Well, taht Colorado at least have reason to stay afar, Flamu's Nagato isn't alone, he got a whole bunch of DD to support, now if you are in the other BB you maybe able play a fighting retreat, but not the Colo, her 20km max speed ensure that you will never escape. :D
Sorry Cancun, but you are wrongly assuming that the other players in your team will support you: I stopped assuming that and my overall stats are improving. Trust in yourself and not in your teammate. The bet of the colorado there was to bait off as much enemies as possible, but Flamu brook off and sailed to B. The Colorado tactic didn't work out here but he was clearly aware of the map and following a scheme, albeit in a horribly slow ship that does not allow you to make change your plan easily.
Moments of importance that I wanted to highlight are; 10:30, showing just how squishy a broadsiding Nagato is, and 18:00 where I punish the Colorado using the Overmatch mechanic while avoiding retaliation by using the optimal angle where I can neither be citadeled nor overmatched.
Excellent game, especially when one considers they had TWO 'brawler' type BBs (a Shinyhorse pro sniping? Sigh) that sat at long range and largely removed themselves from anything consequential. Stupid BB players, how rare. Having done Nagato again, how about showing people the correct use of Lolorado? Would make a good example vs what we saw from their one in this battle. Cheers
Once again an excellent commentary! You shine when you not only commentate on the ships strange and weaknesses but when you also explain what you are doing and why you took those actions. Thats just perfect.
Speaking of chasing. I was in my Khab last night, and got a New Orleans, Amagi, Benson, and Ibuki to chase me from the Cap of whatever map I was on, ALL the way to the far border. My team promptly rolled through the opposite cap, through the middle, into the cap I had taken (and left, and the enemy took) and then finished up the ships that were chasing me. All I did was fire a salvo of torpedoes, 8 fires, and racked up a paltry 80k some damage. And the end result? A very nice win that perfectly shows why randoms are utterly (most of the time,) incompetent. 6k health, all I got left. Doesn't matter. Won the game, made a profit.
The moment when you shoot a still sitting cruiser at 10 k range for 2k dmg......and you eat 12k volleys while sailing away angled....then you know what gets rewarded in this game... xD
Awesome video as always. I always learn something that as eluded me and with out having to play 1,000s of matches in a certain ship. I just picked up the Nagato and I am looking forward to tryout what I have learned. Thanks Flamu!
Nagato is a wonderful BB, fast shells, decent speed, good damage. Her issue is the slower reload, and her squishy armour. But it is so much fun shooting down DDs thinking I am not going to primary them.
Funny thing happened today, I was chasing a Sims in my Nagato (mostly because of who he was and the threat he posed, and he was very close to me) and I noticed the third turret on the Nagato went haywire and did a full 360 turn before I got sunk, has that been changed or was that a bug?
I saw my win rate increase dramatically when I started prioritizing DD in my BB. Of course I’ll take a stationary broadside cruiser over a maneuvering DD … but every little bit of damage to that red DD takes pressure off the friendly DD. My damage numbers went up as well, surprisingly to me at first. On second thought I suppose since I’m helping my DD with their natural enemies I give them more freedom to spot for me.
Interesting fact, Nagato received a lot of armour around the guns and magazines during major rebuilds of the 30s, but didn't get any additional armour around the boiler engine room. So aim for the amidship when you see a broadside Nagato and happy citadel!
about the shooting at DD thing, I had an amusing moment against a Minekaze and two Farraguts that was rushing our team's base. I ended up rushing into their smoke after all but two of their torpedoes missed me. All 3 DDs were killed by me and the friendly CV, and the smoke shielded me from the enemies behind the DDs, so I had a few free shots. It was funny.
huh good to know nagato is getting buffed right after i finish with it... though according to the Armour viewer it felt like the fuso has better Armour then the nagato
Nagato is going to get stronger? That's great news, only trouble I seem to really have with it is when being pounded up the ass anyhow. Takes a lot of damage from the rear, especially if not properly angled. 195K is my top damage in it so far.
Nagato was a blast for me when I got a bit of "feeling" how it works. I used Nagato to literary farm High caliber / Confederate medals / flags... And that was before the new MM when you were constantly thrown into t8 battles. Now when you are mostly put in t5-7 games I'm scared how lethal it can be... (well, 200k damage explains that I guess :D)
About the BB shooting at DD and the Overpen mechanic. I once sniped a Mahan from 20km in my NC. I saw him trying to reverse into a smoke screen while exposing his broadside to me and just took a pot shot at him. He went down to the shells. I've also landed devastating strikes on several DDs with strong AP volleys with battleship including a double kill in my Dunkerque. So yeah, BB players need to stop ignoring DDs as a waste of shell reload and just shoot at them.
On my Warspite, turning so that I do not give broadside to the enemy Colorado at 14 km, I am aware of the bow overmatch (and very weak frontal bulkhead on the Warspite) so I want to finish positioning at around 15 deg from the incoming shells, One volley lands on my bow exactly when I was almost finished positioning but not quite, BANG! got frontally citadelled T_T I eventually got the Colorado dealing him more damage than him to me ;-)
Flamu have you tried the Gniesnau AA build? 93 AA rating with full skills, modules, and flag, gives a T7, 7.5 km range, and its highest Dpm are with its longest range AA guns. I still gets 6 Km + Secondaries. If you go to the extreme and drop manual secondaries or stealth, and add manual AA its gets so much better, if my math is right 7.5 km guns are at 330 dps with full buffs and build. I run the AA module and both anti damage modules. Then captain wise BFT, BoS, EM, Super, AFT, Manual AA, and once i have the points vigilance. The reason I play this ship this way is server population at the tier gets a lot of CV's, and DD's. So I set my ship to offset its low main gun count, by becoming an zoning tool. I hope you have a good day, thanks for the content.
