When I saw the tulle cuff thingies on her arm
    (Idk what they're called)
    My immediate thought was
    "Arm tutus"
    My second thought was
    "Floaties"
Why am I like this lol

I can't unsee the floaties now.

I enjoyed this! You could even lengthen the videos a bit by providing more back story- both personal and history of the role. I'd love to see more!

i second this! more backstory, both about the ballet and your preparation for the role at the time, would be enjoyable.

I definitely love the commentary! It helps as a student to break down what goes on on stage and apply that to class rather than waiting to take what you learn in class and apply to stage ;)

Katie, I think these commentaries are interesting as a learning experience for your viewers, and I hope you keep making them. But I think it's important to note that, while you as the performer notice the "mistakes" you've made during the performance, we as your audience, even those who are trained dancers, notice the character you project on the stage. You have such a gift as an artist, and we are privileged to be able to watch the magic you create.

I love videos like this because I feel Hollywood gives such a distorted view on what the world of ballet is really like because they feel a need to amp up the drama. I enjoy your honest insights and glimpses into your real world and how it all feels to experience it.

I love your dancing and I was always trying to find the perfect word to describe it, but now I definitely found it: Effortless. It's so effortless and beautiful to watch. I never would have noticed any mistakes if you hadn't told them. ;) Thank you for sharing it with us!

Yes I would love to see more ballet commentary videos! As an adult recreational dancer I have miles to go in learning what's good and what's bad about someone's dancing. Although the video was short, it was still fun and educational to watch.

  • @baileymadill7666
    @baileymadill7666 7 років тому

It's really inspiring to me how you view your own dancing! You can find the mistakes and point them out, but still acknowledge when you've done something well. It's very healthy, and I hope I can have an outlook like that sooner rather than later! Lots of us are either too cocky or beat ourselves up constantly (I'm definitely the latter).

You were 21 doing that and I am 21 and started ballet about two months ago :D I'm not even comparing myself to you because that'd be totally pointless, I'm just slightly amused by you pointing out how you didn't do things just perfectly and I can't even warp my head around ever learning to even stand on pointe!
Great video though! I'm probably not your target audience, but I enjoy watching your videos :)

Yes!! Please! More of these would be wonderful. I would also love to have some explanations on miming because as a non-dancer, I just don't understand some of the subtext and feel I am missing out on important story details.

So interesting ! When I'm watching ballet performances I'm usually dazzled by the grace of the dancers (and that's what ballet is for!). But it's so cool to rewatch and see the technical difficulties !

Please continue with these kind of videos! They help to see what can happen in an actual performance and also show that even though nobody's perfect, a lot of the time you can hide a mistake if you just keep going. I also really like that you're not only pointing out all the mistakes, but also say if something was good. False modesty is sometimes even worse than arrogance ;)

This is genius, Katie! I would LOVE to see more videos like this! Its so refreshing to see/hear others critique themselves as I do the same thing watching videos of myself dance. I often wonder what professionals are thinking or when they're improvising because you especially played it so well you completely sold me on the steps. This is really humble & generous of you to share! Sending my love! 👏💐💖

Keep making these types of videos! I can't tell you how many times a day I feel so much pressure to be perfect in everything I do in ballet, but this shows other young girls that even professionals are not perfect 24/7. Great video!

Hi! Besides informative it's brave from you to upload a video where you point what you see as mistakes and weakness.
In the same way it's really helpful for all the young girls that watch you to know it doesn't matter we all feel insecure with ourselves and that's ok. Even a talented professional ballet dancer who can do it and does that can see where to improve and where she got it.
You are such a big example for kids out there and some adults too...

LOVE this format! Vision is one of my personal faves so pretty neat to see you doing that one. I could tell right away that it was a bit of an informal show, but even when you're a dancing more casually, you still have so much natural elegance and quality of movement. But it's spectacular imo how honestly you assessed this video for all the young dancers out there. It's pure gold for them to have a critique that separates the beauty of a talented dancer's work from what could be done even better at certain moments so they can develop an eye for themselves. I hope you'll do a lot more of these!

Also, the mention of the shoes being the wrong size I thought was a great thing to point (ha:-) out to everyone watching. My niece has had good to poor fittings at times. Maybe you could do a video about what to expect during a proper pointe shoe fitting. Many don't have the luxury of a fitting in NYC with super pro fitters. Give us your expert advice so we can be smart parents and students!!! Love, as always!

Hi Kathryn! I just discovered your channel and I've really found every one of your videos helpful. One thing that I have troubles with is gripping my quads and using the right muscles for turn out or any extensions. Teachers have told me all the time that we need to engage the hamstrings but it's almost like trying to engage a piece of hair, it's like it's not even there. I've tried so hard to not grip but it's almost like I physically can't. Maybe you can make a video explaining where turnout muscles are as well as the muscles for extensions and some tips to stop gripping.
