Be careful out there or my climbing police will arrest you!
I’m a simple man raised by rocks.
6:40 incorrect, it would have been a factor 1 fall. but still terrible with the rope wedged where it was.
To be a factor 2 fall he would have to be 10' above the point where the rope was caught (if there was 10' of rope between his harness and the point where the rock was stuck/wedged in the rock). so he would (fall of 20') divided by (10' of rope) = 2
@@heli400 It would only be a factor 1 if the rope was caught so badly that it was the effective belay point, making the rest of the rope irrelevant. Since he got the rope unstuck he took the fall on all of the rope between himself and his belayer. It's hard to estimate distance, but it looks like he fell close to half of the height, which would be a fall factor of .333. Of course a FF of 1 without the nasty pendulum would have been preferable.
I have a case for you in the comment section (my comment) of this video: ua-cam.com/video/D_YIHgIdDMs/v-deo.html&lc=UgyJ_NJ2o436PCJOPgZ4AaABAg.9U4bXi_yOz39U5KKKHEQ3G
Number 1 must be the WORST climbing fail I have ever seen in my life.
Congrats to the first guy for being alive
Darwin fails award.
It was the absolutly worst way they could have handled that
@@sebastianloessl7982 There are plenty of ways they could have handled that really badly. These guys would obviously benefit from better skills, such as being able to escape the belay, but it was actually a fairly simple and effective solution. They recruited a bunch of people for a Georgia Haul to raise the climber, and the original belay line was used for progress capture. You know, exactly as if the climber climbed up to where the rope was stuck instead of being pulled up. That set him up for the nasty pendulum, but again, just as if the rope hadn't snagged when he first fell. While there are more elegant solutions the only serious criticisms I have are not tying in to the haul line (not necessary, but why hang on when you could tie in and just sit in your harness?), and the possible risk to and from the inexperienced help.
Congrats? There was a collaborative effort by everyone in the vicinity to make him dead.
Out of all the possible things you can do with an ascender THAT is what they came up with!?
Lol 😂 I know right. Is this an ascender or a handle....yeah definitely just a handle.
I'm guessing the dude hanging didn't know how to use it and they didn't want to risk him messing up loading the jugger.
I can’t believe the belayed didn’t pull out the slack as he was getting hauled? Only reason why it makes sense not to have him clip in
And that is actually the Danish Death Knot they used on the ascender 😂😂
I don't even know what an ascender is (I'm a gym rat) and I could come up with several safer ways of getting out of that situation than what they tried. Holy shit somebody should take their gear
I love the cam as a gavel!
There’s only 3 channels I put the bell on for, you’re definitely one of them. Still blows my mind how underground this channel is, keep it up bro!
🤙🏻
As a beginner, I'm learning (from videos like yours) that disregard for basics, not learning proper skills, over confidence, are major causes for many accidents.
I am currently stuck in isolation trying to get to Antarctica and I have really been digging your channel. I appreciate your humor and the way that you talk about everything. Definitely enjoyed your outtakes at the end of this video. Thanks for the content.
That sounds epic! 🤙🏻 Thanks for the support.
These videos make my hands sweat with anxiety! The whole time in video 1 I’m thinking about the guy pulling the climber up, was he clipped in to anything!? He could have been yanked over the edge! And the people dangling over the side! Respect the edge people 🪢
It also looked like a lot of the “rescuers” in the first clip were at the edge of the cliff but not tied in!?!
Hey, in the case 10:45 you forgot to mention that helmets protect against knees too!
These series are amazing! More of this my dude!
This channel gonna blow up bro. Keep it up
More video's like this man!!! Love it!
Great video! Love the outtakes at the end!
I thought oooh they are just going to lower the jumar to the guy so he can ascend the rope... But wait what
Killing it Josh! Love the gown, hilarious
Great video. I just found ypur channel yesterday and I am enjoying it.
I really appreciate that you discuss the fails.
This has to become a regular feature, that was GOLD! Let's get some more cases on the docket.
This is why I used to run through rescue routines with anyone new I climbed with.
What is your way off the mountain?
What if X happens.
How to Ascend a locked rope?
What self Rescure equip do you carry?
What belay Rescure equip do you carry?
Does the belay have ready access to a mobile phone with reception?
Does the climber have a mobile on them?
What level of trauma first aid do you have?
What first aid pack are you carrying?
What is you gps or relevant location for mountain rescure?
First video.
Pass down the equip.
Tie off the second rope so it’s safe to climb.
Let the climber ascend the second rope and free the main line.
Stay tied in to both ropes incase of damage to main line.
Lower safely and slowly.
Or get dragged up by people while holding the equipment and then fall 20ft on a compromised line...
Very wise indeed!
Keep up the great work JP! Best climbing channel EVER!!!!
I'm so glad I found your channel lad. All the best
Love your vids man
Love that Samson Hawkeye border. One of my favorite static ropes.
