      i am also big fan of "no water change systems" i believe it is the mastering of self sustainable system, there is an aquarium shop (saw it in youtube) who does "0" water change for decades even cichlid tanks. if anyone interested ua-cam.com/video/VfAJ3ITS3Nw/v-deo.html

    The challenge of maintaining a water column that replicates well the natural environment for the fish (few water changes needed) is a noble goal! Thanks for this video. I found it inspiring.

    Woah, the fish in the small bowls can survive without filter ? Tried before but the fish always die!!

    • @SGBeardedAquarist
      @SGBeardedAquarist  5 років тому +3

      I believe the key is probably in balancing the fish load with plants. Enough plants to absorb the bio waste and oxygenate the water but not too much to outcompete the fish for oxygen at night. Also, because of the low water volume to fish ratio, frequent partial water changes.

    • @LittleOng
      @LittleOng 5 років тому +2

      The same rules of cycling the bowls for about 3 weeks apply. 2 to 3 water changes per week during that time and now a regular 30% wc per week. SG Bearded Aquarist is right, there’s enough plants to oxygenate the water and being shallow, gaseous exchange takes place easily. Also, only small fishes are kept in them to avoid nitrate overload. I have bowls, jars and vases of badis badis, mosquito rasboras, rasbora maculata, sparkling gourami and of course those endlers with very, very few deaths.

    Nice. The cabomba and other low maintenance plants helps to absorb nutrients and maintain the nitrate. You know the plants somehow are thriving when the colours seems to pop and plants are growing well.
