I have to disagree about Courtney having a smooth development. She went from ambitious and smart with a slight competitive drive to a bossy, manipulative, aggressive, toxic and controlling person. The switch was far from subtle 😂
she went from genuinely likable to having her toxic traits be her main personality traits, it's like they genuinely thought duncan getting kicked in the nuts was the funniest and replayed that joke over and over, not my courtney smh
Yennaerys Titania exactly!!! Courtney took a 180 from what she started as, ans disregarded all the good traits she had in favor toxic ones. She was about following the rules, yet had plot armor to stay in the game season 2, and tried to throw challenges in season 3 and let’s not talk about TDAS...it never existed
I AGREE 100% But then again i think the show really got into her head (I don't mean winning but just the environment and people around her along with the "vibes" has really enable her bad side a lot?? In the show she was still a teen in the first season but dw this doesn't justify her actions after the next three seasons where I assume she ages each summer :])
Never hated her, she just wanted to win no matter what it takes.. Without her, might aswell call the series total drama love island since shes one of the ones adding spice to the series
Heather was THE character, the queen of TD series and I agree with how she peaked at season 3. Ofc she won't get any awards but is a surprisingly good character in well surprising ways.
Heather had multiple alliances at the merges as she was in an alliance with Cody and sierra along with alejandro so basically she was not going to get voted out no matter want because those three characters want to take her to the finals three.
@@gregoryfuller9736 she won the challenge where Alejandro is getting eliminated but if three people from they're team get into top two that would be boring so they eliminate Sierra because we can see her winning also Heather so if Sierra didn't accidentally blow up the airplane she probably in top two with Heather or even win
I never really thought of it, but Heather is Japanese-Canadian. She's one of the few characters whose ethnicity is made clear in the show. As a young fat Japanese girl, it's possible that she was bullied and called "Sumo" or "Sumo Wrestler" to some extent by her classmates. So, when Heather got thin and pretty, she saw it as the natural order to fill the role of the mean girl bullies that used to pick on her, becoming the very bully she overthrew and replaced.
I cant remember if this is true but I recall hearing that her parents were very wealthy and successful so its possible that there was also some pressure from them

@Strawberry Orphan ikr that defined him and now Mike as a character is kinda used up. Due to Mike and Zoe basically having 2 seasons to themselves I doubt they will be in the 2 new seasons which sucks since Mike was my fav character

I'd argue TDA is actually pretty important for developing Heather's character. Between seasons she's gone from feared, physically flawless finalist with everyone too scared to act against her to rejected, bald and openly antagonized by everyone else. She realizes that she no longer has a leg to stand on and can't rely on her nastiness alone to intimidate the other cast members. She also spends a good amount of time in the first few episodes trying to maintain a facade of dignity and aloofness by holding onto her wig, and when she loses it so quickly, it shows that she can't keep pretending like it's still season 1 when everyone was afraid of her, and she has to adapt to working with her least favorite, and arguably smartest competitors in order to survive the competition. She cannot rely on making the most gullible people afraid of her or listen to her anymore. She has no authority or advantages. As a result, she gradually starts listening to Duncan, Leshawna and Harold, and even comes to respect their intellect and strengths in the competition. By the end of her time on the season, even Duncan and Harold vote her off not because she's Heather and they hate her, but because Leshawna won their trust back and they had to vote someone off, which is pretty much the opposite reason we would expect Heather to be going home after how everyone regarded her from the last season.
Yep yep yep. An important part to character development is taking it slow and making a villainous character be held accountable for their actions *before* they grow as people. It shows that they’ll most likely never go back to doing awful things again after the treatment they received from others because of their actions, and that they’ve deserved their redemption. Heather wasn’t loved in world tour, but everyone just gradually got tired of hating on her so she finally had a leg to stand on and didn’t use it to be mean (she did exploit Sierra, but that was for the good of the team instead of herself). The show runners were weird with their writing though. Characters would go from being okay with Heather’s presence to downright despising her (wtf was up with Leshawna beating Heather when they’d already made peace between themselves in TDA?). But ultimately, it was great development.
I love how Mike literally had an evil personality who was subtly sabotaging everyone’s belongings and being villainous, yet people *still* prefer antagonists like Heather, Alejandro, Jo and Lightning over him lmao

