IDK, I'm no expert but at that ultimate elite level if you're 2nd one yr and a yr later the 8th place guy is coming after you, you better be 110% ready, skill & strength differential at that level is almost nil

I’m a newbie for wrestling only 2 weeks and I love watching this stuff to learn new things. Especially since my coach will teach us a million things a practice and I can’t get enough time in practice to just focus and master two or three this way I can rewind it and focus on one move at a time
Cael might be the best wrestling coach ever when it is all said and done. Seems to out recruit everyone and seems to always have his wrestlers peaking at the right time. Always seems calm, collective and cool. Meanwhile, Iowa draining their wrestlers only to lose to higher seeds at the big show.
The wrestling participation rate is so low now, making recruiting very difficult. PSU finds the best and or creates them. I think Cael could care less how much wrestling recruits know, he looks for elite athleticism. He can teach them wrestling no problem. Nichol, Lee, Nolf & Sarocci are athletic freaks among others.

If you are looking to get recruited to an American college, the hard part is that you need to wrestle American "folk" style. Big colleges are interested in wrestlers who wrestle freestyle, no doubt, but they focus on folk style. If you train in BJJ, you can do well in folk style as there is a lot of scrambles and Niwaza. I would recommend going to the U.S. and signing up for some summer tournaments to get your name out there. Good luck!
It seems that RBY is smart enough to respect the better wrestlers. And then he counts on his speed and quickenss to take advantage of the smallest opening.
RBY has very good mat awareness but god is it annoying to watch a wrestler hug the outside of the mat. Makes me wish they did something similar to freestyle with the push-out rule but maybe the first push-out of each round is a warning for some middle ground. Either way good wrestling.
I agree. But I also feel like the ref awards not just mat control but aggression. That’s the one thing I’ve never liked about a Fix match is it always seems like he’s working to get the officials involved instead of going for it. He was pushing RBY to the side of the mat with no level changes or without taking chances. From the beginning setting the tone looking for stall calls. I think the better wrestler won the last two years. Last year Fix got every chance by getting back in the match with the refs. Came down to him having to get it done in OT. And to this year he didn’t get a takedown.
RBY out shot Fix overall. Probably 4 or 5 to 3 in terms of committed attacks. Fix pushed him around the mat, but rarely out. Fix really didn't shoot the whole first period so I'm not sure how people are crucifying RBY for stalling when Fix did less the whole match.

Obviously Bravo Young can wrestle strategically with the best. He is very athletic and smart, great mat awareness and body awareness. He is the real deal. I wonder if he is thinking internationally?

Just tougher competition. For one to get in finals every year (4 state championships) 3 Ncaa finals including thesenoir worlds makes him one of the best. You must not know much about what it takes to get the finals since the age of 14 including 6 junior freestyle nationals, 1 junior worlds. A smart man would reconsider this post and a wise man would remove it. Just saying
People complaining abt this match too much, like I understand he was backing up alot but the mat push outs he had against fix he nearly scored on everyone of em. The match was basically one guy pushing and the other attempting 2 score off the mat, this cancel the stall call and.makes the ref stay on there toes.
What a great match! Respect to both of these legends, as I know the kind of training, endurance, strength and discipline it takes to achieve these levels in wrestling are just insane.
Yes that is his Kryptonite. He has to change his pace. He has to do multiple shots after a initial shot. Willing to go a full 7 minutes of non stop wrestling. Work on riding and turns like Spencer Lee and a Tom Brands type of offensive and wear Bravo down because a fresh Bravo is to athletic. You have to get RBY beyond tired to score. Like Tom Brands did with Alan Fried when your oppenent has that amount of athleticism
From a layman's perspective one of the keys to RBY's advantage is in his leg movement through which he maintains his edge, and his rhythm.. It's like a dance...
A handshake woulda been nice at the end. Fix went up to him and gave him a pat on the cheek and RBY didnt even give him a head nod back. Anyways great match

Daton didn’t give Roman much of a chance. Roman was mid celebration. He gave Daton his props in the interview though which speaks to his respect for his opponents.
I don't think there's anything more annoying than watching a college wrestling match and hearing fans yell "stalling" for what is clearly not stalling. Seems to happen in every match
If Dayton doesn’t learn from these he’s going to never win a Gold Medal. He can’t wait against RBY, he has to get and stay after him from the second the whistle blows. Having said that RBY’s defense is World Class and the guy is also just clutch. He gets it done when it counts. My hat off to him. Just a pleasure to watch them compete.

