (happened to me the first 2 times).
      then get on with the kneading.
      good luck!

    • @soniyajhan9875
      @soniyajhan9875 8 років тому

      Thank you for replying :)
      But I didn't get the part when u said " 1tbs salt and 2 water" u mean two tbs water?? Or two cups.
      Also in the video she said cook it until it's golden but you said brown,is urs looks and works the same as this video?

    • @DianavonLindenthal
      @DianavonLindenthal 8 років тому +3

      Soniya Jhan 1 table spoon of lemon juice and 2 table spoons of water.
      i cooked it golden and it was way too runny and gooey in the end. so, by cooking it until it got amber colored, it worked just like shown in the video. careful though, you can burn it really easily.

    Yess finally got the wax right on the fourth try! In case anybody wanted to know, my past failures were because I put too much water in the baking pan, so when I stretched the wax it was slimy and not flexible. To fix this I just put a little water in the baking pan, spread it out, then poured out any excess. Came out great!

    How it WORKED for me:
    I had to use TWO cups of sugar instead of one. I think the problem is that 1/4 cup water is too much so using less with one cup of sugar, I think will work. I also let it sit for about 3 minutes before trying to scoop it up. I found myself reheating the wax after it would get hard. My first time waxing! Hope this helps.

    • @silviamendoza5658
      @silviamendoza5658 10 років тому

      Good :) I also found that the exact measurements of salt and lemon are important, I tried it with one cup of sugar but with a little bit of water and it worked better than my first try, the stickiness lasted a lot longer.

    Pro tip: If you're waxing a place with relatively long hair/a lot of nerve endings, (coughpubescough) be sure to shave a couple days before and only wax the stubble. That way, it'll grab the hair at the very base and it will pull out faster/less painfully, instead of grabbing it at the end and ripping it out

  • @DreamingInInk423
    @DreamingInInk423 10 років тому +9

    I didn't let it boil long enough, so it isn't hard BUT it works perfectly with wax strips. So if yours was wax consistency but not hard like hers, it can still work :)

    Guys just put it in a glass or ceramic bowl. I don't know why the counter worked for her but it's not a must. Just put it in a bowl and let it cool for a bit until you're ready to use it. At least that's what I do and it works.

And I'm also looking for it can you also tell me how to use it??? Please Please Please !!!!

    • @nova707ha
      @nova707ha 9 років тому +2

      Nuzhat Batool Well the important ingredients are the same water sugar and lemon (3cup of sugar 1cup of water half a lemon 1tsp flower water) the flower water is just to smooth the skin so if you don't you don't need to put it (mix the water and sugar before heating it) theput it on medium heat and add the lemon juice then after it boils remove it (you can add the water flower here) and wait until it cool then use if it get hard don't put it in a microwave that's wrong (just like melting chocolate put the shira on a bowel and put hot water under it and just when it become less harder remove it don't let it melt and use your hand to make it softer and then take a little from it and use it and when it become sticky add a little water to it

    after reading all the comments ~ just tried making this, using the 2 tbsp water and 2 tbsp lemon juice, also used a dinner plate to pour and cool. Came out great. Easy to clean. i also noticed that there is lemongrass oil in the lemon juice concentrate i was using which helps keep very pliable so i used a drop of oil on palms to keep it from becoming too sticky ~ thank you everyone

    Looks pretty interesting. I would def like to try this.
    I was thinking, instead of pouring the wax directly off the stove onto a marble surface and then into your hands.. could it be easier to pour it into a cup or small bowl, which is placed in cold or ice water?
    That way its grouped together and won't damage any surfaces or burn your hands.

    *I have been epilating for years and it was time to replace my 5-year-old Emoji unit. After doing research, I settled on this one for speed and ease of use. It performs brilliantly! This has cut my epilating time down by two thirds at least. The unit is pretty large, designed mainly for legs. I used it on my armpits without a problem either, but I wouldn't recommend trying facial or intimate epilating with this one. Some people have complained that it doesn't have a light, but that wasn't a concern for me. The fact that it is a plug-in rather than battery-driven unit was perhaps the greatest selling point for me since it means it will last for years to come. The quality of the build is clear here. Highly recommended if you experienced at epilating.*

      Quintia Simmons it does work, but be careful and first test on a small patch on the bikini area, then go deeper if it works. for this area, as the hair is thicker, I strongly recommend that you first pour baby powder (or talc, or corn starch) on the hairs, and remove excess, and then put the wax on. it will be much more easy to the wax to grab on the hair, believe me, because sweat can lead to a poor grab, you know? good luck!

      Ameiaru You're not inserting it into the vagina. I pray you're not thinking of waxing anymore that the outer lips. The ph has to do with what goes on inside of the vagina, not something like waxing the outer lips occasionally. And then there is soap and water to remove any residue.

    So I just made this!
    The first time i did it, everything was going right until i had to play with it! I wet my hands too often. it became gooey and got every where!
    the second time i hardly added any water! I loooooooove the results. The waxing does hurt but the pain is ok. For some reason I didn't get as much wax as she did.

