Thank you for this recipe. My grandfather was a chef and used to make a mean banana bread but he passed away before I showed any interest in the kitchen. That was 20 years ago. I made this and my relatives liked it. They said it was like what Tatay used to make. Brought back a lot of good memories. Again, many thanks. ☺️
I prepared this yesterday to take to my daughter's home, just down the road, for a cook out of hot dogs and hamburgers on their new grill. I was very pleased with the bread and they must have been too, because half the loaf was eaten in just one sitting. My 11 year old granddaughter is a fan. It was the first time that we have been able to eat outside, living here in the mountains of Upper East Tennessee.
Your making me very jealous Ron stuck in the middle of a city, a very nice city but a city, going away for a few days in our motorhome,... to another city :o)
We have a motor home also. Did an over the weekend down to visit Kings Mountain National Battle Ground in the edge of South Carolina. Stayed at an adjoining state park. Something that I have been wanting to do for years, since I had studied the battle since I was a boy. The only drawback was I couldn't take my 84 year old father with me, since he slipped on ice this winter, broke his leg, and is still recovering from that. I took lots of pictures for him. On the bread, I did use black walnuts in the bread recipe. I highly recommend that variety, if you have access to them.
I happened to have a pile of ripe bananas on hand, so I thought I'd try banana bread for the first time.. I logged onto your channel, and your recipe yielded wonderful results, a delicious banana loaf - i gambled on using almonds instead of walnuts since it was all i had on hand, but it still turned out great, moist and delicious.. thanks again Mr. Kirkwood for sharing your knowledge and helping folks like me experience the delights of delicious home made baked goods ;)

I've tried making Victoria sponge cakes in the past but this bread/cake is far, far lighter than I ever achieved with a sponge. Thanks for all your videos and cooking tips and hints. The way we make banana cake in Brazil is different. I was introduced to banana cake with walnuts when I was living in England. I wanted an overdose of this cake. This mixture of banana and walnut is unbelievably delicious. ❤❤❤❤

My family love banana loaf cake, I normally add white and milk choc chips into my batter along with the walnuts. I love how your cakes always look so neat and professional when they come out of the tin. I normally line my loaf pan with greasproof paper but I’m going to start using ur method instead xxxx
I made your super Banana & Walnut cake this morning. I replaced the eggs (allergies) with tofu & baked it for 1 1/2 hours and the loaf turned out superb. I love your videos.

Thank you for this great recipe John. I tried this past weekend, but after peeling banana's i realized we are out of eggs.. I tried it without eggs and it still turned out great taste wise, even though it was little dense. I also added few dates to the mix.

Hi John - could I use Stork margarine for this instead of butter? I made your wholemeal and white loaf today for the second time - it's amazing. I also watched the video you made when you received 100000 followers. You deserve it - well done- everything is so well explained and demonstrated - and, as someone else remarked, your worksurface is always so clean, and no rings on when you knead dough - which, again, I did today for the first time as my Kenwood mixer bowl stuck for the second time! Lovely Bread John! Secret tip from my Daughter Jenn, Prepare pan with butter, then dust with cinnamon, sugar blend (half & half measurements). It gives the bread a crispy outside and a wonderful sweet cinnamon flavor! I find this dusting doesn't need butter on the bread and makes it more of a dessert bread. Enjoy! Thanks for the recipe. Mine's a bit different, the biggest difference is I use dark brown sugar instead of granulated sugar and cream it with the butter before adding the banana and egg. The top is crisp, but I like your idea of sprinkling sugar on top for that extra bit of texture. I've also never added spices to it, I'll give that a go also. It never seemed to need it, but maybe I just don't know what I'm missing! I know I'm missing the walnuts, my wife can't eat them and I truly miss them! Thanks for sharing!

Just made it, and it tastes wonderful. The nutmeg gives it a real grown up flavour. The only problem is not to eat it in one sitting. I will slice and see if it will freeze, and use when I fancy.

My family love banana loaf cake, I normally add white and milk choc chips into my batter along with the walnuts.
I love how your cakes always look so neat and professional when they come out of the tin. I normally line my loaf pan with greasproof paper but I’m going to start using ur method instead xxxx

I made your super Banana & Walnut cake this morning. I replaced the eggs (allergies) with tofu & baked it for 1 1/2 hours and the loaf turned out superb. I love your videos.

I follow all yr. great recipes I sent it on to my Dad + to my niece she bakes cakes It s healthy to use butter for baking so do I. I make german cakes + french tartes & ones in school I learnt for 5,5 yrs to cook & bake cakes & different kinds of bread, doughs, rolls & croissants puddings. I bought new baking tins, 1 is for a Guggelhopf I can't get selfrising flour here so will use baking powder. I watched yr chicken pie video it looks delicious u show every step so well, thks very much!

Hi John - could I use Stork margarine for this instead of butter? I made your wholemeal and white loaf today for the second time - it's amazing. I also watched the video you made when you received 100000 followers. You deserve it - well done- everything is so well explained and demonstrated - and, as someone else remarked, your worksurface is always so clean, and no rings on when you knead dough - which, again, I did today for the first time as my Kenwood mixer bowl stuck for the second time! I don't know how you have the time to reply to all the reviews. Thanks so much for teaching us all how to cook.

Lovely Bread John! Secret tip from my Daughter Jenn, Prepare pan with butter, then dust with cinnamon, sugar blend (half & half measurements). It gives the bread a crispy outside and a wonderful sweet cinnamon flavor! I find this dusting doesn't need butter on the bread and makes it more of a dessert bread. Enjoy! Thanks for the recipe. Mine's a bit different, the biggest difference is I use dark brown sugar instead of granulated sugar and cream it with the butter before adding the banana and egg. The top is crisp, but I like your idea of sprinkling sugar on top for that extra bit of texture. I've also never added spices to it, I'll give that a go also. It never seemed to need it, but maybe I just don't know what I'm missing! I know I'm missing the walnuts, my wife can't eat them and I truly miss them!
