I actually hate deep fusion from apple, it makes the se 2022 pics oversharpned and artificial. I always edit and slide down clarity slightly when taking shots with my 13 mini. Imo, they apply too much sharpness to makeup for a lower resolution sensor. Only advantage of deep fusion is when taking portraits of people or animals, everything else looks a hot mess, but im a professional photographer so my opinion is different
I agree with this. The sharpening is high but they are gearing images towards the masses with brighter and sharper shots. Do you shoot in RAW on the iPhones?
@@Moyaiville_Productions I've found some samsung to have oversharpening problems as well, however they were in the models that were around the same price as this, not in the flagships so that's fine
Best camera comparisons in the game. Thanks for the hard work you put into these. And damn, even the young man has the University Blue dunks. He's in the sneaker game early.
The old phone has better colours. Since I look at photos normally, not 5x digital zoom, I don't need that pixel-peeper sharpness. I will never detect that in a printed photo. I will see the better colours in every photo though, that the old phone makes. HDR is not natural and I wouldn't use it in any case.
its not a versatile camera in any way but the photos from wide cam the day time photos are on par with new flagships, and easily the best video recording one in that price segment for sure even better than some flagships ....
But watching and editing those photos on a poor 720p screen is a mess. Also, many budget phones tske great photos now with Gcam...the only benefit SE 3 has is video. Had they updated the front design by reducing the bezels, SE 3 would've sold like hot cakes.
Honestly even with a Galaxy S21 Ultra with the big huge unessecery sized sensor on the main camera I very rarely use night mode. I like the more natural looking pictures. And believe me I'm not a professional photographer but I do take a whole bunch of pictures and videos.
Great comparison, i have both the 2020 and 2022 SE, the main thing i noticed was how much better the shadows/highlights were on faces with selfie shots
An alternative nightmode camera app is BlackSight which in my opinion works better than NeuralCam. Would be nice if you make a comparison of those apps on SE3 to native night mode on iPhone 13.
As a professional photographer viewing this on my 27" graphics monitor, I can definitely see an overall improvement in photo quality with the SE 2022. I've been considering the SE 2020, but now looking a bit closer at the 2022. Thanks for comparison!
Hi Danny, I enjoy and appreciate your videos. A bit of unsolicited constructive feedback for you. A very common mistake I see in UA-cam product comparison videos is a failure to present the same product in the same screen position consistently. For example, your intro video has the SE3 (2022) on the left, but then your photo comparisons have the SE3 (2022) on the right. Thankfully, you do a great job labeling the images, but you can save the viewer some confusion by keeping things consistent. Anyway, your videos are top notch and I look forward to them. Have a great day!
This was because the way I was holding the phones for the intro. It would of looked really weird. I thought about switching them but it was an intentional move.
Hey Danny, here's an idea, I saw Andy To, PotatoJet, and Matti Haapoja's Android (sponsored?) videos in 4K and was left with the feeling the overcompression on even the flagship S22 Ultra made it look "uncinematic", with smeared texture. So maybe you can throw the SE3 into the ring with the best Android video camera phone you have to test and convince would-be content creators that they should just go with Apple (as I suspect they should... Android is so obsessed with 2x2 or 3x3 binned sensors that overwhelm the most advanced ISPs, which likely aren't as good or as well matched to 12MP sensors as the A15 ISP is).
As always, your work is very matter of fact. The testings are within the boundaries of everyday image taking. Just the way the stills come out of the camera, we see that the maker has improved on quality. For the tweaking and the post-editing, well, I have many apps that will complete the job to my liking standards. Keep that beautiful family fresh with love and care. They are the most important people in your life. They all look so handsome. Keep on sharing. Best wishes, and I'll keep waiting for your next videos. ** By the way: Any experience with ANAMORPHIC Photo? Just asking. Cheers!
Is there a difference yes can you notice it no . But thank you so much for making this video! Because videos like these are very needed for proof instead of just talk.
Great comparison! Enjoyed the content. The differences are negligible at best tho. Not many people are going to zoom in 500% and crop a photo. The only reason I might upgrade is the battery life and 5g.
Photos are indeed better with faster stacking of the sensor inputs, so less multi-exposure artifacts at night. The stacking makes the image look less hazy... almost made me want to upgrade. I get the gist with a third of the samples, so thank you for your thoroughness and substantial effort. Unfortunately you chose to spend less time on video pixel-peeping, so we cannot fact-check Apple's claim of improved texture in videos. Stabilization seems much better without EIS artifacts, but again, would have loved to see more samples of the video part. So the videos are probably not as improved as the photos, so I can stay happy with my 2020 SE!
Videos are the same. The improvements are all across the board including video. Basically everything I said about photos apply it to video. If you watch on a TV or a larger screen you can see the video improvements especially at night.
11 would win easily. 11 was when Apple started getting serious about camera so 11 was a huge jump over XS whereas 12 and 13 are far smaller improvement (13 is worse than 12 IMO). 11 would have bigger and newer sensor than the one on the SE 2022
Heya Danny, I've been doing a lot of research lately for a new phone. I'm planning to buy a new phone for both me and my partner. Our budget is 500 euro each. The best pick I could find for that price point is the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5g which is 449 in France. I'm mainly interested in a great camera/video capability to be top notch. Do you know any other phone that can beat this model at this price range? Thank you!
Did the iPhone SE 2022 surprise you with the camera software improvements?

@@dannyreynolds4607batrai
for the camera perspective yes there is an improvement just slighty a small difference on the camera brightness and sharpness
Also important is the text recognition ability.
The dynamic range differences in those portrait mode shots were pretty surprising. Really shows how much can get squeezed out of the ISP alone

This is something Apple always does. They oversharpen images imo. This is why for me, I'm sticking with Samsung (Maybe Google Pixel as well).
