Is it because it's overtime and they want to encourage movement? or do these same stalling rules apply to regular time? It looked to me like he was trying to escape, at least in the last sequence when Nick grabbed his leg.
This was a very well fought match and at the end of the day Nick was the only one to score any real earned points with that take down so that to me makes a champion, if you win a match by technically points and rules you don’t win
In my opinion, that was totally on Fix. Even though Suriano had grabbed his headgear, Fix stopped hand fighting to point, causing Suriano to get to the legs and get a takedown
Nick is right that Smith was workings the refs. The hands to face protest was clearly bogus. Also, Nick clearly pushed, not pulled on Fix's headgear. Fix did a lot of stalling. Suriano's win is legit. So disappointing of Smith to try for a cheap victory on technicalities.
If you stay under the hips for 5 count you get warned for stalling. It’s been a rule since 2015. Soooo the clock was at 6 seconds and when the time ran out he got called for stalling with one second left. I feel like the refs gave that to Oklahoma state. If the refs didn’t call the stalemate in the tiebreaker this match would’ve been a robbery and I think Rutgers would’ve appealed in my opinion but it really didn’t affect Dayton cause he made the finals 3 more times but unfortunately he lost all 3.
I wanted Suriano to win but I have one question. If he did not pull down on the headgear then why did Fix reflex fully push his headgear up immediately following Nicks release? Look close and ask yourselves why adjust if there was no movement.
Personally, I thought this was the best match of the entire tournament, if not in the entire season of 2019. The only other match in the tournament that went into overtime was McKenna and Diakomihalis, but that one wasn’t as hyped up as this one. And personally I would pick both of these guys to beat Diakomihalis who was the champion
If you have a national title on the line why try and win off a violation? Fix literally stops mid takedown and starts complaining he was pulling his head gear. Sorry but him and his coach always try to win off a technicality.
As a wrestler. Wrestling at this level where the your opponent is just as good and your takedown attempt can majorly backfire on you and can cost you the match. Experience really counts here and heart. You really have to give it 200% the whole match. If you let up for 5 seconds you will loose. There is no glory or paychecks for these guys. It’s the ultimate sport. You are out there all on your own. It goes by so fast.
Not if you're completely a demigod at folkstyle. I was good at folkstyle, but I realized I was so much better at judo, and I could actually try and get a submission on someone without fear of giving up back points. I don't hate on wrestlers or wrestling, but I have met very disrespectful, overly confident wrestlers. We don't typically see it at the higher levels but we did in my HS team.
RIDING TIME! What referee stops an NCAA finals match with 9 seconds left. Sorry guys - this was a gift to Suriano - he did not earn it - the match was 9 seconds from finished when the ref allowed Suriano a second chance - he had already lost the match!
@@doublewidesurprise6016 There's also judo. I did judo before wrestling, and then found freestyle suited my style of wrestling and the grappling I was used to in judo was similar to in freestyle wrestling. Don't get me wrong, I love it at the more competitive levels, like State and college levels, but I can't stand it for regular HS and college wrestlers. It's too boring.
Fix stalled for the entire minute of the first round of over time, then Suriano got stuck with a 5 second stall call, I think the ref is justified in not letting Fix double boot Suriano for 20 seconds after all that

@@rugbyfan9417 He wasn't working towards anything, and he had just stalled the whole match, it sucks the ref had to call Suriano for stalling but then Fix getting called stalling evened the match out
The stalemate in OT was the worst call of the match. Can't fault the refs on the headgear call, nothing could be seen with Fix's hair, seemed like it was a headgear pull but no chance that was getting reversed.
To be honest, that was pulling on the headgear and prevented fix from taking his back. Probably should have been overturned. No hands in the face though idk what they were complaining about with that.
Can someone explain to me how in double overtime if you are on top and throw both boots in they call a stalemate in 10 seconds … Fix I had him flat as a pancake and they call staling….
it was a BS call, there were a couple bad calls on both guys. Answer: there is no answer because no ref should call a OT stalemate in that position with 9 sec left. Either way I was stoked Suriano won it.
