As long as my Xbox store games stay mine and they keep improving their stellar controller (as all companies need to do we mo e past stick drift once and for all) I’m happy. My actual Xbox is fine. I ended up replacing it and downloaded all my games again. It just shows that the games make it not the box. I just need to know that my games will be available and mine.

If it wasn't for exclusives, I wouldn't have a single Xbox console. For many others, they would never have a Playstation if they could avoid it. Exclusives benefit Microsoft and Sony. Just like with the old Sega/Nintendo console wars, the companies were friends, they fueled the war to draw more money to both of them. Why it matters? I would have hated to have been a HDDVD purchaser when they were super expensive machines, and just watch an slightly inferior format grow and thrive just because of a little box called the PS3. You might want to remember the Panasonic 3DO since you brought up a Panasonic Xbox. The 3D0 was hardware that many companies could develop. But, the tradeoff was that the systems cost a ton of money. That was because those companies would not make money of of game sales. Sony and Microsoft can sell machines at a loss as they make money off of every game sold, no matter who publishes them. When things go all streamy-weamy, indie devs will make almost nothing. Like Spotify, even superstars have to work harder to make any money. There will be no game machine. Even my mom's Blu-Ray player used to be able to play Playstation Now. Streaming will kill all creativity. and oh wait, you think it is affordable now? Wait until you don't have to buy consoles or games anymore. The streaming costs will SKYROCKET. The controllers you will buy will either be trash, or $300 dollars each. Then you will get the joy of your games being paused to play ads just like mobile games do. Look how the movie streaming services are now starting to force ads even if you are paying. This is why Microsoft and Sony are buying as many companies as they can, it is not to acquire creative development teams, it is to buy content to put on their streaming services without paying others in perpetuity.

Because Microsoft's CEO (and many investors) have been weary of the whole Xbox console endeavour for a long time. The 70 billion dollars for buying Activision etc. came from Microsoft - they want to see a return on that investment, and fast. Gamepass ain't gonna do that. That is why Microsoft (not Xbox) is now putting on the pressure for all those games to be sold to as many people as possible. Additionally, Xbox has trained their customers to not buy games anymore, as they get them all in Gamepass - but with subscriptions plateauing out (and Xbox no longer reporting subscription numbers) the math doesn't add up. They would need a hundred million subscribers or more to be able to make enough to pay for the costs of AAA 1st party exclusives; and even if Gamepass made them 10 billion dollars a year, it would still take 70 years just to make up the investment for buying Activision / Blizzard. None, absolutely none of this adds up. Xbox is dead, and Microsoft is the one killing it. Gamepass will soon be Microsoft Gamepass, anything left from the Xbox division will be Microsoft Gaming, and Xbox as a brand will disappear. Satya Nadella doesn't give two shits about consoles, he wants to see results and money, and Xbox hasn't been bringing either for far too long now.

Here is the funny thing. rather people like it or not there will be no consoles in the future, there will only be cloud gaming. Im starting to see more and more devices be built in with cloud gaming services. Heck my new tv has xbox cloud gaming built in. People first complained when disc media was going away and now there aren't really any complaints about buying games digitally anymore aside from a very small minority of gamers. Next, consoles will be going away in favor of cloud gaming. Why? No money has to be spent by console companies having on making consoles. In fact this is why MS leaked roadmap from 2022 showed by 2032 they wanted to make cloud gaming their priority. Sony and Nintendo eill eventually follow suit, although i see sony adopting cloud gaming quicker than i would Nintendo after MS goes full cloud.

While I do like having the gaming trinity of Xbox, Nintendo, and Switch I will probably hold off on getting and Xbox Series X since there is rumors of not making more consoles. I have nostalgia with Xbox and they had some good ips back in the day. I mainly just like their gamepass now. I see your point in systems stop making games for their own systems from a consumer point. It is a business and while it may be a passion and they are trying to make a good product they are also trying to make a profit. Nintendo is the biggest one so it definitely should not get a pass in this regard. PS just makes better games and a way to get people to buy their consoles and more of their games and put a wrench on their competition that is what they have been doing. Xbox may have lots of money from microsoft but from a developer and business standpoint in making games they are not as good as their competitors. They got money to blow and stay in this market and they can buy gaming companies of course.

Consoles aren't cheaper if you play online. There is a different reason consoles are popular. Curation is a huge reason for me why i play my console over my PC. When steam has a sale i can't just look through them all and pick the ones i want, there are too many games. Trouble shooting is a pain that doesn't exist on console either.