I wonder how good Alabama might actually get at wrestling if them and a few of the other SEC teams had enough funding and resources for a decent wrestling roster. Need 10 DI scholarships as well as possibly an additional 2-3. So we're looking at 12-13 scholarships. Might be able to steal a few guys out of Pennsylvania and NY, as well as maybe locally around Georgia/Alabama. I've heard Georgia and Alabama has some pretty good DI worthy wrestlers out of HS.
I’m talking from someone who loves wrestling and has seen on UA-cam his fair share of great matches, I’m not talking from experience because very few people are actually on these guys level, very few, but I was absolutely disappointed in fix’s performance, I waited a whole year to see this again and I’m sure fix waited and trained specifically for this match and I only saw in the last 5 or 10 seconds some fire coming from him, he kept tying up and pushing rby all over the mat exactly like last year (desanto got in on rby legs in the big 10 finals like 4 times, fix was in on the legs like 1) and unless they have changed the rules that I didn’t know about that this technique is not going to score points, I love watching fix but he better hope rby doesn’t come back for 1 more year because if he does and fix decides to wrestle like that again he will unfortunately lose, for Myles amine too being a bronze medalist he got pushed around, also why aren’t these guys wrestling more throughout the year, if you want to know where you are against your competition you shouldn’t be finding out in the finals of the ncaa, I think these coaches are avoiding 1 another, Covid or no Covid am I supposed to believe that penn state and Michigan and Iowa and the cowboys couldn’t check there schedule to make sure they were all at 1 tournament to get some great looks from 1 another, a lot of these guys had never wrestled 1 another until there conference championship, how do u have some of the toughest guys in the weight classes not meeting until the finals??????
I agree with you. I think some of it is just a scheduling thing. But there are also similarities on the international level, some of the toughest guys in the world do not face each other until the finals in a tournament. Desanto and RBY are fortunate in the sense that their teams are both in the same conference, Fix not so much. This is another reason why so many athletes choose the Big ten over the Big 12, the Big ten has tougher opponents (not always, but for the most part). Prior to RBY, Fix's greatest threat throughout the season was Desanto; RBY faced Desanto about 3 times during the season; he was more ready for this than Fix was.
I know he’s got one more chance to win one, but if he doesn’t would you ever think that Dayton Fix would not win at least one NCAA Division 1 Wrestling Championship? I know there’s absolutely no way I would of thought that. Everything being equal and all.

Facts man. We know what programs like Iowa and Oklahoma State represent, but PSU is THE TOP elite program and will be for a long time.

Penn State always shows up in March. A push out rule like freestyle would make things much better so wrestlers can’t hide out on the edge.

One thing I've noticed about FIX is that he gets into a good angle of attack, and then stops wrestling.

I’m talking from someone who loves wrestling and has seen on UA-cam his fair share of great matches, I’m not talking from experience because very few people are actually on these guys level, very few, but I was absolutely disappointed in fix’s performance, I waited a whole year to see this again and I’m sure fix waited and trained specifically for this match and I only saw in the last 5 or 10 seconds some fire coming from him, he kept tying up and pushing rby all over the mat exactly like last year (desanto got in on rby legs in the big 10 finals like 4 times, fix was in on the legs like 1) and unless they have changed the rules that I didn’t know about that this technique is not going to score points, I love watching fix but he better hope rby doesn’t come back for 1 more year because if he does and fix decides to wrestle like that again he will unfortunately lose, for Myles amine too being a bronze medalist he got pushed around, also why aren’t these guys wrestling more throughout the year, if you want to know where you are against your competition you shouldn’t be finding out in the finals of the ncaa, I think these coaches are avoiding 1 another, Covid or no Covid am I supposed to believe that penn state and Michigan and Iowa and the cowboys couldn’t check there schedule to make sure they were all at 1 tournament to get some great looks from 1 another, a lot of these guys had never wrestled 1 another until there conference championship, how do u have some of the toughest guys in the weight classes not meeting until the finals??????
I agree with you. I think some of it is just a scheduling thing. But there are also similarities on the international level, some of the toughest guys in the world do not face each other until the finals in a tournament. Desanto and RBY are fortunate in the sense that their teams are both in the same conference, Fix not so much. This is another reason why so many athletes choose the Big ten over the Big 12, the Big ten has tougher opponents (not always, but for the most part). Prior to RBY, Fix's greatest threat throughout the season was Desanto; RBY faced Desanto about 3 times during the season; he was more ready for this than Fix was.
If you do it once it can be questioned as luck. But if you do it again then your no question the true champ.