i actually play it similar but not quite as crazy on the aa i found that the aa module and maual aa is enough to shoot half a t9 torp squad down before they drop wich is good enough for me
@Flamu, did you hear about the upcoming changes that are going to nerf the bow armor's of most, if not all, of the tier eight and above BB's? Basically 16inch shells will be able to overmatch the armor of any ship, even the Yamato, cause apparantly WG thinks that bow in fighting is ruining the game
Why do you use the static crosshair? The dynamic one changes scale as you zoom in/out, meaning that you should be able to lead the same no matter whether you're zoomed in to the max or not.
I don't really use any of the features on the crosshair that much, I aim mostly based on feel and experience. I've tried different crosshairs and they all felt weird after getting so used to the default one.
Is there a reason for starting your plane at 00:52? I had waited till the first enemy ships had been sighted (min 01:46) But a nice vid. thanks for it.
No reason not to, really. Considering it's up for more than 5 minutes anyway. Better to do it at the start when you have nothing else to do than to forget it later on when you have your hands full.
Do barbettes count as part of the citadel? I've gotten one of those bow-on nose kills on a nagato at point blank range with my colorado, but it was so close I don't think the guns can depress enough to hit the underwater citadel. Our bows were almost touching when I fired, so I must have hit the front of the barbette and scored a dual citadel.
What is the minimap mod you're using? I like that it shows the direction of the targeted ship. Knowing whether a ship is slightly angled away or towards can help land solid hits.
Your rant on fleeing battleships getting hunter by the whole team... I was in my Scharn the other day and had 2 BBs and a DD chasing me for about 8 minutes, I dropped the DD and one BB, and the other was about 10k from dying. The fast traverse allowed me to just weave left and right and land shots and get fires on them while they walked away from our cap, and our team that was behind ended up winning. I can hear the frustration in your voice, those players are totally braindead. I would have been useless if they had ignored me bahahah
Nice video on my favorite BB tier. So if they buff the Nagato's armor, will they also buff the Colorado's HP? It has significantly less than the other BBs in the tier, and even the tier 6 New Mexico. I always heard the logic was it was because it has better armor, but now it won't have any better than the Nagato and is worse than the German BBs as well. Just curious.
What battleships would you recommend a secondary build on? I can't really find any BBs that I really like a secondary build on. Currently at Nagato for IJN, Konig for the germans, and I haven't started up the US BB line :x
Nagato is great with the secondary build. Her secondaries are really underrated and I've gone toe to toe with Bismarcks in her and come out on top at times.
I anlge almost exactly like this and still eat 8k damage salvos from same or higher tier ships, yet I fire at flat broadsides and rarely ever get citadels on BBs at my tier.
Then the shots did not hit your angled hull, but your mucj squishier superstructure which is almost overmatched anytime. Most BB players automatically aim for the hull at close ranges hoping for the big citadel hits. These wont happen, if the target has a good angle.
Nice battle, hate it when team members chase BB's that just kite them. Flamu is it possible to get an update on the Benson fit and skills for team battles please?
Is the armor on the Nagato still bugged? Because I'm having a much harder time keeping myself from getting cited than I was in the Fuso. Also, what exactly IS turtle back armor on the German BBs and why's it so great?
What's with the odd damage numbers you get sometimes, Flamu? Like at 15:05, you get 3046 damage with one shell hit. That's a good 1k under regular pen damage. And even if we assume that the hit ribbons are borked, how can you get 3046 with 16" shells anyway? Three overpens would be 3600ish, no?
You mentioned that WG is going to buff the Nagato's armor - any idea of the timeframe? I'm working my way through it now and I'd love to be able to not blow up if I overextend myself. Every match I tell myself this time I won't end up out ahead of everybody else - and then every match, whether it's because of avoiding islands, torpedoes, or bigger (or more) ships and trying to avoid giving broadsides - all of a sudden there I am, either in the lead or the last to be able to turn around. So better armor will be very welcome!
Apparently there is a 7-11 inch VC inclined deck armour missing over Nagato's magazine, however i guess they r not going to fix it until next three patches or so.
Did you know you sound like Michael Magee, He does a show about his house having paranormal activity on youtube. Just wondering how Anna feel,s about you playing World of Warships, lol.
I end up mostly alone in a 1vs1 against a dd that fucks me and i don't know how to Deal with it. The ship moves and turns so fuckn slow it's really cancer.
It's pointless for a battleship to shoot at a destroyer that's more than 7km away from them. Even if RNG allows you to hit a DD from that range, you'll do minimal damage at best. Better off shooting broadside cruisers and battleships and keeping them off your cruisers and destroyers so they can deal with they DD.
I learn a great deal from your videos, but this was the best. Basic battleship tactics for winning. I really liked the "unconventional way you played Fault Line.
Scharnhorst and Colorado are the perfect example of the average BB player. Staying back and 'supporting' the cruisers (from 20km away).
must keep their ship as shiny as possible right.........
Well, taht Colorado at least have reason to stay afar, Flamu's Nagato isn't alone, he got a whole bunch of DD to support, now if you are in the other BB you maybe able play a fighting retreat, but not the Colo, her 20km max speed ensure that you will never escape. :D

