That double stall call really favored DeSanto. Suriano is much more likely to be called for stalling in general because of his style against ranked guy (he takes more time setting up his shots, is generally looking to ride more than to turn, etc.). Not surprising that bit him in the 3rd period. Would like to see Suriano face a top guy and have the points be limited to offensive scoring and escapes.
I also want to be clear I'm no fan of Suriano. I think he stalls a lot and personally don't watch his matches anymore (watching this for DeSanto). Because of how he wrestles that double-stall hurt him more.

Both stall calls from the top postition were unquestionable considering the ref does a five count while suriano is under the hips to determine the stall call

Nick suriano for the title. I can see it. I know he can too. Iowa always gets extra points at home we all know. Still my favorite team though... But Nick is definitely my pick for the title
i disagree with one of the stall calls although, you're not supposed to hang on the legs, and you're supposed to be trying to return the guy to mat and not just trying tick away at the clock. ultimately desanto did not need the points but that doesn't mean the ref doesn't get in your head.
Brian K I see it all the time, when the person on top is ahead by like a point he could just be breaking him down and trying to keep him down but not working on scoring points which would be stalling
In wrestling, a wrestler is deemed to be stalling if he's not working to improve his position. That's why you'll hear referees tell them to "wrestle." If you are on top and your opponent is on the mat, the way to improve is by trying to turn. If you're on top and your opponent is up on his feet, the way to improve is by bringing him back down on the mat. For the person on bottom, the goal is to escape. If he chooses to "ball" up as to not allow himself to get stretched out by his opponent's legs or get turned by something like a half nelson, it's considered stalling. So stalling isn't just about wrestling at the edge of the mat or running from your competitor.
I hate to see him lose but no matter what Suriano always loses with class. The look in his eyes when he shook hands at the end was the look of defeat, but he got his revenge and won a natty.
Reminds me of Iowa matches long ago. It's like the refs get into the Iowa style themselves, and reward the pushing, tie-ups, and not attempting actual scoring techniques with watching the OTHER guy for stalling. The Refs are affected by the immense pressure from the crowd and give in to pleasing them. Then the opponent will get frustrated and not wrestle as well. You can see it on Suriano's face in this one when he looks at the ref-- it's accurate as he knows things are not in balance or fair. I'm not even favoring him over Iowa-- I have been a huge fan of many Iowa guys and Gable inspired me over and over... AND he usually tried to score, not just push. Somewhere over the years it transferred to shoving until the opponent is tired and THEN you finally attempt to score. The only way to be fair is to stand your ground as a ref and sometimes that's going to disappoint the crowd. They're only human, so I can see where it would be tough to not give in with all that hype there... I mean DeSanto simply pulls his leg away from a Suriano shot in the beginning and the crowd goes wild. That can happen in any other match, hundreds of times with most crowds giving slight applause but patient enough to wait and see what else happens. DeSanto has been coached to do the same as the past Iowa guys-- if you're going to stall, at least stall pushing forward. After a few minutes of that, it's still not wrestling. It's not even entertaining.
5:26 just click here a few times in a row, he made him miss a tie up and it made him fall.. That was so disrespectful lol NASTY.. IDK if he meant to do that but the fact that he did at this level of competition says a lot. I don't think Austin is supposed to be putting so much downward force into a tie up that he literally fell when he missed. It's even better in slow motion and Nick was even in a position to score from it if only he was a little bit tighter with his motion stepping over .. that would be awesome if someone could actually master that move and replicate it so that it would actually be effective in a live match. I am sure it would be effective against someone who has a habit of tying up aggressively like that.
(copied from the dual meet video post) Scouting DeSanto is both easy and difficult -- on the one hand, expect 200% forward pace every damn second. On the other hand, yea -- good luck keeping up with that pace! Thinking that you can try to close DeSanto in the third period is like expecting to finally convince the judges in the 5th round against Nick Diaz! He forces your offense like the pickiest of MLB sluggers -- throw a strike or I'll literally walk over you. Also Suriano played right into DeSanto's strength to stand and basically brawl, instead of create movement, use fakes, vary attacks and overwhelm DeSanto with attack angles. The playbook on DeSanto is starting to look like this: if you don't make a statement in the first period and bank some ride time(drain his tank a little), then expect an earful when it's finally over and you can breathe.
@@ImOnlySIeeping I don't think you understood my comment. Why do I need to name a match where he was drained? Connect those logical dots from my reply's specific language to your question. I'll wait.
How would Randy Lewis fare against Spencer Lee at 125lb?, or Austin Desanto at 133lb?. Would it be close or has technique and conditioning changed to favor these young men?
What people on this thread need to realize, Seth Gross, or no Seth Gross, the 133 lb. weight class will be the toughest to win at the NCAAs. There will be no "sure bets" this upcoming March in Pittsburgh. DeSanto won this battle over Suriano. It does not mean he won the war. This will definitely be a possible matchup in March.

