How to Ponass a fish, Bushcraft Syle

Great day out in the forest using the X5 from Rigged and Ready as the fly rod to catch a trout and cook it up using the Ponass method. we light the fire using bushcraft skills and the bowdrill method, we make a quick pot hanger, we prepared the fish before cooking it over the fire.
Myself and Billy then share the trout with a cup of hot coffee for me and a fresh flowing stream for Billy to drink out of .
The X5 is a great travel rod. 👌

Quality Rick - decent rod that; I've never tried fly fishing but it looks nice and relaxing. Top Trout there and nicely cooked. Can tell, even now when you've done it probably thousands of times - how pleased you look when you get an ember on the bow drill - brilliant to see. ATB pal

Top video Rick.... nice casting mate. You could afford to start with a longer line and stop the forward cast a little sooner to close the loop, which will help when casting into an head wind. Nice job though and a nice trout for tea. I though Billy the seal would of caught the second one in mid air lol. Great to see you mate. All the best, Mark :)

Result! Nice looking fish and you can't getter fresher than that. I must admit I'm not one for fishing for "sport" - if I'm taking a fish from it's home and life it's to eat it only, the same with any life. I also thank the fish for it's sustenance and it's life to keep me alive. I'm not that good at snares though and my fishing skills could do with a an upgrade too; I'm thinking of a trip North to Scotland and see how my sea fishing stands - a few silver darlings are always welcome. It's a bit blowy today but dry. All the best Rick & Billy dog.

Can I ask, how long do you keep the fish over the fire when you cook like that, when do you know its cooked?

Lots of variables on an open fire ain't there put as long as I position it close enough that I could only hold my hand there for a few seconds I know its gonna cook alright and just keep checking 🙂👍.