Good lesson on using the basics to win the game.
Great informative video, and the others as well.
Not disappointed for subbing!
Would make a good example vs what we saw from their one in this battle.

i cant get those kinds of hits
and im taking citidels from cruisers.
i cant deal enough damage to get to the B hull either
+Flamu mate, thanks for your advice here. I thought my angling wasn't working until I saw this video. Turns out I wasn't angling quite enough.
Once again an excellent commentary! You shine when you not only commentate on the ships strange and weaknesses but when you also explain what you are doing and why you took those actions. Thats just perfect.

Not being in close quarters with a IJN BB. Since it's dispersion gets more and more dogshit the closer you are.
Awesome video as always. I always learn something that as eluded me and with out having to play 1,000s of matches in a certain ship. I just picked up the Nagato and I am looking forward to tryout what I have learned. Thanks Flamu!

Totally agree, love my secondary build Nagato. Makes me so sad when I see other Nagato captains patrolling the map border.
Turriff Terror
Why not playing german Battleships?
They are so sick brawlers 😄

It's funny how the Citadel ribbon looks like a Nagato.😅
2 years later and you can still get 0 damage pens on full health ships.

I feel you man. Just recently got the Amagi.
i basically just bought it yesterday i got like 10k creds left... need 2 mill for b hull too

A very good video on Naga..... thanks !

