Curry has to be set to shoot his 3 pointers. I can’t remember the last time, coming out of a time out Curry shot a 3 down by 2 points with less than 5 seconds left to win the game. Larry Bird and Reggie miller could be fighting for position without the ball catch it with 2 seconds left on the clock and sink the 3. That is the difference.

Steph and ray allen shot threes their whole life. The nba diidnt implement the 3 until the year before bird came into the league. So he literally developed the 3 during his playing time in the nba. Imagine how good bird would've been at 3's if hed practiced it his whole life like Steph and ray Allen. Hes one of the best to do it and literally was learning as hes doing it 😂😂

3 point line was introduced to the NBA 1979-80... Bird's rookie season. His teammate Chris Ford made the first one in NBA history (10/12/1979). Bird was on the floor when it happened

    • @iggles73

Bird played his whole career with the 3, it just wasn't utilized b like it is today. Bird averaged 3.1 attempts per gm in the season he attempted the most. Andrew Toney was a lethal shooter, but he rarely took a 3. In his 38pt game vs Boston, I don't think he took a 3, and most of his makes were jump shots. Hand checking being allowed back then, and not today, is the biggest change from the 2 eras.

My family is a rodeo family. We own a bunch of horses. We have 2 that are high bred, high dollar and absolutely gorgeous. They win a lot. I own many more horses that are bred well, not as beautiful or striking, but they give you the same performance every time. Their work ethic and technical abilities will always get you in the top 5.
That’s the difference between a workhorse and a show pony. Some are just nice to have, a joy to behold and they earn their keep. But those workhorses are the backbone of our operation. Hands down.

@@Newportnews98 In 1976, the ABA and NBA merged. *The 3-point shot, at first, wasn't part of the package. The NBA stayed firm in the game's traditions. The league didn't adopt the 3-pointer until 1979--Magic Johnson and Larry Bird's rookie season.* While certain college basketball conferences experimented with it in the early '80s, the NCAA didn't universally implement a 3-point line until 1986, with high school basketball following suit a year later.

Those are two separate questions I believe Curry is the best three ball shooter of all time. But, his 47% from mid range doesnt sit well for the best. Bird was 51% from mid range. Ive watched the NBA since 1972. Ive never seen anyone hit more clutch sots at all ranges than Bird. And I was lucky enough to be there when Bird hit that shot against the Suns. It was like midnight at the morgue when that ball popped the net.

Players flop and get the foul calls more today than in Birds era. No blame. He’s responding to dude’s stupid comments regarding Larry Bird. He opened his mouth and said some dumb things, and Cooper responded to his comments and argument concerning the league, fouls, Larry Bird, and 3 point shooting. That’s it. He’s giving him a history lesson. The only blame is being put on Reddick for not knowing what the hell he’s talking about. He’s either ignorant or trolling to get people talking about him. LaBron was an example of how prima donna the players are. That wasn't about LaBron himself. That was the easiest and most high level version of what he was trying show. The difference? Watch the 1986 NBA finals. The Last game, where the Boston fans had blow up dolls dressed as Ralph Sampson (Rockets Center) hanging from the upper deck. People holding signs saying "Ralph I'm 5 foot, you'd hit me too!" and booing him every time he TOUCHED the ball. All because he slugged one of the Boston bench players during game 5 in Houston. Both the bench player and Sampson got ejected. Do you see that in ANY game today? No. And some of that is good, but some of that is bad.
Look. This video wasn't about Steph Curry or Larry Bird really. It was JJ Reddick mocking '80's basketball. In a couple of sentences he insulted an entire decade of basketball. Larry and Curry were just the instruments of the chaos.

I don't think you're doing it intentionally but you can only judge a player by what they did in their era because you can't compare growing up shooting 3's your whole life with just getting a 3 point line your first year in the NBA. Whatever your opinion of Curry or Bird…Bird won the first three 3 point contests …and never entered another one…Curry has been in 5 and didn’t win…forget three points…Bird was the founder of the 50-40-90 club…two years in a row…50% from the floor…40% from 3 point range and 90% from the free throw line…plus he joined Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain as the only 3 to ever win MVP back to back to back…3 in a row…and as a coaching 1998..voted Coach of the Year…and as the front office guy…in 2012…voted NBA Executive of the Year…he may not be your best 3 point shooter but he was high in every category and one of the best passers of all time…25 points a game..10 rebounds..6 assists…a couple of steals…and 90% from the line…and the 3 point line did not exist until the year after he signed his first contract…it did not exist…and he sat out a year after double Achilles surgery…in the Pacers playoff game…going for a loose ball..his head smacked and bounced off the floor…after the trainer looked him over, he came back out to play with a fractured right cheek…a concussion and double vision and scored 17 more points…

It's not moving the goal post. The real argument is what does "the best 3 point shooter" mean? The person that makes the most 3 pointers? The person with the highest percentage of successful 3 pointers? The person who makes the most clutch 3 pointers? The person who won the most 3 point contests? You had some good insight but I think you were quick to shoot down the arguments. Good reaction though made me think.

If Curry played in the 80s & 90s he'd be MARK PRICE! Mark Price would avg more points and more assists than Curry;Price had more talent!

Size matters:Bird was 6'9 to Curry's 6'3(Maybe)....Much harder to block a 6'9 shooter than a 6'3 shooter! Today's game=LOL NOT ALLOWED TO PLAY DEFENSE!!! In the 80s & 90s Curry couldn't take the punishment; He'd be out of the league in 5 or 6 yrs with injuries.

Great job fem. J.J. Reddick is a total embarrassment. Larry is the most clutch player in NBA history! do I believe Bird & Curry are the best 3 pt. shooters of all time? YES. Do I think Larry cares? Not one bit.

its way more than the refs, it's the nba and money, the nba realizes that points equal money, the game has evolved and the nba has followed with it, that doesn't make it right or wrong, it is what it is

The current NBA is Powder Puff, the guys fall around and scream like toddlers do different than the soccer players to, I can't even watch the game anymore but then again I grew up watching the Celtics and Lakers battle it out

The statement of the slightest bump of a player shooting a 3 has nothing to do with the refs. It has everything to do with the rules of today. Michael Cooper is trying to say the rules are different from today to back in the 80s. The rules allowed for a more physical game back in the 80s and have changed for player safety. Curry happens to play in a different era. Bird played in an era where Papa Curry hit Bird so hard that it almost knocked him out of the game.

I agree. JJ Reddick was decent. Curry is FAR better than him. Heck, I don't even like LaBron but I know LaBron is an amazing shooter compared to Reddick and even compared to Curry. And yeah, Cooper would have locked him up and probably sent him crying on the bench. Larry Bird thinks Cooper was the best defender he had to go against.

Bird in his first season didn't even have a 3 point line. Even after it was initiated, it wasn't practiced that much until the 90s.....and definitely not for big men of the 80s...unless you're Larry. Comparing those of today that practice it as guards for 90% of their shooting vs then? It's silly.

Currys the greater 3 point shooter. Birds the better mid range shooter. Currys better free throw. Birds much better clutch. Theyre both great.
