Outdoor review and honest thoughts about the real turmat reindeer stew meal.
This outdoor real turmat meal is very easy to cook. Just add hot water and wait 8 minutes.

20 Squid for a packet of stew ….. wouldn’t pay that even if it was Unicorn meat 😱😱😱
🤣🤣🤣
Who's paid £20 for it? It's about £9 at most.
Unicorn ones are a lot more expensive Desmond its a lot of trouble catching the buggers
You need to hunt unicorn in remote backwaters of Scotland. Not as easy to track as Haggis but a decent challenge to stalk & claim for a feast. Gotta put the effort in if you want to eat well!
😂😂😂😂😂
Hi Dan, £20 is way too expensive for this. I’ve seen it for £12.99 from Base Camp Foods which is still expensive but as a special treat every now & then doable. Great video as always 😊
Yep to much for packet meal would make something better with 20 quid
Wouldn't give 12quid for it either. Rip off
Love how down to earth and how easy your videos are to watch. £20 for a meal though best taste good for that price. That's a couple of days food money for me .
Hi Dan,
Hope you’re well.
I have actually tried that,as someone gave me one for Christmas (as it’s Reindeer),for my January bivvy night.
I must admit to it tasting quite nice, but I don’t think I would pay for one myself.
All the best.👍🏾⛺️
Thank you for watching
I like all Real Turmat food. When I go hiking to Finnish lapland, i've planned that trip for weeks if not months. I dont care what it costs. I planned that. Then I carry these foods.
When I go for just over night, I take fresh food.
It is all just a bought weight that you carry. And I have to say that these Real Turmat (Norvegian), are the best tasting that I have tried!
Greetings from Finland...
Dan,
The reindeer stew is around £10 from Base camp foods, Amazon have you over on camping foods
Turmat in Norwegian translates roughly to Hiking food.
Tur (sounds like tuur with a long vowel) = hike
Mat (sounds like maat with a long vowel) = food
I might be a bit off on that me being Swedish, but roughly it should be something like that.
Keep it up, love the videos 👍👋🇸🇪
In Sweden we pay 5 euros (50 sek - xxl se shop) definitely is the best hiking food you can get. Great video thank you 🌞⛺👍
you can tear the package once more and you don't need a long spoon 😉
Good honest informative video Dan yup I've had that meal a few times and some of their other one but they are getting a bit pricy
Over priced but 100%
£20 !!!! That’s almost twice what we pay here in Norway. An insane price waaaayyy over the top! REAL is my goto drytech on hikes.
I made a test of all Real Turmat meals some years ago. It’s in Norwegian I’m afraid, but there is a conclution at the end of the last one.
My favourite meal right now is the Bacalao and the Salomon.
You have an excellent point about the corners, be sure to stir propert 😊👍
Stay frosty 😊👍
G'day,I've recently found your channel and I'm loving all the videos so far.Have you tried/done a review of the picogrill flat wood stove?
Keep up the great work.
English, I can’t wait to see your new pickup truck buddy. You are the man buddy!👍
New pickup ??
@@englishwoodsman , I thought you had trouble with your vehicle and needed a new truck to get around for camping. I have a 2023 Frontier and I think you will love it. It will definitely get you and your gear to your camping destination.👍
@@englishwoodsman , yeah, you can get one with your UA-cam money, then you can really get around to camp and make a lot more money buddy!👍
Would keeping the empty packet and re-fill it with pot noodles/cheap noodles from supermarket work? Is the packet re-useable?
Great vid Rabbit 20 quid..that's a lot of Lidl Irish Stews and ziplock bags !
English Dan, you are turning into a great cook buddy!🙃
For £20 quid a throw it would have to sort my camp and provide silver service! I often find that very salty meals actual have seaweed the salt substitute in them.
Turmat in Norwegian translate to F - - -ing Expensive, good review as normal Dan keep up the good work. 👍
I really love the Real Turmat meals. However, I only buy them as a luxury item when I really wanna chill. It's too expensive having these meals as a main source of food on your hikes.
Personally I haven't noticed any package with too much salt, that might be personal taste. But what I have a problem with is I always get some dry chuncks that have not been hydrated, so I need to have it soak in the water for 5 minutes over the original time.
Lovely video btw, as always!
Nice I like the food reviews :😊
Should be good for 20 quid. But I do like your food video's good viewing and tent reviews. Well done. Cheers. B. K
Thank you 👍..
Thank you 😊
@@englishwoodsman 😎
£20 put me of straight away. Thanks for the review but don't buy it at Christmas because you'll upset the children. Santa won't have anything to pull the sleigh 😂. Stay safe Dan atvb 👍🦊
love to see you on a walk with andy beavers and paul messner
Great camping food use all the time hiking
But expensive
@@englishwoodsman
Worth it after a long hike .
