I think they pump too many growth hormones in the food here in the us. I grew up in the Netherlands, and whenever I visit, I am eating the same amount of food and I lose 10 lbs within a week. Here in the US, I eat the same food, and exercise 5 times a week, and feel bloated and sick and cannot -sorry- go to the bathroom for three days.

Yes, correct. So have compassion on Americans as many have no idea the food is poisoned. About the 1990s we saw a change in our health and foods. The food even fruits and vegetables don't taste the same. But many are trying to educate Americans to be aware. Even our organic grown foods are gased before travel to stores or restaurants.

Yes, all my life I've been such a big eater and I eat about 4 times the amount of what my siblings and mom eats, but I am not fat and they are slim. I was never slim in my younger days I was really skinny where my bones would protrude, I have always been muscular somehow and people would always think that I go to the gym rigorously, but I don't even go to the gym and just walk everywhere. If it's 30 minutes walk or less I just walk there, so it gives about an hour or less both ways.

I'm British-Nigerian, and in my Nigerian culture, my goodness...its like "eat eat eat, the fatter the better, the fatter the healthier, the fatter the curvier" and then many Nigerian people suffer from high blood pressure and diabetes. I am 5,7 and weigh like 60kg...I am UK size 8, I am toned and I have no obvious 'fat deposits'. I will eat the sauce on the sauce and the butter on the butter croissant. I will eat EVERYTHING and I will feel like dying from eating, I roll out of the chair. BUT like you said, balance. The next day after eating a lot, I'm not hungry, still like I'm digesting so I won't eat anything - just drink water and herbal tea until I feel empty again (maybe this takes until dinner time the next day). Then I will eat like normal, lots of salad and vegetables (I LOVE salads!). I LOVE to walk and hike. There's no secret diet. It's just, listen to your body, don't restrict and don't overindulge every single day. Thank you for this video!
FYI: Also My husband is Italian - YOU EAT BREAD WITH PASTA, you do the scarpetta!

My New Zealand family spent 4 months in the US a few years ago. On our first day in a small NorthEastern town, I walked wirh my 3 children into the town centre. In our 20-30 minute walk, we had 4-5 cars pull over next to us and the driver asked if we were ok 😂😂😂😂. I appreciate the concern, but walking shouldn't be so alarming.

Love the video, I am from Italy but I live in the US. So this is my take: 30 yrs ago, when I moved to the US, I noticed immediately the portions, the shopping carts, the croissants size, the cappuccino size, the pantries size, the fridges size...I think you get the point.Everything is huge. I remember asking early on my US adventures for "mini" croissants because, and I had to explain it so many times, the croissants I was used to in Italy were half to 1/3 the size of the American ones. Well, I stopped asking because hardly anyone had them.

True to a point; we refrigerate everything and take less frequent trips to the grocery store. As I understand it, in Europe they do not refrigerate beverages, they don't have icemakers which take up a lot of refrigerator room, and they buy fresh meats, breads, etc. daily. But in any city that requires walking instead of driving, you will see slimmer people. I believe frequent, daily walking might be the biggest contributor to staying slim!

B, small portions make a HUGE difference. Ciao from North Texas,👋

I eat butter, cream, cake, whatever I want and I’m not overweight. I walk everywhere (city living) and practice extreme portion control. It’s all about moving around and with food, how much not what it is. I also don’t own a scale, scales lead to weight obsession. Obsession leads to unhappiness.

    Dont smoke, vape.
Before a celebratory meal, eat light for a few days.
Indukgeht bread ahd psstry based breakfasts are on Sundays, not daily.
Not necessarily sporty, but go to the gym, do pressups etc at home, or other enjoyable sport like swimmimg and diving and dancing.
Living in glamorous cities, public transport and walking (rather than driving) keeps people slim.
Dont weigh daily, measure waist, arms, thighs intermittently.
Another exercise tip... Move for at least twenty minutes a day.
No snacking between meals...do not snsck!
For a sweet craving, have yoghurt.
Ice cream or a full baguette...Do not eat in from of tv and go for a walk afterwards.
Do not keep junk food in the house.
Carbs are ok, but you have to build muscle wuth ecercise if you are going to eat them and burn them off.
    Eat vegetables with every meal.
Poop a lot by eating enough fibre.... At least once a day.
Vinegars and a little olive oil snd lenon juice as salad dressing.
Never drink alcohol on an empty stomach
Eat healthy fats daily avacado oily fish etc
Eat protein daily eg eggs etc
    Exercise after indulging
    Eat at the table
    Drink heaps of water
Not sure you are hungry? Drink water and wait thirty minutes
In supermarket, dont go down junk food Isles... Dont put yhe junk in yhe trolley, dont buy it.
Track what you eat so you are aware and can balance things out.
    Stretch.
    Be consistent in your habits.
Speak to a professional if you are overweight and need help eg dietician, nutritionist, doctor
Keep long term healthy aging in mind.
My comment: it's not hard. What a lot of common sense, thank you. Dont buy crappy foods, eat mindfully, move yoir body often, and sometimes travk what you eat so you can balance overindulgence with other days of eating light and moving more! ( Unfortunately, of you already have disbetes, obesity, prediabetes, you might need a more extreme approach initially to get weoght off). Then maintain like this. Fab video 🙏

I grew up in Manhattan. Everything you do, everywhere you go, requires walking. If you are going somewhere- you walk a brisk 10-15 minutes to your subway station, you get out and then walk to your destination, then walk back to your subway, get out and walk back to your apartment. It’s non stop. We grow up with it and accept it because it’s the only life we have- until we move to other states where every activity requires driving. Now THAT is weird.