Just curious. This match occurred almost 7 months ago. Doesn't the NCAA own the rights to its own tournament? Then why did it take so long to get this up on UA-cam?
LMAO!!! Suriano is a serial QUITTER! He quit Penn State under Cael Sanderson after his 3rd loss! He quit the super32 in high school after he lost. He quit the Olympic trials after he lost and wouldn't even wrestle his consolation matches! He quit Rutgers... If he had stayed at Penn State he could have been a 3X NCAA champion. Now he will leave college with one MCAA title and that was a gift from the ref that stopped the regulation match with 9 seconds left on the clock. Strength and stamina - Nick wins - skill and technique he gets beat EVERY time!
11:49, giving y’all one second, but 11:50 you can clearly see locking hands on suriano, fix has both knees down and both hands down. Insane that wasn’t called. And suriano most definitely grabbed headgear
I remember people always saying wrestling is the toughest sport, but these petty hands on the face calls is a shame. Coaches and guys are actively seeking the point from it, that rule needs to be changed or eliminated altogether.
personally i don’t think he grabbed the head gear as a wrestler he’s only pushing the head but the headgear so happens to be there when we go for the head we hit the gear and there is no movement showing the head gear is stopping fix’s movement at all the gear stays compleltly still

It looked to me like he was trying to escape, at least in the last sequence when Nick grabbed his leg.
This was a very well fought match and at the end of the day Nick was the only one to score any real earned points with that take down so that to me makes a champion, if you win a match by technically points and rules you don’t win
Fitting for Suriano and Ashnault to be Rutgers' first champs.
Suriano is a legend
In my opinion, that was totally on Fix. Even though Suriano had grabbed his headgear, Fix stopped hand fighting to point, causing Suriano to get to the legs and get a takedown
Nick is right that Smith was workings the refs. The hands to face protest was clearly bogus. Also, Nick clearly pushed, not pulled on Fix's headgear. Fix did a lot of stalling. Suriano's win is legit. So disappointing of Smith to try for a cheap victory on technicalities.
Man -- best match ever. What a great match!!!
Thanks for watching!
That sit out was crisp
Can someone explain how Suriano is stalling at 13:30 mark? He's supposed to let them escape or have base under him?
He grabbed it it’s clear as day!!
Anyone know the name of the song at the end when Nick is celebrating
how do both wrestlers have a warning, is Bob your uncle
Üa
Personally, I thought this was the best match of the entire tournament, if not in the entire season of 2019. The only other match in the tournament that went into overtime was McKenna and Diakomihalis, but that one wasn’t as hyped up as this one. And personally I would pick both of these guys to beat Diakomihalis who was the champion
I love seeing the Sirianni family Rejoice but that dude grab the headgear No Doubt
why did the camera pan out to Jupiter for the reversal??? Geeeeze🙄🙄
15:42 oh my god..
Suriano is probably the last dude you want to wrestle
The announcer saying "He's got his hand on it, but not pulling it down" 😆😆🤣🤣 YOU KIDDING ME!!!
Look at how ripped you have to be to win at this level. Crazy. GO RU!
RIDING TIME! What referee stops an NCAA finals match with 9 seconds left. Sorry guys - this was a gift to Suriano - he did not earn it - the match was 9 seconds from finished when the ref allowed Suriano a second chance - he had already lost the match!
Fix was wrestling for a violation or a ride out with legs. Made no real attempts at takedowns. The better wrestler won. No violation.
GREAT escape by Suriano!
I've been getting hooked into wrestling , god its entertaining 🙌💪💪💪 I'm gonna take classes and tryout for the JV wrestling team next year!!
Good luck man, there’s always programs you can do before then
@@doublewidesurprise6016 There's also judo. I did judo before wrestling, and then found freestyle suited my style of wrestling and the grappling I was used to in judo was similar to in freestyle wrestling.
