Frédérique-- what a perfect video for me!! Usually when I go back the first places I go are to Fragonard in Nice, or Èze or in the big department store like Galleries Lafayette so I can get my rare favorites and try new samples! I love two favorites of my mother and also the second one was also loved by Jackie Bouvier Kennedy-- the Guerlain Shalimar and Vol de Nuit ( I saw her big bottle in a movie about her!) Vol de Nuit is another one where one could be on the Orient Express! I loooove it, but it's hard to find. You have to go to Paris and the _grands magazines_.
A newer Cartier that I really love is Panthère! I found it in France about 3-5 years ago, and I love it so much! I always get compliments on it.
Also love the new No. 5 L' Eau de Chanel which is totally different from No. 5. I also am not really very fond of No 5, which for some reason doesn't suit me at all, ( too strong and maybe metallic + sweet) but I got a sample of the L'Eau and that is magic. It has a quality of _Rive Gauche_ ( which I love) or maybe _Knowing_ but it's so fresh and so sharp, chic. Paris! It's become a go-to. I also do not like sweet perfumes, and there are too many vapid and sweet ones around right now. But I love summer fragrances like _Soleil_ of Fragonard. If I am going out ( after the pandemic) for the evening I will stick to Shalimar, or Panthère or No.5 L'Eau!
Hello Frédérique, my favorite fragrance is Perfume de Pau by Claude Montana. It is so sophisticated and unique and represents my personality. It is really hard to get, but thus far, I haven't found any proper replacement for it. My second favorites Coco Noir and Womanity (Mugler).
Aqua Motu by Comptoir Sud Pacifique. To me, it smells like France!

I recall when it came to the States.. we went to our local high end department store, similar to a Neiman Marcus , and tried on the sample ! It was extraordinary, but couldn't wear it until I graduated college.
Then in the early 90s my brother brought me BYZANCE from his trip to Paris .. heavenly 💖

my ex husband used to buy Rive gauche for me.
When I’m in Macy’s I nave to stop by the perfume department just to smell shalimar which reminds of my mother who has passed away at the age of 96. My dad had been giving that perfume to her since WWII.
Shalimar was the first sophisticated fragrance my mum gave me for my 18th. Unfortunately they do not make original Shalimar.
My mom too. She’s 94 now.

@@anne-mariebiorci5453 I'm not in my 80s but still use Shalimar...but the original was sweet, so sweet smelling, and this is more bitter, but still better than the other "crap" peddled out there today.

I have worn L’Air du Temps since 1968, when I purchased a bottle at Marshall Field’s in Chicago. I was 15 and I felt so sophisticated. I cherish the (now empty) Lalique bottles of L’Air du Temps perfume I purchased in Paris in the 1970s.

Guerlain L' Heure Bleue is an old one but is so sophisticated and unusual.

In 1965, on graduating from high school, my dear auntie and uncle gave me JOY by Jean Patou (1930). It is the only fragrance I've used through all these years.

1000 is my favorite J.P. and my dad gave me the real perfume one Christmas. It remind me of good times and the sillage is AMAZING.
Joy was my grandmothers favorite scent...I LOVE it...for special occasions...Chanel NO5 everyday.
I never thought I would love any perfume as much as I do Cacharel’s Anais Anais. It has such a clean floral smell, like powder or soap. One new one I do love is Jo Malone’s Wild Bluebells, but it’s super fast-fading, even for a cologne, and doesn’t come in the longer-lasting perfume form. My Anais Eau de Cologne lasts all day. Fragrances made in France are always the best, the French have a long tradition of expert fragrance-making and always use high-quality natural ingredients. The only downside is that bees think I’m a flower and sometimes get a bit in my face.
Anais Anais was the first “nice” perfume I owned. Asked & received for my 16th birthday. Loved. Give Pure Grace by Philosophy a try. Very clean & soap like. Or Amazing Grace also by Philosophy, more floral than the Pure Grace but still clean. These are my every day perfumes.
My god Anaïs Anaïs is one perfume I’ll cherish until death! My dad got it for me from Paris when I was 3 or 4 ( yep been wearing perfumes since forever, I’m 33 now) and it instantly became a favourite! Love love! I’ve used many since but Anaïs so close to my heart ❤️
Wow me to! I love love love wild bluebell from Jo Malone, but also fades super fast. I bought Carat from Cartier And I love it so much! I am definately going to try anais anais
Anais Anais! I bought a bottle at the store for foreigners while studying in Moscow (1982!). I didn't have money to waste, but I had to have that fragrance! Ah youth.