Heather is either half or fully of Asian decent, so in *stereotypical* Asian homes, parents strive for prim and proper perfection from their children, so this show could be her rebellion and way to get money quickly to support herself. In this rebellion, certain attributes from her upbringing make her become ruthless such as perfection driving her ambition to win. A hint to this prim and proper lifestyle would be her Ballet, which is a dance form that needs a lot of structure for expression and freedom. Like her being in the game wanting to be free and express herself but she can only do it in the structure taught to her by her parents. The opposite would be the freer form of dance which is Hip-Hop/ breakdancing/ free styling which is Lewshana and hence why they are opposites who stand on each of the ends of the same spectrum. Lewshana and Heather could have been friends if Heather were nice and friendly or if Lewshana was sneaky or mean
Btw I commented on this by memory before watching the video (time got away and I couldn’t finish it, but it came back in my recommendations) so now watching it I feel stupid bc you mention all the stuff I said😅
Half Asian or not, I do like this take, especially since not only half of her family is Asian, but they’re rich as well, so they’d definitely expect perfection. This definitely would explain Heather’s strive to win and how talented she actually is (she’s extremely athletic and of course does ballet. This is most likely due to the fact that she probably isn’t too academically smart, so this brings the meaning of her being “fat and pimply” in middle school to a whole new level). She’s most likely used to disappointing her parents, so she uses this as drive to use her newly gained athleticism and strategic mind to win the competition. Her parents have also shown not to even like her from the brief clip we see of them from home.
y'all are ableist in the replies for no reason 🤦🏽♀️ and there's nothing wrong w/ mike and zoey's relationship, they were just really alike and super nice and y'all just think that's boring
This is a really clean and professional video. I really liked this in-depth look at one of my favourite characters in one of my favourite shows. Keep up the amazing work!!
Harold brought up an interesting point when he mentioned her parents being divorced, I noticed that Heather looks nothing like her father, but she looks a good amount like her mother, but nothing like her father. You could easily chalk this up to Heather living with her mother and step-father, which deeply puts things into perspective. Heather also mentions having Brother's and Sister's which implies being one of at least five siblings, some of which are likely half-siblings. It was also mentioned that Heather has animosity towards her siblings, as well as her father. She could easily resent both her step-father and her biological father, as one left her, and the other she likely views as an intruder in her life, she was also likely referring to her step-father as the cheap one which is odd since her family clearly has money.....
10:16 "Probably never disciplined as a child" Heather, just a few minutes ago: "My parents tried electroshock therapy on me as a kid to make me a nicer person. wOrKEd LIkE a chArM!"
I was in America, and so I got the Heather Ending in season 3 and I was cheering and dancing because Heather was my favorite character. I was so happy that she finally got the win that her gameplay deserved. The girl pulls out moves that would make her a legend in other reality shows like Big Brother or Survivor, but because it's a kids show with writers, Heather was kept from her destiny for two seasons, but it also made her eventual victory all the sweeter. Ironically, my favorite winner is never the canon one. I wanted the winners to be Gwen, Duncan, and Heather. Only to be met with the sad truth that the winners are Owen, Beth, and Alejandro. It kills me that Netflix doesn't have season 3 cuz I just wanna watch my girl have her character arc. I can at least get why Alejandro wins officially, the first time a villain has won. But Heather's victory just has more weight to it. A character the audience cheered finally being defeated in season 1 now has those same fans cheering her on to victory over a worthy opponent who is her equal in skill and cunning. It's a much better and more satisfying turn around for her character.
There isn't really a cannon winner though. Sure, Al's ending aired on Canada, but the reason we have 2 winners is to pick whoever you like the most. My winners are Gwen, Duncan and Heather for the first 3 seasons, i think they deserved the most. I totally agree with you. Heather is an amazing character and player and 100% deserved to win.
@@adamgriffith-smith9106 Yes, and no. In the special between Action and World Tour, it's stated that Beth lost her winnings as bail money because Total Drama never actually lets the winner keep the money.
she's actually canonically inspired by one of the heathers. hence the name heather. there's even a reference to this when Gwen asks "what's your damage heather"
Heathers parents seem,,,,,, neglectful tbh, electric shock therapy to be nicer? Instead of just therapy?? Or just, meds for anger issues? Hell Heather is no where near a lost cause and her parents seem like they think so. Plus don’t ever ever ever be mad at the way a child acts when you are their parents, you’re part of the reason a child is how they are. 🙃
Total Drama All Stars has generally derailed many charachters so much... At least Heather's stay during that season was short so it wasn't as brutal as, say, Duncan or Courtney
A Gwen or Duncan analysis would definitely be awesome. Also I think Owen has more of a troubled life than it seems like, which would be worth looking into in the future.
I think Lashana's (can't spell her name right) renew hate for Heather was due to Heather's comment at the time she wanted to be friends her, as well as whatever happened between them in Total Drama Aftermath. If you think about it, Heather never accepted the friendship when the chance was there.
Thing is, in that Total Drama Aftermath, Leshawna says that she found Heather's words when she defended her genuine, and that was after Heather's comment.
I felt like it was the blog war between Heather and Gwen. Or maybe, Leshawna was just jealous of Heather. I mean, Leshawna had the hots for Alejandro. And in WT, not only Alejandro likes Heather, but she is also in the finale. Maybe Leshawna was bitter. Who knows.
I personally want to see something bwith Duncan. Also I think the reason why her friendship with layshana was bad again is as simple as the phrase, waters run deep. Everything relationship has problems, and their's is that they still kinda hate each other. I don't know the time between action and world tour, but I don't think all the problems they have with one another can disappear in that time frame. And besides, this is most likely her first genuine friendship.
I really liked the first season. I new the theme song as a kid but didn't actually watch the show until a few years ago on Netflix. Wasnt into it after the first season, I stopped halfway through the second season. And tbf, I wasn't happy with the season 1 winner but thats not a big deal. Also, it felt like there was this conspiracy plot twist at the end with the location and then they didn't do anything with that. Or was it just supposed to be more of a one-off joke than a show-changing twist?
False. I watched the season finale in Canada the day it aired with my friends Marcus & Kayla. Marcus bet that Owen would win, but Kayla and I bet that Gwen would win. Marcus won that bet...Owen won in Canada.
Everyone talks about Zuko's Redemption, but how impressive is it to get (one of) the MOST hated character, to become one of the most LOVED?! And in no less than one season!
TD: Let’s give a fan favorite character some of the best development of any animated character in history! Also TD: Let’s ruin everyone’s character development in an all stars season!
I always loved Heather she was my idol the first time I saw i was like "idk why but I see myself in her" even tho I was sweeter than cotton candy its been like 10 years since I saw this amazing show and my attitude went from cotton candy to literally Heather but male version i become so mean that I've been expelled from 5 schools i had to move 2 times and I'm only 14 I was fat when I saw this show and now im skinny i dyed my hair dakrish brown and all because I felt like Heather and I don't regret
Despite the fact that Heather intentionally did the same thing that Gwen did by accident. In any other plot, Heather would've told Courtney to get over it.
Harold was actually right on with his assumption of Heather being "fat and pimply" once! If you see on the wiki for Heather it actually mentions this about her too!
In season one of victorious when tori and her class was filming a movie in tori house when playing the character who starp cat trying to wake her up her character on movie and jade over slap cat character because cat character kiss beck character so for pay back jade character slap cat character.
@Camila Petrucelli actually in this instance the "character" is totally needed as there are characters (from victorious) playing characters (from their play)
I think heather has one more weakness:Alejandro himself because at some points during world tour(and a bit of all stars) he would throw heather off her game
The Total Drama website (from 08-09) once said that Heather has a little brother who's more spoiled than she is, and that home is the only place she can't always get her way.

