I feel like that winning combination of punch, pistol commandeering, and hiding behind a goon could have been done just as well before the girl died, and he even had an extra shot in hand
For everyone wondering why Silva had so few guards and no snipers around: Silva WANTED to get captured by Bond and sent back to Britain, because his goal was to take revenge on M for her betrayal and kill her personally. As Bond said later in the film Silva had planned his own escape and waited till M was vulnerable in a public enquiry before he tried to kill her with his henchmen disguised as coppers. In this scene Bond overestimated the number of guards around him and could've saved the girl if he'd acted sooner. Silva wanted to see him hurt emotionally so he murdered the girl, and out of anger Bond flipped when he felt he had nothing to lose.
I love the line and how he said it: "It's a waste of a good scotch" but then he takes them all out. And you wonder, couldnt he have done that 10sec earlier?
Silva's gun was loaded and they were more on edge when his own gun was loaded. Bond was waiting for a moment to do it, but underestimated Silva's brutality.
Silva would have had a loaded gun, and bond turned his back to him mid fight, if you noticed, so either he would have shot bond, or the girl anyway. The sequence was actually well thought out
It's simpler than that... Before he wouldn't try to make a move because it would put her at great risk, he probably didn't expect Silva to just shoot her. After she was dead he went to the "nothing to lose" mentality which allowed him to make his move.
Admittedly speculating on the motivations of a fictional character, but I can easily wager that in this scene Bond would be thinking that if he can stall long enough he can probably save her, but only if he can do so without compromising his mission. He puts on a good show of seeming like he’s not a credible threat with the shaky aim (Silva commenting on his test scores lent that credibility) to draw things out and make the goons lower their guard a bit after he’d finally used his one shot. I honestly expected on my first viewing that Silva would prolong the game, forcing James to take multiple shots or administer non-fatal shots of his own. Instead it was just ‘my turn- BANG’. Took everyone in the theatre by surprise from the sounds around me. In another scenario where this ruse succeeded, it’s possible Bond could have counted on the sound of the helicopters providing a split second distraction for him to make his move.
Those weapons are almost impossible to shoot the target with that much presicion, before modern gunbarrels with helix surfaces, most shots were not on point so hitting the glass was just a huge game of luck in any case.
Watching it I noticed how many of the goons had their guns in their hands, not just in pockets or behind their backs. I think this is a credible take. He could have taken them but he knew it was extremely risky, he wanted them to lower their guards because they were at least aware of how dangerous he could be, if still underestimating him, and he wanted to save the girl and not kill Silva. Once Silva just killed her outright, the goons not worried too much about him with an empty gun in hand, he was released.
AND to further this, by the time he goes to kill everyone 2 goons have their guns in their pants, and the really cocky one has now gotten so close to Bond to so Bond can pull the maneuver (at the first he was a good meter back and the table was between them). Even the order of kills reflects his concern: he shoots the one guy who had been carrying his gun before, but is next to Silva and therefore would have the easiest shot against Bond, throws the gun at the black dude to distract him because he still had his weapon in hand, is able to still shoot Mr. Gun-My-Crotch before he was able to fire, has to use Cocky Goon as a shield from Mr. Automatic who has already recovered and had an open shot by that point, and still manages NOT to get Silva shot in the process. I always felt like the scene was getting across that Bond was in a tight situation and couldn't come out completely on top, but really paying attention to how the scene is shot really confirms it for me at least.

@@fendysusanto876 A helicopter designed to minimise its radar cross-section is very different to a helicopter that makes no sound. The "stealth" helicopters used during the Bin Laden raid happened to be modified UH-60 blackhawks with the intention of mitigating their chances of getting detected by Pakistani authorities. Whilst this was successful, it did little to decrease the actual sound of the helicopters which would have still been very loud as the turbine engines used on the black hawk generate a whooping 1,622 shaft horsepower. Needless to say, all of the members of the compound would have heard the helicopters well before they landed. And I am not really sure where you got the "Vietnam soldier" thing from because UH-1 Iroquois, AH-1 Cobra's and CH-46's where loud as hell and there was no intention of disguising that. In fact, their loud sound eventually led to problems as it was able to alert the Viet Cong of an impending attack. So in conclusion, yes those choppers should have been heard well before they actually arrived and unless by some Hollywood miracle they happened to have the worlds most efficient muffler for the engine whilst all the while having the sound of roughly 400rpm on some massive rotor be entirely negated, then there is no real way of disguising their approach.
Yeah, the crash alerted everyone on the street that didn't already hear the chopper. Luckily nobody was hurt in the crash and a spare helicopter was flown in for the second team in order to replace the crashed one.
To all the comments asking "why didn't he do that 10 seconds earlier and save the woman", one, Bond has a gun directed at his head, and two, Silva had a bullet in his dueling pistol.
NOBODY talks about how Craig's Bond just took that shot. After previously being poisoned by his head to head. His newest opponent pours a drink, prepared for him behind his own back, and Craig doesn't really hesitate at all. He scores the henchman momentarily and downs it. He knew he had back up. And told the camera without telling the camera. Pity, he couldn't save the gal ... but I think that's why he took the shot.
I checked out Macallan out of curiosity. I knew I would not be able to afford the whisky when I saw they charge $900 for a kit that makes ice spheres. Yeah, $900 to make ice balls instead of ice cubes. That's a lot of money to fancy up a drink that's best served at room temperature.