I could watch you fall all day long. You made me spit my water out from laughing so hard.
Best show ever! Still waiting on my Beta Buddy...
Omg! I was laughing on the floor at that first clip🤣 they were probably high AF!!!
Your channel is so good dude, keep making content!
A single drywall screw holds around 35 kg. He had two for a total of about 70kg. Working right up to the limit there. If he had 5 or 6 screws in it would probably been fine.
You are really fun to watch. 😀 Awesome, helpful content. 👏👍👍
This channel has made me happy about my own progress as a 'self taught' climber... for I would never make the mistakes I have witnessed on this good man's videos ! That doesn't mean i will ever get complacent.. No !
the fact you are sure you would never make the same mistakes as a self taught climber shows you are pretty complacent...
@@Cssfiend Not saying I would never make any mistakes ever... but the ones that this channel has showed... the stupid ones.. i would never make.. ever.. I'm very thorough and intense with climbing.. period !
@@Cssfiend This is the meaning of 'Complacent'- " showing smug or uncritical satisfaction with oneself or one's achievements." so i am considering you a 'Cheeky Bastard' unless you don't understand the meaning of 'complacent'..
i love your videos. you do them so well. i honestly laugh so hard every time 😂💀
Thank you, man! As always my favourite 👍
we have a saying in the UK." Poor Preparation Produces Piss Poor Performance" The six P's.
Proper prior planning prevents piss poor performance here in texas
Too much. "Proper planning prevents poor performance."
So many people at the top of the first video... Blown away how nobody called out how stupid that rescue was
People like #1 are to dangerous left alone....
this is the best climbing channel so far after looking at 1 mil+ channels
cam-hammer!
That corner at Great Falls is easy. I’ve intro’d a few people to climbing on that corner, and even had to free climb it once to help someone that freaked out halfway up.
0:33 i know this rock at great falls, last time i went i was walking up top and we saw some people climbing it
I smashed the bell👊. Greetings from a rope acsess worker from Vienna /Austria. I appreciate your content. Stay safe
Appreciate it thanks!
As far as the first group, I always have a petzl shunt on me or around. I’ve used that for so many things over the years.
As a judge, I'm not sure on the ruling of the shoe/quickdraw incident, but has asked an IFSC judge his thoughts.
So stupid! They had all the equipment necessary to quickly make a safe rescue. I guessing stupid not only hurt, but was pretty sore for several days.
I see everything in my life is telling me how desperately I need a yellow number 2 cam
Get that exact one, Wild Country new friend #2
For the stuck rope, I don't understand why, if they had another rope and walkup access to the anchor, they didnt just run the second rope through the top anchor (or another set of lockers on the master point), lower down one side of the rope to the climber with a half-tied figure 8 already in it, have the climber tie into the second rope? Then they could just toss the rest of the second rope down to the belayer, have him thread the second rope through the other side of his ATC putting the climber on belay on the second rope. Then the belayer could take with the second rope, release the tension on the first rope and then lower him down on the second rope. Unless the first rope was seriously stuck, not just caught behind a flake, this should work. Even if the first rope was stuck AF, the climber could untie from it once the belay took him on the second rope. Such a weird series of consecutive fails.
The other thing is that when the climber is pulled up to nearly the anchor, (with the rope around his arm), it looks like the rope is unstuck. Why didnt the belayer simply take up the slack as the top group pulled the climber up? So dumb lmao.
No prisoners this week judge josh lol
the incident with the slack is totally avoidable, in fact not even an issue, if you climb with double ropes. You can introduce slack for the clip in rope A but still be on tight belay on rope B. failing the, maybe don't try and clip as soon as you can stretch-reach the bolt.
The first clip, that is why you are adviced to have the clips in even on top rope. And that you top rope and clip out the draws on the way up, and clip them in on the way down of someone else will climb. Top rope outside is not like toproping inside.
6:41 how did he get in that position?? notice the rope around the arm ?? !
First clip actually had me sketched out and somehow it just got worse and worse.
First video there is a fourth option, to just vertical limit yourself.
Oh my on the first one I though that could happen to anyone then it just got stupid. He is lucky to be alive.
I've been to Great Falls. Not climbing but the falls are pretty awesome.
Your comments are not only good but soooo funny. Thank You!!
In lead competition climbing, if the climber makes a cliping mistake and takes notice, he must correct his mistake by himself without outside help (even the belayer) or he will be disqualified. The climber can downclimb to correct his mistake. Altought it's the first time i see an accidental clipping of the climbing shoe 🤣
bro in the second clip almost broke his buddies legs when he decided to start fumbling the rope
the shoe clipped into the quick draw tho haha
trained for years
climbed hundreds of routes
did thousands of pullups
finally getting to compete
shoe clips into quickdraw
I swear it happened to me outdoors. Pretty scary.
