You must forgive us old heads for the "glazing" 😂 I think its just because many of us are excited to have someone from the younger generation finally open minded, and wanting to learn about what we've been saying. Maybe we can be a bit too enthusiastic at times, but i know i love watching these videos with someone new to it all 🙂 Great reaction ❤

Magic is a great passer and as the point guard it was part of the job. Larry might be called the first point forward. Lots of times he could take a shot himself but passed because he knew his teammates needed to stay involved. That is where the claim that he made his teammates HOF comes from.

Larry Bird is my G.O.A.T.for the following reasons. He has won the ROY, 3 straight MVPs, coach of the year, Executive of the Year, 3 championship rings, 2 finals MVPs, he swept MJ twice in the playoffs. Larry has beaten EVERY HOFplayer he has played against

MJ had about as much help when he came into the league as Bird did. They went out and got help with drafting McHale and getting Parish and eventually DJ. They ignore the fact that Bird took that team and won 61 and MJ couldn't get a winning record. MJ always was a great player, but Bird had the leadership above everyone except for maybe Bill Russel.

Over time Larry has become my overall #1 player of all time. As an individual player it's going to be either Larry, Jordan, or Wilt. But Larry could do it all either at a solid pro level or at the highest elite level. Before he injured his back in '85 he was three time All-defense 2nd team. Not highest elite but solid pro level. So he was a solid defender, even if Jordan was a better overall defender. Consider this: Jordan's first NBA season was '84. Bird injured his back in '85. Talk about the worst timing to have a career-hindering injury, since both are in the Eastern conference.
For a four year stretch from '84-'87 he averaged at least 50/40/90 shooting, and 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists, with 2 steals and 1 block. During that time he won three consecutive league MVPs, two finals MVPs and two championships, and three consecutive 3 point contests. Even Curry hasn't won three 3 point contests, and is 2 for 7 or 8, I think. Bird is 3 for 3 in three point contests. And the first time Bird ever played with a 3 point line was his rookie year in the NBA.
As a trash talker Larry was on his own level. He was a thug, a menace. Even Jordan said he learned how to be a better trash talker from Larry. At one point Larry challenged the entire NBA by saying "no one under 6'7" can guard me!" Dominique Wilkins said one time that right before a game Larry walked by the Hawks locker and told them "no one in here can guard me", as he was walking out to the court to warm up.
John Stockton tells the story about how before the game started, Larry walked over to the Utah Jazz bench, stood there, and said "I feel like...43." Then he walked away, the game started, and he scored 43 by the end of the 3rd quarter.
Reggie Miller tells the story of when he was a rookie he tried trash talking Larry while Larry was at the free throw line. He starts saying something and Larry cuts him off: "Rook, you gotta be kidding me. I'm the best f-ing shooter in the league, understand? In. The. League. And you're here trying to tell me something?"
And Larry only wanted to play against the best. Wilkins tells another story of how Larry was disgusted at the low quality defense the Hawks were playing and he just gave up the ball, passed the play, and moved on to being a defender. He didn't even want to play against a poor defender, LOL. And who else trash talked the opposing coaches like Bird did many times.
I saw a video clip one time, I wish I could find it again, where Bird has the ball, the Bulls coach calls a time out, and takes Mike out of the game. And Larry is standing there upset and points at Mike, because he didn't want Mike to be taken out of the game. C'mon, that's next level craziness. I've tried finding that clip but some day I'll find it again!
I mean these stories are so over the top and unreal that I wouldn't believe any of it if it didn't come from the other players.

Magic has more flair with it, but the difficulty level of Larry's passes is higher while making it look easy to boot. I'd say they are pretty even as a whole, but I do prefer Larry personally.

Kudos to you. Jordan was overwhelmed by superstars in the 80's, but was an absolute phenomenon. Jordan had to get past the Celtics, and Detroit in a very physical era. I love Larry, and his overall game. Mr clutch, and off the charts basketball IQ. Michael was called Air Jordan for a reason. He was phenomenal. I miss that style of basketball. People will always disagree over GOATs, just tune out the static and the haters. Everyone likes who they like, and that's okay. People out there take it way to seriously. It's cool you're taking the time to learn about these old players. You should watch some old games; back in the 80s they were fun. They played defense on every possession. They're great basketball, and the big guys would get in the paint and fight, good stuff!