I love how Intense the situation is. Silva has devilish and calm conniving demeanor like Scaramenga of Golden Gun and perhaps a little of Alec in Goldeneye. He sees himself as Bond’s perfect equal. Trapped and virtually helpless. Daring Bond to try and shoot the glass without harming the woman see if he’s really as perfect as the legend says to be. The poor girl just another pawn in Silvia’s sick “game”. Figures if Bond is too “soft” to put her out or her misery, he’ll do it for him. Bond: "Well, everyone needs a hobby." Silva: "...What's yours?" Bond starts to internally debate whether to tell Silva about the 3.000 points Adeptus Mechanicus army he recently finished and is very satisfied with
So correct me if I’m wrong but that is a smoothbore pistol, and if Bond tried to make that shot, even if he was a world champion marksmen, there’s still only a 5% chance he makes that shot because smoothbore rounds will float all over the place as they travel out of the barrel. If you fire an old musket a person can actually watch the round go left and right and up and down and will never ever hit right on the target the way a modern round would and will land within around a 5 inch radius from the intended spot. Bond knew this, so he missed on purpose to try and save the girl but then the girl was shot and he knew that he had to leave guns blazing. He was purposely set up for failure.

Old Bond would have made the shot blindfolded and gave a witty one liner. I like this version more
Which “Old Bond”? Yeah, Roger Moore, but he was always over-the-top.
@@Egilhelmson or Pierce Brosnan he was campy and over the top too
Basically any Bond after Sean Connery; although his version of Bond wasn't much different than the others as well
He did keep the witty one-liner though
That's because in this movie Bond wasn't at 100%, M lied about his test results
I believe he is just mentioning Macallen is a favorite of Bond's favorite whiskey, That bottle is $60K each at 50 years aged.
So if I buy good whiskey right now and I just wait around 50 years I can pass on retirement savings to my child?
@@77Avadon77 nope it's barrel aged
@@thelolsamshow Still works in some sense, though. I remember in the news some guy bought his son a bottle of fairly-expensive (£200) whisky every year as a birthday gift. By the time he was 18, some of the bottles were worth a couple grand.
@@lysandersensale2792 yes some bottles go up in value.
@@77Avadon77 yes. If you buy certain whiskey it can go up in value. But not if it's not aged. Alcohol stops aging the moment you take it by out of the barrel.
the bad guys never realize, you don't put a gun to the hero's head, you have an entire squad situated 3 meters away aiming at Bond and 2 hidden snipers just in case.
Well in that case Silva wanted to get caught.
Plus a few mini guns in case that fails.
Could drop a nuke on Bond here - even that wouldn't be enough. Plot armour is no joke haha!
@@thesarcasticimpala2886 Plot armour didn't seem to help him in his newest movie
@@timbusfahrer3172how boring that you have to resort to the reductive term of “plot armor”.
But still that’s a fair point
0:59 I like the way he's watching them "atta boy"
I feel like he sizes them up at different points to figure out who will be the biggest threat when he makes his move. He puts on his sunglasses when he's outside -- a legitimate thing to do, but then you can't see his eyes as he searches out options and scenarios for escape etc. When he sees Severine, he knows he's going to have to make his move soon. He turns and surveys probably the entire crew with his peripheral vision. Even as he downs his shot he takes a quick glance at each of them to know their position.
I felt genuinely bad for Severine. A tragic woman.
Finally someone who mentions it
She was such a compelling Bond girl, far better than Madeline(nothing against Lea Seydoux). Such a waste.
Part of the role
Still annoyed about that spilled Skotch

THE best James bond movie in the history of James bond movies, I don't care what anyone else says.