My favorite perfume is Aromatics Elixir by Clinique! It’s so elegant, simple and earthy to me!
I got so excited when you mentioned Rochas! My favorite perfume is Femme by Rochas. My aunt wore it when I was little and I wear it now. I'm super picky about scents but I love Femme ❤️
My mom's all time favourite perfume is Dior's Diorissimo..but she also liked Rive Gauche and Chanel #19. Grandma used to wear Lancome's Magic Noir, Serge Lutens Feminite du Bois, Guerlain Apres l'Ondee and Insolence :)
I adore French perfume! My parents gave me my first French perfume when I was 12 years old. Now I'm 30 and all these years I have collected so many bottles, because I love to set mood around me with colors and scents so for every day with different outfit, different weather and different place I choose to use different fragrance. I love them all and it's hard to choose favorite, but I think that YSL Black Opium, Givenchy Irresistible Delicieuse and Lanvin Eclat has special place in my heart.

Oh, so many to choose from! Thank you for the recommendations, there are some I will definitely try. Personally I love Délices de Cartier/ Lancôme Trésor La Nuit (quite a newish one I think) and Thierry Mugler Muse - oh and Black Opium, bien sûr!! ❤❤❤

OMG VioletFlame, please make yourself a priority for this. You don't need to wait for a special occasion either. Any day that you are alive is a special day and just as you make a point of paying all those household/car/insurance etc. bills, one bill that is important to pay for is for a nice perfume for you, the queen. Don't expect anyone to get it for you, get it and make it happen soon. Also, it doesn't have to be extremely expensive. $75.00 is enough to get a small bottle of something nice. Do it even if you have to save $10 in a cookie jar every month. You deserve it. I almost cried when I read your comment.

Love this video, learning about French perfumes, some I have not tried before. Chanel Allure, Dior Poison and Chanel #5 are my top three favorites. And Dunhill edition cologne for my husband, he refuses to use any other colognes.
My favorite is Coco Chanel. I also love Amarige (Givenchy), and when I was younger L'air du Temps (Nina Ricci). 😍

I always put a little Chanel No 5 on my wrists on the way to the bus stop each morning. Just a little goes a long way, it smells better as it's 'drying down', just a gentle scent. I love it! Thank you for another wonderful video!

I own Cartier Carat: it smells like a freshly cut spring bouquet. Black opium by YSL IS also a gorgeous sweet coffee perfume. My mom has Shalimar Initial and it’s super spicy for my taste. From Hermès I love the Jardin line, especially Ms Li.

Coco Mademoiselle is definitely now for me. It reminds me of my mom who passed away in 2020. Homage to her and the patchouli base always works for me. Recently I've received or purchased No.5 Eau, Black Opium,and L'INTERDIT. J'adore EAU DE ROCHAS. Coriandre is also a fresh scent and a bargain one that doesn't disappoint.
I have worn Chanel #19 for close to 40 years. I have also worn Eau de Rochas and Rive Gauche. You've given me some new ideas of some I should try.

I just discovered your videos and love your presentation! All of my favorite fragrances are French. From Chanel; Crystalle Eau Verte, Beige, and Gardenia. No 5 is too strong for me, although recently found No 5 L’Eau and also No5 Eau Premiere and love them! From Guerlain; Mon Guerlain and Sparkling Bouquet layered. Of the better-known Chanel, I love Coco Noir and Chance Eau Fraiche.
To me Guerlain is the Queen in here. No matter what I get… it’s amazing. I have like 60 perfumes so it’s difficult to say but I would say Poison the hypnotic version would be my pick!

I was gifted Chanel #19, and I love it!! Very fresh and green.
I just found your channel and love it! I was surprised to find that I have worn at least 2/3 of these fragrances over the years. I loved Rive Gauche in the early 70’s. Will have to revisit it. I have Eilat a great deal of weight recently and am looking to establish a style for the new me. I am 68 and don’t want to dress too young or too frumpy. Classic French style has great appeal for me.