I highly consider Rule Changes over the years. Especially how easy it is to get higher offensive stats in today's (so-called) NBA.
Going by all-around skills, making teammates better, heart and competitiveness,. Here is my Top 10 Goats after 45 years of watching, playing and analyzing.

The one shot that his form loo looked absolutely perfect was the trainer's lap shop. The called shot is ridiculous, but the shot itself was one of the prettiest shots I've ever seen. Forget the Hawks' bench, just his form alone was amazing.

Magic made easy passes look hard, but Bird made hard passes look easy. Magic is ahead of Larry in GP, FG%, APG, and SPG. Bird comes out on top in MPG, 3P%, FT%, RPG, BPG, and PPG. Both are among the greatest NBA players ever.

It has to be difficult to appreciate old players. We can only go by our own experiences. For those of us that lived during the 70s and 80s and got to watch all of these players game by game and year after year it is different than looking back at highlights.
I don’t remember anyone talking about who the goat was back then. I think people appreciated great athletes no matter who they played for.
Such as who didn’t like watching little Spud Webb dunking the basketball? How about Barry Sanders running the football?
Of course everyone has their favorite athletes which is different than who the goat is.
My favorite basketball player is Bird. I am very grateful I got to grow up watching Bird play.

Dr J is incorrect about Bird's rookie season. Bird went to a 29 win team and with 1 player change to the roster in ML Carr and a new coach in Bill Fitch, Bird was the main reason Boston won 61 games = a 32 game turnaround. Look at what Bird did at Indiana State = a small school with zero basketball history!!!!, Bird as a rookie won the ROY award over Magic by a big margin and was 4th in MVP vote. For the next 8 seasons in the MVP Bird was 2,2,2,1,1,1,3, and 2nd again. Bird was like a swiss army knife = Bird can provide your team with anything it needs for the win!!

@Tommy TV. I'm one of the "ol' heads" that have watched your channel but has yet to subscribe. Please permit me to share some "ol' head" wisdom with you as it was shared to us by the legends of basketball.
Today's game is more like a reality tv show with personalities that are so convinced of their own importance in society that they believe the masses hang on their every word so that they can then tell you what to think on social issues. In the meantime, players like Lebron try to figure out who they're going to vote off the island next so they can get with that other player whose been giving them the eye every time they play against each other. While doing all of this they believe they have a responsibility to share their thoughts on the lamentations of American culture, and at the same time promote footgear they get rich off of that are made by political and religious slaves in China.
The League is beyond soft. Most of us "ol' heads" can't watch the game. The finer points of the game are ignored, and instead we are forced to watch a presentation of politically correct euphemisms uttered by commentators desperately striving to be as relevant as their momma's tell them they are.
Michael Jordon expressed several times during his era of play that he always had to give everything he had every game because someone may be in the audience who had never seen him play before, and that might be the only time they could afford a ticket to go to a game. Michael wasn't the only person from the era of the 80's and 90's who thought this. Most of the players shared this attitude which is obviously missing from today's game.
Michael also believed that when it came to thoughts on politics that he should keep his mouth shut on that topic because Republicans like to watch basketball too.
You see, the greats respected their fans. They understood that the fans were why they were able to earn such an extravagant living. They understood that everything they had was due to their fans.
Many of us "ol' heads" used to play the game, but we can't anymore because we're old and broke down. We love the era we grew up in and became fans in. We played, or at least attempted to play, like Our heroes. We practiced their moves. We tried to incorporate them into Our individual games. We wore their sneakers. We wore their haircuts. We wore their jerseys. We played Our hearts out just like they did and left it all on the floor.
Since we can't play the game with Our bodies anymore, we play the game in Our minds and talk a lot of smack because that's all we have left to give the game. If younger fans would take the time to listen, we will share Our knowledge and perspective of an era younger fans can never experience.
You'll be there one day, so you might as well learn how to do it from us.
With that in mind, if you want to grow your channel, it might be wise for you to take a similar approach to your channel as the greats did to the game.
Us "Ol' Heads" are you fan base. We are your subscribers who enjoy your reaction and discovery of Men we knew were GOAT's. Don't get mad at the old farts in the room. Engage us. Learn from us. Share your thoughts with us. That's why we're here.
    Your fans.
    Be nice to them.
There are other reactors who are pleasantly engaging, and they have much larger fan bases than yours.
That is not a criticism or a slam, but a statement of fact.
Be pleasantly engaging, respecting your fans, and your channel will grow too.