How the hack that 1 OVER Penetration dealt 10k damage to Myoko?!!!!
Even Flamu himself is dumbfounded, "Broadsi- what the hell...?"
07:50 and 09:20 damn, i'll link this video to people now. It's what i try to explain to players and get reported for in most of my games >
Great vid mate you got my sub thnx :)
I hear that Antti Martikainen music in the background :D

really enjoying your tutorials on your alt account ty : )
Really nice and informative video. I think the "hit ribbons" are calculated client-side so they're not very accurate, or straight out bugged.

i have problem with those markings too. yesterday in my bayern i shoot a cruiser and score only 1 citadel, no other hit register but i did 14k damage.

He may be like me and is just used to the static one. I tired using the dynamic one and it really messed up my aiming. Couldn't lead worth a damn.

Hi Flamu.. Great tutoring video.. How to you get the target vector and target circle on your mini map when you targeted an enemy ship? Thanks...
Do barbettes count as part of the citadel? I've gotten one of those bow-on nose kills on a nagato at point blank range with my colorado, but it was so close I don't think the guns can depress enough to hit the underwater citadel. nagatos armor wont get better than colorados its just not going to take random citadels anymore
Did they nerf Nagato accuracy sometime around 2018/2019? It used to be awesome.
I just had a 205k damage game in my nagato.
What battleships would you recommend a secondary build on? I can't really find any BBs that I really like a secondary build on. Currently at Nagato for IJN, Konig for the germans, and I haven't started up the US BB line :x
dude the bismark the secondaries turn into a DD's worst nightmare
Not just DD's, those things burn everything to a crisp
Chu-Raya
yup they will from what i've seen
I don't know if you've figured this out yet but American battleships have nothing for secondaries.
Nagato is great with the secondary build. Her secondaries are really underrated and I've gone toe to toe with Bismarcks in her and come out on top at times.
yeah i don't get those BB captain who don't shoot at DD. 3k damage on dd give more exp than citadel hit on battleship.
I anlge almost exactly like this and still eat 8k damage salvos from same or higher tier ships, yet I fire at flat broadsides and rarely ever get citadels on BBs at my tier.

Is the armor on the Nagato still bugged? Because I'm having a much harder time keeping myself from getting cited than I was in the Fuso. Also, what exactly IS turtle back armor on the German BBs and why's it so great?
I need to know how to do that almost perfect angling with my Nagato, tell me how pls
Flamu is a 59% winrate for the gneisenau acceptabe / what can i expect from it when played right?
P.s. i got roughly 120 games in it
What's with the odd damage numbers you get sometimes, Flamu? Like at 15:05, you get 3046 damage with one shell hit. That's a good 1k under regular pen damage. And even if we assume that the hit ribbons are borked, how can you get 3046 with 16" shells anyway? Three overpens would be 3600ish, no?
Damage saturation maybe. That shell depleted the part of ship hp, and the left dmg on the shell was reduced = odd number. It's a theory, not fact.
Good ship unless teammates decide to horde at one objective
You mentioned that WG is going to buff the Nagato's armor - any idea of the timeframe? I'm working my way through it now and I'd love to be able to not blow up if I overextend myself.

How do you get your map to look like that? So it shows where they going and the selected target?
You can’t hit a dd if it’s to far away as a bb
How do you go into bullet cam for a shell you've already fired?
'Z' on a QWERTZ keyboard, might by 'Y' on QWERTY
hi! whats that mod, you used in this video? i mean the HP bars of the other ships in green? thank you
HI...CAN U SUGGEST ME WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD MODS THAT U USE
Mee-yoko.
Did you know you sound like Michael Magee, He does a show about his house having paranormal activity on youtube. Just wondering how Anna feel,s about you playing World of Warships, lol.
What is that mode that show ship's health / green bar?
I end up mostly alone in a 1vs1 against a dd that fucks me and i don't know how to Deal with it. The ship moves and turns so fuckn slow it's really cancer.
Flamu, why don't you use Dynamic Crosshair?
same ticks of mis-aim mean higher error - 50% more! -> use static
could you do a colorado commentary?
yes plz do Colorado!
Will you do an Amagi one?
Yep, once I unlock the Amagi on umalF

After playing with Nagato for a while, officially a trash ! Once uptiered Nagato is Useless. Laughable armor, doesnt matter how u angle, its rubbish

I will not!

How do you get HP of ships on each side of the screen as in the video?
As explained, it's a mod.
