#Skyfall #DanielCraig
what i find so facinating about Skyfall is, despite dying, Silva for all intents and purposes WON. He did exactly what he set out to do...M still died, he humiliated his former employers and brought them to thier knees....he wasn't terribly concerned with his long-term survival, and would have killed HIMSELF if Bond hadn't done it out of sheer spite.
I wouldn't call anyone a winner here. Just a tradegy of a sick man and the organization that made him. They both had it coming
I agree with you Alex, he outsmarted them all, and rolled the dice at the end. He lost the final roll.
@@MrHarrystank I agree Mr Thundercunt
This is one of the best UA-cam comments I’ve ever read. Bravo
@@DeMenteMinds bit dramatic...
Whenever I recall Bond villains, Silva is the first one pops into my head. Javier Bardem's work on villains is always a treat for all senses.
Yep. Ever since I saw him as Chigurh in No Country For Old Men I was blown away. He was good in Pirates of the Caribbean as Salazar as well.
Mad Mikkelsen did a wonderful job in Casino Royale too. But I agree, Bardem is the most memorable of the villains in this bond era
I have him nr 1 and Mads mikkelsen nr 2. Both fucking amazing.
Alec Trevelyan for me
Christopher Lee’s Man With the Golden Gun will always be my favorite Bond villain.
Two best Craig Bond villains--Le Chiffre and Silva--didn't have silly visions of global destruction. Le Chiffre was a man at the end of his rope, having to recoup his boss's $100 million or else die. Silva couldn't get over abandonment from the only person he had trusted. M's quip about orphans making the best agents is a hint that Silva, too, was an orphan--and perhaps saw a mother in M. It was these human motives that lifted Le Chiffre and Silva above the caricature that often marks the Bond villains.
The best villains are the ones the audience can at least understand and sometimes even sympathize with
Well, you could also say this version of Blofeld use all his power to just mess with Bond's life but that just made him the most stupid villain IMO.
@@iateyourkidneys8779 you are correct and that’s why Rami’s villain was poorly written (not poorly acted)
insightful
@@ddnn974
Not all of them.
Judi Dench is simply exquisite. Her version of M was given such a graceful and respectable death. Her years of portraying the character are second only to Bernard Lee’s longtime portrayal. They each contributed to the legacy of a truly unforgettable character. Thank you, Dame Judi. ❤
I love how Silva doesn't deny the irony of his situation. He doesn't really want to live since everything he once represented and fought for betrayed him namely M. The literal insanity inducing pain, and suffering he went through just to be betrayed by the woman who was supposed to have his back. Just another name to be forgotten by the very agency he worked for.
Its funny how the 2 people that were after M, were the two she fail to have their back
Elektra (i know its a different timeline) and Silva. The only difference is that Silva had nothing to lose and went full rage at her. Living or not, it didnt matter to him, as long he could kill her.
I don’t want to sound silly but isn’t that what you sign up for when you become a spy. You know when your fucked your country won’t do anything because its about national security bla bla bla.
@@SelfImprovement1111 if the agency prided itself on betraying its members then it would have failed years ago.
There would be no dignity in it. If the rule brought him to this, of what use was the rule?
@@gaynzz6841 do you have any idea how crazy you are?
A knife in the back so fitting for Silva.
Talk about backstabbing
@@RicardoGeldresOfficial , I believe she did.
I think he was a good guy imo
But the crux of the story is bond was betrayed too but didn't leave his ground of love for nation and duty.
Bond wasn’t exactly betrayed. He wasn’t trusted enough and moneypenny shot poorly .
Javier Bardem is my favorite, modern actor - he is so phenomenal. Every character he plays, he makes me focus and forget about the past and future. There are not enough, amazing words I can use to describe how amazing he is.
He should do a movie with Cristopher Waltz
@@Nathare That would be cool to see - sometimes, too much talent, behind one camera can be too much though. I think I would throw up on everyone.
he is so good. no country for old men was what it was mainly cause of him.. phenomenal actor
@@mr.monologue7613 I agree completely Lance! Thanks for your comment buddy.
He absolutely puts a spin on any character he plays. And at the end, there's always some mystery to wondered about his particular characters.
Silva was definitely one of the most unstable villains. He wasn't evil or even saw himself as bad. He saw himself as a hurt and betrayed person who in his own mind did nothing wrong. The way he can't finish M off when he has her suggests that he never wanted this chase to end because he has nothing left when it's over. Most probably, the only Bond villain who hesitated at the end.
