    The 53 Yogi Berra is my favorite Topps card of his. Love this set as I’ve always liked the colors and art work of these. Reminds me of the colors of the 50 and 51 Bowman.

      The cards from the early 50s are probably my favorite post-war vintage cards. Love the artist's renderings of photos of the players. Truly works of art.

    Thanks for sharing, John. The set is colorful and reminds me of the 1963 Topps set being condition sensitive near the bottom of the cards. The Reese PSA 10 card has got to be worth some where in the five figure range and the Mantle, Mays and Robinson cards definitely six figures, maybe higher end. Too rich for my collecting budget.

      Glad you liked it Kevin. Yes, the bottom border is very similar to the 63 set. I think the Mantle, Mays, and Robinson PSA 10s could reach $1 million + because of the rarity.

      Thanks Dave. Yet another gorgeous set from the 50s. I think it was the best decade for baseball cards hands down.

    Gotta have deep pockets for that list. Great cards & a beautiful set in my opinion. As always, thank you for putting this together John.

      My pleasure Doug. Yes, deep pockets for mid to high grade cards, but if you don't mind cards on the low end or ungraded, it makes them a lot more affordable.

    This was about what I thought. In just any condition I think the short print nature of Gilliam and Podres push them ahead of Berra, but In Higher grades the Hall of Fame collectibility outweighs set building. No surprises at the top. Nice work John!

      Thanks Joe! Yeah, at the PSA 5 level the Gilliam and Podres were able to sneak into the Top 10. But once you get to the higher grade levels, the big boys really start to dominate.

    Best penny sleeve for 1952 & 1953 Topps baseball cards? What is single vs. double printing?

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  Місяць тому

      Ultra Pro sells penny sleeves for vintage cards from 1952 to 1956. Double printing is when a card appears more on a pre-cut sheet than the other cards. In other words, double-printed cards were produced more than single-printed cards.

    That '53T Eddie Mathews looks like a Howdy Doody doll, sorry not sorry lol; Also the '53T Mantle is his most attractive card IMO

      You do have a point! LOL Mantle sure has many great-looking cards, but I agree that his 53 Topps card is right up there.

    Hello, how do I get cards from this set graded? I have the Jim Gilliam, pee wee reese, satchel paige, and willie mays cards

    • @WadeBoggsFan
      @WadeBoggsFan  2 місяці тому

      For vintage cards, the two main grading companies are PSA (psacard.com) and SGC (gosgc.com). There are instructions on their websites on how to submit cards and there are plenty of UA-cam videos that go over how to submit cards for grading. Also, if you live near a sports card shop, they may be able to submit cards on your behalf. If not, they may know of someone reputable that does group submissions (people send them cards to get graded so they don't have to worry about the paperwork).

    I think kids put cards away in shoeboxes with rubber bands by teams not numbers. when you go to shows or your card store and they have cards they put them by number. it wasn't the rubberbands that put the creases it was the handling , flipping and putting cards away in piloow cases that put creases. I have card that were put in shoe boxes with rubber bands and they have no creases!!!
    wow Roy Campinella didn't make the top 10?
    a big surprise Eddie Matthews didn't make the top 10
    so Bob Feller lately has been a a more sought after asked for card than Campinella and Eddie Matthews?
    I think it's a nice set it's ok there portraits noto photos like the 70's? but there nice cards.

      When I was a kid I put my cards in order by card number, not by teams. It all depends on how many cards were put in rubber bands. They may not have creases, but the edges where the rubber bands were placed could get dented.
      I think the interest in the Bob Feller cards is because he doesn't have that many cards from his playing days as opposed to Mathews. Maybe close to Campanella.
      I happen to like the artist's renditions of photos on the cards. They look like little pieces of art.
