TIMESTAMPS:
2:40 -- Kurupt pays homage to late, great Nipsey Hussle and talks about the full circle effect of him influencing Nip, then Nip influencing him with what he did for the culture. They also discuss the evolution of Kweli and Mos Def, Kurupt being blown away by Mos' performance in the movie 'Something the Lord Made', and having aspirations to reach that level of acting. They also discuss Kurupt's move from Philadelphia to LA at 16 and Talib asks Kurupt to explain the differences of East Coast vs. West Coast hip hop at that time. He compares and contrasts the two approaches and tells how he schooled his west coast peers on expanding their pen game with more creative wordplay.
11:14 -- Kurupt reflects on growing up in Philly running with a rough crowd, and his mom fearing for his safety, sending him to live with his father in LA. The convo naturally moves to how Kurupt nativated the B's and C's dress code in LA being from the East Coast and not having prior knowledge of the street code. He talks about his "I'm from Philly" excuse wearing out quickly as he was forced to conform to the neighborhood norms. They go on to discuss Kurupt debuting as an emcee via three songs on The S.O.S. Band's 1991 album 'One of Many Nights', and Snoop Dogg's unreal ability to remember everyone he meets, dispelling myths that weed affects the memory.
19:00 -- Kurupt goes into the first time he met Snoop with a freestyle battle at the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood. Snoop giving him a level of competition he wasn't used to. He talks about Snoop having the edge over the crowd with his LA reality rap leanings vs. Kurupt's East Coast lyrical style. He also gets into how every battle made him better at reading what the crowd was looking for. Kurupt then goes on to talk about what he learned from being close friends with Nate Dogg, stating "he was a grown man since the day I met him" and reflects on working with Warren G for a solo album before the Dogg Pound came to fruition.
29:21 -- Kurupt speaks on what it was like during the early days of Death Row Records. Kurupt summed it up as "intimidating but exhilarating". He tells how his sister Diamond ran up to Snoop at a party and reminded him of how he got served by her brother during the battle at the Roxy. Kurupt states that Diamond and Snoop were the keys to the game as they connected him with Dre leading to his work on 'The Chronic'. He also illustrates the do or die moment at a birthday party Suge Knight was hosting. Suge telling Kurupt he had one shot to impress. If he was tight, he was on the team, but if he was wack he would get thrown in the pool. They also discuss the marketing genius of Suge Knight.
40:34 -- Jasmin brings up Kurupt's classic verse on 'Ain't No Fun (If The Homies Can't Have None)', and asks him how he feels about the verse now as he's matured. He goes on to outline the difference between b*tches and hoes versus women and ladies. They also talk about 'The Chronic' with it's mass appeal leading to a corporate push for more of the same, as well as the lack of attention given to the conscious songs on that album. Kurupt reflects on putting together his verse of 'Ain't No Fun', and Snoop having to slow him down on his urges to get too lyrical on the track. He also lays out how part of his original verse for 'B*tches Ain't Sh*t' ended up becoming the hook.
53:44 -- Kurupt explores the drama that unfolded surrounding Dogg Pound's 'New York, New York' originally intended as a tribute to NY, with their efforts geared towards earning respect from the Mecca of hip hop. He explains how everything changed when they ended up getting shot at in Brooklyn during the filming of the music video. They discuss how Notorious BIG was blamed for inciting the incident with his appearance on the radio, mentioning their presence in the city. Kurupt gives his take on the blame of Biggie, he talks about getting mad when DJ Pooh gave the same beat to Biggie for his St. Ides commercial before they used it, and Snoop stating "New York gonna love us for this" on completion of the track.
1:04:50 -- They go on to discuss Tragedy, Capone N Noreaga & Mobb Deep's clap-back record with 'LA, LA'. Kurupt outlines how they got past the beef, became friends and started recording together. The first connection was in 1998 when Norega appeared on the remix for Kurupt's first hit solo record in 'We Can Freak It'. Kurupt details how the Foxy Brown and Queen Pen beef brought the two sides together, as well as how he and DMX squashed their beef. Kurupt then talks about linking up with Puff and Biggie to talk about potentially working together on the heels of his leaving Death Row. They go on to talk East vs. West being a fabricated myth, as well as hip hop and black culture controlling all aspects of pop culture.
1:18:56 -- Kurupt is asked what he misses most about 2Pac. Kurupt responds with noting Pac's prolific nature, constantly writing and recording, always being steps ahead of everyone else and how that influenced others, keeping them on task. He explains how Snoop convinced Suge to post Pac's bail and bring him onto the team, and notes the real reason behind Pac's beef with Mobb Deep. Talib goes on to ask Kurupt to speak on the importance of Daz to Kurupt. Kurupt details the value of their brotherhood regardless of all the ups and downs. He also drops some advice to all generations in paying respect and recognizing the struggles of those that came before them.
1:26:02 -- Kurupt is asked how his outlook on life has changed following the tragic death of his fiance Natina Reed. Kurupt tells that the day of this episode was actually Natina's birthday. He goes on to talk about the greatness of Natina as a musical genius and amazing mother, as well as how much his son Tren is taking after her. Kurupt outlines how Lisa Left-Eye Lopes introduced the two while Natina was in the R&B group Blaque, with them finally getting together many years later. Kurupt then talks about their collab on Kurupt's 2001 song 'It's Over', and how Kurupt resisted marketing the track as the single for 'Space Boogie: Smoke Oddessey'.
1:37:07 -- Jasmin brings up Kurupt's Moonrock marijuana strain of high-quality cannabis buds dipped in hash oil. Kurupt talks about dropping out of the weed business due to the wave of imitation Moonrocks that flooded the industry, but being content with the fact that he created something iconic. They discuss Talib and Kurupt both appearing on MC Eiht's new project 'Lessons', as well as Kurupt's upcoming project 'The Hrsmn Vol. 2'. Kurupt reveals that the rapper turned producer Kwamé aka K1 Mil will be a big part of record and notes how his production is so good it's almost intimidating.
1:49:00 -- Kurupt talks about getting married soon, his and Daz making a movie called 'Ain't No Fun', a deal he's just landed for a new solo album, and his currently residing in Atlanta so he can continue working with Rico Wade, Ray Murray and Sleepy Brown of Organized Noize. Kurupt and Talib go on to discuss the time-lines of when they each arrived on the scene, Kurupt tells why Pac told Daz to take Inspectah Deck off of 'Got My Mind Made Up', and kicks a few lines from Deck's verse. Kurupt then asks Talib what it feels like to be a part of hip hop history. Talib responds with his being a fan first and reflects on taking a trip to LA in the early 90's to visit the Good Life Cafe and trying to battle Souls Of Mischief.
2:01:43 -- Kurupt brings up the time he ran into Buckshot of Black Moon at a club in New York leading them to become friends and Talib notes how much the Duck Down camp has influenced him. Kurupt goes on to ask Talib how he feels about being included in the conversation of all-time greats in the game and having achieved iconic status. Talib states that it breaks down to cultural currency, feeling honored by the acknowledgement of emcees like Kendrick Lamar and J-Cole. Kurupt talks about Black Star taking the lane of educating their listeners, why Suge told him not to gangbang on his records, and takes a break to do an Instagram video post while on the show.
2:13:04 -- Talib tells Kurupt they need to do a record together, Kurupt talks about getting shown respect in Talib's hometown of Flatbush Brooklyn, and Talib tells about one of his early jobs in Brooklyn working for concert promoters, hanging posters on the tunnel. Kurupt brings up the undeniable skills of Ludacris as an emcee and his respect for Drake as a supreme lyricist regardless of what type of records they make. He also speaks to embracing others giving constructive advice on his writing towards the finished product. Kurupt closes out by giving his respect to the new hip hop generation, as he likens hip hop to a sports league.