There’s two little things about this scene that stick out in a big way to me.
The little gasp by M when Silva can’t bring himself to shoot her. She has not shown any emotion whatsoever to Silva. And when he finally puts the pistol to her face, he finally breaks her in that regard.
Secondly, the really creepy tone and timbre in Silva’s voice when he says, “Free both of us.” Javier Bardem, in my opinion, never gets the credit he deserves for the use of his voice. He’s masterful with his.
It’s the little things here that make the scene much bigger.
That last grunt always cracks me up, it's like he's saying "c'mon man..." With his facial expression 🤣
"Last rat standing." Outstanding line!!
That would be Micah
"Still a rat, nevertheless"
@@jackraider1039 rdr2?
@@Dylannuyten Yep
I just love the look on Silva's face right before drops dead.
This is easily the most powerful scene in Bonds whole franchise since Dr No and definitely one of the most badass scenes of all time.
I cried at this scene when I first saw it in cinema, gripping acting on all parts
2:43 Silva looks genuinely annoyed that he just got stabbed
Just as Bond looked annoyed about finally catching up to him lol
He doesn't care about dying. He just wants to go out on his own terms which Bond fucked up. Hence no fear but annoyance which is darkly humorous. He's acting much more like someone who just received a parking ticket from a traffic warden than just having received a mortal wound and about to die.
@@ciaranoconnell4783 not to mention a bullet to the head is quick and painless. Bond forced Silva to take the longer detour to death.
I remember when I saw it in theaters me and the audience laughed. Definitely a memorable moment lol
"I planned this to the last detail and spent one hundred million pounds only to be stabbed in the back by a ten dollar knife from someone who doesn't know how to use a smartphone..."
Silva, a man who was betrayed by MI6 and was metaphorically stabbed in the back is killed by being _literally_ stabbed in the back.
I love Bardem’a acting from 2:40…it feels straight out of Austin Powers like “Really dude!? Who throws a knife? Honestly.” Goes from annoyance to anguish to acceptance.
That part when Silva Sees James parents grave marker and realizes..OH SHIT...that is his real name!!! Skyfall, is the best Bond movie I saw, I have have seen them since I was 10....BUT ALSO, one of the BEST movies I ever saw!!
I don’t think Silva was realizing that Bond was his real name in this scene (Silva had previously hacked Bond’s file to see he’s failed his tests for field duty clearance) he was realizing the irony of killing Bond’s surrogate mother right next to where his parents are buried
I also think it links back to his speech about his grandmother's island. The fact he talked about spending time with his grandmother as a boy suggests that Silva may himself have been an orphan, which cements the whole "last two rats" metaphor. Standing at the grave of Bond's parents, he realises that they truly are mirrors of each other.
Very tragic. They all made themselves into monsters to protect the world FROM monsters. Silva was too weak to accept having to pay the price for his line of work, but Bond isn't. M died because she failed Silva, but she died in the arms of an agent she knew was strong enough to do what needs to be done.
> Silva was too weak to accept having to pay the price for his line of work
Muh "too weak", says the internet tough guy.
I'm not always a fan of spooks but despite that do you have any idea of the amount of nerve and guts it would take to just even be a spy or someone doing any kind of black ops work?
On top of that this is supposed to be a guy who was consigned to the most horrific torture by those he trusted. Yes, he's "too weak" for getting fucked up in the head after all that and not remaining a "good boy". Sure buddy.
Also there are no "monsters"(🤣) or good guys in international politics, lmao.
@@tiffles3890 The "monsters" are purely theoretical, or rather, "theatrical", but they DO exist. They exist in the propaganda and "intel" that is carefully crafted to remove both sides of the story, thus you can paint a picture in which people think that a character like Saddam Hussein is a "monster" and needs taken out.
@@aaronaukema1284 Or literally ISIS being the so-called "Freedom fighters" in Syria.
@@tiffles3890 "moderate Muslim freedom fighters" ... funded and created by the CIA.
@@tiffles3890 he didn’t say he was weak in general, just that he was too weak for that line of work. Why’re you looking for a fight?
Silva gives that look like "REALLY? Come onnnnnn, mannnnn" when he takes that knife in the back
Hands down my favorite Bond film, and I've seen just about all of them. It was gorgeous, moved along well, and was thrilling. Just perfect for this franchise.