    I've seen this done so many different ways and thought I'd give this way my first shot... In one video I watched it showed a hard wax and a soft wax.. after following your video to a "T" I ended up with a soft wax... (kind you'd put a thin layer of on your skin and rip off with a waxing strip or cloth) when I tried running water on my hands in attempt to "cool/harden' the wax it just got mushy and ended up with half of the amount of wax as I cooked... so I put it in a glass jar and popped it in the freezer. hope that does something I can work with. I really don't like soft wax and was so happy to find this "hard" wax as an alternative. will post again if freezer worked... If not then anyone watching this needs to know they should get a candy thermometer heat to 120 C, and proly watch 5 other how to videos to see what all three of them are doing the same...

      freezer fail... better off going to store getting waxing strips or better yet go to salon and get sugar wax done if you want it that bad...

    • @attackoncake4851
      @attackoncake4851 9 років тому

      Exactly. Caramelized sugar is very hard to control and so much can go wrong. Great vid if you need to wax a small part of your body, but larger areas not so much. Salon or wax strips is a better solution.

    A lot of people are saying they failed. It's not just about filling the recipe. It's also about the pand you use. Not sure what pan she has or what it's made of. But the type of pan you use makes a huge difference. When I was in culinary, I made caramel perfect first attempt. At home I did the same exact thing. It never set no matter how long I boiled it. Turns out stainless steel (what we used at school) delivered heat better vs my Paula Deen nonstick pots from Walmart. Not saying this will solve it, but it may help

    I tried it for the first time and it worked! You just have to get the right consistency. For a person like me who haven't tried waxing before and did this method for the first time, I must say that the pain is tolerable. This is great! Thank you!

    You can actually buy a huge can of sugar wax for two bucks at my local beauty store. Since I'm in college and don't usually have a lot of time on my hands, the store-bought version is usually my go-to. But over the summer I tried your DIY and I ended up liking your formula better the the store-bought formula! Your version was a lot less painful and lasted a lot longer. I genuinely wish I had the time to make this sugar wax more often! I've got fast-growing hair too. I loved your video!

      You have to put your booty in the freezer for 10 hours until it's numb, then you may pour the hot wax on your booty. It won't hurt because you can't feel your booty. It will still leave blisters but you can fix those by using ointment. Hope I helped!! :) P.S. I learned this tip from personal experience.

      i couldn't do it like she does on the video but i pur it into a glass jar when its hot (heat the jar in hot water first so the chances it explodes are smaller) and then i let it cool for a couple of hours and when i want to use the sugarwax i put the jar into a hot water bath so the wax softens just enough to allow you to take a bit out of the jar, then stretch the ball you are going to use.. the sugar hardens when you let it cool in the jar :)

    Waxing does not prevent ingrown a and bumps. Also the technique in this video is sugaring. She should not have reapplied the sugar to the same area multiple times. Sugaring exfoliates. Meaning it's taking skin with it every pass. Her technique may cause hyperpigmentation, in other words the skin will darken in response to repeated abuse to the same area.

      Lupe Guerrero a cup of sugar, a cup of water & a spoon of lemon juice. Heat them tgt until the sugar melts & the liquid starts to get brownish. With a spoon take a little bit of the liquid & put it on a cold surface until it gets cold & u can pick it up with ur fingers. Squeeze it with ur fingers, if it's still not hard enough let it heat some more & try again and if it's too hard and u can't squeeze it easily put some water into the mixture. When it become hard enough but still easy to squeeze put the mixture on a plate (dont use anything plastic) and let it cool down then gather it with a spoon and start molding it in ur hand until it become like the one in the video and then start using it. I hope this helped :)

    I have tried 7 times but I still can't get it to work I take it out of the pan and I fold the corners in but when I put it in my hands it just sticks to me and is like a honey mixture. I am not sure if my mix is right or how long I boil it or when do put it in my hands :( :(

    Water DOESN'T dissolve wax! This is really important! If you let true wax (as in wax made from oils) get down your drain, it'll get stuck inside the pipes and clog them! This 'wax' isn't actually a wax at all, as there are no oils in it, it's just that sugar gets sticky when it is melted. Sugar is dissolved by water, but wax isn't!

      Thank you for your comment! What I refer to as 'WAX' in this video is SOLELY the SUGAR WAX i'm making, NOT any other. It is a very good point you brought up, because people should keep that in mind and not take it as a generality. Thank you!

    THANK YOU! So many of my friends have thin or blonde hair. The struggle of dark hair and lots of it is unreal.

      Jennan327 same. I’m so annoyed. I followed her instructions exactly and both times I ended up having to use a thin towel as a wax removing strip because the consistency never got right/it never turned into a pliable, elastic ball 😡 never making this recipe for sugar wax again, it was terrible

    Didn't work, too liquidy. I tried it again using less liquid and still way to liquidy. Waste of ingredients

      When ur cooking it make sure u have a cold glass of water and occasionally drop a little of the mixture in it or u can us the sink just put ur spoon under the faucet. if the sugar hardens in a ball at the bottom take it and try to stretch it with your fingers or on the spoon. Make sure it's not to slippery or to hard that it wont budge. it has to have a stretchy constancy like taffy. Then ur done. Also to make things less messy put it in a heat safe container with a lid that u can put your hands in to take some out. If u only have plastic containers ur going to have to get a big bowl, run cold water in it and to place the container in, to cool it off don't get the water inside ur wax. Once ur sure it wont melt the plastic stick it in the fridge or let it sit for an hour before use.