The clip where the guy gets his shoe caught in the clip Is exactly why I don’t like auto-belays I’ve had it before where I’ve had my trousers stuck on a hold coming down a wall just above a over hang and then suddenly hanging upside down by my leg until the trousers tore was I was trying to get it lose
If that was on video it would have been gold though lol sorry about your shorts. 🤙🏻
That pullup band snap, OUCH!
Given the shape of the wall.. there were studs just a few inches on either side of that too..
@@FallLineJP 14:25 yeah most likely 1 on each side of the doorway, but i was thinking about the sacktap at 16:41 :P
@@steffen3382 Ooooh yeah ouch lol
love the cam as a gavel
Advert fails - number 8 so far, can't take it!
I was climbing indoors once and there was a training going on for some kids where they memorized routes... so this kid is climbing a 7a blindfolded!!! And all goes great but after unclipping he went for a rather small hand hole but accidentally put his arm trough the band of a clip... I was shocked never seen that before
Yeaaaaaaa probably best to use your eyes. Lol But I get the idea prob better to just try that while bouldering or something near the pads lol
Why did they pull the first guy all the way up, when the apparent problem was the rope stucked to side of the line? why was there slack on the toprope when he finally falls? so many questions.
Can you include a link to the original videos you cover?
Do you have a link to the first video? Nice content man keep it up.
Thanks! Most of my videos are sent to me but I’ll try to find it.
What can go wrong with top rope solo even if you do everything right ?
18:25 - OK wait. We need a whole climbing fails video explaining that one. I spit up my coffee.
ua-cam.com/video/1-e01-E-PrI/v-deo.html
@@BetaClimbers Hehe thanks for the reply! I meant the one where you fall straight through the frame, behind the desk. Blue jacket?
@@FallLineJP ohhhhh! Lmao yeah that was just a funny intro 🤣
@BetaClimbers Nah I think it fell flat. 😎😂
I won't sleep tonight. God - scary.
Glad everyone is on the same page on the first one....what the actual hell were they thinking
HahahahahahHa, and wow scarry.. time to find new climbing partners
"you have 2 options" *explains 40 options
😂
I always have a rope man or tibloc at all times just for this reason
Lol, if you see the youtube channel Greyson Roberts, he does the exact same thing but with BMX
Jeez if those guys ever think about going climbing in the first clip - don’t - just don’t
I get recommended this guy randomly and I’m a rock climber
The first one, no sentencing required, they've taken care of it themselves!
9:25 Looks like someone in an infomercial fumbling a simple task.
I am MAD! Not even one RESPECT THE EDGE comment on the first video! @BetaClimbers
There are so many ways to rescue in the first clip, and the method used was none of them
Nice!
And the first guy never climbed again... 😂😂😂
So for the first scenario: from the bottom could the belayer direct the belay half of the top rope close to the climber. Then the climber could pull up on the rope to ascend. Eventually making his way to where the rope was caught ? Or was this lead climbing? And that’s not possible. Imma watch again and see if it was on lead. Either way, I’m gonna always carry a Prussik when I climb outdoors now.
@BetaClimbers please, show me some of those escape techniques you mentioned
ua-cam.com/video/csNTB37Y6Qg/v-deo.html
I've done that first climb many times, the trails go by the top, so crowds are common at the top. Tons of stupid happens here. Its all top rope, so why does the belayer have a rack of nuts on his harness
I've not heard a prusik called a poostick before!
For the second one you missed a big point. The guy switches his belay hand at the worst possible time. Very very close to having no hands on the rope when the fall occurs. Also looks like he is using an atc.
What he should have probably done at that point was just run away from the wall as a way of taking slack out of the system.
Right on thanks for added that info! 🤙🏻 I think he needs to learn how to pull slack in as fast as he lets it out.
I don't even climb, hell I can do 4 pullups on a good day, watched the hole thing though.
Only thing that saved that second climber from broken legs was the couple steps back the belayer took when dropping the rope...
not gonna lie, it was watching your climbing vid fails that made me go buy a helmet. thank you
Who's thumbs downing this? Thanks for the laughs!
Bro 8 minutes for the first one 😂😂 my god
With the first guy how about you instead of using the jammer as some handle you instead connect it to yourself and then climb and bring it up with you till you get to the snag. Un snag and then take the swing in a way you can control
First video shows what finaly happens with your brain if you frequently don't wear helmet while climb.
Swimming with a hat on, ok I feel at home now.
He just held on!.?!? Dude, wtf?! Does he not know how to tie a figure 8? Jesus Christ .
Rip that guys comp
OMFG ... cringe, shiver, face palm - how did 5 people come up with the absolute worst idea to save him? And why not pull him up completely? Darwin award nominee!
Hand ascender didn’t work, quick get a figure 8 for his broken hip, and stop using my grigri as a hash pipe!
What about the youtuber that made a super unsafe video on lead rope solo???
