The French horn part of this version of Master of Puppets is one of my favorite parts of the whole concert. The interlude part is particularly beautiful, a section I always find myself humming or whistling along to.
My brother bought this dvd at my age 10. That was my 3rd year of horn playing at music school. When i heard the hornists i decided to be a professional horn player. Now I'm solo hornist of the Danube Symphonics in Budapest, Hungary. Thank you Mark for this time-travelling! You're awesome! I like your vids all the time. :)
Thank you Zoltán for your kind words and for sharing your story ! I was 14 when this concert came out, I'd been playing the horn for about 6 years and it also had a tremendous impact on me :)
7 Horns , 4 Trumpets 4 Trombones , 1 Tuba ... Epic brass section for the orchestra . The orchestrators' work was tremendous in that concert with Symphony of San Fransisco . Special thanks to the orchestrating team ... Geoffrey Alexander , Ted Allen , Pete Anthony , Chris Wagner , Chris Boardman , Bob Elhai , Blake Neely , Jonathan Sacks and last but not least Brad Warnaar. And the very good conducting work from Michael Kamen! Check out too and the Scorpions Expo 2000 Hanovver concert , with Berliner Philharmoniker , also good orchestrations by Christian Kolonovitch !
This is so awesome, Marc!! I love this concert so much and it's really cool to see and hear your version of this! I love that I can hear (and see) what's happening in the orchestra more clearly in your cover than the original! Hope you're doing well, my friend. :)
Marc, AWESOME way to start the morning. I find it interesting that Metallica used a 5/8 + 4/4 combination in many parts of the song. Using orchestral instruments in a rock song is awesome. I like how (unless many pop songs), this ventures into a time signature beyond 4/4. They had a pretty good instrumental break in between the A B A structure. Great job as always, Marc!
If it were available to your disposal, I think it'd be real cool if you did some electric horn stuff! (Nick Fife: Supercell for horn and electronics for reference)
