- Here is my iPhone 12 mini vs iPhone SE Detailed Camera Comparison. With both the phones falling into small iPhone category, many of you wanted me to compare the cameras on them. With dual 12 megapixel cameras, should the iPhone 12 mini be the obvious choice of most people? or does the single camera on the iPhone SE has what it takes to stand its ground? SE held up pretty well😌
It sure did. Other than in Lowe light, I think it was pretty much at par with the 12 mini.
Apart from night mode, SE did almost everything similar to 12 mini.
It looks so because of UA-cam’s compression, but the difference is a bit more when you look at these images side by side on a 5K display. But yes the SE did really well in most images.
My mom will buy iPhone 13 mini but she would buy iPhone SE if it has portrait mode for objects and animals. It’s sad we don’t have this feature for that price. It’s perfect phone for people who don’t use it too long during the day. I had iPhone SE 2016 and battery was good. I still don’t get it why people are addicted to smartphones and hate the battery in SE.. 😅
Very similar performance considering that most of them don't view or consume these images on large 4k displays. Fortunately iPhone SE has neural cam which gives it an option of night mode as well :)

Wow. Not much functional difference at all, and it's worth noting that thanks to the notch, the 12 mini actually doesn't have much more usable real estate than the old SE 1st gen. This is especially apparent in the camera app. Look at them side by side. $100 vs $730 and in practice, not a huge difference in overall usability. It's almost enough to make on think if you have a working SE 1st generation right now, you could just keep using it. It's also worth noting that because the iPhone 12 mini is only a bit wider than the SE 1st gen, and because it uses a 21:9 aspect ratio, when you watch 16:9 content (90% of what's on UA-cam, Netflix, etc) it's only going to be 20% larger on the iPhone 12 mini, with black bars on the sides. People forget that when they talk about screen sizes; thanks to the extra wide aspect ratios and notches, 5.5" on today's phones is not as big as it sounds, in practice.
Owning a SE 1st gen I guess the Camera/Sensor ist similar to the SE 2nd gen, because they both have the iphone 8 hardware...right?
Looking at the price difference SE held up well. It should serve well for those who clicks low light photos occasionally. By the way the white of SE looks better than the white of 12 mini. I own iPhone 12 white colour and it looks more creamish than white.
Definitely, SE can stand its ground. And yes while of the SE looks much better. 12 mini is actually cream in comparison.
iPhone se produces more natural photos. I prefer that and it's affordable too

Thanks for the good in depth comparison. In most situations the cameras are quit close, overall sharpness is a tad better on the mini. Where does the flare in the video at 10:04 came from?
Sun was hitting the 12 mini's lens at an angle which created the lens flair.

Not just the 12. 11,12 and 13 all suffer from flairs, but this lens flair is not coz of that issue. If sun hits at a specific angle the. You see this flair on all phones, and even on extremely expensive dslr lenses.
How about media consumption of around 2-3hrs regularly on the 5.4" screen ?
Depends on what you expect. If you are expecting a bigger screen experience, you will obviously be disappointed. When I switch to the 12 mini from iPhone 12, I didn't feel the media viewing experience was too bad. I actually enjoyed not. But when I move to it form 12 Pro max, I definitely feel its too small.
All in all it all depends on what you are expecting and what you are used to.

No. Megapixel count alone doesn't make one camera better than the other.

Got a 12 mini at ₹35,500! Which was a better choice than getting the SE.
+Better display (hardness and it's OLED)
+Better design
+Smaller size but, bigger battery
+Better processor
+Better processing of dark images
+Additional lens (wide angle)
+Glass body (would get better signal than metal backs)
+Aluminium at side (better thermal conductivity than the stainless steel one)

I got all that for just ₹6,000 more and the wait for 7 months!

Hey, I am not from Hyderabad, but there's a store called Faizal Communications in that city which is very famous for all electronic deals, you can check that. Also I would recommend going with the iPhone 13 mini instead of the 12 mini, its a much improved phone with a LOT better battery backup.

Add neural Cam for night mode on se 2020
While Neural cam is a good way to take somewhat usable images at night, it is not a substitute for the built in night mode.

The iPhone 12 mini is a total different phone . You can’t compare the SE with the one and only iPhone 12 mini. The iPhone mini in my opinion is the best smallest - most compact Phone has ever been made . Lastly I believe the mini is the real innovation all the other phones are just the same .