Nothing worse than hiking 15 + miles a day and have a rubbish meal .
They do really fill and warm you up before crawling into your sleeping bag for the night
From the school i studied back in -90 as i know have ”produced” one off this real turmat
Ola skinnarmo
Real nice warm person and nice to speak with and also a good sailor ✌️
Real means what real means and i think as an born he is Ola from Gothenburg he has an great sence off humor because
Tur means hiking both in norway and Swedish and mat means food in Swedish
English Dan, it looks good buddy. You are the man buddy. Did you get that new Nissan Frontier 4by4 pickup truck yet from your UA-cam earnings so you can explore more great camping destinations?👍
I will post it now 🤣🤣
£20 ouch, haven’t tried the Real Turmat meals yet, but when I can get a meal and desert from Wayfayrer for £7.50 it doesn’t really make sense to me. I think if I was woodland camping I’d rather spend that on a decent steak or beef burgers, but I get what you’re saying, those dehydrated meals weigh so little and are just quick and easy. Still waiting for Go Outdoors to sell some space ice cream now summer is here lol
Thankyou for watching
25 dollars US ! Umm, no, but it sounds good ! Thanks for your video. It is always a good time and informative!
i have to admit, they are expensive but its honestly worth it. only thing ive tried that comes close are some MREs
20quid Dan I’d be wanting the antlers as well for that far too expensive mate for a meal might be good but I wouldn’t pay that no chance just rippin people off is what I think take care mate and all the best 👍👌
Dan,what do you call a deer with no eyes………. no idea!!!What do your call a deer with no legs or eyes………..still no idea!!!!!Keep up the great work. All the very best 👍🏻🏴👍🏻🏴👍🏻🏴
Ace review mate my pov is £20 it's not for me but I bet its nice tho
Tis a lot of money but the salt can be helpful if you've been on a long hike and need to replace electrolytes and stop cramps etc Great vid as always EW :-)
Apparently it's made from 8 reindeer legs,
That's two deer.
£ 20 bad price for a meal it should say less salt that looks a nice meal thanks Dan for a great video 👍
Thankyou for watching
Yes I have add it before and you can taste the salt in it
I like how Dan sticks his noses into thing (even non food).
"...I can smell pepper.... I can smell potatoes... Gravy..." Like a fine wine connoisseur 😅 great review
£20?!?!?!?.....I just got 2 meals and 2 pints in my local pub for that! 😳
Reindeer is the highest protein content in the Deer Family. Higher than Muntjack Roe Fallow Sika and Red Deer. Although all are higher than Beef. It all depends how much Protein you need. As just a basic over nighter does not require Rudolf
Its only expensive depending on persons income😊 very convinient😊
Just got one of them and a Reindeer Soup for £19……you were ripped!!
So it seems 🤔 😕 😅
Hi Dan , The reason I have never liked to eat these types of meals , has always been the salt content , puts mr off , I would have to drink so much water , I would drain a Pond ! 🙂😂.
lol. for a minute there I thought you said £20!
Only glampers are paying that much for 500 calories.
I did say £20 🤣🤣
We have stews in the U.S . I like beef stew😊
Hi Dan, bit of an expensive meal that ! You could of got a kebab meal deal and got change for £20 :) The meal may of been extra salty as reindeer meat is dried and preserved using salt !
Top draw video as always Dan, so a big thumbs up from deepest Dorset 👍! These are probably the gold standard of freeze dried meals and I reckon a fair price for what you get considering all the tech involved in production, and don’t forget being made up north there is a price to pay!! ATB👍
£12.99 Basecamp foods Dan.
🫢🫢🫢
Have you tried exotic steaks from kezie meats Dan? I rather liked the kangaroo steaks, the do mixed steak boxes delivered to your door
I’ve got to try that stew , don’t care how much it cost ,I love deer meat
£20..... no way for a single meal. A 24hr ratpack will not cost anywhere near that. Love the channel, keep up the good work.
British forces 24 hour ration pack, i can't justify spending £20 on one meal, i could afford it, just too much money for what you get, good video though, i always like to see what's available, take care Dan, see you in the next one mate 👍⛺️
Thank you for your comment
😲😲is the pouch gold lined?
Never looked
@@englishwoodsman was a joke bud coz its so expensive🤣
It would have to be genuine rudolph for me to hand 20 queen heads over for abit of stew
For twenty quid, I'd expect Rudolph!
