      @q1k9i3l0ä5å No many of the things he's saying sound simple but get very deep very fast. To actually let some of the stuff sink in (versed in a bit of music theory or not) I've def looked through a couple times to refresh memory.

    Playing reggae with any instruments especially the bass guitar is really simple. You have to feel the beat in your soul and you will get the rythmn of the chords.

    I really love your approach to teaching Jamaican bass lines: giving new players the tools and rhythmic approach to create their own--teaching them how to fish for themselves, so to speak. I have been playing Jamaican bass since the early 1980s. I took a 10-year break from bass to play "ethnic" drums and flute, and I have recently returned to brush the rust off. Despite my long background in Jamaican pop and spiritual music, I found your video enlightening.

    Thank you for this! I usually just play by ear. Just started getting into learning scales and such. Its one of the first times I have REALLY understood things like triad major and minor shapes and how to create bass lines that aren't just following a guitar playing quarter notes. Also learned a little about playing guitar reggae style too. Great video!

    I went through dozens of "how to play reggae" vids and this is the first one that actually demonstrates and lays out what is going on. All the others kept repeating "you've just gotta feel it mon!" and as this guy proves, there's reasons behind those feelings and there's technique required to achieve reggae sound. Many thanks

    Good job, I played and toured in a hardcore band called TREE out of Boston in the 90s. I recently got into the Cali Roots reggae scene. Loving the groove of it all. Just got a drum set too so I’m learning reggae drums too. Ha! Check out the song. “River guide you” by The Movement. • @JohnJesus
      @JohnJesus  8 років тому +4

      Thanks Jayson.
      In my teens I developed a passion (should I say obsession) for Bob Marley and his music. It was all I wanted to do when I grabbed the guitar. Singing came later. Then I had the opportunity to study music in London - and that is what I did. There I learned a lot and developed technique and knowledge -- on the guitar and bass. I worked on my first album called The MessAge (released in 2011) for about 3 years! That is a lot of time ahaha. Since June this year I have been working on my second album, and it is almost ready. The official release will be sometime in the beginning of next year.
      Simply put, I love making music -- especially reggae -- and the time that I have spent doing it has brought me to the level that I am today.
      When I finish the album I will be dedicating more time to make more videos: tutorials and covers. Make sure you subscribe to the channel to be notified of new videos!
      Thanks!
