    I've been kind of confused about my personal style lately between coming out of the pandemic, a career change, and trends around me shifting and changing. I've been thinking that my life needs now, my personality, current trends, and what looks good on me wouldn't come together. Going through your worksheets have helped put together how all of these different points can start to come together. It won't be easy to put together, but I'm taking that as a sign I'm finding the core of me and not just how my job or current trends say to dress.

    I loved this approach and creating a "moodboard" was so fun! I realized there are three distinct styles I'm drawn to, and I can translate them to "party", "work" and "casual" styles which is absolutely amazing. Now I only need to realize how I can implement them... :,)

      Implementing all my tastes into one cohesive personal style has been the hardest part of my journey to acquire a personal style

    • @tessarae9127
      @tessarae9127 Рік тому +3

      @@JadedForAlwaysI mean, I don’t think it’s super necessary for them to all be the same thing, but rather to have elements from one aspect kind of “bleed over” into elements of the other aspects 💭
      Like I think these styles are so some extent applicable to everyone.
      For me my work and casual clothes have less distinction. So lets say my casual clothes are vintage / cottagecore ish, and work clothes are kind of either super modern businesswear (silk blouse with khakis in some form) or dark academia.
      Then party wear is bright colors and revealing.
      To bridge the gap I’ll take elements of vintage style and incorporate it in the others- So for clubwear maybe opting for lace and frilly details but the piece will be distinctly too revealing to wear in the other contexts.
      OR incorporating a more modern look to vintage silhouettes, by having a long below the knee a-line dress that also has funky cutouts.
      Dressing things down is easy IMO so much of my clothes are kind of business casual or fancier; pairing any dress with a fanny pack and tennis shoes or sneakers effectively dresses it down as does wearing almost any top with bike shorts.
      I think accessories become so critical in bridging the gap too; I have pieces that are pretty iconic for me that I use in all occasions, dressed up, dressed down, dressed right, dressed left, dressed backwards lol 😝
      What I’m saying is those accessories can really be used to define you. A pendant necklace with a symbol that speaks to you can be worn dressy or casual; a statement bracelet people will begin to see as “yours” and so it doesn’t matter what context you wear it in it becomes signature. Same with shoes, like “oh there’s their classic yeezys” (or whatever shoes lol idk)
      Either way kind of blurring the lines is the key I think to there being less distinction between each different way you need to show up in your life 💭
      And taking that personal history of influences should influence that decision!!!

      Hi! Thanks for this explanation. Love your advice. After I wrote the comment, I did Gabrielle’s moodboard exercise and came to a similar conclusion. I enjoyed hearing about your tastes. Luckily, I know what I like in terms of fashion. I generally know what colors do not work on me.
      I have classic and natural tastes. When I say natural, I mean simple, made to last materials. A good t-shirt and bootcut-leg pant/dark jean. I’m into certain bold pieces like leather, dark near-knee high laced boots I love the look of dainty clothes, but feel like I’m playing pretend when I wear them.
      I wear my hair curly and love a good Diana Ross big hair moment. I follow the fingertip rule when it comes to hemlines + I don’t do crop tops. V necks and wraps complement me. Super into pops of color showing up in the outfit. Thin vertical stripes here and there.
      People sensing who I am through my clothes is the dream - I’ll feel like I did my job well. Most of my time is spent at work (business casual too) or doing outdoor activities like runs, bike rides, rollerblading, etc.
      I’ll begin trying to combine elements of my style interests in casual dressing. Casual is the hardest form of dress for me, personally. I never know what to wear. I end up in athleisure or jeans and a shirt (which is terrible in the summer).

I made my first style board during the winter and it is a great tool to dig into memories and causes. Going to work on your templates. I feel it's the way to bring things from subconscious into the life. It's so valueble to me, as I got lost among my classical upbringing, France and Arabia periods of life. I have a degree in English and French and in religious studies. I live in one of the biggest European cities in the world with my hus and 3 small kids. I like soft piano music, Le ptite prince and gold and ethereally long dresses. I am not sure with religion but am ready to stand by its moral and legal code. This is an amazing! Thank you so much for providing these worksheets and steps to finding our personal style! I have one question: for the 'History list' do we list down any style inspirations we saw when we were growing up up to the age of 18 or maybe 21 or do we also include anything from we saw in our 20s and 30s? Thank you!

    • @Gabriellearrudadesign
      @Gabriellearrudadesign  2 роки тому +9

      I think you can include anything up to your current age, as long as it made an impact. The more you look at your style map (when you create it) the more you can hone it down. But the history list is kind of a brain dump to see all those style influences and aesthetics over the years, and any common threads.

    I think this video of yours is actually one of the best 🥺💗 deserves way more views!!! I went in having an idea of my personal style but after this I have a better understanding of why 🥰
    My earliest influences were actually what I can only describe as hyper-femme… 💗😎💗 Dorothy from Wizard of Oz has been a SUPER early influence of mine and I definitely dressed as her for halloween when I was 7 😊 I even found Princess Peach was on my list 😂 she was my main in smash bros for yearsss!!! But also Runescape (specifically the lederhosen look) and Tokyo Mew Mew played into my style, influencing who I am today!
    I didn’t dress feminine for the longest time but looking at my influences it makes total sense why I ended up embracing a more girly expression in my mid 20’s! (I had also gotten out of a relationship where the dude liked a more masc expression and gosh I think I didn’t realize how much it had influenced me until getting out!!!) 🥲
    Anywaysss that’s not the point, the point is better late than never to start embracing a more authentic style that makes you feel 10000x more confident haha!!! 💗
    I’m like 50% mary poppins esque (vintage style) , 10% futuristic, 20% fairy and 20% business chick 😝

    I hve a req. maybe for video or someone can answer, I feel restricted by the colour palette bcz in here, they don't really make clothes in those colours...for instance I am Dark autumn and I feel my doing gets limited while looking for clothes in such colours.

    • @Gabriellearrudadesign
      @Gabriellearrudadesign  2 роки тому +3

      I'm glad you took some time and came back to it. Going at your own pace is so important. It should be a fun process, not stressful. And I think giving yourself time to process where you want your style to go makes the results more successful.
      Keeping a strict color palette can be difficult. When I found my color season I shopped/purchased way less because so many of the initial things I liked were warm toned. Now, I try to keep my overall wardrobe in my color palette, but I do make exceptions for when I use my essence a bit more in an outfit, or if I'm ok with the color being noticed before me.
      Do you shop online? You can sometimes use the search function to try to limit the colors you are buying. And at times you can even borrow from sister palettes.
      But, if it feels limiting, just take it one step at a time. You don't have to feel confined by your palette. It's a tool to use when you want people to see you first, as opposed to noticing the clothes first.

So I tried both Classic and Romantic styles and found that I look so much better with simple sillouettes. What I did to mix the romantic in there is I wear more Romantic style jewelry and more colors than the neutral classics. Theatrical Romantic? Never looked longer than to figure out that I wasn't one. All I've ever wanted to be is a Natural. Don't care what kind. I'm a Soft Classic 😭

    Are there women who are just stuck on a few pairs of denim and a tee shirt? Ah. I hve a rigid style!?

      Yes, I think we all have our comfort outfits and moments where we just want to wear t-shirts and jeans...and that's totally ok! It's not rigid, it's making your clothes work for your lifestyle. A t-shirt and jeans can still be a personal style.🥰

    Why do you hate dramatic essence? Is it so awful to have a yan style??

      I’m confused- I don’t hate dramatic at all, I have dramatic essence and a yang leaning style