@@ms.frederique The best perfume in the world along with Kelly Caleche. I've worn Caleche since I was 13. I'm 55 now, and still love it, but I also love Les Jardins, basically the Nile one and the Monsoon. Hermes rocks!!!
Loved the compilation! Shalinar always smelled old lady-ish to me but I’ve learnt to love it. It was inspired by the Shalimar Gardens in India, built 400 years ago by the same emperor who built the Taj Mahal! It is very Indian in essence ❤️

Chanel Number 5 is my all time favorite perfume. When I was about five years old, I used to sit at my mother's vanity and open up her bottle of No. 5. I loved the scent then and still do to this day, it is my signature scent. It's 100 years old this year! Last year in Paris, my husband bought me Chanel 1957 - it is exclusive to Chanel boutiques only. I love it but no one every says "that smells so nice" You don't hear much about this one. Glad to hear about the other French perfumes you mention as I am always on the hunt for a good perfume. Lancome - ugh - way to sweet, only like this brand for some of their makeup products.
Oh, I loved this video. It brought back great memories... You are absolutely correct on testing a fragrance before purchase. I have had some hits and misses through the years. For me; in the '90's; I loved Lancome's "Tresor". I did feel like a "treasure" when I wore it and in the summertime; it was Lancome's "O de Lancome". So fresh and vibrant. For the past two years; while not French; I have loved Philosophy's "Ballet Rose" eau de parfum. It works well with my chemistry. I get so many complements. I do like to try new items but love the old too.

In my 20s I wore Shalimar exclusively. I still love the scent and any of the older Guerlain formulations. Today I like smaller parfumerie products such as Providence Perfume Company’s Rose Boheme or Vientiane. Also a big fan of NY parfumerie called Le Labo their Rose 31 is a very sensual, complex perfume that gets lots of compliments.

Chanel - Cristalle, Cristalle Eau Vert, No19 and No5.
Dior - Eau Sauvage, Diorella, Miss Dior original and Dune
Guerlain - Eau Cologne Imperiale, Vetiver, Herba Fresca and Mitsouko
Yves St Laurent - Rive Gauche
Clarins - Eau Dynamisante
I know these aren't French but my other favourites are 4711 and Acqu Di Parma's Colonia
I much prefer the older perfumes as I find new ones too sweet for me. As you can see I like fresh, Chypre and Woody.

Oh my goodness, I remember wearing Rive Gauche as a teenager in high school ( I am almost 61). My best friend and I were obsessed with everything French💕💕. I am a perfume junkie and probably own over 50 different fragrances, but I would love to re-visit this one for the instant memories. You look lovely by the way. For so many years my "signature" perfume was Miss Dior layered with the lotion but sadly they re-formulated the fragrance and now way too sweet. My go to is by Houbigant - Quelques Fleurs. I simply cannot get dressed without adding a scent! Luv the video!

I like Gabrielle but it's not for my skin...
Such a beautiful collection of French fragrances. My favourites are Chanel Cristalle Eau Verte and Hermès Jour d’Hermès and Le Jardin de Monsieur Li. I totally agree with you about Terre d’Hermès and Bleu de Chanel for men 😍these are the two fragrances that I always buy for my husband.

Poison was my first in college in the late 80s. I bought Panthere de Cartier 30 years ago and loved it. I was also a big fan of Givenchy Absolutely Irresistible. Je'suis desolate that they're discontinued. Dad bought Mom L'air du Temps on their honeymoon in 1963 and in subsequent years.
Chanel Coco (the original) is my absolute favorite perfume of all time. And wow, Rive Gauche.. My Aunt always wore this, I bought it once, but it didn't smell the same on me, so I agree with you about testing on your skin first. My Mum used to wear Cartier (back in the 80's and 90's).. French perfumes are absolute perfection ❤️

I agree 💯 that French perfumes are the best and I had during my adult life almost all of your mentioned perfume houses.
From Chanel my favourites were Allure and Allure Sensuelle. Hermés - absolutely love Fabourg 24 and Terre de Hermés. And Jardin sur le Nile.
But perhaps my top perfume is Sisley Eau de Soir. Very feminine, classy and elegant statement perfume.
I can go on and on 😃.

I love ‘Poeme’ by Lancome. Its a mix of “freesias, blossoms and mimosa etc”.
I love this as well, and now my teenage daughter has her own bottle because she also loves it so much. She's the third generation in our family to love and wear Poeme ❤️
My favorite perfume that I always go back to is Chanel chance, constant compliments. Need to try coco noir ❤️

Chloe original is my absolute favorite!! Have been wearing it since 2011