Brilliant film. One of my favourite
Yes... there's drama with a long past of deep vengeance in this film, and that makes it all the more gripping...Yet another Bond film that I really like was Casino Royale: the chemistry and love between Vesper and James Bond is really beautiful. Eva Green was simply fantastic in that film...her acting was top class...
Best Bond, best antagonist, most 'believable' story and plot.
I would say Casino Royale is more believable
@@Hero_Of_Old This was more entertaining
So sorry to hear about Silva's passing, I'm a big fan of his music.
Skyfall is the true ending of the Bond franchise for me.

He has a point to be villain. Second best about right causes to Thanos.
And Bond's best villain for sure. Bardem is joyful to watch.
No Time To Die came so close to being my favorite Daniel Craig film as James Bond, but the villain for No time to die was so lackluster, but I will say No Time To Die had some of if not the greatest action sequence in any James Bond film.
*Partially agree. For me Safin (Rami Malek) was a good villain. But the suspense and delay of him appearing in the scenes (except that he appears at the beginning) was what made him stay behind Silva. Both are great villains with similar motivations.*
@@CaioH. I thought Safin had an interesting backstory in the sense that out of all destruction Blofeld and Spectre did across the world to so many people, there was bound to be a case somewhere along the line where the potential arises for evil vs evil to play out. It is kinda a dark parallel to M's treatment to agents when no longer useful. Vast majority of agents are like Bond who know the score going in and the rules of the game but eventually you stumble across a Raoul Silva. Similar with Blofeld to Safin here.
@@ciaranoconnell4783 Exactly! And they could also have put in some flashbacks from Safin's past, too bad they didn't. But that's right.
I actually thought Malek as more of an.... I don't know... Well not really an anti hero, but neither a real villain
@@the_biggest_chungus7508 He could even be an anti-hero in the eyes of some for wanting revenge for his family's death and face disfigurement. But no, he really is a villain. A man who lives in a body without a soul and who wants to become a god to destroy the whole world. Good he is not.
I've forgotten how many times I've watched this film. I could watch it a hundred times more......
I know judi dench is a great actress but I get the feeling that she was scared of barden IRL lmao

This is the defining villain of the Daniel Craig 007 films.
Judy and Craig where the best duo in the franchise. From the beginning in royal to sky fall it built the best relationship for Bond and M. When she first donned the role of M I wasn’t sure how she would do with the male testosterone driven series but she hit her stride never backing down and when this trilogy hit the page cemented her legacy.
0:40 Can we all just take a minute to appreciate the soundtrack score by Thomas Newman? What a masterpiece and i like how they also used it in Spectre.
david arnold was better
Totally agreed, it gave the movie an atmosphere like no other Bond movie.
Meh
Love how he’s introduced walking towards Bond and it ends with him walking to him. Brilliant bookend
I feel so bad for him tsk... and Javier Bardem is dang... perfect
I know the emotion Silva has .
@oman1943 why would you ask such a question? the least we can do for each other as human beings is respect someone's sufferings
@oman1943 Just some edgy kid who wants to equate this to the time his mum didn't let him get the video game he wanted.
@oman1943 What about you? You are such a lil kid who never the kind of experience like that.
@oman1943 I don't want you to know.
@oman1943 I have one, but you never have before.
I love the symbolism of past vs modern in this movie.
It's very meta, acting also as a justification of why the (then) 50 year old James Bond franchise still has a place in the modern world.
I never even noticed that Silva died from literally being stabbed in the back trying to free himself. One last betrayal from MI-6.
That is why I had ZERO Compassion for MI6 or M in this situation. I sympathized with Silva all the way. Something that M failed to do and after seeing the mess he caused….It STILL didn’t rattle her. She died un remorseful and that’s what’s upsetting. Silva til the end remained faithful to her. He couldn’t shoot her in the courthouse and he couldn’t shoot her in the chapel. Also Bond REALLY Pissed me off in this film too. He also remained faithful to M, Knowing he was also betrayed by her in the train scene.
@NatureWatersProductions
That was the key difference between Bond and Silva.
Bond knows he is a disposable man that can die any day, and won't always be saved. Silva made it too personal and was broken due to it, plus his capture was his own fault for going rogue.