I weigh myself a few days before I go for a physical just to keep track. But basically, I can tell how much I weigh by how tight my skinny outfits fit. I just turned 69 (yeah) and am 5 1/2" and 110 lbs (give or take 2 lbs up or down from that point). So, my BMI is a little under 21. Of course, whenever I'm in a theater show, without trying, I can lose 5lbs -- but it comes back quickly when the show is over.

I don’t think there was anything I didn’t already know but it’s so good to have a reminder and to have it all in one video 👍👍 The only tip I would add is to cook things yourself at home, meaning real food, not ready meals. I try to eat 90% things that I’ve cooked or know every ingredient is real food when eating at home. Sometimes in the supermarket I will have a craving for something junky and when I pick it up and read the ingredient list the number of ingredients that are chemicals I don’t recognize or filler ingredients really puts me off buying it 😂

I'm also a Frenchie living abroad and I agree with everything apart from the statement that all French food is butter-based and extremely rich everywhere. I'm from Provence (South-Eastern part of France) where we have a lighter and healthier Mediterranean diet with more grilled fish, olive oil and tons of veggies. French cuisine is very diverse, that's the beauty of it. You drive 300 km away and you'll find they eat more meat and cook with duck fat. But, it's true, all of us have a balanced diet between proteins, carbs and fiber. Also, when we indulge ourselves with a viennoiserie or a feast as described by Frédérique, we will eat less the next meals to compensate.

I believe the fact is that due to the hot and cold food at the same time in the stomach, the food isn't digested well because the enzymes working on each type of food is pH and temperature specific so all the nutrients aren't received. This used to happen to me when I was younger so I ate a lot and never got thicker or get a big belly. It didn't at all mean that my thinness was healthy because all the healthy food I was eating wasn't staying in my body. Having headphones, I have known or heard from a health expert is not recommended in terms of earhealth for long periods or when exercising. What is good about ice cream? Just because it looks or tastes nice doesn’t mean it's good. The pasta can be whole wheat or healthy. Right now with gadgets you can even make your own spaghetti with vegetables.

Frederique you are totally correct, but also, there are people who are just naturally fatter. Naturally thin people don't understand the struggles of the naturally fat. Even my endocrinologist does not think I eat enough. My children think I have an eating disorder ( I don't, I just don't want to die young). Yet I have always been fat, my whole life. Not obese, because I diet and exercise. I was even able to have three children without medical intervention despite hormonal problems because I was so strict with what I ate (even though I had diabetes with each pregnancy and I am diabetic now). I'm just putting this here because there are loads of people - up to 10% of the population - who do everything right yet are overweight. And there are also about 10% of people who can eat whatever they want and put five sugars in their coffee and remain super skinny. You have to account for genetic variation. The mainstream fat establishment doesn't understand that (despite studying biochemistry and physiology). Just saying.

Maybe I was raised by a French woman? Is Clark French. this feels like how I was taught and the women in my family here in the us seam to go by this too. In my house we rarely have chips and I just dont do that area in the grocery store. I think we are Welsh and Norwegian German, but many of us here in the US where raised by moms and grandmas that talked like this also. You just will not find many of us broadcasting it, because we took up different hobbies possibly. And buying cute cloths that are a bit more $$ makes you more thoughtful about what you put in overall. PS: Loved this video so much.

When i took french language, i didn't realize it was french language AND culture!
My professor claimed to be French (but who knows honestly)
She said the French have a large breakfast, large lunch (though smaller than breakfast)
And dinner ,if at all, must be early (like 4-430)and something like a salad.. a real salad, not iceberg lettuce lol
(your metabolism shuts down around 7pm)
Anyway, Im an American female and still try to emulate these teachings as much as i possible they actually work for me!

I just arrived in Nice three days ago. First thing I noticed was all the walking and no obese people. Our culture in America truly sets us up for an unhealthy lifestyle. We drive everywhere, because everything is so spread out and because we have so many more people to feed, processed food is the norm and fresh food is very expensive. The easy thing to control is the snacking. We eat to eat, not because we are really hungry. Fast food just too convenient for many.

