Thank you, thank you, thank you. Was searching for a video like this with 100% information for plant lovers. Thank you also for getting down to business and treating us as if we were adults who need this information to help the plants we care about survive the winter in the best possible shape.
Oh wow, I’m very lucky if I can get it up to 40%. I mist some of the plant but even with a humidifier, bowls of water placed randomly and jars of water sitting on my heat registers it averages about 30% 💚🙃
I was gonna ask the exact same question. My are all sitting as close as to a large balcony window without getting too close the rad cabinet. I just do the finger check every couple days and whenever dry about an inch down the top soil, water thoroughly. Also gotta rotate them eveytime I check them.
Great tips! I like to take advantage of cold winter days when I long to be outside to go around and wipe clean all the plant leaves. I use a diluted mixture of neem oil, Castile soap, water and rosemary essential oil so it also helps with any pests who might be eyeballing my plants, and gives a nice light shine to the leaves.
Great tips! I'm nervous about caring for my plants in the winter since I've gotten them during the summer but I'm feelimg confident that they will do well.
Thank you for this video! I started collecting plants in the winter time, and a couple have died. I realized I was over watering and had reduced the humidity by having the heater on. You’ve helped me saved my other plants! Thanks!
Finally!! It's Mid February and I'm debating about re-potting some of my plants that are cramp in their nursery pot. I know that in the spring I'm busy with school and social life( a social life that barely exists) so I wanted to repot as were heading to spring soon(like end of February/beginning of March). Thanks so much for the video.
Thank you so much for this video!! My apartment is always cold in the Winter because they're never consistent with the heat so I had to enclose my plants in plastic covered greenhouses. So far they're doing great. I also added a humidifier, and I have a grow light with two bulbs that I can turn from side to side to give all my plants a chance to get some light, and a grow light lamp that I switch from shelf to shelf to do the same as my other grow lights. Hoping to get a better grow lighting system next year but for now they're good enough.😊
Thanks for the tips! :) I love those pots on the top of your shelf. Also, I literally bought a satin pothos a couple hours ago and seeing yours is getting me excited for mine to grow that long! I love the texture of the leaves!
This help me a lot for someone (like myself) I’m having a hard time with one of my plant. It gets drafty in my home and I need to replot it because it out grown the container pot. I’ll definitely will refer to this video. I’m curious as to what other advice you have for plant parents who are just starting out.
I grow succulents, and some of them are summer dormant, so I have grow lights and a heating mat for them so that they flourish during the colder months. I actually also find having them, in particular, nearer a heating vent (but not where it gets a draught) because the soil doesn't stay wet as long when they are watered.
Great tips (: I actually find myself watering my plants twice as much during the winter because of the fact we have to run the heater. Our house is too old and it is too cold out here not to run it. Then I would just have dead plants because of the cold :p & your Satin Pothos is beautiful !
My indoor citrus seem to really enjoy being misted a couple times a day. All the heat vents are near windows so there's no place to keep them away from the hot dry air AND give them lots of good light.
I have radiators under every window in my house, so it's really dry. I found out that putting damp cloth over them provides a little bit humidity, also protects the plants from heat. Also I noticed that my plants are actively growing during winter (it's bright and warm in the house) and they are stagnant during summer, their cycle is completely messed up.
4:04 Frizzle Sizzle 😱😍🤩😍🤩😍🤩 Great tips! I for sure agree with all of them. Here in the desert I water a few less often and the others just hang out & do well with maybe 1x a month watering. Way to go, starting with the tradescantia the size of your freaking head!! 😍 For reals though. Thanks for making content. Videos are smooth & effective. Cheers. 🌱❤️
Some great tips! Here in the UK it gets so dark over winter that unless a houseplant is a shade lover its days are numbered. It's even too dark in my tropical greenhouse without supplementary lighting! 🤣
@@epicgardening Haha yeah we should really be a lot colder based on latitude alone - but the gulf stream keeps us 'relatively' mild - the flip-side being overcast skies. You'll find lots to see in the UK - just not much sunshine! Have a great trip! :)
I've seen people position mirrors in their garden outside, to cast more direct light, inside. I will be trying it next winter. Here in Australia, we're in the middle of summer . So access to light, is definitely NOT a problem at the moment. :)
@@epicgardening We had a few bushfires, about a month ago, surround us. But conditions eased and we can look forward to Christmas again. Others, not so fortunate. Our neighbouring state, really saw the most damage - and still is. Houseplants became my lifeline, when my garden outside, started dying from the drought. They make me feel happy, seeing green again - and a little more confident life goes on. :)
Great video Kevin! Humidifier is a great idea, i have started doing that recently and can see a little bit of improvement in overall plants. Since my plants are not very close to windows so how long the grow lights should be on each day? And at what height is should be from the plants? Also, please share the link to the growlight .TIA
I typically run mine at least 12hrs/day, and as close to the plants as possible w/o burningi them though in my leaning bookshelf that's hard as they're vertically stacked
Hi - I'm overwintering a naga chilli plant this year for the 1st time and I have trimmed it right back as per your previous video and it has now grown a bunch of new leaves - These are sprouting from the thick main stems. Do I need to trim these back or just let them grow?...thanks you and love your vids!
My place is unusually humid it seems like all year around. It's generally 60-70% without a humidifier 🤨 Starting to worry about mold becoming an issue😕 I'm in the northeast 🤷🏻♀️
@@epicgardening oh! That's a relief! I do have a small fan on a 12hr timer on the floor pointed to the ceiling in order to circulate heat 😊Maybe that's why I haven't found mold yet? Thank you!