thats why I got jordan AND Bird as my CO GOATS.. im a 90s teen, and the bulls had stiff competition (Knicks, Pacers, Jazz) but it wasnt like the 80s with THOSE teams.. Bird beat EVERY superstar he faced including Jordan (who cares if jordan was young or had bad teammates, the GOAT should NOT be getting swept back to back years), Bird won a ring in his 2nd year, took a 29 win team to 61 wins his ROOKIE year.. Bird has better ALL AROUND numbers than Jordan (tho to be fair Bird has better all around stats than ANYONE).. yea, for those of us that KNOW, Jordan and Bird are right there together.. on their own island. playing golf. cursing at each other.

    • @patrickreynolds9853
      @patrickreynolds9853 6 місяців тому

Add Magic to that island and I can agree with you wholeheartedly. You can’t really separate Bird and Magic in this discussion. They made each other better. Their rivalry saved basketball. Bird and Magic brought basketball to the mainstream. Jordan took it worldwide. For that reason, if no other, the 3 of them will always be the greatest of all time. They were meant to play when they did with the greatness they played with.

    • @soramirez5473

@@patrickreynolds9853 I got Jordan and Bird together. and THEN Magic and Kareem next tier.. im being objectional here. I dont care what they meant or whatever im going strictly stats and Bird has better stats than magic in EVERY category except steals and assists..
      so FOR ME its
      Jordan/Bird
      Magic/Kareem
Lebron, Kobe, Shaq, Wilt, Duncan, Olajuwon, Oscar Robertson..
      KD, Curry and the rest.

I find it amusing that on many/most of the sports reaction channels, the reactors speak of several GOATS. GOAT = Greatest of All Time. Logically, there can be only one in each sport. Perhaps we should just say that several players are among the best of all time, rather than saying they are among the GOATS.

Larry Bird is the first player to accomplish the 50-40-90 club, the only person in NBA history to be named Rookie of the Year, 3 point Champion three straight years, MVP three times straight (When competing against Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Dr. J, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, James Worthy and many more), Finals MVP, All-Star MVP, Coach of the Year, and Executive of the Year. Also Hall Of Fame Head Coach Pat Riley once said " If I had to choose a player to make the winning shot of a game. I would pick Michael Jordan, but if I had to pick a player to make a shot to save my life. I would pick Larry Bird."

When discussing who is the GOAT you have to take into account the era of basketball you are in or comparing. I will give ya an example. I think Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is the GOAT of the 70s and Bird the GOAT of the 80s. The game was very different in both eras. There was no 3 point line in the 70s. It was introduced in 1980. Todays NBA is incredibly different then the 80s or even the 90s. I played in the 80s and 90s. I remember when they started calling "reach in fouls" in the 90s. That totally changed the game from how we played in the 80s. It is very hard to compare players that are using different strategies on how the win the game with his eras rules. I think MJ is the GOAT of the 90s hands down and Coby in the 2000s. But thanks for the video it was very entertaining. Not all of us old heads are hard headed. Its just tuff for us because the game is so different for when we played. lol

You need to remember that Larry played young Jordan, not MJ with all the championship rings. Jordan was the most athletically gifted player of his era. Bird was a better team player but nobody in his era could beat Jordan 1 on 1. Other players said Jordan made you look slow but Bird made you look stupid. I hated Larry Bird because if the game was close or the Celtics were behind you knew that a##hole was gonna score in the last 2 minutes or even the last second of the game. If you watch any of Larry’s games you will notice he makes passes and shots every game left-handed. He does it so naturally it is easy to miss. Larry is left-handed, just watch footage of him signing a contract or autographs. It is a right-handed world so lefties use their right hand much better than right-handed people use their left. Now imagine guarding a man who can instantly switch from right hand to left to shoot or pass. I never saw Larry shoot left-handed 3 pointers but closer in he was deadly and he could pass accurately with either hand. Why did he shoot right-handed? I’m guessing his love of baseball. Larry was from a poor family with older brothers. I bet all their gloves were right-handed and Larry could learn to throw right-handed or take the glove off every time he threw the ball. I say this because I’m a lefty and had the same problem.