Kurupt is a staple in hip-hop history that often gets overlooked... give the legend his flowers while he can still smell 'em!
Nice way to put it. Man he has bars tho wow I would still love for him to collab with Eminem just because I'll know it'll be a decent track

@@909News EM and Kurupt? Two of my favorites? Oh damn!
I saw him live he a real one
@@909News love that idea!
Kurupt is a Emcee G! I battled him in the late 90's, over the phone on Sway and King Tech's Wake Up Show . Kurupt was on the show one night, and said he would battle 3 callers that belived they could rap. So I was 1 out of the 3 callers that got through. All 3 callers had a chance to rap twice. After that Kurupt digested everything we said, and start rapping lyrical 🔥 🌙 rocks at each caller! He did this killing off the head freestyle 😆! For about maybe 6 min non stop.. Not to many established artists would've done that. That was some real emcee shit! Thank you for that hip hop moment homie! It's ' something I will never forget. Much love and respect Kurupt!

In 1996 I saw Kurupt and Pac Battle two local MC’s at a club in LA just because they said couldn’t hold his own in a Freestyle Battle,Kurupt literally took their heads off and Pac just roasted them
Pac admitted Kurupt was better LYRICALLY key word lyrically.
That had to be one of the best nights ever. Hip-hop history!

First to comment! An ICON/LEGEND in da 🏠!!! Can hold his own against ANYBODY that's both old and new school when it comes to MC'ING!! He's the definition of what being FEARLESS is!! He's vocab heavy and got flow!! Shame on me for not buying enough of his albums! Was a fan since him and Daz started their 🐕 pound duo! I respected him MORE when his double solo album Kuruption came out in 98! One of my favs all time MC'S one of the 🐐 s!!
yea his solo debut slept on.
I remember when Kurupt was considered top 5. His verses on early Death Row records are highly quotable. Salute to "the littlest G, with the biggest strap".
@gary corr
He was awesome but yeah not top 5
@gary corr I didn't say he was top 5, I said a lot of people considered him top 5 at one time.

Finland. Mumble rap never took over, so lyricism and MCs are still the most dominant form of music side of hiphop here.. Also painting and break dance and all that is very prevalent as well.

I keep seeing post about Kurupt being underrated which indicates your knowledge of hip hop culture. It’s sad most young people can’t distinguish the difference between a lyricists and a rapper. Kurupt was able to separate himself from the pack based off his skill set back in the day
Wow. This is hands down Kurupt's best interview. Stories are 💥
Now I wanna hear his sister Diamond talk in real life! 😂

Such a great interview with one of my top 5 MCs! So hyped when I saw Kurupt in the title esp because he's somewhat not talked about as much as other legends.

Even amongst the HRSMN, Kurupt always holds his own. Testament to his ability with the pen. Capable of both vibe records and complex verbiage. A rare breed fo sure

1:58:42 what a beautiful moment where Kurupt and Kweli connect on something so small as to taking a greyhound coast to coast that would eventually lead to them becoming icons in this game. Love this.
YOOO! When Kurupt recited Inspectah Deck's lost verse, that gave me chills!
YES
So damn happy that I had the chance to see this interview, gonna finish watching it later. A criminally underrated lyricist. I remember him announcing a new album with the same producer from the space boogie album, but it got removed later on and idk if i was imagining some stuff or going crazy.
They tried to trap Kurupt on the ain't no fun question and he answered it accordingly 😂
