You're right, the way they can't even touch anybody now he would probably average 45 legitimately call because he never ever would miss a free throw and it's a guard him he's the best passer I've ever seen! Even Magic Johnson said so and he's probably the second best passer not to mention LeBron who is basically a hybrid of them both but didn't develop his 3-point shooting until late but he's the best passer today by far and he would admit that he tried to emulate Larry Bird bypassing and playing through back injuries and Etc like LeBron did as well for many years of his career

Why don’t we let Steph’s dad answer since he lost multiple 3 point contests to the Legend. I’ve been a Bird fan since 1978. I grew up in Rosedale, IN (population 750)which is about 10 miles north of Terre Haute, IN where Indiana State University located. On a hot summer day in the summer of 1978, I was 7 years old. My grandpa gave me a quarter so I could go get a Coke from the pop machine in front of the Hickmans IGA grocery store. I rode my bike the couple blocks to the store. When I pulled the quarter out of my pocket I dropped it and it rolled behind the machine into this drain grate. I tried like heck to fish that quarter out but couldn’t get it. I was back there half crying and cussing. I had heard a car with a loud muffler pull up but I kept trying to get that quarter. All of a sudden I heard this voice say, “What’s wrong kid?” I looked up and saw this blonde headed giant looking over the top of the machine. I told him I lost my quarter and my Grandpa probably wasn’t going to give me another one (you gotta remember in 1978 you only got a Coke about once every couple of weeks if that). The blonde headed giant bought himself a Coke. He looked at me and said “You can have this Coke if you promise you’ll quit cussing”. I promised and he handed me the Coke. He bought him another one and got in his car and took off. I recognized him because my Grandpa and Dad watched ISU basketball on the television. I went back and told my grandpa what happened and I don’t think he believed me. I drank that Coke sitting on my Grandpa’s front porch. I kept that bottle and still have it today. It was my equivalent to the kid getting the Mean Joe Green jersey in the Coke commercial.

Stephan continues to be one of the only bright spots of today's NBA. The man makes an effort. But Larry was a small forward, not a guard, he also put up double digit rebounds and is in the top 10 passer in history. Not to mention, he knew how to win by making his teammates better.

Here’s the biggest factor that nobody talks about in the modern three-point shooting era. There is absolutely zero Defense today. I have never seen players go to the basket, less contested, shoot less contested, jump, shots, not thing on the boards, not follow their own shots, no aggression no real challenges or physicality. Half of today’s players would have a mental breakdown trying to play in the physical error of Bird. The other half would spend their entire season out with minor injuries.

Not a Celtic or Bulls fan, but I have Larry Bird and MJ as my 2 headed GOAT. Larry for being the best all-around player. MJ as a defender and points-producer. Switch Bird and Curry into each other's era and who do you think would be better? In the 90's BTW they made the 3-point line closer to the basket by 1 foot and 9 inches. They have moved it back, so it doesn't affect Curry, but It does the 90 players.

A Bird fan here. An '86 Celtics believer, Jordan fan, Magic fan, Shaq fan, and a Kobe fan as well. Having stated so I think there is a much more important aspect in the discussion of basketball greatness than our favoritism toward certain players, and that is changes in the rules of basketball and in the way the game is being officiated now which are hurting the entertainment value of the game. Watch some of the 80's and 90's era games and compare them to current NBA games, and I think the difference is clear. It's just not the game it once was.

People have to realize that Larry was only attempting about three to four 3 point shots a game on average because It was brand new to basketball and at that time basketball was played mostly in the paint to midrange shots. I was just a kid when the Lakers and Celtics ravelry was at its height my father was such a Celtic and especially Larry Bird and Kevin McHale and Robert Parish or just all of that team. I can’t say I followed basketball as much as my dad still does but thanks to your videos man I’ve had such great nostalgia looking back at some of these old clips. I greatly appreciate you, and there is never been anybody better far as just not only playing his position, but just being everywhere always put his body on the line to me. He hast to be one of the GOATS!! Thanks for the content man

Lifelong Lakers Magic Johnson fan grew up hating Larry Bird, and it’s just in the last few years I’ve had enough maturity to realize Larry was better than Magic. It’s an about hitting big shots and winning the game. Who cares how many you got if you keep losing. Larry could score from anywhere, and if he didn’t want to he was as an amazing passer as Magic if not better.

Old NBA was definitely more physical and in your face than todays game. People have more space these days to shoot. My pick is Larry.

The Birdman rules! You had to watch him night in and night out. He only missed 2 clutch 3’s in his career: 1 in the ECF in 1985 against the Sixers because he broke his shooting hand in a bar fight the night before (but Boston still won the series, but then lost to the Lakers in the Finals. Bird’s hand was visibly swollen the whole time. He didn’t complain or make excuses, and still put up decent #’s, though he wasn’t as clutch); and 1 in 1988 at Boston Garden. Everyone was shocked both times when he missed, he was normally THAT dependable.

You can't go by numbers between the 80s and today's basketball! . Because the 3 point line did not exist until 1979! Bird was the first player to use the 3 ptr. as a weapon! He didn't grow up practicing 3's like the kids today! Coaches discouraged players from actually even using the 3 point line! When Bird did 2 or 3 ...3 pointers in one game.... the coach told him he was taking too many 3's!