Had Barkley just gotten a ring or two he would probably be in that conversation.
He was REALLY fakking good but people often forget just HOW good he was due to rings ALWAYS comes into the conversation which automatically leaves him out regardless of his skill.
He was on the Dream Team, widely considered the best team ever assemblesd.
He was hand picked for that team so at the very least he was top 20 in his era.
Add a ring to that and he would pop up another few steps.
No one would ever suggest that Barkley was THE goat, but I think he wouldve cemented himself more permanently as one of the "All Time Greats".
I still think he is even without a ring, I just consider him unlucky 🤣

Nice reaction and here is a link to one of the best Larry Bird passing videos I think you will enjoy. I agree with Bird and Magic were the best passers but Bird had crazy tip passes you don't see from Magic.

MJ isn't better. They changed basketball rules and made it softer for Jordon. They needed a new hero as the greats were retiring. Jordan was a no show in the 80's tough basketball. Jordan was the beginning of the soft whistle filled game. Don't even bring up that disgrace lebron ..GOATS don't flop week minded sell out

Please watch the video "greatest passer ever with re-edit". To put Bird's passing skill into perspective consider this = Bird vs all other forwards in his era = PF and SF = Bird finished #1 in assists per game for 8 seasons! Bird was #2 in assists per game for 3 seasons and was 4th once. That is domination at the forward position. Magic led the league in assists per game 4 seasons and was #2 in assists per game 6 seasons and was 4th once and 7th once. So Bird actually dominated his position more than Magic! Magic was a better ball handler and a slight edge in passing ( his assists totals for me) but Bird was a better shooter, scorer , rebounder and defender than Magic. Magic was more popular but Bird was the better and more complete player. Bird created the 50-40-90 club, did it 2 years back to back (87 and 88) and was so close in 85 and 86 that if you total Bird's stats for those 4 years = Bird averaged 50-40-90 over 4 consecutive seasons!!!!

Here's why mj is my goat 🐐: MJ led 11 categories more times than any other player in history, 2nd is Wilt's 6 categories....
teams and winning aside lets look at individual stats on top 10 leaderboards of all-time, how many times they led the NBA in a category:
MJ led the NBA 134 times in 19 categories
Wilt led the NBA 138 times in 19 categories
Kareem led the NBA 78 times in 15 categories
Lebron led 59 times in 12 categories
The key is that MJ led 11 categories more than anyone ever
Wilt led 6 more than anyone ever
Kareem led 4 more than anyone ever
Lebrons leads 1 category (tied with MJ for 9 times leading in vorp).
Times finishing in the top 3:
MJ 170 times in 18 categories and leads 9 categories more than anyone ever
Wilt 190 in 19 categories and leads 7 more than anyone ever (1 tied with MJ)
Kareem 175 in 24 categories and leads 4 more than anyone ever (2 tied with MJ)
Lebron 136 times in 15 categories and leads 5 (2 tied with MJ)
and compared to each other in the playoffs per game stats:
MJ leads 6 of the 8 categories he's in, 2 more than anyone ever
Wilt leads 3 of 5 and 1 more than anyone ever
Kareem leads 1 of 4 and 0 more than anyone ever
Lebron leads 1 of 10 and 0 more than anyone ever
The only knock on Wilt is his playoff production...but MJ led more times than anyone in NBA history in 11 categories in less time...almost double Wilt's 6...no one, including Lebron is even close. That is just player dominance, no team play or rings or titles/accolades...