Freestyle is definitely better, in my book, than folkstyle. Don't get me wrong, I love it at the more competitive levels, like State and college levels, but I can't stand it for regular HS and college wrestlers. It's too boring.
one of the best matches in history
At the end of the third overtime period, why was the match stopped with Fix on top? Was that a stalemate call?
You mean when it stopped with 9 seconds left? It was a stalemate
Fix stalled for the entire minute of the first round of over time, then Suriano got stuck with a 5 second stall call, I think the ref is justified in not letting Fix double boot Suriano for 20 seconds after all that
@@seanhenry6802 I dont think So. Honestly he was working the top well he was getting the 2 on 1 and reworking his position. This match was decided by the red
@@rugbyfan9417 He wasn't working towards anything, and he had just stalled the whole match, it sucks the ref had to call Suriano for stalling but then Fix getting called stalling evened the match out
Because staller fix was stalling with legs.
The stalemate in OT was the worst call of the match. Can't fault the refs on the headgear call, nothing could be seen with Fix's hair, seemed like it was a headgear pull but no chance that was getting reversed.
Suriano is world class man
Fix won that match ALL DAY LONG! What ref stops a match with seconds left and a guy legged in and riding?!?!?! It was a gift from the ref!!!
I can watch this over and over let's go Rutgers let's go NJ
We need to keep are homegrown talent in Jersey
This comment did not age well
To be honest, that was pulling on the headgear and prevented fix from taking his back. Probably should have been overturned. No hands in the face though idk what they were complaining about with that.
James Chapman he grabbed the headgear but he definitely wasn’t pulling on it. He stiff armed the guy and just had the head gear in his hand.
@@nkyryry That's still illegal lol, you can't use headgear to improve control of your opponent's head
@@alexmiller1018, I mean if your not pulling on it, there’s no extra advantage so no change in control really
Dont stall either like fix does
Suriano's career high school record in Jersey was something like 159-0...crazy.
and yet he called himself a late bloomer HA!
Fix was 168-0 in Oklahoma. But he still has not attained a title in the NCAA
Nick Suriano Osman enigma... and enigmas are always interesting.
How do you call a stall on that???
In the first OT
Fix was absolutely hosed with the locked hands, and the first stall call coming about 18 seconds after Suriano made no attempt to return him.
Sorry if John smith's golden boy is gonna forget to never stop wrestling.
Just curious. This match occurred almost 7 months ago. Doesn't the NCAA own the rights to its own tournament? Then why did it take so long to get this up on UA-cam?
Nick D they want you to pay to watch it
Suriano deserved the win. He was screwed on that first call.
Suriano is the best escape artist in collegiate wrestling hands down.
That is what wrestling is all about what a match
"can you give us a definition of HANDS TO THE FACE" lol its pretty much in the name.
What’s the beat called in the beginning of the video ?
Help! I can’t stop watching UA-cam wrestling matches. They keep popping up in my suggested videos.
17:52 lol Home Depot music kicks in
11:49, giving y’all one second, but 11:50 you can clearly see locking hands on suriano, fix has both knees down and both hands down. Insane that wasn’t called. And suriano most definitely grabbed headgear
Suriano was over the shoulder, he would be allowed to lock hands there
someone tell me what fixs shoes are called i want them
I remember people always saying wrestling is the toughest sport, but these petty hands on the face calls is a shame. Coaches and guys are actively seeking the point from it, that rule needs to be changed or eliminated altogether.
personally i don’t think he grabbed the head gear as a wrestler he’s only pushing the head but the headgear so happens to be there when we go for the head we hit the gear and there is no movement showing the head gear is stopping fix’s movement at all the gear stays compleltly still
i wanna know which one of them will compete in mma in the future!
Down Hill I have insider for nick making his debuts in 2021
I thought i was the only one who would think of this
Maybe 2022 for Nick both took a Olympic redshirt so he has one more year of eligibility. Fix is a freshman will be a sophomore in 21
That stalemate in TB1 was crazy
Great outcome. Fix certainly IS a stud, but Soriano was the outcome I was hoping for.
