Thanx for making this video. I've collected these levels for a while now, mostly from thrift stores and garage sales. Some have broken spirit bulbs, but I can cannibalize some to fix others. I'll use the rosewood to make some new tools. Liked, shared, subscribed and saved to my playlist to come back to later.
That's very cool. Yes I have seen a lot of them at antique stores and it seems like many people haphazardly restore them. It's very cool that you collect them.
Very nice work. I have that exact same model of level. It used to belong to my grandfather. I did a bit of a restoration of it a few years ago. Not to the extent that you did, but I think it looks nice.
Thank you. That's cool that you have the same model. It's always special when you can restore a sentimental piece. My first video I did on the channel was a wrench from my dad.
Nice job indeed...I have the same along with others ...it's amazing how well the wood they used is still as straight as when it was new...rosewood I believe...?
Guns kits have the hollow ground screw drivers - Flat - Non angled that don’t slip out of the groove as easy = for stuck screws using hollow ground screw drives makes it easier to hold the screwdriver down while putting turning pressure on it and tap it with a hammer - Usually loosens them. Vinegar works Very well for rust but don’t leave it in too long . Rust basically washes away with water and a mild green scrubber but 0000 steel wool or fine sand paper . brass wool or softer for brass I use Boiled linseed oil for almost all antique wood. I have found Canola oil works Very well to preserve metal,, Very well.. Drys good with a blowdryer and lasts for…. I’m still waiting to find out.. only been a year or so… Good job.
great work and video. i have a similar one i am restoring and made a big mistake. I put linseed oil over stain to condition wood. to speed up drying I put level for an hour in the hot. the liguid in the glass level units evaporated!! any way to restore these or get new ones??
Good question. I set it to the angle of what it was when I got it. And a lot of the examples I saw didn't have the 45 degree angle but you have a good point. It probably was supposed to be 45.
Excellent restoration/clean-up sympathetic to the history of the tool. I liked the care you took in dismantling the glass vials. So many similar restorations end up with them broken. Loved the end result. Well done, hope you get many more subscribers in the near future. Watched your other videos and liked and subscribed. One slight niggle, and this is my own view, I feel your intro, while very good, may be slightly too long.
Yea, I try to keep the video relaxing. So I went with slower music. The video clips are only sped up because it would be too long to show the whole process of my restorations. Thanks for the input.
Really liked the exploded view of the level once it was all apart, really cool!
Thank you, I appreciate that!

Definitely subscribing :) you have such a nice respect for the history of the piece
Thank you for watching and subscribing! History is very important me.

Thank you! That's cool. Yea it blows my mind how the wood is. Yea I'm pretty sure it's rosewood.
Very beautiful! It was especially neat to see the leveling mechanisms. Subscribed.
Thank you! Yea I had fun seeing how the "adjustable" part of the level works.
You did a beautiful job and the great thing is that you didn't remove the original patina from the wood.
Thank you. I appreciate that!

Oh no! I have seen somewhere where they sell plastic replacements. That might've been Ebay. Not sure how else to get the liquid back into them, sorry.
Great job restoring level just Courios as to why one of the inset levels is not set for a 45 degree bubble?

Thank you so much. I really appreciate the advice.
Buy some hollow ground screw drivers.
Good idea
Why isn't that tree level? Because the end of your level is resting on a woodlouse... 😉 Subscribed!
Haha! Thanks for subscribing!
Music played doesn't match video.
It's the same 4 chords continuously repeated.
The video is sped up and the "MUSIC" is tooooooo slow.