  • @V12BenzAMG

Here's your answer: First, it was basically MJ by himself...i grew up watching magic/bird/thomas..then Jordan/kobe/lebron and so on...I watched these full games as they happened...not just UA-cam clips for me....
MJ and ? vs Magic Kareem Worthy Cooper Green..
MJ and ? vs Bird Parish McHale DJ Ainge...
MJ and ? vs Isaiah Dumars Laimbeer Rodman
It was never the Bulls vs any of those teams, it was MJ by himself vs those great teams...even scoring 60 he lost cuz it was basically just him..also MJ got swept by teams that made it to the finals and/or won the finals....put any one of those other players with that dru#*ed up mid 80s Bulls team and they don't win either...when MJ finally got a better team around him they were unstoppable but even with a better team make no mistake, he was still the best player on all those Bulls teams and carried the lions share... MJ played in a tough conference...hard to get past Celtics, Pistons, and more...for instance if Lebron was in the same conference as the Warriors, Spurs or mavs he would have only made half the finals he did since they would have put him out before the finals...
    Let's look at MJ's 84/85 teammates:
Orlando Woolridge, Quintin Dailey, Dave Corzine, Dave Greenwood, Steve Johnson, Caldwell Jones, Ennis Whatley, Wes Matthews, Jawann Oldham, Sidney Green, Rod Higgins, Charles Jones, Chris Engler
Orlando is the only recognizable name but still just an average player…how is that group supposed to compete against the Celtics/Pistons/Lakers?
85/86 MJ was out with a foot injury
    Let's look at MJ's 86/87 teammates:
Charles Oakley, John Paxson, Gene Banks, Dave Corzine, Earl Cureton, Brad Sellers, Sedale Threatt, Steve Colter, Elston Turner, Mike Brown, Granville Waiters, Ben Poquette, Darren Daye, Fred Cofield, Pete Myers, Perry Young
...getting a little better…at least Oakley and Paxon are recognizable names
lost to the Celtics 0-3 (was best of 5)
    Let's look at MJ's 87/88 teammates:
now we finally add Pippen and Grant but they weren't the players yet that they would later become…they only avg'd 7pts a game at this time
    lost to Pistons 1-4
    Let's look at MJ's 88/89 teammates:
Pippen and Grant are starting to produce at 12 to 14ppg…added Cartwright, Hodges
    lost to the Pistons 2-4
    Let's look at MJ's 89/90 teammates:
NOW Pippen Grant Cartwright and even Paxon were starting to click and turn into the players the Bulls needed them to be
    lost to the Pistons 3-4
    NOW the 90/91 team
Jordan, Pippen, Grant, Cartwright, Paxon, Armstrong could finally match/beat/sweep the Pistons Isaiah, Dumars, Rodman, Laimbeer, Salley…
See the progression? 1 to 4, then 2 to 4, then 3 to 4, then 4 to 0 sweep…THAT is how you build a team to get over the hump..
So the answer is MJ didn't beat Bird because bird was already mvp with a championship team (one of the best ever) already... Bird had better players, chemistry, teamwork..MJ had to build his up over time to get past the Pistons/Celtics..that being said Larry was a beast that definitely deserves a seat at the goat table discussion 😁

Id probably agree that the really over-zealous fans of Bird is just as bad as the Jordan fans.
But the Jordan fan base have a WAAAAAY hinger amount of such fan.
I see a couple of obnoxious Bird fans in every comment section, for sure.
But in the Jodan (and LeBron fans, lets not forget those guys) they seem to be the mahority.
I once said Jordan is definitely one of the great4st players to ever wal the erarth.
But Im not sure you can ene name just ONE guy as THE one and only goat when its a team game and there are different positions.
There will always be things you cant compare in an objective and fair manner.
I was fakking *_swarmed,_* like a 12 year old girl at £psste!ns island, but super hostile Jodran fans screaming about how "Jordan dont share" followed by entire paragraphs of profanities and pejoratives.
I didnt even say Jordan wasnt the best, I said I wasnt sure and that I didnt know a concrete and ojective way to make that judgement.
But that was more than enough for the entire fakking chatt to just descend on my.
    🤣🤣🤣