How would Randy Lewis fare against Spencer Lee at 125lb?, or Austin Desanto at 133lb?. Would it be close or has technique and conditioning changed to favor these young men?
So much for all the people saying “I can’t wait til Suriano gets ahold of this kid. He’s mentally unstable and gonna get worked”
N.H 133 is super stacked this year.
N.H this man got handed 2 free points
Austin love u bro
133's this year is stacked and for good reason. Not sure who is going to win this year NCAA's.
2022!
Edit out the coaches yelling what the kids already know. They are phenoms.
Desanto can be the next Ironside. But he's gotta get his head right.
At the Big10s Suriano avenged this loss. Will these two meet in Pittsburgh and who will prevail?
I'm really starting to like this guy. Tough, big heart.
Not smert
Quick call on the stalls and on the last second takedown.
That match should have gone to overtime.
Maybe I am biased, being a former PA wrestler myself, but Desanto represents the essence of fire, hard work and skill that makes the sport of wrestling great. Kid is epic, period.
Agree I dont mind his antics at all...his fire is what makes him so good...
They may have made a mistake telling Suriano to cut him. I get the reasoning, however: Suriano is damn solid on his feet.
4:09 “men’s basketball”
ZeevLoser the basketball game just ended so the channel changed to this match
ZeevLoser Oxymoron. Real MEN Wrestle.
Ref completely threw the match. DeSanto better not count that as a win
Desanto for life!
Reminiscent of his last high school match
Srry, how the heck can you stall from the top?
Pretty easily?
Whatch any leg rider, 95% of what they do is stalling.
I don’t like how this one was scored.
I see lots of anger from Desanto as he "SLAPS" hard with ties ups and hand fighting.
Desanto is a beast!!!
Who the best? We’re the best.
the announcer lisp has me dead :)
Some seriously questionable refereeing.
who did desanto lose to this season?
Hayden Knapp Austin Gomez from Iowa St
nevermind, it was austin gomez
Unsportsmanlike like penelty point should have hit. 1 for brands jumping on the mat 1 for desanto. Like the kids wrestling but he is a loose cannon.
@@Michael-ii9fs i might be wrong but yelling at his face is not showing respect.
I agree. You know he tried to injure Tucker and Micic last year. He's thrown his temper twice this year. He also got really angry after his loss to Gomez. When exiting the gym after his match he was angrily trying to rip off his upper body wraps/ protective gear.
Although I don't agree w/ that double stall call, Suriano wrestles to defensive & to safe... Open up a little dude, probably would have beat Desantoif you wrestled a little harder.
Rutger coaches on there period
Favorite part is when he yells in nick’s ear
He got outwrestled.
Michigan wrestling

Regressed since the transfer
Nick had better takedowns and overall offense and cardio when he was at Penn State.
God loves you ❤
Iowa Is always favored on stall calls. Every time.
