    I’m so glad you decided to do this series, I have low porosity and protein sensitive hair so this is really helpful. I recently started switching up my products, I use the Camille rose line for styling because a lot of their products are protein free which I love. And I use the Shea moisture low porosity protein free shampoo and conditioner. I have to try a protein free gel. Also your hair looks amazing :)

    Try the Ampro curl enhancer for extra dry hair! It's very moisturizing on my low porosity hair. I honestly think you can use it without a leave in because it's very moisturizing. I've never had to worry about my hair being dry. I've had it in for two weeks when I couldn't wash my hair and it still feels like I just used it. It has no proteins, parabens or alcohol. And the best part is... it doesn't have a lot of ingredients!

If any of you know of any other creams, butters and gels that are great for low porosity and protein sensitive hair, please leave them in the comments below so you can help others watching and so I can give them a try and add them into a future video :) PS. Iyda Michael Hi! I have a doubt about The African Shea Butter. My BF bought me one a couple months ago and I never used because I think its to heavy. And I don't know if it's good for my low porosity hair. What do you advise me?

    There are quite a few creams that I rotate through. Definitely the curls twist and shout cream with the jelly. A few others are the cantu curl activating cream. That cream is so bomb, plus it defines and has great hold. My son has a much more coarser texture than I do and the cantu cream then sealing it with mango butter is the only way his hair will stay moisturized for a few days. I'm just going to list the rest 1) Eden bodyworks with the jelly 2) right now my favorite is the Mielle Organics pomegranate and honey soufflé and custard plus the extreme wet line gel. Using that combo and shingling I was able to get a 10 day wng! 3) the as I am double butter cream is just a great straight up moisturizer and their curling jelly (not the coil defining jelly, the curling one is much better. 4) Camille Rose aloe whipped cream gel with eco olive oil or the extreme wet line gel. 5) The Mielle Organics white peony, avocado milk paired with the honey and ginger gel. Absolute favorite cream moisturizer is the Maui Moisture agave mask. Don't worry all of their masks double as leave ins. If I don't put that on my crown first nothing else works. Hope this helps someone.

    I LOVE flaxseed gel. It makes my hair smooth and shiny, and reduces shrinkage for me. I put it on after my leave in. Keep in mind you might lose some volume. Consider a curl activator and a pick. I bounce back and forth between eco styler flaxseed gel and aunt jackie’s stretch flaxseed gel.

    Hello Iyda. I am a man with low porosity hair. Mixed with black and white, but the hair gives away the blackness lol. Anyway, I wanted to say that I've just come across your channel, and am finding it very insightful. I cannot find anything else like it for women or men. That being said I am just starting to truly treat my hair like a crown. I've been all about bald fades and that's really it. I started growning my hair out last summer, but I wanted to start really treating it. Your regimen may not be for me, but I hope to gain some knowledge and begin my own regimen soon. My only concern is that being a male I may be doing everything wrong. I will continue watching and learning, and hopefully I will see the desired results soon. Keep them coming and thank you!

    • @IydaMichael
      @IydaMichael  6 років тому +2

      Hello Jared! Im so glad you find my channel helpful that means a lot to me! I do believe that women and men can share the same natural hair regimen, you just have to learn your hair characteristics like the porosity, texture, protein sensitivity, etc and then experiment with different products and techniques to see what your hair likes. Once you figure that out and remain consistent you will achieve you hair goals! :)

    Yasss, I've been looking for video like this all over youtube. Thanks Iyda for posting this. A tip for getting shine in your hair is to use a hair mask as prepoo before doing your shampoo, rinse out conditioner, and styling routine. I started using a hair mask night before my normal hair routine by damping my hair slightly with water, applying, and twisting each section. then I just tie it up and kind of let it harden and infuse over night (don't even use a plastic cap, basically like if I was doing a twist out). Anyways over about a month I noticed my hair getting naturally more shiny. I use to do a deep condition after my rinse out conditioner and sit under a hooded dryer for 30min with plastic cap (similar to the glamtwinz routine on youtube) but I noticed that my hair does better and gets more benefits from using it as prepoo. Low porosity doesn't like gunk on it at all. Also, I do mix the shea moisture low porosity shampoo with another moisturizing shampoo of my choice, just to make sure the mask is thoroughly washed out the next day.

    • @IydaMichael
      @IydaMichael  6 років тому +1

      Wow great advice girl! So when you say hair mask, are you referring to a deep conditioner? Will it penetrate on dirty hair with product buildup? Let me know, I want to try this!!! :)

    • @1243101
      @1243101 6 років тому +1

      hey sorry for late reply! Yea surprisingly I just use it as a pre-poo on dirty hair and it has worked for me. I haven't tried this with a product that was just labeled as a deep conditioner yet. But I think it will work about the same, especially depending on how much you apply. I think the main difference between the mask vs deep conditioner might just be the thickness/heaviness of the product. But I have done this with the shea moisture jamacian black castor oil hair mask and the garnier fructis whole blends honey mask (this one has cones tho). Not only has my hair grown but its way more moisturized and shiny over time and makes it easier to detangle during my wash day. Its like you get all the benefits over night using it as a pre-poo treatment but by shampooing it out afterward, it doesn't leave a weird film on top of my hair. And it pre-lubricates the strands so I'm not putting shampoo directly on dried out/frizzy hair from the week. And then the rinse out conditioner should give enough slip/moisture to do the rest of detangling before styling. I really do try to avoid over applying product to my hair, I usually only put in olive oil leave in from garnier fructis (cone-free) or low porosity one from shea moisture, one of the gels you mentioned, and a little grapeseed oil to seal my ends and part of my hair shaft to start on day 1 (if doing wash n' go). Its like by day 4 or 5 the product will kind of "fade" cause by then my hair will start to get frizzy/less defined and more volume anyways. especially if I've been just refreshing my hair with a spray bottle that just contains water and a little leave in if needed. So the evening before wash day, I'll just apply my hair mask over night, slightly spritz hair with water if needed to spread product/ twist it up. maybe allow the mask to harden a bit before putting on my scarf for the night. and then go through my usual wash and styling routine the next day.