Lewshana and Heather could have been friends if Heather were nice and friendly or if Lewshana was sneaky or mean
she is half asian you can see on the facial features
Heather is fully Asian. The creators confirmed it 👍🏾

This is a really clean and professional video. I really liked this in-depth look at one of my favourite characters in one of my favourite shows. Keep up the amazing work!!
Wow, thank you!
I’m for it all. analyze everybody lmao
Heather’s always been my favorite character since I was a little kid which explains a lot 😭

There are no official winners
Any winner can be the winner in ur heart
@@iedit3013 sooo I could be the winner?! 🥺🥺
I always thought Duncan and heather were the “canon” winners of their seasons
@@adamgriffith-smith9106 Yes, and no. In the special between Action and World Tour, it's stated that Beth lost her winnings as bail money because Total Drama never actually lets the winner keep the money.
she's actually canonically inspired by one of the heathers. hence the name heather. there's even a reference to this when Gwen asks "what's your damage heather"
Heather Duke..?
Heathers parents seem,,,,,, neglectful tbh, electric shock therapy to be nicer? Instead of just therapy?? Or just, meds for anger issues? Hell Heather is no where near a lost cause and her parents seem like they think so. Plus don’t ever ever ever be mad at the way a child acts when you are their parents, you’re part of the reason a child is how they are. 🙃
Heather didnt lose on purpose in season 5 ep 6 she threw it an attempt to get it in her team’s basket but it hatched .
THANK YOU
Its an egg its going to crack either way
I thought I was the only person noticed Heather in the group hug!
No, I noticed her in the group hug as well
When I was younger, I HATED HEATHER. Now, she's on my top 5 favorite TDI characters list. She's has the greatest character development I've ever seen.
Total Drama All Stars has generally derailed many charachters so much... At least Heather's stay during that season was short so it wasn't as brutal as, say, Duncan or Courtney

I hated how the writers forgot Heather and Leshawna became friends
@@aleksanderanan2119 Hmm, I never thought of that. Thanks for the info.
Who knows.
I hated Heather alot. But this makes her more sympathetic
honestly yeah
I personally want to see something bwith Duncan.
Also I think the reason why her friendship with layshana was bad again is as simple as the phrase, waters run deep. Everything relationship has problems, and their's is that they still kinda hate each other. I don't know the time between action and world tour, but I don't think all the problems they have with one another can disappear in that time frame. And besides, this is most likely her first genuine friendship.
I bet these campers were chosen because they were the only ones to send in their videos.

Simple. Everyone loves DJ. There’s no way to not like him.

Or was it just supposed to be more of a one-off joke than a show-changing twist?
in Canada the original winner is actually Gwen who is who I wanted to win between her and Owen
You should try season 3. I personally, really liked it. New characters and different settings really revived the show.

I'll admit, as far as the villains in the TD series go, Heather is one of my favorite villains!
this is such a good analysis!! i agree with every point you made. finally someone who understands her character