Funny you have the tradescantia there, because I already almost killed both of mine haha Thank you for all the tips, I definitely still have a lot to learn!
I try to water only from the bottom. And I watch the plant’s form - I can tell when they begin to lose their ooomph. Foliage droops ever so slightly - sometimes even stems will begin to droop. Sit them in a sink of water for 15-20 minutes and they wake up!
I am super interested in the daylight bulbs. I know you suggested soltech, but is there a more affordable bulb you would suggest that i can just pop into a lamp i already have? Im looking at miracleLED on amazon. Is that worth it or a waste?
Kev, your guests on the vid tried to upstage you (3.29). Also what cam are you using?I want to see what I can't afford. That cam is good. Did a good job on your eyes. Oh and the vid was good also (: )
Actually, peperomia's are not dormant during winter. You can still reduce watering since less water loss during colder months in pots, so soil water retention is higher than summer (but that might not be the case if you have a furnace/air ventilation from heating your home).
Great video! I actually just shoved all my plants together in one room and called it the plant hospital..because of better light and well neglect.🤦🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️..Where did you get that ladder looking plant stand? Thanks for the great info!
I dont think my plants have any idea it's winter. My monstera has 5 new leaves as well as a few of my pothos. I have a grow light and diffuser I just use as a humidifier. 🤷♀️

We live in a very cold climate so our heat is on all of the time. I find my plants dry out faster in the winter even running a humidifier 💚🙃
Im running 60 to 70% humidity atm 70% near windows 60% in the room it does drop down to 65 and 60% if its windy outside and cold.
Oh wow, I’m very lucky if I can get it up to 40%. I mist some of the plant but even with a humidifier, bowls of water placed randomly and jars of water sitting on my heat registers it averages about 30% 💚🙃

OK YES i needed a video like this. and GOOD LAWD ... some of my plants are doing some weird things now that its winter. especially with water ...
Yeah, can be very funky! Observation is key
In the winter, I like watering all my plants from the bottom as to avoid mold on top of them. It seems to work well for me. :)
I do that quite often myself!
This may sound dumb, but would watering the plant from the bottom cause root rot??
that satin pothos is beautiful, wow!!

Step 2 place powerful mini sun near the plants.
Step 3 "optional ignore plants."
Damn, forgot to add this epic tip
But why is my soil drying out faster in winter? Should i just let them stay dry? 😖
You probably have dry air, sucking water out of the soil. I might water *more* in that case
With a a grow light, is that similar to giving your plants direct or indirect light? Assuming the grow light is directed at the plants.
Hard to answer, the answer depends on the strength of the light and how far away you place it from your plants
Could you do a care video on Albuca spiralis 😊😇