2:46 when you have to watch yet another UA-cam ad
Do you think its on purpose or an oversight, where silva holds the gun up for both of them and tells her to end it, he has it clearly angled in such a way that if she pulls the trigger it would only kill her 🤔
It definitely wouldnt do them both with where he is holding his own head 🤷♂️
Silva's reaction to getting stabbed is the same reaction I have when I spill my cup of coffee all over the floor.
I love how Javier Bardem was the best actor in a James Bond film and he wasn't playing James Bond.
The psychotic troubled behaviour Javier's showing right here is immaculate. Amazing act.
Best Bond villain. Javier Bardem should’ve won an Oscar for this
I always rank Skyfall the best 007 movie. Now after Spectre and No time to die, I understand that it’s all because Javier and his character Silva
Yes! Agreed! Bardem stole the show! 🙌🏼💯

I am guessing the old man in the church represents Face of God or the grim reaper/Death: *Silva demanding that he shouldn't ruin their moment yet, and Bond looking sadly at him while his mentor figure slowly passes away-beautiful cinematography*

007 is the best film series of alltime. I enjoyed all of the Bond films. They are pure entertainment. I think Daniel Craig is the best, but Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan are a close second. The last comment: "007, what took you so long" lol
I'm honestly surprised at how many people rag on Daniel Craig's movies. Like, if the classic Bond films are any indication, most of them aren't known for great quality. I personally like just about all of them, but I know that some of them are pretty bad and are just guilty pleasures of mine. Especially in the Roger Moore era. This film, however, isn't one of those guilty pleasures. It's actually a good film in its own right, regardless of it being a Bond film.
Perfect Bond meets perfect monster

I was expecting a huge fight scene between them
It took Silva pointing a gun at her to finally break her hardened exterior.
Thanks Sly 👍🏻
I feel like Bond is Spartan 117 in an alternate universe where it's current times and he wasnt taken for the Spartan program.
And British - obviously.
I agree, Sylar was Bonds equal, his so call brother and the weasel they had in the last movie don’t compare, but it was also his prime to play bond
The problem with H Bardem was he was SO typecast as Anton Chigurh , that seeing him as a blonde bad guy was almost comical .... he wasn't pure evil like Chigurh in the least ...
Hes still scarier looking with that black bowl cut.
Daniel Craig Killed Javier Bardem And Judi Dench Is Dead
Immediately after Silva gets the blade in the back, his face looks similar to Arnold Swarzenegger in “Total Recall”, when he was caught outside on Mars with negative pressure.
Was M actually Silva's mother? I can't imagine getting THIS emotional over being betrayed by your boss, especially when you're a secret agent
No, Silva just went fucking nuts in prison.
mother in law kind of?
He refers to her as "mother" several times, so I wonder if this is deliberately implied and was explicit in an earlier draft of the script.
"Orphans make the best agents." Assuming Silva was an orphan, M might as well have been his mother.
I donno, place me in that position & betray me & my reaction would make Silva's look tame in comparison.
Silvia’s death scene was similar to Kristatos’ death in For Your Eyes Only.
You can really feel the cold!
2:33 after eating hot tacos, the next morning
Seems to me that it would've been more in character for Silva to ignore Bond and just shoot M anyway. He spent the entire movie spitting out hatred towards M and wanting her dead and/or broken... then when she's completely at his mercy he just turns away from her and shambles toward Bond, wasting the last minute of his life glaring at James.
Then you don't really understand Silva's character. His whole deal is that he hates M because he felt he showed her deep loyalty, and he was betrayed. In spite of that, he's still devoted to her and he can't bring himself to kill her. He fails to do so earlier in the film as well. In reality, given his ability to run circles around MI6, he could have killed her at any time. In the end, he had to try and make *her* do it, to "free" him.
Then Bond, who to Silva was just a pale imitation of himself, shows up and ruins everything by chucking a knife into his spine. Of course he's pissed. Bond meant nothing to him, aside from being a living insult courtesy of M, since Bond was her "favorite" agent now.
She was badly hurt. He knew that she would've died anyway. By shooting both in the head he would've relieved her of a painful death.
Well, a knife in the back will make one drop one's gun and probably make it almost impossible to do anything with your final seconds anyway
@@Don113 Yeah he’s like that kid who’s super jealous of his brother & now he’s super pissed because Bond outdid him proving himself his equal at least if not his superior.
