- This one talks about some of the problems I have found with this furnace. This video is part of the heating and cooling series of training videos made to accompany my websites: www.graycoolingman.com and www.grayfurnaceman.com to pass on what I have learned in many years of service and repair. If you have suggestions or comments they are welcome.
If you are a homeowner looking to repair your own appliance, understand that the voltages can be lethal, the fuels are highly flammable and high pressures are used. Know your limits. - Навчання та стиль
Thank you so much for this video! We woke up to a cold house and were panicking since I have zero clue about how a furnace works much less how to fix one. With your help, I was able to get it going in about 5 minutes!
spring, summer or fall, you make an interesting video all should enjoy. great job!
just took out an early 2000's or late 90's 80% comfort maker that had a huge crack in the plastic inducer housing. got 5 more of these systems (C M furnaces and rooftop set condesnsers) to do this week in the same apartment building. wonder is the rest will have cracked housings..... good video.
Good chance they will.

I have this furnace and runs for 4 minutes turns of then on immediately. Short cycling maybe? Also now when i turn on the ac unit, the heat comes on. Could it be a board instead? Thanks
I have blower housing as in video. The aftermarket metal ones have a blower housing over pressure relief that accepts a hose.
Can I just skip the hose and let any over pressure vent; just as my OEM one currently does?
Thank you
I have a Rheem Criterion and suddenly I have no gas pressure, no flame whatsoever when it tries to heat. I’ve cleaned the flame sensor, the ignition element gets red hot, my water heater which is right next to my furnace is getting gas, and the circuit board shows green light of PWR and OK light is green.
Before this happened it it would only kick in and heat about every 2nd or 3rd time.
Is it possibly the circuit board? Local service tech are suggesting replacing the furnace at an ungodly price which my wife and I cannot afford.
Any help would be appreciated.
Any idea what would cause a non-battery powered thermostat to the silhouette 2 to no longer power on? It acts like a breaker tripped but I don't think that's the deal.
I would try turning on the fan. If it does not come on, you probably have a power supply problem.

Thanks for the vid. Mine doesent light. The igniter isn't getting voltage. Can this be caused by the pressure switch? Could a cracked housing cause the igniter to not light? Do you have any ideas?
Certainly, a pressure switch problem could cause this. You can test by jumping out the pressure switch after the inducer starts.

@@grayfurnaceman thanks I'll try it tomorrow. As a precaution, I've sealed the cracked housing with high temp silicone rtv. You hit the nail on the head btw, the installer zip screwed the exhaust without pre-drilling. The flange was cracked pretty good. Do you have any other ideas as to what would cause this? Anything that you think I should check? Thank you sooo much for the helpful advice.
@@grayfurnaceman you mention that I can jump out the pressure switch, but only once because the furnace will not operate on the second startup without the switch... Do I have this right? My question is, if jumping the switch is successful, and I replace it accordingly, does anything need to be reset before starting the furnace back up?
@@gt5228z The pressure switch must be open before the inducer starts to prove the switch is not stuck closed. That is why you jumper after the inducer starts. Before you replace the switch, you need to check why it is not closing. Most pressure switch problems are not in the switch. Blocked sensing line, blocked vent pipe, blocked condensate line are all reasons for a pressure switch shutdown.

In your opinion, which furnace gives you the best bang for your buck nowadays
Extrangulador DelRio That's always hard to say. For price I would have to say Rheem/Rudd. I like Trane the best but it is not cheap.

Why do these gas valves have a ground wire? What do I need to do if the original gas valve has ground wires going to it, but the new updated replacement doesn't have anywhere to plug in the ground wires?
It will probably work normally without the ground. You can connect the ground to the chassis on the unit if you like.

grayfurnaceman Thanks!
I know this is an older video but maybe someone can help. My furnace (RUUD) is giving me a 4 blink error code. I know this is indicating the pressure switch is closed. My problem is sometimes it will kick on and work perfectly then after a few hours and several cycles it goes back to flashing a code and not working. Any ideas as to why it does this?
I would be looking for venting problems. Blockages, low spots on the venting that gathers water, condensate drain blockages.
GFM
I have a question where do you get theses furnaces?
I get them from a HVAC company junk pile.
GFM
first comment? Thank you for making videos! I'm thinking AC related videos this time of year would be more watched? 93 degrees with 101 feels like temperature today Central Florida
last I was in florida, folks were still wearing their coats in 90F weather :)
What cause your unit to cut on then like 5 seconds later it cuts off
You could have a dirty flame rod.
GFM
So what if the flame rod don't look dirty clean it anyway
I would. Use sandpaper lightly.
GFM
grayfurnaceman OK thanks
Wait wait wait THE HSI was used as a flame sensor
Initially the furnaces wasn’t staying on, so I started checking it out, I found the control board was burnt so I replaced it, also replaced the flame sensor AND still the furnace doesn’t wanna stay on 😂
Model is UGDG-07EAUER
Serial CH5D302 F2594 6496
Do the burners stay on past the trial for ignition?
GFM
@@grayfurnaceman I DONT think so plus the new board flame Sense LED not flashing I guess not sensing the flame
Once it's cracked you can't go back