When out wild camping you should be eating nuts berries dry fruit and grey squirrel 🐿️ they are good meat and sing to the gods
It would be a lot cheaper to dehydrate your own foods that way you can have meals you enjoy . And its easy to do :)
Real turmat meals are not dehydrated, they are freeze dried, and it makes alot of diffrence to the taste. Dehydrating loses loads of the flavour
That's one way of doing it
@@pluffer96 I dehydrate foods all the time and have no problem with flavour . freeze drying is better i agree and that can also be done in the home
Salt is needed in relation to your sweat. Athletes, construction workers, roofers, asphalt layers etc can lose grams of salt through sweating. I over sweat just sitting still, and always travel with salt. I have not gone past the shaking/collapsing stage into full convulsions, coma and death due salt lost, but that outcome is a real outcome for many unfortunately. It is a meal meant for a person being physically active and actively losing salt through perspiration.
Christmas is cancelled, Dan's just eaten Rudolph. 😁
20 quid is insane. Locally they cost about 110 nok, which is 8-9 pounds.
20 quid for viltgryte? That's insane. It's less than 10 here in Norway. You can probably blame Brexit.
I like the idea of reindeer meat, Ive previously been vegetarian and Im just starting to eat meat again. I think youve a chance of the animals being kept in a relatively cruel free and sustainable environment. Now the "but" - £15 is just way too expensive! I wish them luck but that is just beyond my budget!
Far too expensive for a dried meal. I'll stick to cooking fresh. Great video again Dan
£20 for only 578 calories!
2,000-3,000 calories required, on a normal day.
That would be an expensive option!
If you’re not carrying your load too far, stick to ‘proper food’.
However, a few of them in your Bergen will be good ‘in case of emergency’.
They cost 99kr in Sweden, that is 7.20£. You should take a trip here and stock up 😂
£20 bloody hell id love too 😂😂😂
I dont see a point in these things unless you are doing a multi day hike with no supply stops.
Its not fresh.
Its expensive.
'But its lightweight' once water is added, really how much lighter is it than my steak?
After a 15k hike a few cans of beer and a steak for me, but each to their own
Hello mate
REAL TURMAT might be the 'Bentley' of freeze-dried meals. From watching so many reviews over the years, this BRAND seems to be the way to go: flavor and calories at the end of a cold, wet day. MY summer hikes in hot, humid environments required extra salt. These packages met those requirements.
Totally agree 👍
I wouldn't pay extra because it says reindeer meat.Reindeer is the same taste as Deer, I don't think many people can tell the difference in blind tests .
20 pounds is waaaaaay to expensive. In my country we can buy Real for about 11-13 euros.
My indian Saturday night cost less than £20 with delivery bloody hell lol
🤣🤣
I think I'd give it a miss, I'm pretty boring when it comes to food and £20? Too dear for me 😂
Too dear 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Reindeer meat along with moose meat is the best. Reindeer is expensive these days. As a friend once joked a reindeer is practically a vegetable! They eat mushrooms, lichen, all the natural foods (along with supplemented hay). They are generally not full of chemicals and other nasty things.
12.99 base camp foods.
Yo Dan, a decent meal in a restaurant for £20? I don't think KFC or Maccy's count really mate 😉
20 pound wow 😮
I was ripped off
a lot of venison there mate … and very dear ….. sorry I couldn’t resist 😂
Great channel ⛺️👍
Love it 😀
For 20 pounds I can buy a porterhouse steak at a restaurant with two sides. I would not pay that much for a bag of dehydrated anything.
You are going to eat Rudolph 😱😱🤣
😱😱
Quick Google and it seems to be £12.99 at basecamp foods
I would never pay £20 for that out of principle alone.
That’s a complete rip.
i think i would do some messing around making a meal at home and bringing it with me rather than paying 20 pound for one meal i could make a lot of meals for that kind of money
Lot cheaper at basecamp foods
Yer, Basecamp foods are really good.
Yep that’s where I buy mine
Done a search on google to see the price Dan was bumped
I keep forgetting to look there
🤣🤣
20 quid guys a lot of Lidl Irish Stews and ziplock bags !
Abit deer for me
I wouldn't even choose a £20 meal at a pub/restaurant, nevermind a stew in a packet!
I would spend the money on a t bone steak and mushrooms 🍄
Steak nice 😋
Jesus christ Dan, where are you buying these meals from?
It's a bit dear that bit of dear
Amazon is a rip off I pay £10 for mine, they are good
£16 right now
For folk who want them and are willing to spork out them, their choice, I'm far roo tight.
I looked just before you said Dan,£13
UA-cam must be paying well lol
As if mate
Dan I feel as if your camping a lot less.
I wish I could camp all the time, mate, but I have a full-time job and a family so sometimes camping as to wait so that's why I make videos like this.
I could never eat Rudolph lol.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
Me thinks 15 quid for that meal would even be a tad pricey Dan, never buy them because i personally believe they are a rip off but that is me, and I actually do enjoy cooking the bit of grub the traditional way, but everyone to his own.
That's not expensive , that's tacking the piss !"
20 freakin qwid ppl are insane
Well thank you 😊
£20, I hope its rudolf for that money!
Nooooooo