So nice, Bond and the cavalry acted only when the girl was already dead. True heros, men of actions.
"there's nothing superfluous in my life" walking on his own _island_
One of the best acting by villain
The spectacular Javier Bardem!
Nice to hear Uganda mentioned in this movie, I come from Kampala, Uganda and I like Bond's actions in all his movies
Uganda has a nice range of action films itself, I'd much rather watch "Who Killed Captain Alex" than any of the Fast & Furious-movies
Although cool for the movie, there's no fucking way you wouldn't hear 3 choppers a mile away waiting... Hellen Keller could hear it.
Stealth Chopper it's a thing, Vietnam soldier and Osama dead because of it.
@@admiralsogga7842 not to mention the one that crashed and made a loud noise right? I’m sure that was less than stealthy due to mechanical failures?
Yeah, the crash alerted everyone on the street that didn't already hear the chopper. Luckily nobody was hurt in the crash and a spare helicopter was flown in for the second team in order to replace the crashed one.
this is meant to serve the hero worshiping foos just like Top Gun
imagine silva all of the sudden says "JaCk SbArRoW"
This was the biggest proof that Bond Girls of the Daniel Craig era would get the rawest deals! ☠️
As a life long bond fan it’s crazy to me to say this but I do believe Daniel Craig is the greatest bond of all time.
Sean Connery is. Fleming literally changed the books to make Bond more like Connery after the first movie came out.
Everyone has there own opinion but Connery is universally recognized as the best Bond
not even close
He's definitely up there. Personal favourite is woody allen
To all the comments asking "why didn't he do that 10 seconds earlier and save the woman", one, Bond has a gun directed at his head, and two, Silva had a bullet in his dueling pistol.
three - It's a movie
Consider also that you never put ice in scotch because it waters down the flavour.
Macallan 12 is good enough for my taste and wallet.
I used to go camping on the MacAllan distilleries land across from Aberlour, picturesque area. Was my Dads favourite tipple but obviously not the older bottles. There are very rich customers fly in for the golf and fishing then spend huge amounts on manager’s special editions.
Javier Bardem is so good, it is beyond the understanding of most people.
it's really not. we all know
if James just decided to shoot silva in the leg then the entire second half of the movie basically doesnt happen
Bardem is such a fantastic actor. Almost made me root more for him than Craig in that movie.
"When you need to shoot, shoot!, don't talk"
All the bad guys from 007 get chance to kill Bond at first place but they didn't do it
BMA
Its a Movie!!!
Its all a part of the plan
"Plot armor" or like the scene from austin powers when DR evil catches him, so scott ways, ok, we got him, just kill him right here and now, so he's not going to be a issue anymore anymore etc. But DR evil just says now and does the obvious to torture austin, but likely give him a chance to escape 😂😂🤷♂️.
In the Simpsons cartoon the evil guy’s henchmen don’t make that mistake on the Connery lookalike
"It is time to die Mr. Bond, but before that, you have to watch my plan.........etc etc "
Hilarious how Javier Bardem is so nice and polite in real life but plays some of the scariest motherfuckers in movie history. I wish he would’ve been the leader of Spectre and main villain instead of just a side villain for one of the Daniel Craig Bond films.
Call it Mr Bond
Call it
One of the best stunt choreography ever!!💯🔥
Looking back and knowing his plan to be caught, a man of his experience and intelligence would never have allowed his henchman to be in blatant disarming range like that.

Silva is an amazing villain.
After seeing no country for old men, i have sooooo much respect for javier bardem's acting. He's so damn good
Bond taking out the goon holding the Glock to his head was ridiculously satisfying
One of the most remarkable scenes....
Craig... Best Bond Ever
And the first gay Bond.
He has just one expression. I'd prefer Sean, or even Roger. No humor.
スカイフォールって、ボンドシリーズ史上最も大ヒットした映画でしたよね。
I love how Intense the situation is. Silva has devilish and calm conniving demeanor like Scaramenga of Golden Gun and perhaps a little of Alec in Goldeneye. He sees himself as Bond’s perfect equal. Trapped and virtually helpless. Daring Bond to try and shoot the glass without harming the woman see if he’s really as perfect as the legend says to be.
The poor girl just another pawn in Silvia’s sick “game”. Figures if Bond is too “soft” to put her out or her misery, he’ll do it for him. His plan was to beat Bond in the end, and the bastard succeeded in this aspect.
I do love a good character study (or in this case a bad/villainous one)
Javier is such a great actor.
James bond only missed because he didnt want to ruin that good scotch.
Bond: "Well, everyone needs a hobby."
Silva: "...What's yours?"
Bond starts to internally debate whether to tell Silva about the 3.000 points Adeptus Mechanicus army he recently finished and is very satisfied with
😂😂😂😂
3:21 u can see it has rifeling so its not smoothbore

The first thing Silva would have done was to take a big step back while Bond did so. The second thing he would have done is shot her out of spite.

I had the same reaction. If he could just deal with them whilst the guard pointed a gun at his head why wait so long and let the girl die ffs. He could have shot, missed her and use noise of the moment to attack or something. Wtf Bond.
@ro co Nobody can hit a shot glass at that range with those pistols. A bench vise couldn't do it in 20 tries. The whole thing was a power play from the start.