Its so interesting to me that you say the french eat lightly a few days before a big meal, and again after. I (American) used to do this years ago when I had clinical Anorexia, and the doctors told me it was disordered eating to do so. It always made sense to me though, to save calories for a big meal if I didnt want to gain weight. I feel like the opposite gets pushed in America these days, do not save calories for a big meal and "you dont have to eat less because you ate too much yesterday".
Just a comment on cultural differences and what counts as disordered eating in America. I wonder if other countries use the DSM as well?

I lost 100 lbs and I've been keeping it for 6 years eating vegies, vegetarian protein (beans, eggs, lentils, etc), sleeping a lot, drinking lots of healthy drinks, (tea, water, one protein drink a day), eating 3 x day (Main Meals: vegetarian protein, vegies), 2 small snacks (fruit and nuts). I can't sleep without food, so I leave some for later 1/2 hour before bedtime. I eat sweets/carbs once in a while, but I compensate dieting the next week or so. Make sure you go to the toilet once a day. Extremelly important!!! Otherwise you're not eating properly (greens, papaya, etc). In this case I take senna cleansers, use glycerin suppositories (for fast relief) or colonics if it's too bad. I do a cleanse now and then, like Madonna. If you don't put out what you eat it's bad for you. And you won't lose weight. I exercise when I feel like, at least 2 x week. I do gardening, stretching, play music and dance. I follow videos of dance on UA-cam. Just immitate them. It takes a lot of practice to do their stuff nicely. Be kind to yourself. Search for peace within your mind. Ask for help if you need. Your mind is so important. Stress is a killer for putting on weight eating all the wrong things. I hope this helps someone. I have no other purpose, other than help. It's been a big journey for me. Frederique is right. In life we need balance. If it feels wrong, run the other way and ask for help. And don't forget to supplement. They are really important because you cannot get all nutrients just from food. Do the basic: one multivitamin a days, Vitamin Bs are SO important for vegetarians. Anything you add to it, add it one at a time, slowly. For example: minerals like calcium, Magnesium, etc + K2 to improve calcium absortion, as well as D3 (whenever it's winter and you don't get much sun on your skin). Go to a doctor once a year to do all major tests and if something is wrong go to a specialist and nutricionist to figure out. Don't smoke and don't drink alcohol. It kills you. If you can't do it all, at least minimize and slowly you'll get there. Change your main meal plate size to a dessert plate. Use small utensils to eat your food and eat slowly. It takes at least 20 minutes for your brain to recognise it's full. Chew your food well. Do not watch TV while you eat. Preferably never eat out, only as a treat. Try to prepare your meals ahead of time. It takes just 15 to 20 minutes to prepare a healthy simple and delicious meal. Forget complicated recipes. Leave it to the professionals as a treat once in a while. Shop for food on a full stomach and buy only the necessary. Do not leave treats, sweets, breads, candy, chocolates anywhere in the house. Do not buy more than you need. If you want to stock up on foods, make sure these are not included or you won't resist having them around. For breads and pastas I substitute them for the ones made with high protein content. Nowadays you can find them and they are delicious. Anything over 7g protein or more per serving. Empty Carbs= Sugar. Avoid them. Every time you treat yourself to something fattening, you'll have to cut down the next one to two weeks later, depending on your age, lifestyle and metabolism. Just beware of that. Nothing is for free or that easy. You gotta work for it. One step at a time. It's just up to you. No one else. You have to want it, REALLY. For a better life and a better YOU.

And you do need to pick up the weights to build your muscles. Once you are in perimenopause, there is only one diet: healthy one plus a good night sleep and a lot of water. Bye, bye croissants, wine, heavy cheese and desserts; I won't even mention smoking!!!

I live in Canada. What the government allows the food industry to use as ingredients should be criminalized. And yes, butter, meat and dairy has been bashed for years. Unless you live in a big city like Toronto or Vancouver etc you have a hard time walking around your city or town because everything is spread out, not made for walking and you only have the shoulder seasons where you can get out and walk otherwise it’s too hot or too cold. So people that want exercise do the gym or sports.

I listen to my bodies needs and I always want to feel well - not bloated. I guess that is the trick...listen to your body! Listen to your brain! ps, I am nearly 65. I just turned 57 and can say that much of this is how I've lived, and I regularly get surprised reactions to my true age. The one thing I'm not good about is the sugar! It is so easy to get addicted to. In fact, I find it very hard to be balanced. Either I cut out anything with added sugar entirely, or I gradually get to where I'm having it 4 times a day. Then I say, 'that's too much' and get rid of it all. Then over the next few years, inch up to 4/day again!

I figured out how I lost weight on that diet -- if you are in Paris and do not have a chaffeur/car of your own, you take the Metro. To GET to the Metro, you walk MILES. Think about that underground maze at Les Halles -- at least 2 city blocks just to get to the proper gate. And the museums -- just a walk around the Louvre must be good for 5 of those pounds........God, if I lived in Paris, I would be a TOOTHPICK.......

While the French refuse to get big or stay big in the first place.

I saw women eating baguettes on the go but they were walking.
