Mood boards are a great idea in any creative industry. I use one depending on what I'm working on but mine contains sounds. Some make it, most don't. BTW, I love the side-chain reference ;-)
So from receiving the initial brief, doing research, then mood boarding, associative word mapping, sketching design options, moving into digital fials, then whittling down. How long can that process take both the high end and the low?
Yeah, there is no exact answer for the length of a logo design project (like all creative projects) as each client will have it's own expectations that might extend your process. The best answer I can give is to work on your process (based on stages you listed), time / track each one on several projects to get your estimation down on how long those take. Then when a client comes to you with quesyions about timings / costs you know how much your time (and price) is, and it's just a mater of adding in time that the client needs for each revision or feedback stage.

When I have worked within graphic design companies creating logos, the turnaround had to be quick (2hrs was quite slow!) would stress myself out not being able to come up with good ideas that weren't cliched (something I really wanted to avoid) My managers had experience in design but not were not designers, so felt I was too slow and would always doubt myself. It wasn't until I saw other designers discuss the 'process', creating mood boards (never allowed the time to do so) and being allowed to take the time to explore. I gained my BA back in 2006 and wasn't able to make a career out of it because of the pressure of not feeling able to bounce ideas around! I recently watched a live stream with another UA-cam Graphic designer Col Grey (aka Pixels Ink) and during that time discussed feeling blocked on occasion (or Imposter's Syndrome) working on a project, which was so refreshing to hear. If there was a UA-cam community of Graphic Designers, a collective if you will that came together on a stream to discuss these things, I think this would be a great help to the wannabe designers out there who don't feel good enough. I know this would've helped me in those early days!
Hello, I don't understand exactly why it's not ok to insert a logo in moodboad for inspiration. There are a lot of clients who doesn't know about fonts at all and it could be helpful to show them the possibilities. You answer it will be helpful for me to understand, thanks!

Were the logos on your logo board from similar type companies to see what’s used in that industry? Or were they logos from random companies that just caught your eye?
Can somebody help me out? Im setting up and haven’t designed since ages. I got the IPad Pro with the pencil and that works AMAZING. Adobe doesn’t give the full range of tools on the iPad though. What’s the way to set up a MacBook for graphic design? Since the Apple Pencil isn’t compatible with the MacBook? Thanks in advance!
Have you looked into the Logitech crayon or the Adonit Note+? both viable alternatives to the overpriced apple pencil, btw super funny that it isn't compatible with MacBook lolll don't want to sound like spam but if you check my other comment, there's a huge design guide that's rlly useful and covers this in more detail