    Could you educate more about gels? From your video I’ve learned that butters/cream are more hydrating and healthy. And gels seems to be more about definition , but they might not necessarily help the health of ur hair. Are there gels that give a good hold but are also super healthy/improve ur hairs moisture? - coarse wavy hair that’s protein sensitive

The front part of my hair is wavy/straight naturally and it HATES those thick gels like wetline and eco but it loves kinky curly and camille rose naturals curl maker. The back of my hair doesn't care either way but it leans more towards the light hold gels. The back of my hair behaves perfectly...curls when it needs to, medium porosity, medium strand size...but my crown, sides and bangs...lol. They want to throw temper tantrums. Lol

  • @Leah_Tewari

    Garnier Fructis Pure Clean Styling Gel is also protein free and has no silicones, parabens, or dyes and it’s super inexpensive. The hold is even better than the Ampro protein free gels. I do also love the Kinky Curly Curling Custard, you just have to make sure to pair it with a leave-in and, for me, even a cream styler, then the gels.

    Recently tried design essentials and I have fallen in love. My hair is similar to yours (with the exception that my strands are rather thin, protein treatments do wonders for my hair!) so I would say that if you get a chance you should give their twisting cream a try, apparently it is very similar to camille's. A little goes a long way so I feel like I get so much bang for my buck - which rarely happens for me.

    Thank you for your review! I wasn t even considering Curls Twist n shout. I might now. This is the first time i see a review stating flakes with curlaide 😳. What leave in do you use with it ? With regards gel, my favorite would have been Xtreme wetline until i found it contains cancerous ingredients in it. So i will stick with Eco Pink which my absolute favorite, softer hold than Argan with shine and more moisture. I am also curious about Oyin butter and the Mane choice 24 k gel. Like you i am very low porosity (even on my beached strands !) and protein sensitive. However, i know how to balance out protein and moisture. So, i am not entirely skipping products with protein anymore.

      Wow I have never heard of Eco Pink or the Mane Choice Gel, I am going to look into it! I use a really light water based leave in with the Curlaide and even tried it without a leave in! My hair is extremely low porosity! I cant believe your hair is still low porosity after bleaching! WOW! lol

      @sofbubble 6 років тому

      Iyda Michael thank you for your reply. I know low porosity require some extra (you are right even bleached the cuticles did not stay lifted! 😂) Maybe your leave in is incompatible with Curlaide or you a lighter butter. Have you tried the coconut style setter, it s lighter and wonderful. I do recommand the pink eco it contains more water, let me know if you like pls. And yes your hair wonderful !

      They make the same claims about Eco gels containing cancerous ingredients. I think because it’s on a non-living source, such as hair, it’s fine.

    Ok so I have a question,
    I have low porosity hair, and I really want to try a cream as my styler. And I usually do the LOC method. So, when I pick out a cream, am I supposed to get a cream that have heavy/sealant oils (olive oil, castor oil, Shea butter, mango butter,etc,) in them? To seal in the moisture?

    do you use the gel stand alone as a styler or you pair with leave in and cream?

    • @IydaMichael
      @IydaMichael  3 роки тому

      I pair it up with a leave in conditioner and cream or oil before the gel for extra moisture but I have to be careful to prevent product buildup!

    i think i have both high and low porosity in my hair if that’s even possible?? because i’ve used most of these products in my hair and my hair hated it but there’s some parts in my hair that won’t take any product at all. no curl definition or anything when i put anything in those sections of my hair. what does that mean?

  • @kembahall2215

    I thought the Xtreme gel would have worked for me as my hair loves to spit out all sorts of gels - especially Eco Styler. However, I got tons of buildup from the Xtreme gel when taking down my twists - it wasn't flaky like eco styler but it was white-ish and had the feeling of dandruff. I had oiled and moisturized each section of my hair when applying the gel - so I'm not sure if it was just the combination but I was disappointed. I have very coarse and thick 4c hair, by the way!

    • @IydaMichael
      @IydaMichael  6 років тому +1

      I don't use gels (especially thick gels) when doing twist outs and braidouts because I get white flakes as well when I take them out, I only use these gels with wash n gos. Also, the product combo might also be an issue because the gel is a thick gel, you have to be careful with how you layer your products for low porosity hair. The leave in and oil have to be light weight or used in small amounts or you may want to leave out the oil. For my twist outs I only use leave in, a little oil and cream. Maybe also try using a lighter gel like camille rose curl maker. Hope this helps!

    • @fayepatrice1672
      @fayepatrice1672 5 років тому +1

      I used to have the same issue. What works for me is limiting myself to one light leave in (a milk, really). I apply leave in to warm, moderately wet hair and really work it in. Then I layer an oil or whipped Shea butter over that. (I can use those things only if my hair is well-moisturized and I am shampooing well at least once a week). Sometimes I use a curl cream instead, but not both. Then I can use the gel without any issues. A small amount for twists or a generous amount for wash and gos. I have tried so many gels and wet line really is the best one. It’s the only one that has ecostyler level hold without damaging my lopo hair. I also use mielle edge gel. Amazing btw!

      I just fell in love with it recently and had one of mu best wash n gos with it, the video will be up soon! It's a god sealant but not a good moisturizer for me, but it retains the moisture so well and clumps my curls so well and provides so much shine!
